There are not templates when I open DVD Studio Pro.

How do I get them?

If the templates are on your computer, but not showing up in your palette for whatever reason, you can import them to the palette, but they will appear under custom instead of the apple tab.
You can install them from the FCS discs in one of two ways. I used to simply put in the first disc, and choose custom install options, unchecking all but the DVDSP templates, but when I did this recently with FCS2, it would not let me me un-check any of the other apps, and then running the install actually downgraded all the apps to their dot-zero versions, which I found depressing and inconvenient. Some of the FCS discs will have stand-alone isntallers you can run, which I'd try first. If there's no installer n the DVDSP templates disc you can still copy them over and import them to the palette manually.

  • M2v files from compressor will not play in QT or DVD Studio Pro

I have 2 hours of HD footage that I am trying to put on a DVD. I tried exporting the entire thing (twice) to an mpeg2 but the resulting file would not open and froze quicktime. I then tried exporting the chapters individually. Even though I tried this twice, only the first clip worked. I then copied each chapter into a new sequence in FCP and exported each sequence to Compressor. This time, I could only open one of the 15 or so files in QT, but I could not even import that into DVD Studio Pro (it said it was an invalid file type). I have been using all the same settings, so I am not sure why chapter 1 works fine everywhere, chapter 2 works in QT but not DVD Studio Pro and the remaining chapters do not work anywhere. Anyone got any ideas as to what to do/try next?

I know that it will take a while, but after two tries exporting the whole thing and the result not working, I broke it up into smaller, 10 minute sections hoping that the computer would be able to handle them better and if one is bad, it is easier to fix than re-doing the entire thing.
The Compressor settings I am using: DVD Best Quality 150 minutes with all the default settings except that I put stream usage at HD DVD. I have also tried using Fastest Encode 150 minutes, also changing the stream usage.
I exported 20 minutes with Fastest Encode and changed the file format to 'H.264 for DVD Studio Pro' and it worked, but it is a mov file that is much bigger than the mpeg2 (m2v) file.
I started the compressor to work on the remaining hour at night and then left it until the next afternoon, but when I came back, it said there were 60+ hours remaining, but FCP was counting off the frames. I left it for another couple hours, hoping that compressor was simply estimating wrong, but when I came back, it said there were 93 hours remaining until it would be done. I canceled it and restarted the computer.

  • Is there a "in use" tab like in DVD Studio Pro?

In DVD Studio Pro, the asset browser has a column that let's you know if that file, picture, audio is being used in the DVD you are creating. Does FCP have anything like that? It would be useful for me because I import hundred of photos into FCP and put them into long sequences and it would be nice if I could quickly reference whether or not they are already in my timeline, "In Use."
    Thanks,
    Brian

    A couple spring to mind:
Double click your photo to place it in the viewer. Press F. If your photo is in the Timeline, the playhead will jump to it. If it is not there you will hear whatever error sound you have set and the playhead will stay where it is.
When you have placed a picture on the Timeline, right click it in the Browser and assign a color label to it.

  • Cant Open DVD Studio Pro

Ok so whenh I open the application it tries to open a previous project and it says it cant locate a file and wont open. How do you go about reseting DVD studio pro so it wont open a previous project right when you open it without having to have to project open, since it wont open. make sence?

Mine always opens an untitled project unless you double click a project file to open the application.
What version of DVDSP are you using?
Try deleting the preference file located in <home>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist

  • Color corrections don't get processed when burned in DVD Studio Pro

I am working on an FCP project that has alot of darkened day for night clips. I export using compressor at best quality, and project looks great in viewer in DVD Studio Pro, but for some reason when I burn the final DVD and watch it, all the darkness changes are gone, and the footage is in it's original state. What is causing this? How can I burn a DVD that looks like what I am exporting?? Other thing is that when I burn a quicktime of the same project to a DVD using toast, the color changes remain, and they look more accurate- I thought Quicktime would be lower quality than Compressor?

I have acutaly been using this technique on a recent project, and have a few additional observations:
One is that, even if you use a black background in your menu, and map your button colors to black, not all players generate the overlay colors the same way, and the black patches sometimes appear lighter then the background, particularly on software players, since computers are generating RGB vs. YUV.
Another detail is that when a button is activated, the overlays disappear, and all the button graphics embedded in the background are visible while the player switches to the new menu. I have however used the following workaround for this: Generally players will display a freeze frame of the background of the menu while switching to the jump target, usually the first frame or loop point of a menu with motion assets. By creating each menu as an animation where the buttons fade up in the first few frames, I can create a "clean" background for use as the freeze frame displayed during the switch.
This particular disc hhas a tight bit budget, and lots of menus, and so I am creating very short motion assets (1 second) and setting them to "still" at end. I haven't acutally checked this on a player yet, to see whter the still or the beginning of the asset gets used as the freeze frame, I'll post back with the answer after I have tested it.

