  • Keychain First Aid screwed up my keychain

I ran Keychain First Aid, and it said there were problems with a few of the email passwords as no port was specified. I ran repair and my entire list of keychain items disappeared. The user file still exists, and when I viewed it in a text editor, the original keychain items are still in the file.
It will not let me select 'keychains' in the list, and defaults to 'System', which only shows a certificate for 'Dashboard Advisory'. When I was in my browser to log on to Apple Support, it asked for access to the keychain item, so applications can still access the keychain items, but I can't access or view them within Keychain. It will not let me import the file.
I did run repair disk permissions, but it didn't help. I was going to try rebooting to see if that helped and have made a backup of the original file, but I'm afraid of losing everything in Keychain Access when I do.
Any help would be most appreciated. Is there a way to get the information out of the keychain file and reenter it in Keychain as a new account? Is there a UNIX fix for this?
    Thanks in advance.

This is resolved, as rebooting actually brought the account and its passwords back into view in Keychain Access. I still don't know why it disappeared in the first place.

  • I have a macbook pro os x 10.7.5 and my mail dispappeared from my dock. I cannot get it to reopen. Have tried keychain first aid but there is no problem.

I have a macbook pro os 10.7.5 and my mail icon has disappeared from my dock with a pop up box that says Mail Quit Unexpectedly. I have used the spotlight to find Mail, and have tried several more times to open the mail, but it closes with the same pop up. I also tried using the keychain first aid, but there is no apparent problem to repair. Anybody have any ideas?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Keychain First Aid  won't run

    Hi,
I have a user that I am trying to import the EntrustCA into her x509 Anchors keychain. It won't import, never brings up a login screen to authenticate. Once I click to do this, I then cannot open any keychain to list its contents, and have to force quit Keychain Access.
If I do not click to import anything, Keychain Access lets me view what's inside.
I have tried to run Keychain First Aid, but it quite and won't fix anything.
I have tried deleting all keychains at user level, reboot, let it create a new login keychain, but still does not fix the problem and I still cannot import anything into x509 Anchors.
In order for user to send encrypted emails via Entourage (as there is NO plug in from PKI) we have to use certificates with private key information. This won't work unless the EntrustCA is in x509 Anchors!!
Any suggestions on how to fix keychain?
    Lisa

In Mac OS X 10.4.10 I already see several Entrust root certificates. Are your sure you need to add another CA? What you need to be importing is the user's own certificate file rather than the Entrust root certificate. Are you able to do this?
After the user's certificate is installed then you can then select it in the user's Entourage account.
    Hope this helps!

  • "Keychain First Aid" resets all my passwords on startup - every time

I ran "Keychain First Aid" in Keychain to Repair any problems it found. It found none. Now, when I restart my computer, ALL of my Keychain passwords are reset. Why does this happen? And how do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

I seem to have fixed the problem by creating a new keychain. But for the life of me, I can't figure out why this problem would arise in the first place.
    EDIT:
After creating my new keychain and adding new items to it, and then running First Aid to check what would happen (using the Repair instead of Verify), I see that it deleted my login keychain - again. Here's the log:
    Repair started
Checking keychain configuration for Gary (user ID=501)
    Home directory is /Users/gary
    Checked login keychain
    Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked default keychain
    Checked keychain search list
    No problems found
    Repair completed
    Why does it do this?
I also found my old keychain, and just re-imported it again. But, this appears to be, well, a very blatantly obvious bug.

  • Keychain First Aid Fails

Not remembering a web site login, I opened Keychain Access to look it up and noted that it wasn't storing ANY web site passwords. I ran Keychain First aid which found a problem, but failed to repair my Keychain with the message:
"User differs on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist, should be 501, owner is 0
Owner not corrected on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist, reason: No such file or directory"
Yet, I can see the "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist" file, and have opened it in Omnioutliner. I've already repaired permissions and run Disk Warrior 3.0.3 to no avail; same erroneous error message. Help?

A couple of things to try. Move the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist to the trash, but don't delete it. Restart and try Keychain First Aid. If it works, quit the app, and empty the trash. If you have a backup of your system, move the ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain to the desktop, copy over the backup, restart, and try it again. Report back.

