  • Is there a specific time of day that the BTO iMacs become available for pickup?

As I am sure many people can relate to, I find myself hitting the refresh screen on my Apple order page awaiting the arrive of a built-to-order 27" iMac (3.4 GHz/ 32GB memory/ 3TB fusion/ 680MX graphics). Question for people with an inside scoop.... do the custom macs arrive a specific time of day (many retailers have scheduled deliveries at specic times during the day). The reason I ask is because if my Mac is only going to become "available for pick-up" in the morning, I will know that after... let's say 10am.. there is no reason for me to keep checking because I will know it won't be showing up on this specific business day, if it hasn't already. Any insight on how this works? Thanks fellow Apple fans!

Goodness gracious.... Not even 5 minutes after I replied to you, my item became available for pickup! It's like they were listening in! haha !

  • Is Oracle client (v9.x.x.x or any) available for "Solaris 10 AMD64" ?

Is Oracle providing a client for "Solaris 10 AMD-64" ?
If so could you let me know the link to a trail/download s/w ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Hans!
    Thanks much.
Currently we are using Oracle database v9, so we are more interested on Oracle 9.x client to be run on "Solaris 10 AMD64".
I searched for the combination of "Oracle client 9.x"/"Solaris x86-64", and came to know this combination is missing(or unavailable) from the client list provided at Oracle web site.

  • Is there a way to see in itunes all of the games available for the iphone

I am trying to find a list of all the games available for the iphone.  I have gone into the app store and click the games link but all I can find is the main games page that lets you see "What's hot", "What we are playing" etc.  Does anyone know if there is somewhere on itunes that I can get a complete list?

  • Authorizing and Deauthorizing for apps?? (Not music.. there seems to be a difference- I've already de and reauthorized for music)

I recently got a new macbook Pro and am having trouble syncing my apps. My last computer has been reset.
I have already deauthorized my 5 computers going to account info and selecing that... This seems to only apply to music. I still get a message when trying to sync apps that the apps that the computer is not authorize for many of my apps and then get the error telling me I "cannot authorize more than 5 computers". I am not going to be able to do this and it looks like what works for the music in this case (deauthorizing all 5) does not apply to apps.
    Now what???
These are not all cheap apps.. some are $10 so there is no way I am buying them again. This is kind of rediculous.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Jim
This is with OS 10.7 and iPhone software 4.3.5

I emailed with support and this is basically the deal. My iPhone also has my "me" account on it... [email protected]
So some of the apps purchased from the phone went with that account that I really didn't know existed. To fix it I had to also authorize this iTunes with my me.com account (Store->Authorize This Computer) and it all worked out and is now syncing those apps back to my iPhone.
I got that email from mac support at the same as the last message and like you said, when right-clicking the app and selecting "Get Info" it showed the me.com account. So this was a good lesson for a few things. Thanks for the help.

  • Is there an add on to optimize the writing on facebook and email for the visualy impaired?

I have macular degeneration. My computer uses Windows 7 so I can optimize the screen from 300% to 700% to view the programs I want to use. However, if I do this with email or facebook the print becomes so blurred that it is difficult to read. especially if it is written in light blue.. Is there a way to optimize my email and facebook print as it comes to me?

  • What to do if there is no Mavericks-compatible driver available for my Canon printer?

I updated to OS X Mavericks recently, and now I cannot print. I tried going to Canon for an updated driver for my MP830 printer. They don't make one and referred me to Apple. So I'm asking Apple to update Mavericks with a fix so that my printer will work. If anyone else has any low-cost (free) solutions, I would appreciate it, because I can't afford to buy a new printer, and I need my printer/scanner to work.

Post in the Product Feedback website.  Otherwise, call Canon and ask them if they plan on providing drivers that will work in Maverick.

I try to buy songs itunes but there is a message stating that my disk is full and to empty out the trash can. But i don't know what disk it speaks of?

