Hello:   It's been a while, I know ... we did change the WEP key,  and the device in question still appears on the network map.   This leads me to believe it's not the computer of the former resident, but another device.   Is there a way I can "ping" the device by IP number, or attach directly to it, in order to determine what it is?   We have three laptops that connect to the network, two of which are hard wired to the router, and the third connects wireless via a "Hawking Network Extender" - I'm wondering if it might be the Hawking, but why would it have captured the weird computer name?
Hi SueLSmith,
I don't have or use any kind of Extender with my Home Network to know how Network Magic recognizes the Extenders on the Network Map..
Suggestion: If the third computer can connect to the Router without going through the Extender, remove the Extender and see what happens. I mean to physically disconnect and remove the Hawking from the Router itself. Turn off the Extender.
After the Extender is removed, see what Computer Name is associated with the Third Laptop.
