There is a solution; set your network settings from scratch,

If you are moving to the MBA from another mac computer, set your network settings up totally from scratch. If you have been having network wifi problems, did you migrate from another mac?
If you look at the previous macs, all of them had networking primary interface as en0 = ethernet.
On the MBA, alone of all macs, the primary network interface which is en0 is the wireless and therefore different from any mac you have used via wifi before.
There is nothing wrong with the Network interface on either but they are not the same and should not be treated as if migration can transfer the settings and be expected to work perfectly.
If you have had wifi problems, reset your network preferences, not just your wifi settings themselves.
As someone else posted in internet topic, migration could be your network problem. Reset all network and re "apply" settings if you are having wifi difficulties.

I know this is late, but here's the only way I got around this issue without having to start all over with a blank iPhone.
I restored my backup to a DIFFERENT iPhone 4. The restore still "failed" at the very end of the restore, but when the phone rebooted, everything I had restored was there! I then backed up the newly restored iPhone 4, and then restored that backup to my iPhone 5. Problem solved.
One thing to note; if you restore your original backup to an iPhone 4 that still has data on it, the restore will combine all the photo albums & Music.
I tried a lot of other things first before comming to this solution. I also jailbroke my iPhone and tried deleting the camera roll, deleting the iTunes sync information, deleting different preference files, resetting settings, etc. Nothing worked!
I also contacted Apple Care and spoke to an Advanced Support Rep. She told me that other than starting over, the only thing I could try would be to use some unsupported 3rd party software. There are a lot of great jailbroken apps that do great things with restoring data like your call log, sms, etc, but you can't use them if you can't jailbreak the device you want to restore your data to.
Apple needs to add the way to backup your iPhone data with iCloud, not just the all or nothing setting they currently have. Starting with a blank phone isn't so bad if I can backup/restore my sms log, call log, etc independantly.
Everyone who reads this should recommend this by filling out this form: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error
In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting.

  • Your network settings were changed by another program

I changed the settings on my DSL modem-router so that it signs me in and handles PPPoE, not the Mac. When I attempted to change the setting on my PowerBook Ti to DHCP, using the network part of system preferences, I got a dialog box saying "Your network settings were changed by another program". I could dismiss this window only by quitting immediately after trying to dismiss the dialog box. After a couple of tries system preferences would quit. I can however access the internet through AirPort and the same DSL modem-router. Does anyone know how I can change my ethernet setting to DHCP so that I can surf the web using ethernet?

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

  • Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later; Have been trying to fix for ages.

Hi Everyone, been struggling all day to restore my settings on my ipod, as my little brother has put a restriction password in place and made me not able to get into Safari, iTunes, Camera which I really need. I have tried everything, resetting my proxy settings, turning off the firewall, changing my network location, ran diagnostics. Everything seems fine on that, I post below my results. I also tried restoring from the device, but with the restrictions code in place I can not do so. And everytime I am dowloading the software update before the restore it comes up with 'Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later'. I have been using google for ages and am not sure what I have missed.
I am using Windows 7 with an Acer Notebook.

    Hi Diesel vdub,
Did that and I tried again, download stops halfway through and comes up with same message I have already quoted. Wifi Signal is 5/5, network is working, just not letting me download via iTunes.

  • Is there a way to set wireless network priority on iphone? If not, there should be!

Is there a way to set wireless network priority on iphone? If not, there should be! I have a wireless router with dual band signals, as well as an extender at the other end of my home... it would be nice if I could set a priority list so my phone knows to always connect to the 5GHz signal if available, rather than trying to connect to the 2.4GHz signal which is on the other side of the house...

By default, the iPhone will prioritize Wi-Fi over cellular for data and when doing Wi-Fi, will latch on to the strongest signal it can associate (latch on) to. But all that is automatic, there's no evident control for manual adjustments. Other than deleting the Wi-Fi networks you don't like.

I keep getting this error message when I try to log into Itunes, has anyone else seen this error?  If so how did you fix it?
Itunes could not connect to itunes store.  The network connection timed out.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, and try again.

Have you disabled any firewall and security/antivirus programs?  This seems to have helped the vast majority of people who have posted the same problem in this forum.

I am having similar issues except that the store starts to load, then stops, then I only get iTunes Store in gray letters on a white screen. I can access playlist and the other stuff. Like flamesgirl, I contacted them and they just keep sending me links of stuff to try which I had already seen on the Apple website and nothing works. I posted the question on another forum I belong to and one responder said her husband was in an Apple store and asked about this problem as he was having the same issue. They said an update would be coming out soon as they were aware of the problem. Who knows.

What do I do when it says "make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active" when I am trying to update or restore my ipod?

Are yo getting a network timeout error?
Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

  • Trashed plists to fix the problem 'Your network settings have been changed

What is the easiest way to get back the plists that I trashed when following advice on how to fix :Your network settings have been changed.

Drag them out of the trash and put them back to the place from which you dragged them to the trash. If you emptied the the trash they are basically gone (unless you want to go to the excessive step of file recovery with $100 software and a spare empty drive). By the way, they are automatically created again with default settings when you invoke features that need them so it's not like you have a hole in your computer file collection.