The "disk" is your startup volume, which is usually called "Macintosh HD" (unless you changed it).  Your iTunes media files (such as song files), and basically everything else, are stored on that volume (unless you changed it).
You should create some free space as soon as possible, because the system (OS) and applications use free space to write temporary files as part of normal operations.  If there is very little free space available, your system may start to bog down and feel slow because it's not running efficiently.
You can empty whatever is currently in the Trash by doing a click-hold (or right-click) on the "waste basket" icon in the Dock, and selecting Empty Trash.  A good place to look for files you may no longer need is your Downloads folder.  There is usually a link to your Downloads folder in the sidebar of a Finder window.  (The folder itself is located in your user home folder.)
You can see how much free space you currently have by selecting Macintosh HD on your Desktop (or in the sidebar of a Finder window), and selecting Get Info from the File menu.  You can also right-click on it and select Get Info from the menu that comes up (or hit Cmd-I on keyboard).  The Info window shows Capacity and Available for the volume.  Available is the free space.  It would be best to keep Available at least 10% of Capacity; getting it to 20% or more would be better.
If you can't free up enough free space by deleting things you do not need anymore, you should get an external hard drive and save some your files there.  That's actually how I run my iMac; most of my user files are stored on external USB and FireWire drives.

  • Server 2.2.1 - Disable "Share with Windows clients (SMB)" as default for new Share Points

I have been experiencing issues with the native OS X 10.8.3 Server SMBx service.  I have therefore disabled it in favor of full Samba via SMBup.  With that said, when I chose to add a new share, by default OS X Server activates "Share with Windows clients (SMB)"  I would like this option disabled by default as I am managing my SMB shares through SMBup.  Is there a preference to accomplish this?
    TIA.

  • Time Capsule vs. samba-client (Fedora)

I've been using a 1GB Time Capsule for various things, including backing up my Linux server using the samba-client package. This had all been working well... until last night's scheduled backup.
+Note: "Type40" is the name of my Time Capsule (either you get it, or you don't).+
    *mount -t cifs //Type40/root /smb/Type40/root*
*mount error 13 = Permission denied*
*Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)*
After I reset the password (I hadn't changed it myself), the error changed.
    *mount -t cifs //Type40/root /smb/Type40/root*
*retrying with upper case share name*
*mount error 6 = No such device or address*
*Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)*
I tried a number of variants, and finally found one that worked.
    *mount -t cifs //Type40/Shared /smb/Type40/Shared*
I still don't know why the original command suddenly stopped working, so now I've modified my backup script to dump its files below /smb/Type40/Shared/Users/root/{servername} instead of what previously worked as /smb/Type40/root/{servername} .
At least it works again. :-P Here's the software versions involved at this point:
    Mac OS X: 10.5.3
    AirPort Utility: 5.3.2
    Time Capsule Version: 7.3.1
    Fedora Core release 5 (Bordeaux)
    kernel-2.6.20-1.2320.fc5
    samba-client-3.0.24-7.fc5

I am having exactly the same issue with 7.4.2 on a 500Gb model. Intermittent connectivity and sometimes complete disappearance from the workgroup.

    "Motion 5" is your friend.
Michael Wohl has a nice 15 video series (free) about Motion 5 at http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/motion5101-overview-and-workflow-guide (right side)
This is a "teaser" series to sell his tutorials but it is really good. Just saw it yesterday for the first time.
While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?
Motion 5: cheap at $49.99 (just got my download two days ago)
    Motion 5: Support Community athttps://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/motion_5
If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.
Disclaimer: I have virtually no relationship with anything connected with this tutorial product, developer, or anything.

  • Samba client doesn't work in Mountain Lion

I have Mac Mini Early 2009 and Lion installed on it. I tried to update it to Mountain Lion. All was well, there's just one problem. Mountain Lion does not want to be connected to the smb-shares. This applies to all smb-shares - both on Windows, and on Linux. The error is displayed: "Can not connect. Consult your system administrator."

  • Oracle returns redicrect when there is NAT between client and server

I have Oracle 8i on Linux sitting behind a firewall/NAT. I have two Apache webservers that run both Tomcat and WebLogic webapps, also behind the NAT. One of them is on the same machine as the Oracle server. Those all connect just fine. I recently had to load a JBoss/Tomcat webapp (no Apache) outside the NAT which needs to talk to the Oracle server. It's using a JDBC driver, I believe calling on this class: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver. The configured URL is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:qlink". Using ethereal (A GUI frontend to the packet sniffer tcpdump, which understands the TNS protocol) showed me that this is the connection request being made: "(DESCRIPTION=(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=qlink)(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=__jdbc__)(USER=oracle)))
(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1521))))". I notice it uses SID, where it seems everything else I've analyzed with Ethereal is using SERVICE_NAME. I was first trying to pipe the data through an SSH tunnel. This technique works with all of Oracle's tools that I have tried it with, and with TOAD. I can connect to this Oracle server with the DBA Studio and sqlplus, over an ssh tunnel. But as soon as this JBoss/Tomcat webapp tries, Oracle returns a REDIRECT message. There are two things that strike me as odd: The REDIRECT message returns the hostname of the Oracle server and a nonstandard port; and the JBoss/Tomcat webapp doesn't seem to do anything about it. I has assumed the TNSLSNR forwarded data between 1521 and the appropirate port for requested databse. The port is the same every time, so I made sure that the hostname/port returned was reachable from the client side. But like I said, the client seemed to just ignore it and hang. Getting desparate, I then tried to open up the Oracle ports on the NAT, and use ipchains to restrict what IPs could connect to it, that yielded the same results. I've seen this webapp work with Oracle running on the same machine, both configured identically. (Running Oracle behind the NAT and using SSH tunnels gives the same configuration for JBoss/Tomcat as if I was running Oracle on the same machine)

