Theoretical question re: ipad 3 update from iOS6 to iOS7

With Apple's recent statement regarding breaking Facetime on iOS6 iPads, do we have recourse if the update to 7.1.1 slows the machine down, as I've read here that it does in many posts?
For example, my iPad 3 is under AppleCare.
if the update cripples the machine, makes wifi worse, slows it down, causes the battery life to shorten....
what will Apple do to accommodate me - give me an iPad 4?
As much as I dislike iOS7, if that's the only way to get Facetime working again, it's possible I may do it, however, shouldn't Apple be responsible to supply me with a unit that is every bit as fast and responsive, in every way, as the unit was BEFORE being forced into the update policy implemented by Apple?
it is under warranty, after all.....

It would be useful for you to actually read your warranty before asking what it covers. That is why a copy is included with the device when purchased.

  • Can I update from iOS6 to iOS7 (not iOS8) - 4s and 5s

I'm trying to determine if I can only move from iOS6 to iOS7 now (10-1-2014).  I don't want to make the jump to iOS8 yet.  Question applies to a 4S and 5.

i have ipad mini...currently it have ios6...i want to upgrade it to ios7...but on itunes its showing to upgrade to ios8...how can i update it to ios7 only not to ios8?

  • Is there anyway to upgrade my Ipad 2 from ios6 to ios7 and NOT ios8?

I have an Ipad 2+cdma with ios6.0.1 installed on it currently.
I have a specific app that works in ios7 but not in ios6 or ios8
The app is KeyPad Plus Pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/keypad-plus-pro/id503713794?mt=8
This version ios 6.0.1 causes this app to crash (on attempting a manual network connection to TightVNC the app crashes). However the app will not work with ios8 as stated from app developer. (I also have an Ipad mini+GSM with ios 7.0.6 on it and this same app works flawlessly. So I know it will work with ios7.0.6)
Is there any way to upgrade from ios 6.0.1 to ios7 but not ios8?
I have tried installing ios 7.0.6 to this ipad using Itunes and shift/restore using a downloaded ios7.0.6 version but I get an error (3194) saying the Ipad could not be restored. It seems my only option is upgrading to ios8.1.3
Is there ANY way to install/upgrade to ios7 onto this Ipad without upgrading to ios8?
If I brought my ipad to an Apple store would they be able to put ios7 onto it?
My ONLY options seems to be to buy/find another an Ipad with ios7 already installed on it.
    I'm kind of stumped here.
    Any suggestions or ideas?

A device can only be updated to the highest iOS version that it supports, which for an iPad 2 is the current version i.e. 8.1.3
An Apple store won't be able to do it either, iOS 7 is no longer signed by Apple for iPad 2
Have the developers of the app given any indication that they are working on fixing their app ?

  • Iphone 5 is updated from ios6.1.3 to ios 7.0.2, then use the machine to slow down.

I am in the same predicament...any resolve?  Other than possibly taking it into the shop?

  • HT4519 On upgrade from IOS6 to IOS7 my email no longer sends

On upgrade from IOS6 to IOS7 on iphone 5 my email no longer sends - I have to exit email, wait, open the email app and then it sends. I have left my ipad on IO6 with the same settings as the iphone 5 on IOS7, and it still sends emails first time. I have taken the phone in to an O2 store guru and they couldn't help, and I also deleted and re-created the account, still no luck.
    The outgoing server is  smtp.o2.co.uk
Any suggestions welcomed - the Apple support pages haven't helped.

    Hi Nichol
I had similar problem. Tried in store guru but they couldnt fix.  This it worked for me:

  • Question about the updates from a computer-moron

Hey, um, I see there are a few versions of the OS X update, so I'm wondering, what's the "combo" version? And which should I download? And is it neccesary to download it?

It's only necessary to download the update if you wish to update to the new version. You can do so via Software Update or you can download the standalone updaters directly from Apple's download site. There are two basic versions of the updaters: The Delta version can be used to update only from 10.4.8. The Combo updater can be used to update from any prior version of Tiger (10.4 - 10.4.8.) Combo updaters include all prior updates. Delta updates only include the code needed to update from the last version.
    Before updating you should:
    1. Make a bootable backup of your current system to an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    2. Repair your hard drive and permissions. You will need to boot from your OS X Installer Disc to do this.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • HT1751 when i update my ipad mini from ios6 to 7 i lost my Apps, how i get those without internet?

i updated my ipad mini fromios6 to 7' but i had an backup, when i updated my ipad mini i lost my apps, when i do restore backup the app not coming, please help

You can download apps again for free from the app store via the purchased tab at the bottom of the screen in the app store app. You must use the same Apple ID that you bought the apps with.
Are the apps still in iTunes on your computer? If they are - sync them back onto the iPad.

