Themes in iWeb

Is there a way to just change the theme (background) on a website already created?

It depends on the theme.  Go to the Inspector/Page/Layout pane can check the broswer background section and the page background section where you can change the background.
If the theme uses a graphic file you can switch to a color but, depending the the theme, might not look very good. You'll just have to experiment.

  • Copy Themes from iWeb 2.0 to 3.0

    Hi ,
I copied a theme from iWeb 3.0 "Fine Line" to iWeb 2.0. I thought the copied theme would show up in 2.0 but it doesn't. Am I doing something wrong or is it simply not possible to copy a theme the way I did it.
I took the theme and thumbnail from 3.0 and copied them to the same folders in 2.0 (on two differently computers obviously)

There's more than must putting the theme files in the same location in iWeb. There are database files that need to be edited to let iWeb see the themes. I believe 11Mystics.com has a tutorial on that.
This may have some info: Customize iWeb 2.0 Themes and Edit XML and Customize iWeb 2.0 Themes and Edit XML.
The other tutorials are here: http://11mystics.com/index.php?s=addtheme+toiWeb

  • Developing themes for iWeb 08

    hello,
I kind of gave up XHTML/CSS/PHP/JavaScript and Wordpress to get back to the bases with iWeb.
i'd be willing to help develop free/paid themes for iWeb 08 and I understand, from what I read that the process is different from iWeb 06 themes.
I digged into the core files but when showing the package content of a particular themes ( say "blog.webtemplate") I cannot find where the graphics are located.
    Anyone has an idea?
Also is there a place that gathers iWeb 08 theme developers?
    thanks

  • Anyone else buy  "Themes for iWeb" in App Store?

Ok, I sent in my review a second time and this time it seems to have been published. I just cannot get the application to work, but the developer has emailed me and repeated the instructions. I followed them and it still doesn't work in Lion.
If anyone else bought this app from the Mac App Store, please post here, especially if you succeeded in getting it to work.
I have bought themes before off the web, and the download was easy. Just click on the installer pkg and it gets set up in iweb and the themes appear.
But the installation system for "Themes for iweb" is different.
I like a couple of them, so I hope I can get it to work. If I were really expert I could just relax and figure the developers need to fix things, but my level of understanding is such I still have to understand I possibly screwed  up the process. Hope I can get it to work one way or the other.

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

  • Caution:buying themes for iWeb in MAS can be a problem

A few weeks ago I bought Themes for iWeb, and it just didn't work. I asked for help from the developers, but then the changes totally destroyed iWeb and my site.
I now notice another themes for iweb on the Mac App Store and all the reviews say it not only doesn't work, it does the same thing for iweb in Lion. Read all the reviews and the warning from Apple to get a feel for problems that can arise.
I don't blame developers, other than for the fact they should have tested it out. I suspect that last update from Apple for iWeb made it functional in Lion, but without its code, no themes will be working.
Now, I love iWeb, but seeing the handwriting and all, am moving to another website creator. Considering how much trouble I had with the destruction of my site, I want to warn off people from buying any themes package that doesn't clearly say it has been tested in Lion.

I just reinstalled iweb and the updates. Actually, it may be a blessing as it will force me to redo the site and check every link. In the last year a few just don't work anymore.
I find that I can copy and paste pretty well from the site still on the web, and use the old video from YouTube.
Some stuff is gone, but all in all, it was an interesting lesson.
I got cocky because I knew the trick of making sure I duplicated and saved the domainsites file.
I know I had at least one sitesfile that was original and perfect, but didn't work.
    Oh well.
I really do like iweb. Now I think I will not be the first to download software again.
In fairness, while the software didn't work, I did play around in the application support, iweb, themes section a lot more than I should have.

  • Themes for iWeb

The Apple App store has a colelection of iWeb Themes under the name "Themes for iWeb". They look nice but there are no customer reviews. Has someone here tried them? Thanks for any feedback!

I agree with Jeff wholeheartedly. If you start with either the White, Black, Modern Frame or Formal theme you can create a customized site to your choosing.  The other themes use graphic files for some of the page designs which can't be removed or resized to fit your design requirements.
There was another user who was having problems with those themes from the App Store.  Something happened and he couldn't find his previous sites. I can't find the exact topic but if I do I'll post a link to it here.