I'm pretty uninitiated with Oracle. I don't know how to verify/disprove your guess about the shared server dispatcher, or even what it means. Should I try to pursue the observation that the JDBC client specifies a SID to connect to and everything else specifies a SERVICE_NAME, or is that of little consequence? I'm not sure how to interpret the output from 'lsnrctl serv'. Here's the chunk pertaining to the database in question:
    qlink has 3 service handler(s)
    DISPATCHER established:120 refused:0 current:120 max:254 state:ready
    D000 <machine: sark.unboundtech.com, pid: 15801>
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=sark.unboundtech.com)(PORT=41714))
    qlink has 3 service handler(s)
    DEDICATED SERVER established:46 refused:0
    LOCAL SERVER
    DISPATCHER established:0 refused:0 current:0 max:254 state:ready
    D001 <machine: sark.unboundtech.com, pid: 15803>
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=sark.unboundtech.com)(PORT=41716))(PRESENTATION=oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer)(SESSION=RAW))
    Presentation: oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer
The (ADDRESS=...) is what is returned in the redirect. I created the database with dbassist using the default setup type. I'll have a look at listener.log (the name/location of a log file is actually a question I had but forgot to ask, so thanks), I don't know how to check trace output. The webserver is able to resolve the hostname being returned, and knows how to route to it.
Localhost is the correct entry. If you've never used SSH tunnels here's a quick rundown. You can tell most SSH clients to listen on an arbitraty port on your machine, and forward data to a remote IP/port from the other side. So from the webserver, I would say to forward localhost:1521 to localhost:1521 on the oracle server. So for sqlplus, for example, I setup tnsnames.ora to route connections to a particular SERVICE_NAME to localhost:1521, which is forwarded through my SSH connection, to localhost:1521 on the Oracle server. This lets gains me two things, all connections look like localhost, making my firewall rules simpler, and I get encryption through SSH (I know Oracle can do encrypted connections, but some clients might not support it, and I don't know how to set it up yet.) I am able to connect to the database over an SSH tunnel using sqlplus, from the webserver (since I ended up installing Oracle on it), so I know the connection is possible.
After reading that, you might wonder if the hostname:port returned in the redirect were accessible from the web server. They weren't at first, but opening port 1521 and 41714 for sark.unboundtech.com at the NAT, and firewalling requests from IPs other than the webserver, then giving the JDBC config sark.unboundtech.com instead of localhost with an SSH tunnell yielded identical behavior. After recieving the REDIRECT, the JDBC code doesn't seem to do anything except hang, nothing is sent to the location given in the REDIRECT response.

  • Is there a Cisco Voip client available?

    Hi.
I'm currently looking for a voip client for my mac mini.
As I login through VPN to my office account from home, I'd like to be able to connect to our Cisco VOIP network.
As I cannot find any relevant information regarding the availability for a Cisco VOIP client for MacOSX I assume that there is none available from Cisco.
However, are there compatible VOIP clients for Cisco VOIP products?
    Thx,
    /Mysteron

Well, I got a really dumb answer from Cisco, read this:
I have never heard of VOIP client software. If you are talking about something like IP communicator, or IP softphone, these will not run on Mac OS.
Installing and Configuring Cisco IP SoftPhone:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps1860/productstechnote09186a00800a3d39.shtml
    IP communicator:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps5475/prod_bulletin0900aecd800f4 564.html
The VPN client software will run on Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2308/productsdatasheet0900aecd801a9de9.html
Never heard of VOIP client software, lmao & rofl... amateurs... The more reason to steer clear of Cisco products if you use a mixed enviroment of computers/servers in your company.
Maybe there are 3rd party products out there, will do a search...