  • AAC audio file increase in size when imported into DVD Studio Pro

    Hello all!
I just encountered a very unique issue with the DVD Studio Pro. I used the compressor to export my video as an MPEG2 file and my audio as AAC file. After the compression my audio file had an .mpg4 extention and was about 160MB in size. When I imported it into my DVD Studio Pro project, however, the audio increased in size to 1.2 GB. I tried so many different compressions, but the problem really is (I think) that the file bumps up in size once imported into DVD SP project. Is there anything in preferences that I need to adjust or change? Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hi
I'm a little lost now with versions history, but if you have A.Pack in your App folder, then must use it. Check this tutorial: Encoding AC3 with A.Pack.
Compressor 2 and 3 has AC3 encoding inside the main application.

  • Is there a way to clip files in DVD Studio Pro?

Hi, I have a file that is 4.9gbs, 200 mbs over the max size for a dvd. I'm wondering if it's possible to clip/delete parts of a track (like in FCP) in dvd studio pro because I don't have time (took 9 hours to export). Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

If you are willing to lose either the front or the back of the clip, then place your cursor over the end of choice, wait for the bracket shape, and then drag the clip to the length you want. Make sure to do the same to audio.

I called 'virginmedia' who told me to try using Explorer, which worked, and they told me the problem was with Firefox.

  • After Effects are not visible when exporting in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4

I have made a simple name/title bar for an interview video, using Adobe After Effects. When i import the composition to Premiere Pro it's visible in the preview window BUT; when I render the video in Premiere Pro the After Effects clip is not visible anymore. AND  when i export the complete sequence to a .wmv file, the After Effects clip is not visible either.
I'm not that much of an expert in Premiere Pro or After Effetcs, so hopefully this can easily be solved.
What is it that i'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance!

The names are the same, but the programs are very different... CS4 is 32bit, CS5 and later is completely rewritten to be 64bit
So, there is a different forum for CS4 and earlier http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous?view=all

  • DVD Studio Pro 2 does not play well with Leopard.

    Hi All.
Besides running Leopard on antique hardware, I'm also trying to run antique software. Has anyone built and formatted a project with DVD Studio Pro 2 running on Leopard?
    Thanks.

Just noticed there are posts about this in the DVD Studio Pro group.

  • FCP to DVD Studio Pro exporting help needed - desperatey......

    Hi.
Please help me if you can.
I am exporting a Quicktime movie from FCP for DVD Studio Pro 4. I chose the MPEG 4 option in the compression, make it best quality and bounce it. But when I look at the self-contained mov file, every time a person walks across the screen I am getting little lines on the light parts of the screen or a beating or sizzling effect in the dark parts. Basically it looks like everything is "alive" somewhat - objects like curtains seem to sizzle.
Can someone guide me in the proper choices to make when exporting from FCP to import into DVD Studio Pro? There is not an MPEG-2 or M2V option, and the MPEG compression breaks it down to MPEG-2 or M2v upon import into DVD Studio Pro anyway.
I guess I don't know how to get the best quality bounce from FCP, in order to have a file that is less that 4G in size. Can someone please advise?
There are no directions on exporting FOR DVD Studio Pro in the Final Cut books, nor was there a FCP prep covered in the DVD SP books.

Quick workflow from FCP -> DVDSP:
In FCP, File Export QuickTime Movie
Select DVD Studio Pro Markers in the Markers drop-down (leave other settings as is)
Save QT Movie to your preferred location
In DVDSP, import your newly-created QT Movie
(You may want to confirm your encoding settings - both in terms of bit rate and whether
you're encoding on build or have background coding enabled - prior to this step though)
    Best Quality workflow:
In FCP, trash the render files for your sequence
From the Menu, File Export Using Compressor
Now, in Compressor, select the appropriate preset(s): DVD: Best Quality 90 Minutes - 4:3
Optional: Delete the AIFF setting completely
    Select the appropriate destination(s)
Optional: For the Dolby preset, alter Dialog Normalization (under the Audio tab of the Inspector) to -31. In the Preprocessing tab, alter the Compression Preset to None
    Click Submit
Once the encode is done, import the .m2v and .ac3 (and/or .aiff) files into DVDSP
It's only fair to tell you that since this produces (pretty much) the best possible quality from Compressor, it may take as much as 5x-10x as long as the 'quick workflow' detailed earlier. (Especially if you've set DVDSP to do a one-pass encode)

  • How can i get a video file with subtitle out of DVD Studio Pro?

i got a project for a dvd in dvd studio pro. There are subtitles which i created within dvd studio pro.
Now i want make a web version of the video with the subtitle, how can i get to this?

    Hi Mr. Cutter,
There is an app called "D-Subtitler for Mac" (as well as several others)
which should allow you to extract the subtitles from a copy of the
finished dvd and use them otherwise.
It's been awhile since I had to do it but it is a fairly common need
    so the software exists.
