There is a billing problem with a family member's previous purchase
I recently updated my credit card expiration date and CID. This credit card is the authorized shared payment medium for my "family" group.
I am the family organizer and two other individuals are "adults".
Now, when attempting to update applications via the app store on my own devices, I get the following error message:
There is a billing problem with a family member's previous purchase. Ask the family organizer to update their billing information.
I have a valid card entered and the rest of my billing information was accepted via the apple store.
Thoughts?
SAME PROBLEM, BUT STARTED WITH: What I figured out how to do (ON MY OWN) while on hold with Apple all day yesterday. You have to actually END THE FAMILY COMPLETELY. From there, make sure you add a CREDIT, not a debit, card to the account as your primary source of funds. Now, that should correct everything, right?!? The whole reason I was having to do this was due to the fact that Apple now allows 'child accounts', so I didn't have to make my 9 and 11 year old children appear to be 13 just to have an appleID. This birth-year change can be done at appleid.apple.com under the security questions section (scroll to the bottom to find). From this point you will be prompted to verify the birthdate change and to make it a Child ID. Approving this process became a problem because I did not have a CREDIT card on file to prove I was an adult. Very upsetting. Anyhow, all of that got taken care of, and I am now unable to do any updates, and my children are not able to download the apps and games they want from 3000 miles away when they "Ask to Buy". I'll be calling Apple (again) and will re-post if I find anything out, since not much is being done about this situation.

I recently had to get a new debit card. When I updated the debit card information - I've received this message ever since. I've gone back in and updated the information twice after to make sure it is correct and it is. Yet I continue to get the error message.
I can't purchase or update any apps and can't purchase music or movies, etc.
And it really aggravates that Apple wants me to pay to get support on how to PAY them. Argh..
Anyone know how to fix this?I had the exact same problem. I cancelled a credit card that was used as my iTunes registered card. Even though I'm the family organizer, I was not able to update my credit card info to my new card: I received the annoying "Ask your family organizer to update their billing info" message. After spending 45 mins on the phone with Apple Support, they found the problem. There was a pending credit card charge that my wife had made on her phone that needed to be paid before any changes could be made to the account. The problem was that she was unable to provide credit card details as long as I was the family organizer and I was unable to provide credit card details as long as she had an outstanding balance.
The solution suggested by Apple was for my wife to leave family sharing temporarily, update the credit card info to pay the outstanding balance and then re-join the family. This worked. The downside is that there is an annual limit on how many times (2?) that you can join a family so this workaround is clearly not a sustainable solution. Apple needs to fix this bug in their payment system to (1) make the error message describe what is happening and (2) provide a way of updating credit card details without having to leave the family. -
I tried downloading a free app and it asked for my billing information and when I entered it, it said that there was a billing problem with a previous purchase and I have to update it. I keep updating it and it wont let me verify it and I cant get any apps even if they are free, and I just Deleted some apps to make room for my new upate!
The message says: "The payment method has been denied, try another method"
I'm living in the same country and city since I was born, so I don't think the location is the problem.
And yes, I paid with the card a meal in Burguer King today. And nothing more. -
When going to update it says there is a billing problem with the previous purchase when I go to update it still won't let me download and all the info is correct. How do I fix this?

I just recently purchased 3 songs from itunes not knowing that I had no money on my debit card (visa) left. My iphone wont let me update my apps and says that there was a billing problem with my last purchase. I dont know what I am supposed to do! I dont understand why it worked in the first place when it wasn't supposed to!
There seems to be a billing problem with the iTS. I've been trying to make purchases today (Dec 9th) too and it reports either the iTS can not process payments or it says my card was declined. I even changed the payment method to Paypal (which is never declined) and still no go.
I don't think it is "you" but a problem at Apple. Some popular new apps were released recently like Logic Pro and perhaps they're getting bombarded as they did when Lion was released.

Every time I try to download a free app or even upgrade any of my apps for free it tells me to put my Apple ID I do that then it say there a billing problem with previous purchases. So I click continue and put in my debit card information correctly but still won't work it always declines it and says he's different payment method. what can I do it's been like that for 3 months that's the only card I have.

So when I go to update my apps and/or purchase them, a pop up comes up saying 'There is a billing problem with a previous purchase. Tap continue and sign in to view billing information.' So I press continue and sign in, then it goes to my 'Payment Method' page. In red writing below, it says 'There is a billing problem with a previous purchase. Please enter another payment method.' Because I used a MasterCard for my last purchase, it won't let me change it. I redeemed my account from an Itunes gift card to $20 but I cannot use it as it doesn't give me the option of using it. My only billing options are either a Visa Card, MasterCard or Amex Card. Please help me if possible!!!

I have a £50 gift voucher and I tried to buy something with it, but it tells me there was a billing problem with a previous purchase and makes me put in my debit card details. My debit card has no money atm, can't I just pay with my voucher for the things that have a billing problem? I tried to put my voucher code in again but it won't let me do that.

If you go beyond the credit from a gift card the balance will be billed to your credit card account. -
Apple tv is giving me a meesage that says... There is a billing problem with a previous purchase. Go to the iTunes Store on your computer and click Purchase History to resolve problem. I have gone to my purchase history but can't seem to fix this issue.
You can contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department at no charge using the form on their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find an "Email Us" button) and explain your problem to them.

Is there any sort of error message on the payment details screen on your account ? If not then if you enter your card's security code does that trigger an error message ?
