There is a dialog box on my screen that I've never seen before. I can't get it to disappear. Any ideas?

My Macbook has a dialog box on the screen that indicates everything I do. Right now it says "Standard toolbar". When I try to get rid of it nothing happens. I've never seen this before and don't know ho to get rid of it.

This seems to be more common than I thought. Premanent solution is to trade the cat in on a dog.

If you can't CMD+ drag it off, try this...
You've probably got a couple of corrupt preference files.
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist
where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).
    reboot

    Hi,
This sounds like a setting needs changing in the Finder's View menu. Choose View>Show View Options or hit Command-J. Uncheck Show Item Info in the resulting dialogue.

  • Blank Screen Problem I've Never Seen Before

My ipod video is doing this funky thing...
I tried updating its software on my ibook and ever since then:
    1. the screen is white (but lit) and always stays lit until the battery runs out
    2. it lights up when charging and wont turn off (but still no image on the screen)
    3. i tried to reset using the "menu + select" buttons, but it just beeps three times and turns into another blank white screen
    4. when i plug it into my laptop, it doesnt appear in itunes or the finder, so i can't even restore it.
is this a defect of some sort that can be fixed on my own, or does it have to be sent in for a repair?

  • I bought a used 1st gen Ipad on Ebay. It is froze on a screen that says plug into Itunes.  I can't get it to do anything?

I pad froze on Itunes symbol with cord image under.  Will do nothing but turn off. Please help!  I finally brake down and by a used Ipad for this?!!?!

If you recently bought it, can you return it? If you can, do that as soon as possible! It's possible thte seller new they were selling you a non-working ipad, or one with problems. I'd keep at e-bay until they refund your money.
You might not get as great a $ deal, but if you buy one in the Apple refurb store on the Apple website (scroll down on left of screen) you can consider one of those. This morning I ordered our third ipad 2 (16 gb for a senior who wants it for limited use.)
(Given the reported problems with ipad 3 (discontinued after only months) we went with the ipad 2, but could not find any new ones at 32 gb. So we bought two last Summer (at a great price, we went with 64 gbs.)
Each comes with a new outer front and back cover, a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty. We have never had overheating problems, and the batteries last about ten hours per charge.
Google questions about the old new discontinued ipad 3.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to I center a dialog box in the screen?

Simple question, and I hope a simple answer.
I need to center various sized dialog boxes in the screen.
I've tried getcenterpoint(), but I don't know EXACTLY how to use it.

look at the ToolKit class. there's a method which returns the size of the screen. with the size, you can calculate and use the setLocation() method to center your dialog box.
you can also use the setLocationRelativeTo() method of the Window class. (JDialog inherits the method from Window)

    Hi Bev076,
I would try these ideas first:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If that doesn't resolve the situation, I would suggest reporting it:

  • Alternatives to "dialog box" for on screen notification

I would like to activate a small notice on screen while my script is working. This will prevent others from doing work on the machine while its doing its magic in the background. The "dialog box" stops background tasks from happening. I found iNotify, but the product is no more. Any alternatives to a dialog box? Thanks - J

I think CB wants to lock the screen so that others can't use the machine while the script is running (though I can't quite imagine why - macs are designed to multi-task). I don't know of a way to do that in a normal user account from applescript. if that's what you're after, you'll probably either want to write a cocoa shell for your applescript that takes over and locks down the screen, or else you'll want to restart into a special user account that has no GUI, run your script, then reboot into the user's account.

I have a black dialog box on my display that I cannot get rid of. I was cleaning my keyboard and must have hit some combination of keys that caused it. It shows text announcing everything I open on the display or am looking at. Can anyone help me turn this off? Thanks.

    Hi there francone,
It sounds like you may have the Picture-in-Picture Zoom option enabled. Take a look at the article below for more information as well as how to disable it.

  • I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

Multiple desktops and dual screens really aren't meant to work together. Apple came up with this multiple desltops feature and never really thought about users that use a dual monitor setup. So use either multiple desktops OR dual monitors but not both. Also don't try to use any App in Full Screen Mode as that doesn't work with dual screen setups either.
