There is no sound when mirroring to my AppleTV from my iMac.

I have a brand new AppleTV that purchased less than a week ago and fully updated the software along with a late 2013 iMac running Yosemite (installed a couple of days ago).  Whenever I mirror from the iMac to the AppleTv there is no sound.
I don’t have any problems mirroring from either my iPad or iPhone the problem is only happening with my iMac.

Hey thorin01,
Thanks for the question. Let’s check to see if your sound output is set to your AirPlay device:

  • There's no sound when i connect to apple tv

    Hi,
There's no sound when i connect to apple tv from my macbook pro, i bought it 10 days ago and it got the newest updates, and the volume is turned on on the computer.  The sound works when i connect ipad and iphone but not the macbook pro with retina. Does anyone know how to get the sound to work?

    Hi,
Have you tried Option click on the sound icon in the status bar at top right of your screen? It shows the Output and Input options. Select your Apple TV there.

  • There is whirling sound when my macbook starts up

there is whirling sound when my macbook starts up

Sure! Not only your MBP dear gwforeman, everyone's does! Mine too, but without the disk in the drive. The hissing whirling sound starts sometimes at startup after the Mac's DING chime, sometimes when the MBP is up n' running and it starts in middle of nowhere. Seems something stuck in fan or MBP is protesting with a hissing sound that something is going wrong inside. Activity Monitor's report seems fine though.
No idea, what's going on.... Any buddy out there with a solution???

Providing you have rebooted & restarted with no success, it appears maybe your carrier has closed your account!
I would visit or call your carrier ASAP..............
1 other thought, did you get your Phone thro your carrier?

  • Why is there a clicking sound when I close the cover and enter sleep mode?

why is there a clicking sound when I close the cover and enter sleep mode?

    Hi katesvca,
I too have an iPad smart cover, and all that clicking sound is is basically the standard lock sound for iOS. The Smart cover is equipped with magnets inside, and the iPad is also equipped with magnets, and when those magnets are closed together the iPad goes to sleep.
I hope this answers your question.

  • HT204291 Showing checked screen when mirroring hd itunes movies from macbook to tv?

Showing checked screen when mirroring hd itunes movies from macbook to tv?

it's dvd's DRM encryption kicking in
it's by design if you use remote desktop from another computer to the computer
    the same thing would happen
people say that the free player vlc don't have the issue
if that is the case then vlc are breaking the law as stripping a dvd's movie stream of encryption is not really legal

  • People can't hear me on the other end when I make facetime calls from my Imac

People can't hear me on the other end when I make facetime calls from my IMAC

I had the same problem on my brand new iMac and Apple Care solved it for me. Very simple.
    1. Restart your computer
    2. As soon as you hear the chime, press the SHIFT button until you see the Apple logo, then release it. This will put your computer into safe mode. When your computer boots up to the home screen in safe mode, Facetime will NOT work. That's normal.
    3. After your computer finishes booting up to your home screen, restart it normally. That solved the problem for me.
Apple Care said that putting the computer into safe mode results in a diagnostics check that can fix certain problems. I hope this helps someone else.

  • No sound when mirroring

Hi, I'm new here, my name is Koen. I hope somebody can help me with my mirroring problem.
I'll try and make a detailed description of my setup and problem.
    Situation is as follows:
    - late 2012 iMac 21,5" base model running OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 (12E55)
    - Atv 3 (MD199NF/A) with the latest software (5.3 6105)
    - both ethernet connected through a modem/router and switch
I don't have any sound when using airplay mirroring. I've tried vlc, itunes & safari (youtube and a dutch video site).
If i use the direct airplay function of iTunes it works just fine. When I try mirroring after that, and back to airplay on itunes,
this stops working too. Only way to get the itunes airplay function working again is to select the airplay logo, multiple outputs, apple tv.
ATV3's standalone function of playing music from the itunes library never gives any problems.
Trying to reboot all devices involved sometimes gives the solution, but I can't seem to figure out who the culprit is.
Other times it just starts working, what appears to be completly random...
Because my bluray player works fine with my amp, and the standalone atv doesn't give any problems I figure it must be a software/driver issue.
Is there any way I can reset the driver from the terminal or maybe somebody has any suggestions??
    I'm fairly new to OSX.
    Cheers,
    Koen from the Netherlands.

