  • Can I display an "Organize Bookmarks" menu item in FF 10?

As I recall (albeit perhaps incorrectly), there used to be an "Organize Bookmarks" menu item in FF that is not being displayed in the FF 10 bookmarks menu. Is there a means to display such a menu item?
    Thanks

That menu item was renamed to '''Show All Bookmarks''' back in the Firefox 4.0 version.

  • What happened to the "Organized Bookmarks" menu item in FF5?

I want to export my FF5 bookmarks for backup and syncing purposes, and so I looked up "Exporting bookmarks to an HTML File" in Help and I read this: "On the menu bar, click on the Bookmarks menu and choose Organize Bookmarks....". In my copy of FF5, there is no such menu item???

I can't understand why "Organize Bookmarks" was changed to "Show All Bookmarks", the former was obvious to its intent, the latter would imply that some bookmarks in the list were hidden!

  • Create an context menu item to open a file on a specific display

    Hello,
I have an external display connected to my MBP, but I don't always need to use it so it's not always on. I'd like to have a way to open a file (or application) on a specified display on a case by case basis. I know that I can assign an application to open on a specific display by right-clicking on the app in the dock and selecting options->assign to. The problem with this is that it's a global change. When I'm working on school work, I usually like to have reference material (pdfs, wepages, etc) open on the external display while I'm working in Word on the MBPs monitor.
What I'd like to be able to do is right click on the file (or app) and use a context menu item to open the item on a specific display. Does anyone know of an automator action/applescript/terminal command to create a context menu item like this?
    Thanks.

I use "Open Terminal Here" script for that:

  • After upgrading to Firefox 8 there are no bookmarks in the sidebar when it is displayed. The bookmarks are there under the Bookmarks menu. History appears in the sidebar

There are no bookmarks in the bookmarks sidebar. The only way I can access my bookmarks is by clicking on the Bookmarks Menu. All booksmarks and folder then show up in the drop down menu - but when I go to organise them, there is nothing listed under Organise. My history will show up in the sidebar. I can't find a way to sort my bookmarks, and don't know if I can save a new bookmark.

    Open or close History Sidebar --> CTRL+H <br />
Open or close Bookmarks Sidebar --> CTRL+B
Click the small "x" to the right of the word History or Bookmarks in the Sidebar will close that sidebar<br />
If the History Sidebar is open, CTRL+B will close it and open the Bookmarks Sidebar<br />
If the Bookmarks Sidebar is open, CTRL+H will close it and open the History Sidebar

  • After upgrading from 3.6.16 (Mac) to v. 4, the "organize Bookmarks" menu item is gone. Also, the Downloads window will not come up (I have reset the Toolbars as suggested elsewhere.)

    The above says it all:
No "Organize Bookmarks" item at all in the Bookmarks menu.
I have the prefs set to display the Downloads window when downloading, but it doesn't appear. Downloads do happen correctly. Clicking on the Downloads item in the Tools menu does nothing. I reset toolbars as suggested somewhere else on the troubleshooting site - no joy.

    Thanks re: Bookmarks.
After going through all the routines suggested in the link above (and other related links,) I got the Downloads window to open when making a new download, but clicking on Downloads in the Tools menu still will not reveal the window manually.

  • Cannot rearrange Bookmarks Menu items

Ever since I switched to Lion, I cannot rearrange the sites in my Bookmark Menu. I used to be able to click and drag items to rearrange them. Now when I do that, they stay put for a moment, then revert to their original position. Consequently, I have bookmarks I don't even need anymore at the top of my list, so I have to scroll through the list to find the bookmarks I need regularly.
Did something change? All I can find is a "how to" article from 2012, but it recommends the same drag and drop method that used to work before I got Lion.
    I'm running 10.7.5 with Safari 6.1.3 on a late 2011 MacBook Pro.

I just saw this in another post. It apparently worked for someone else, but for some reason I cannot send a reply or comment to get more info so I'll paste it here and then ask my questions:
"With Bookmarks selected, select the Edit button at the bottom left. You can delete a bookmark, or re-arrange the bookmarks by selecting the icon at the far right of a bookmark and dragging the bookmark up or down placing it where you want in the list. You can also create a new folder by selecting New Folder at the bottom right. Select Done when finished."
    My questions are
    1) What do they mean by "with Bookmarks selected"? I have clicked the little book in the bookmark toolbar which opens the sidebar of bookmark lists. Is that what they mean?
    2) then they say to select the Edit button at the bottom left. I don't have an Edit button at the bottom left!!! All I have is a + sign, which I assume would create a new folder or something.
    3) they say you can create a new folder by selecting New Folder at the bottom right. I don't have any New Folder at the bottom right.
    4) they say select Done when finished. I don't have a Done anywhere.

  • Two "Adobe Reader" menu items in "Open with" context menu

Is there a simple remedy to the problem of multiple occurrences of "Adobe Reader" in the context menu?
That is, in the Finder, on Mac OS 10.6.8, I see two instances of "Adobe Reader" in the "Open with..." context menu...
    thank you in advance.

    Hi!
thanks for the response! I would be happy to find the root cause of this issue (or at least find and remove the data in the facility called Launch Services.
I have no additional binaries of Adobe Reader on the disk. One only.
I think there is some crufty data somewhere, which Launch Services is reading and hence displaying the erroneous menu item.
I suspect the Adobe Reader installer is somehow responsible for this. This was a clean and newly built system disk.
I have been reading the following:
How to rebuild the LaunchServices database
Launch Services Framework Release Notes for Mac OS X v10.5
    Rebuild Launch Services Database
Now, I tried resetting the "global Launch Services database".
I must restart Finder to see if this was successful. Until later...