  • Everytime I start Macbook Air it goes straight to disk utility, First Aid shows HD but when I try and reboot from HD it doesn't show up?

    Hi,
My Macbook Airs been having trouble the last couple of weeks, it got quite slow and then was taking forever to load. I tried rebooting in Safe Mode and it ran disc and permission repairs and it came back saying everything was ok (however I could still click the repair after when it normally grey's out).
The other day I turned it on and it went straight to Disc Utility, I ran the repairs again on my Hard drive - still said everything was okay. Went to the Apple menu and tried to startup from disc, but my hard drive doesn't appear - there are no options for me to start up from.
I also tried re-installing Yosemite from a USB, when I tried this my hard drive did appear with an exclamation mark on it. When I clicked this and tried to re-install it told me there wasn't enough space available? I should also mention that when I was originally doing First Aid I also erased everything to see if that would work so there should be no reason why there's no space!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Boot into the recovery partition (COMMAND + R) and see if you can reinstall the OSX from the 4 option menu.
    Ciao.

  • Keychain First Aid won't repair and will ask me for keychain agent password

    Hi everyone:
Background: I changed my Apple Id password after updating to OS X Mavericks. Soon after that, OS X sometimes asks me for keychain password (not always), sometimes at the beginning and when I use Safari, or try to access to Icloud (which I can only access online on safari) through system preferences.
    Problem #1:
    -  When I use First Aid Keychain and enter my User name and password, two options appear: Verify and Repair.
    - If I hit verify, some things appear in black, some other in red and some in blue, the following things appear:
        In red:
~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain (is not a valid keychain file).
       In Blue:
Keychain password of  ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain (100022) not verified
Adjustments of  ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain (100022) were not read (couldn´t been read)
      In Red
~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain (-25295) was not opened (couldn´t been opened)
Problems have been found. Select repair.
      Verification error.
    - Then, if i hit repair It will ask me "for keychain agent password".
And honestly I never (that I remember) created a keychain agent password. Where can i find that?, what kind of password is that? What I know is that it is not my Apple Id password or anything close to it.
    Problem #2
    - If try try to restore my default keychain by selecting Preferences - General, it will tell me that the "keychain has not been found". And wont restore anything.
I must say that I have read many of the discussions available and many of Apple suggested solutions, and nothing seems to help.
Any help would be deeply apreciated.
Best regards. (Sorry for my english, not a native speaker, my computer is in spanish and did my best to translate what I have seen)
    Macbook Air, OS X 10.9, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1600 Mhz DDR3

Hi John (it´s me again sorry!)
I did what you suggested using Safe Mode (I actually did it following http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204 for oS X Mavericks).
    I followed the same steps that I have done before;
    - Before deleting I used First aid Keychain and what I got was the following:
    - Then I hit repair and I got the following:
    - After that I decided to delete Login Keychain (the empty square), it was gone. I restarted my computer in normal mode. Once I did that what I see now is the following:
    - Maybe I missed something, and I still cant see the padlock in login, and no way no decipher whats going on.
    PERHAPS THE FOLLOWING IS RELATED:
    - If try log into ICloud through System Preferences the following pops up after entering my Apple ID and Password:
    - If I select Reset to Defaults I get the following (even if I select cancel):
    - And after that I get the following:
Could that be related? Thank you very much again and sorry for too many images.
    All the best!

  • Keychain intrusive; no repairs necc. per "first aide"

Something happened to my email yesterday and rather than doing a hard boot (which I now feel I should have done), I tried to fix it. It wouldn't let me quit Mail at all, so I went into Utilities--why escapes me now. I ended up in the Keychain window. I checked my password and it is correct, then I noticed that there was an expired certificate of some kind. In my stupidity, I decided to delete this in order to "clean up" my Keychains. I ended up (accidently) deleting my entire Keychain list/inventory--and there is no getting that back (apparently). I asked a Mac user friend and he said, no worries, you'll just have to re-enter them as you go.
Ok, fine. But now every freaking time I open the MacBook, it asks me for the damned thing. I ran Keychain First Aide and it says no repair needed. This is a PITA to have to keep inputting my password. It does it for Mail, for my homepage on Safari etc.
Is the Keychain supposed to be locked to prevent this or is it supposed to be unlocked to prevent this? How do I get it to stop asking me for my password every time I turn around? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
The irony is that now my email works just fine--after a hard boot. I didn't need to mess with keychains and I am very sorry I did....