  • Importing themes into iWeb

I've recently bought a new mac so i needed to transfer some iWeb themes from my old mac to my new one. I copied an old theme i had onto a usb stick and then onto my new mac. I put the theme in iWeb>contents>resources>themes. Now when i launch iWeb the theme is still not showing!
    Please help.

    try this:
    1) on your new mac, go to: iWeb>contents>resources>themes
    2) rename file ThemeSortOrder.plist to ThemeSortOrder~.plist , just in case.
    3) on your old mac, go to: iWeb>contents>resources>themes
    4) copy ThemeSortOrder.plist then move it to your new mac.
in case that doesn't work, you have to reverse the file ThemeSortOrder~.plist to its previous name.

  • Importing Templates/Themes into iWeb

    Hey Folks,
How do I go about importing templates/themes into iWeb? I have a few I downloaded but I'm at a loss as to how to include them in iWeb so that I can use them. Thanks for the info!

Just any theme download from a site is not enough. The 3rd party themes must be designed specifically for iWeb and, as such, should have an installer included.
Otherwise, start with either the white, black, or formal themes and use graphic files from those themes to create a custom design.

  • Photo album theme in iWeb that are the same as the old MobileMe wanted!?!

I really liked MobileMe and made many Albums with specially design firstside photos. That means they are square with four sides equally long. I put down quite a lot of work and now I would like to get hold on a simple, goodlooking theme for photoalbums with an index with square photoholders. That all I want.
Anybody seen anything like this? Could someone do it or tell how to do it??
    Many Thanx Anyhow!

Yes, but that´s the very problem - I have downloaded and I have 98 different themes of allready made photo albums for iWeb, and all of them got - as You say - a rectangle frame for the indexpage. That will crop the albums first picture in a very irritating way - specially since I remade all of them to fit in a square (like the MobileMe album had). They worked as a frontpage of the album, with text and sometimes with a suitable frame in the picture. In iWeb, they will all be cropped to a middle section of the square.
But in the iWeb´s albums next page - usually a kind of a lightboard, showing all pictures in that album - the square format are kept, likewise in following pages, showing a blowup of each photo.
I think now the only way to get the index to look nice with my square photos, will be for me to add marginals on each side on all the first´s to fill up a rectangle frame. But it´s impossible to do it unvisible. It will be noticed.

  • Ask Apple to add Business themes to iWeb

On the iWeb Feedback page I noticed there were two questions where Apple includes business as a survey question. They could be thinking about some sort of business support for future releases. If your interested in Apple supporting business on an iWeb site published to MobileMe go to
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
*1) What do you use iWeb for*
    Select "Business Organization"
*2) What type of themes would you like to see added*
    Select "Business/Professional
This is the best way to get this feature added

Just as an FYI, MobileMe and iDisk aren't intended for "business" use.
You agree to use the Service only for purposes as permitted by these TOS and any applicable law, regulation, or generally accepted practice in the applicable jurisdiction. *The Service is designed for personal use and not intended to be used for commercial business purposes, including, but not limited to, transacting online sales or software distribution via an e-commerce site.*
    from here
    http://www.apple.com/legal/mobileme/en/terms.html
Now, I don't PERSONALLY know of any pages that have been removed from MobileMe for being a "business" BUT, I think it's clear that Apple doesn't want anyone depending on MobileMe as a money-making venture. If, at some point in the future, there's a failure at Apple that takes sites down for a period, I'm not sure they could use "But my business DEMANDS that my site be up around the clock!!" as a complaint given the above.

  • Is there any Blogger themes like iWeb's blog theme?

I Like iWeb's blog theme, but actually iweb is not easy to use.
Is there any way to export iweb blog theme for blogger(blogspot.com) using?
Or, is there already a theme for blogger which is like iweb blog style?
    thanks a lot.

Is there any way to export iweb blog theme for blogger(blogspot.com) using?
There is no export option of a iWeb theme.
When you publish iWeb pages, the objects (html, images and styles) that make the theme are in the published folder.
You have to edit a blogspot theme to display these objects.

  • Create and Save a Theme on IWeb 9

I want to know if there is a way to create a theme and then saved to use the same color in new web site pages for the same web site. I have read some post and I understand that que easy way is copy/paste, but i think than theres a better way to do this.
thank you for your time and See you !

I'm trying to imagine an easier way than copy/paste.
    Teleportation?
    Do what I do.
    1. Create a page that functions as a theme.
    2. Duplicate the page and add content to it.
    3. Repeat 2

  • Keynote theme as iweb template??

I think I read somewhere that keynote pages could be used as an iweb page.
Anyone heard of this or have examples?

You can output a Keynote file AS html (which you'd publish manually and point an iWeb link to it), but as far as using it "directly" as an iWeb page, I don't think so.
BUT, since the graphics can be copy/pasted from one to the other, I could see using Keynote to layout a website and copying images shapes and everything into an appropriate width (to match the presentation) page.