  • HT4623 I am trying to update from ios5 to ios7 can you help me?

I am trying to update to ios7. Can you help me? I need to go from5 to 7.

Assuming you have an iPad 2, the article you came from details what you need to do.
Just follow it, step by step. Is there something you don;t understand about it?
Just to make sure you have an iPad 2. does your iPad have a camera?
If it does not have a camera then it is an iPad 1 or First generation and cannot be updated past iOS 5.1.1.

  • Will I have to update all the apps if I update my iOS6 to iOS7.0.4 (iPhone 4)?

For a lot of app downloads iOS 7 is required.
There is ONE app right now that I DO NOT WANT TO BE UPDATED ever, because it will mess a lot of work that I have done.
Can I update safely to iOS 7, or when updating iOS all the apps must be updated too? (as it was some years ago if I remember correctly)
    Thank you

    wjosten wrote:
Does not depend on the app.
What would happen if the app stops working after upgrading to iOS 7? There's no way to go back to iOS 6, and the OP wants a specific app version. It is very important to check that the version he/she is using works with iOS 7.
Also, as far as I know, iOS 7 updates all apps automatically, so Automatic Downloads should be disabled for Updates. If they are disabled, then there's nothing to do

  • Does WiFi stay intact if you update from 10.8.4 to Mavericks ?

    Hello again,
It occurred to me that I could update to Mavericks ....... would the WiFi connection stay intact ?
    Thanks,
    Matrose

Thank you for replying. No, I wasn't asking that. As I read reports earlier, that updating from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 caused the WiFi connection to cut out, and stay down, I stayed with 10.8.4.
As I now want to install the new security patch, I have to update. ...... to something ! So my question is: does updating from 10.8.4 directly to mavericks also cause the WiFi connection to cut out ?

  • HT4191 I want to recover or transfer my recent backups (previous downloads) to my iPad am running iOS6 from iOS 5.1.1...HELP?

The moment I upgraded my Ipad 2 (built-in iOS 5.1.1) recently (as a gift from my mother this Oct 10,2012 this IOS 6.0 message  keeps on popping out of my screen to Upgrade from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 6.0 (bothersome) so nothing to do but to click UPGRADE & INSTALL... then BAM! the screen locks to the icon of "iTunes with USB cable"  so ..seems to be it simply crash my OS.
I had to bring my iPad 2 to an Apple Reseller here in the Philippines and they said I cannot go back to iOS 5.1.1 (OH WELL!!) so am stuck with iOS 6.0 (FINE!)
NOW that problem is.. I've downloads (MOSTLY GAMES) from iTunes Store.. and followed where iTunes is taking them (DOWNLOAD FOLDER) and made a backup.. And now this... error messages from iTunes that I have to Update my iTunes to latest version and yes I DID and STILL same error.. I called the Apple Reseller and instructed me to re-install iTunes...

Crossing my fingers that all should work this time FRESH INSTALL.. but..NO. the apps are still in my iPad 2 BUT None (ZILCH) on my iTunes (which is common)
What's so funny was that... I want to recover or transfer my recent backups (previous downloads) to my iPad am running iOS6 from iOS 5.1.1...HELP? I tried to copy frommy backup folder to iTunes folder nothing works.. now now it keeps on Downloading the same stuff.. which i repeatedly deleted.. (ARRGH!!)

Downgrading of any version of iOS isn't supported by Apple. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.
iOS 6 works fine on my iPads, though Maps is definitely a work in progress. There are a number of alternative maps apps, or you can just save Google's mobile maps web page to your home screen. For performance or stability problems with iOS, try doing a Restore of your iPad. That fixes for many people a number of problems that upgrading over an existing version of iOS sometimes seems to trigger.
You're not talking with Apple when you post here, by the way.
    Regards.
