There is another computer listed in my "Shared" who or what is it?

It looks like there is a third system that is shared on my sidebar. I have an airport extreme and an express for wireless music.
In my finder sidebar it lists my Airpot extreme, which gets me to the external hardrive that I have connected. Then it lists the other Mac book we have in the house.
Then there is another, it is listed as "mac002332be716e". It won't let me log in and when I click "get info" it says that it is a PC Server. What or who is this?
Thanks for the help!

It may just be the Express showing up for some reason. The "MAC002332be716e" sounds like it is the MAC address for the device. I would check Airport Utility and if the Express shows up, click on it to see it's mac address and see if it matches. If it is the address, it should look like MAC 00:23:32:be:71:6e. If it does not match, try clicking on the Airport Extreme and goint to the Logs and summaries page to see the MAC addresses for any DHCP or wireless clients, it may give more information about what it is.

  • How does another computer show up as "shared" in my file sidebar?

how does another computer show up as "shared" in my file sidebar?

If you are seeing someone else's computer in your sidebar it is because they have 'shared' something on their computer and hence made it available to you. If you share something on your computer then your computer would become visible in their sidebar.
You can access their shared computer without them being able to access yours. They do not have to do anything on your computer to make theirs available to you. All they have to do is tell you what username and password to use to access their computer.

  • .tif files wouldn't open with Reader XI. It said  they weren't supported or were damaged. I uninstalled readerXI and installed Reader DC and it still doesn't work. When I send them to another computer, they open without any problems. What can I do next?

Reader XI would not open several files. It said .tif was not a supported file type or it was damaged. I uninstalled Reader XI and installed Reader DC with the same results. When sent to another computer, they open with no problems. What do I do next?

The other computer must have something that opens .tif files. Adobe Reader has always only opened .pdf files.
If you are double clicking on a .pdf and Reader is trying to open the file, you need to set your systems file associations for the proper program to open that file type.

  • How do you import songs from your phone into another computer im on home sharing but it wants to wipe my music clean off when i clink to sync?

trying to sync my old phone into a home sharing laptop to update all my music but unfortunatley it just wants to wipe clean my iphone of all the music ive purchased over the last year - how can i update this new itunes with a few songs already on it - from my phone, without losing any songs?

The iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time.  If you sync to another it will erase the current content from the iphone and repalce with content from the new computer.

  • I am teaching school music and have an ipod classic.  Now I have been asked to teach more grades at the middle school but there is another computer and the lady who taught had her ipod classic.  I would like to transfer my music from the first school.

I have been teaching music K-3 and had all my music downloaded on my ipod classic.  Great!  Then they asked me to additoinally teach 4-6 at the middle school.  THe former teacher left her ipod classic with music on it but I would like to download the music from my other school on this computer so I have assess to all my music.  How can I do that?

Send me an email and I will tell you how to do this.
It's actually very simple but Apple says you cannot do it.
    Trust me, you can.

  • My itunes erroneously says that my ipod is synced with another computer when I try to sync. What can I do to fix this?

First, right after updating my iTunes to the latest version, my iTunes will not display album covers. It says exactly "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer." It has never been an issue before, but, anyway... that is where it all started.
Then I read a bunch of Apple Support topics on the subject, and it directed me to replace my library file with a previous library file. So, I did, and now, not only will my albums not display, but my iPod Touch will not sync with my computer, the only computer I have ever used it on. It says that the ipod is synced with another library and asks me if I want to erase and sync (I have my music on my computer, but I will lose all of my apps and such).
What can I do to resolve this? Thanks for the help.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Why is there a 5 computer limit fo synching with Itunes? What if the other 5 computers have crashed.hard drive dead how do I sync with a new computer if I can't "de-authorise" old computer??

I have a few (8) computers with some having died of old age and hardiac failure with itunes loaded and synced with my devices. Need to sync current content but cannot "authorise" another more youthful computer without access to the old dearly departed computers. What gives- was this scenario not foreseen. is there no other way to de-authorise a computer but to perform a resurrection of the dead?

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article.

  • Local vs. Shared -- who does what?

One place that the documentation I'm finding is thin in
discussing is how someone who is on a shared server deploys a
    ColdFusion/Flex app.
For instance, my host is very helpful, but still, I don't
have direct access to anything above my domain. I'm trying to
figure out where the files that are in
C:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot\WEB-INF (i.e., all of the various xml
documents -- crossdomain.xml, services-config.xml, etc.) need to go
and what I need to tell them to set in them.
Has anyone on a shared sever made this work? Can you share
    your wisdom?