  • In the topmost Firefox menu with File,Edit,View,History,Bookmarks, I can not get the list of bookmarks to display as they did before. The Bookmarks menu does not open up into the list of bookmarks.

I am running Mac os 10.6.8 and Firefox 6.0.1 on a MacBook Pro and on a desktop Macintosh.
The large computer displays a list of bookmarks when you click on the uppermost Bookmarks menu.
The MacBook Pro displays the following when you click on the Bookmarks word in the top menu:
"Show all Bookmarks, Bookmark this Page, Bookmark all Tabs and an icon with a blue dot next to Bookmarks Toolbar with an arrow to the right and below that it says Unsorted Bookmarks.
There is no display of the list of bookmarks from which I can chose as I do on the larger desktop macintosh computer.
How can I get the list of bookmarks to show as a list when I click the Bookmarks menu?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Top navigation menu items should open in new tab

In a share point 2013 site, i have created top navigation using term set from managed meta data. some of the menu items navigate the user with in the site whereas some other menu items will navigate to the external sites. My requirement is I want to open
external links in new tab and internal links in same tab itself.
    Please advise.
    Regards,
    Chaitanya.

Assuming that internal URL are relative and external urls are absolute, you can use a jQuery script to add target="_blank" attribute to the links.

  • Is there a way to remove items from "Open With" list?

I have an interesting dilemma that I have not yet found an answer to in all of my internet/discussion forum searches.  Maybe I'm asking the wrong questions or searching in the wrong places, but I've given up and now have to post the question in hopes there's an answer out there.
My issue is that whenever I want to use the "Open With" feature for an image/jpeg file, the list of choices is massive! Looking at it now, it lists over 30 applications, but at most I would only ever want to open this type of file in one of maybe four applications.
Starting off, I used to have Parallels on my computer.  Have since purchased VMWare Fusion 4 and now use that as my virtual machine to run Windows for some of my design work.  As far as I know, I had removed ALL of Parallels from my computer when I uninstalled the app.  I followed all of the instructions in the uninstall process, but there seems to be something left behind.
It may seem that mentioning that wouldn't have anything to do with the "Open With" function, but here is a screen shot to show what happens whenever I right-click an image file:
    http://www.virtuosocreative.com/apple/openwith1.jpg
Most of the time, if I right click the image, it'd be to open in Photoshop or Set as Desktop.  On occasion I have had to open a jpeg file in Illustrator, but that's it.
For some reason, there are still Parallels applications showing on the "Open With" list, even though it was uninstalled and removed from my computer.  But like I said earlier, it looks like I missed something.
In addition, although I am not logged into Windows or have Fusion running in the background, the "Open With" list includes all of the suggested Windows apps as well.  why???
As much as I appreciate there being such an abundance of options to choose from, this gets extremely annoying when using the feature and I wanted to see if there was any way to modify this list.
More than anything, I really want to get rid of all the Parallels extras that are left on my system.  But also, I wanted to see if there was a setting to tweak so that whenever I click on "Open With" on my Mac, it'll only list applications that are my Mac applications and nothing through Fusion or Parallels or anything else.  And to take it a step further, it'd be nice to shorten the list to only applications I would personally use for opening a jpeg file. (i.e. Preview (default), Photoshop, Illustrator, Safari).
    My system is a 2010 iMac i5 2.8GHz/8GB RAM. Lion OS X 10.7.3
    Thanks!

The Open With menu is built by LaunchServices which collects the information from each app as to what it says it can open. VMWare appears to be registering every app to open jpegs.
You might try rebuilding the LaunchServices database. I believe this command still works in Lion. Or, you could use a utility like OnyX to call it:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

  • There is no Exit menu item on my Files menu, can't add Adobe Acrobat Document to Applications.

    Firefox 3.6.12, Reader 9.4, (reinstalled).
Firefox downloads a pdf file rather than opening it.
Adobe Acrobat Document is not listed as an application (Tools>Options>Applications from FF menu).
FF support page suggests opening profile, then File>Exit and deleting a file. However, there is no Exit option on my File menu.
The Adobe forum feels that this is a Firefox problem, especially since Reader works file with both IE8 and Chrome.
I want to make it work in Firefox....any ideas?
    Thanks.

Solved with a workaround. Initial confusion was that Exit was referring to the main Firefox browser, not the window that opened with File. Then had to delete the dll file suggest by Mozilla support. There was also an apparent conflict between Adobe Acrobat and Reader.
    Working for now.

  • "Organize Bookmarks" does not appear under Bookmarks menu, even though Help advises to go there.

I've needed to eliminate Bookmarks. Because I have no "Organize Bookmarks" or "Manage Bookmarks" option under the Bookmarks menu, I've tried dragging bookmarks off the list onto my desktop. I've tried right-clicking to get a "delete" option (but there is none). I've gone to "Help" where I'm advised to click on the Bookmarks menu item, select "Organize Bookmarks," and proceed from there. An image of the items in "Organize Bookmarks" appears in this "Help" instruction. BUT -- "Organize Bookmarks" does not appear when I click the Bookmarks menu item.

That menu item was changed to '''Show All Bookmarks''' in Firefox 4.0.