If you open Keychain Access, there's a help function. Most of what you can do to the keychain is in those four topics.

  • Keychain no longer shows passwords

Since the change to Mavericks my keychain no longer shows passwords, my iPhone no longer logs onto Skype and I can't look up the password any more in my keychain.
    What has gone wrong?

What happens if you double click on a password in Keychain Access? I get a show password option.
You also might try running Keychain First aid and as a last resort, try resetting the original keychain.

  • Mail Login Info not showing up in Keychain

Our internet provider just changed their email system from the Google partner program to something else. I made new accounts using the info that they provided and everything works well. It's just that my login information for the email account didn't automatically get entered into Keychain Access and I was wondering why. Has anyone seen this issue before?  I have OS X 10.10 yosemite . Thanks.

    Try running Keychain First Aid.

    Bryan,
Do you have a second hard drive?  If you can get the install disk to boot the computer then all is not lost.  Install a clean system on a second hard drive to get back in business.  If you have any backup copies of your software and files, use them to restore your computer to good working condition.
Then, install some form of data recovery software on your second drive.  The recovery software can look at a bit mapped version of your drive and extract data that may be scrambled but usable.  Think of the drive as a book.  If someone tore out a few pages from the table of contents or index from a book, the main volume would be there but the book would not be repairable.  Or, if the table of contents is OK but someone tore out a chapter or two, the other chapters would be there.  The book is not complete but all is not lost.
Here is a review to get you up to speed:
    http://data-recovery-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-recovery-software/
Start by getting your computer working off a clean install on a second drive so the data recovery process will work faster and have a destination for the recovered data.
    Jim~

  • What Does This Color Sync Profile First  Aid Log Mean??

I have been helping a friend trouble shoot some printing problems he is having with iPhoto. In the process, he ran verify in Profile First Aid in Color Sync. He got some errors and asked me to run mine. Here is my result:
    Searching for profiles...
    Checking 929 profiles...
    /Library/Printers/EPSON/LaserPrinter/Common/PageLibraries/Resources/Printer16/LP -8200C_Standard.icc
Tag 'cprt': Text tag has an incorrect length.
Tag 'cprt': Text contains invalid characters.
    /Library/Printers/Lexmark/510SeriesPM.plugin/Contents/Resources/510SeriesProfile .icc
Header white point is not D50.
    /Library/Printers/Lexmark/710SeriesPM.plugin/Contents/Resources/710SeriesProfile .icc
Header white point is not D50.
    /Library/Printers/Lexmark/810SeriesPM.plugin/Contents/Resources/810SeriesProfile .icm
Header white point is not D50.
    /Library/Printers/Lexmark/P910SeriesPM.plugin/Contents/Resources/P910SeriesProfi le.icc
Header white point is not D50.
Verify done - found 5 bad profiles.
I am having no problems with color output when printing (that I know of). He has been having color balance and other problems printing from iPhoto. My errors are the exact same as his in this Profile First Aid Log. What is the significance of these errors? Should they be repaired?
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

    Hi Steve,
    The problem is something else.
This report is showing you there are 5 profile out of 929 that your OS doesn't agree with for whatever reason.
Your friends issue is different than yours (yours works fine & his doesn't), this report has the same info in it because it's looking at the same profiles installed in the OS.
How the profiles are applied depends on the output device, paper, inks, yadda-yadda-ya.
Do not try to repair the ICC's, as they're most likely just fine. You should be able to find suitable results in one of the other 924 profiles, even if that was the issue.
Look for something different between your setups.
We're happy to help, but we need to know more about how the user is trying to print when the errors occur.
Applications, driver versions, printer, color space, etc.