  • Multiple versions of same computer listed under shared (with a number added)

    Hi,
This is not Yosemite specific as  I found numerous posts from earlier systems but no solution. I have 4 macs connected to this specific network. For whatever reason after running for months with no issue the iMac is now listed multiple times and a number is added. The previous computers do not work (as shortcuts). When reading up on  the problem, this should only happen if there are numerous macs with the same name on the same network. This is not the case the name listed under system prefs -> Sharing is unique. I tried to delete the extra number and restart the system but it never seems to stick. Looking into the Bonjour network I can find these same references. I assume the iMac thinks there is another computer with the same name and thus adds another system. This also carries over to the other computers as it lists the imac multiple times. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Can I delete the bonjour/apple file protocol prefs and as such delete all the systems?
I have turned smb/afp on/off I have renamed the system, restarted it and then going back to the old name to no avail.
    Thanks for any ideas,
    Philly

There are several possible causes for this behavior.
    1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local". Resolve the name conflict by renaming one or more of them in the Sharing preference pane.
    2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
    3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is a bug in OS X that may only affect some models.
    4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
    5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.
    6. If the router is an Apple device, it may need to be restarted.
    7. A third-party Bonjour device on the network is malfunctioning. Finding out which is a process of elimination.
    8. There is more than one DHCP server on the network. Typically, there would be two or more wireless access points configured to act as routers.

  • If I imported a CD into my iTunes library from one computer how can I listen to it from another computer?

If I imported a CD into my iTunes library from one computer how can I listen to it from another computer?  I imported music from a CD into my compter at work and when I got home and went to my iTunes account none of the songs were in my library.  I also noticed that on my Work computer there were a couple songs that I had to click on the little 'cloud' icon before I could listen to them (these were not songs I imported they were songs that were already in my library).  Not sure if this makes semse...help.

My question is since I have imported them into my iTunes library from one computer why can't I access them from my iTunes library from another computer that I have authorized to access whats in my library?  Is there no way to import songs only once into the library and then access them from all my authorized computers?
Only if you have iTunes Match or of the computers are on the same local network.

  • Controlling Preferences on Computer List Doesn't Work

    Hi All,
I'm sure I am doing something dopey, but I can't figure out what.
I have an Xserve running Server OS 10.4.11 and a lab on a subnet, 17 clients running OS 10.5.7. These computers are connected to en1 via a switch, and receiving IP addresses via DHCP (in the 192.168 range). Share points work fine, as does web accesses and network user accounts.
There are two computer lists in the room - one is for a "teacher station," and the other 16 machines are on a seperate "Lab" computer list. On the "teacher station," when I open Directory Utility, I enter the name of the server, it finds it right away and preferences are controlled. All is well.
However, the other clients' Directory Utility cannot find the OD master. Further, when I am in "Workgroup Manager," I note that if I browse for clients using the "..." button, none of those 16 iMacs appear in the list. I added the machines manually, entering their MAC addresses, but it does not appear to be effective.
I am looking to see what is different between the teacher station and the 16 student machines and can only see one thing, which is the NetBIOS name - for the student machines, it is identical ("lab") but since there is no Windows anywhere to be found in the setup, I don't understand why this would be the issue. Nor do I understand where I would make this change if I needed to - changing it locally is not effective, and it is all "dimmed" or "greyed out" anyway.
    What am I missing?
    Many thanks!

Can you reduce it down to a 20-line test case?  If so, post it.

  • On my computer Mozilla's default searcher is Yahoo, while on another computer Mozilla's default searcher is Google. How could I make Google be Mozilla's default searcher on my computer too?

When I open the default web site of Firefox on my computer, and write something, it searches according to Yahoo. There is another computer on which if I write something on the default web site of Firefox, it searches according to Google. I want the default web site of Firefox to search according to Google on my computer too. I tried to change my default searcher many ways, but I did not manage. Yahoo is ineradicable! I cancelled my Firefox, and downloaded again, but the default searcher remained Yahoo. What could I do to get free of Yahoo?

    Dear Gryllida,
thank you very much for your message, but sorrowly it was not helpful to me. I did what you suggested: I reset my keyword.URL and chose Google as my search engine, but nothing has changed. Do you have another idea?
    With best regards
