There is no software update button on my Ipad

I have software version 4.3.5 (8L1) on my Ipad and i want to update the software. When i go to settnigs/general there is no software update button...
What do i do?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

You have to hook it up to a computer and update it to ios 5 and then there will be a "software update" button.

  • HT4623 My iPad does not have the automatic software update and I do not know how to download IOS if under settings there is no software update button available. Do I have to reset my iPad and lose data?

My iPad does not have the automatic software update and I do not know how to get IOS 6 onto it. When I go into settings there is no software update button.

If you are really on iOS 5 then look in Settings > General > Software update.
    Otherwise:
If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

  • Does anyone know how to update the software on an iPhone 4 when there is no software update button?!

Does anyone know how to update the software on an iPhone 4 when there is no software update button?!
    Many thanks.

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device. It will be updated to the newest iOS version supported by the device’s hardware.

You only get the Settings > General > Software Update when you have iOS 5+ installed on the iPad - if you are on iOS 4 then you will need to do the next udpate via your computer's iTunes.

  • How do I download ios5.1, there is no software update button in settings

I was going to download iOS 5.1 but then realized there was a more recent version out with numerous bug fixes caused by versions 4.3 and higher. So I looked up how to download it and every place said to go to settings, tap "General" and there will be a "Software Update" option for an 'over the air' wireless software update. But when I tried, there was no such illusive "Software Update" button.
How do I download iOS 5.1? I can't do it through iTunes because its meant for 'over the air'. But there's no way to do it without that button!

Everytime I try updating ios via iTunes, it is taking more than 3 hours and then session breaks saying "Timed Out"
I have been trying to update iOs since last 3 days using iTunes but of no help, please let me know any other alternative way by which I can update my iOs

  • HT4623 I am trying to update my software, settings, general and then there is no software update button?

I am not sure what operating system I have on my iphone 4, but it will not allow me to download Instagram or Dropbox. I need too update software, but following the directions, I have no software update button under settings, general?

To see what iOS you're running go Settings > General > About
The update option you're looking for is available with iOS 5 or later
    I suspect you're running iOS 4 read here > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972

  • HT4623 After I went to Settings General there was no software update button, any suggestions as to what I should do?

Has this happened to anyone else? The "Software Update" button was gone and I'm trying to update my software, is this common? Where could I find it? (
My laptop isn't working well so I'm avoiding it)

This feature is ONLY available when you are running ios 5 or later.
You would need to update as always - open itunes, connect iphone

  • HT4623 No software update button on my iPad

How do I update my IPad if there is no software update button

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • HT4623 After I press general, I see everything but Software update. Download and install does not even appear, it's not grayed out. There is no Software update button. Why is that?

I have an iPod touch 4G. I have been trying to skype with my friends with skype 5.0 and I was the only one that could not download it. Then I researched why and it says I need iOS 5.0. I then went back to research how to download it and on here it says that it should be in setting under general and then you will see software update. That if I don't have any room I will see download and install grayed out. But not even software update is there. There's no button. It basically does not exist on my iPod 4. Why is this?

That is only a feature of iOS 5 or later...
