Trying to connect from hotel room, via wireless, when I try to connect either with voice or video I get the message "There is insuffcient bandwidth to maitain the conference". Works fine at home able to connect via voice and video with no problems.
Any thoughts.

There answer is not that straight forward.
The quotes Minimum for iChat is 100kbps Up and Down.
The absolute Min is 50kbps throughput in real time before the Error message appaears.
Testing your connection speed may confirm that you are getting about 80% of the quoted figure (about 51kbps). iChat will use about 80% of what is left (about 40kbps).
So you are going to need an Uplink of at least 256Kbps (based on the next step down is likely to be 128).
I know that this can be difficult to get is Australia.
Some people in OZ do manage with a 128k upload.

When trying to do a video link with another Mac user over AIM I often get the "There isn't enough bandwidth to maintain the chat" message." Both of us are on broadband. A few times I got a connection but it was all pixalated. IM text works fine. Video... not at all.
This iMac is only 2 days old and so far everything is great. I DID migrate from Tiger on a Mini so maybe I got some old system file somewhere?

Aim and iChat Video are compatible.
iChat can potentially send a pic of 640 X 480 pixels (0.3Mp) at 30 Frames a sec.
That's the same as trying to send a 10Mp pic every second.
(As a rough guide, a .jpg of twice the dimensions is about 500kb = about 250kb for the same size = 75kbps
Or a 22sec movie I have is rated at 135kbps)
The quality of Skype is a lot less than this which is why it tends to work but still be jerky as the Satellite end is at it's limit.
Yes, Skype uses a different Video protocol to that used by iChat and AIM (or even MSN or Yahoo or GoogleTalk)

my database is centralized on linux 4 OS and we have above than 400 client connect to it, and the network bandwidth size is compatible but every day from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM the network become slowdown because there are consuming the network bandwidth, all of the clients from 1:00 to 3:00 they are send the requests to the database and for that reason the network become slow for the huge of transaction.
so we don't want to increase the bandwidth.
NOTE:-
all the client can send the requests from 7:00 AM upto 5:00 PM
is there any configuration file or parameter that allow me to control the bandwidth to each client ?

It would be easier to throttle traffic at the network level than the sqlnet level.
If you use sqlnet over ssh you get encryption in addition to some compression. (I have not tested this)
Some user education may help - e.g tell them to use proper select criteria instead of big searches.
Some application development may help - e.g move more processing from the client to the DB.

Adding participants to the conference by dilout

Hi everyone,
We have a problem with Lync 2013 conferences.
When we try to add a participant by calling him to the phone number - we receive error that "Phone number can not be reached".
If try to add the same number few times - it will dial normally. It usually takes up to 4 times for number to be dialed.
If dial directly from Lync (not from the conference) - no one have any problem.
Can some one suggest something?

We have 2013 Lync, containing 3 FE servers with collocated meditation servers and DNS load balancing. 2 EDGE servers, also with DNS load balancing. And 2 Cisco ISR as BorderElements.
I'm not able to find any related error in event log.

This happens with multiple numbers randomly. It can be so that you need to redial number 4 times to dial out and next day same number will dial out from the first try.
It happens when users dial out from the conference to any PSTN destination.
And we transform all numbers to International with Lync normalization rules.
Internally we have numbers like "tel:+37517293*****;ext=7XXX"
We have only one DialIn plan with region assigned.

Did the issue happen only for one special number or for multiple numbers?
Did the issue also happen if other Lync users start Lync conferences and add a participant by calling him with the phone number?
Did the number you invited a PSTN number or an internal phone number?
Please check if all dial plans are assigned regions. If not, you can run the
Get-CsDialPlan and
Set-CsDialPlan cmdlets to make sure that all dial plans have a region assigned.
You can use the Test-CsDialInConferencing cmdlet to test that the access numbers for the specified pool work correctly.

each standard has its own specification about media, connectors and protocols. Depending on the type of media and technologies that ware available when the standard has been defined, a maximum speed has also been defined. The speed depends on the specific media (copper or optical, twisted pair or coax, cat 5 or cat 6), electrical signals (volts, waveform, clock), distance between device,.... each protocol defines a maximum speed. It's true that ethernet protocols have a very high speed but over a copper line they are also limited to 100 meters while other serial protocols, xDSL for example, can transmit up to 20Mbps over copper line over a distance of some kilometre. So speed reduction is often a way to have longer connections.

You are actually completely wrong, a malicous website could do anything from sending a fork bomb to your computer to opening a shell and controlling your computer completely: examples from stackexchange:::
With access to bash, even from the POV of a web user, the options are endless. For example, here's a fork bomb:

Just put that in a user agent string on a browser, go to your web page, and instant DoS on your web server.
Or, somebody could use your server as an attack bot:
() { :; }; ping -s 1000000 <victim IP>
Put that on several other servers and you're talking about real bandwidth.
Other attack vectors:

There's endless other possibilities: reverse shells, running servers on ports, auto-downloading some rootkit to go from web user to root user. It's a shell! It can do anything. As far as security disasters go, this is even worse than Heartbleed.

Bandwidth montioring at the user level

I'm considering a mac mini server with Snow Leopard. One of the things I want to implement is a user level bandwidth monitor and domain level monitor. I expect to at have at least 3 groups using the server. I want to monitor or even limit their monthly band width usage, so that the server doesn't go over it's monthly allotment from the host.
Can anyone point me to how this could work? Is it ntop or squid or something else?

I think you're confused about how this could work.
Unless the server is acting as the internet gateway, there's no way this can work at all. Typically clients send their data directly to the network router and this traffic wouldn't be seen by the server at all, therefore there's no way to monitor it.
If you use Squid you'd be able to track web usage per client, but that wouldn't count any traffic that doesn't go through the proxy (e.g. email, IM, P2P, DNS, FTP, etc., etc., etc.) - in other words it would only give you a partial picture.
Even if the server was set as the gateway and could monitor all the traffic you still can't do this on a per user basis - all you know is that a specific client IP address generated (or received) a certain volume of traffic. You have no idea which user on that system generated the traffic.
This might not be a big deal on machines used by individuals, but would be near impossible on a multi-user basis. Either way there's no 'group' concept.
The way this is typically done is via traffic accounting systems built into your router and/or switch. The switch can monitor traffic throughput per port, so you can tell which machines send what volume of traffic. The router can do similar tracking, and should have the ability to track internal vs. external traffic (e.g. you might not charge for traffic to/from internal machines, only to/from the internet).

I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past. The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box. If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