With the introduction of Mavericks, I'm not experiencing these problems anymore.
I did find out a useful tip for people using mirroring with mountain lion:
Always return to non-mirroring / non-airplay if you're switching to another audio output. So from itunes airplay to mirroring, don't do it directly, but switch it off first. then the desired output.
From a working setup, when using this tip, the audio continued to output properly .
    Cheers,
    Koen

  • In my iPad mini, when my use in app streaming , there is no sound.. Can anybody help? It used to be ok before. For example, there is no sound when I use YouTube clip in a news item or magazine like pulse..

nno sound when I use in app streaming

    Hello Saranginotes,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with iOS audio issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
Can't hear anything from the built-in speaker of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Maybe you can hear, but the sound is distorted, muffled, intermittent. Or maybe you hear static or crackling noises. If your iOS device has any of these issues, follow these steps.
Follow these steps and test the sound after each one.
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.
If you can hear sound from the speaker, then the speaker works. Continue with these steps to find the setting or switch that's affecting the sound. If you can't hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring. If you can see orange, it's set to silent.
    Restart your device.
Open an app that has music or sound effects. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons or the slider in Control Center.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
If there's still no sound, connect a headset. If you can hear sound through the headset, remove it and clear any dust or debris from the headset jack of your device.
If the device is in a case, make sure that the case doesn't block the speaker.
Use a brush to gently clear any debris from the speaker and Lightning connector (or 30-pin dock connector). The brush should be clean and dry and have soft bristles.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
If you followed these steps and still hear no sound or distorted sound, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Bobby_D

  • There s no sound when I connect my aux wire with my Bose dock

There s no sound coming when I connect my Aux wire to my Bose dock.but my internal speakers are working perfectly , there's no output through aux

    Hey there,
I know this post is very old but maybe it can help someone else at some stage.
This is my very first post on Mac Support so I hope it helps in some way
So I had a similar issue with my panasonic LCD HD TV.
I have an early 2007 MBP with a DVI output, not a HDMI. I use a DVI to HDMI cable to connect the two devices.
I understand that the DVI output from the MBP does not include audio, just video.. Is that also the case with HDMI I'm not 100%. To carry the audio I used the 3.5mm headphone jack to the older 'analog' red white yellow connections. I think it was red yellow or red white.. anyway, easy find what the video colour is.
I understand that you might not have used the 3.5mm jack, however, what I did to fix it might still help you.
Firstly, check your HDMI cable as I hear that some don't carry audio...
After that, check your TV settings on HDMI 1 and be sure it is set to 'digital input'.
I had to change my audio input to analog as I used the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Until I did that I had zero audio... Maybe your TV is on analog audio input by default.
"15" Macbook Pro, 2.33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, 750GB HDD" < (unsure why people add this info but here it is anyway).. I have a Macintosh product, I swear !

  • When I convert my Videos to iPod there is no sound when I try to play them.

    Help Please,
I have some music videos in iTunes and I have hit the advanced button and converted the selection to iPod. It converts them so that I can put them on my iPod but there is no sound at all when the video plays on my iPod. When I do this procedure to convert the video on iTunes it pops up another copy of the video on the iTunes movie section which I am assuming is the converted video. If I click on the original video on iTunes the video will play and I hear the music. If I click on the converted version that goes to my iPod I see the video but hear no sound. I hope you guys have some help for me.
    Thanks in advance.

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Why does my Iphone 5 ring when I get a call, but can not figure out why there is NO sound when I get a text?

Why does my Iphone 5 ring when I get a call, but can't not figure out why it does not make a sound, when I receive a text or typing???

    Deborah,
The solutions on here did not work for me.   I tried.....
I have the same problem with a BRAND NEW iPhone 5c version 7.1- no sound when a text message arrives.
    (1) I have "do not disturb" scheduled correctly.   No partial moon on the main screen near the time and battery indicator.
    (2) I have the ringer icon correct with no slash.    Yes I turned the hardward mute switch to the UP position (ie the one above the + and - buttons on the left side.   I tried messaging with the bell as shown and bell with a slash and neither work.   The mute switch is not red (switch above the + volume hardware switch)     I enabled some assistant using the Settings menu.    And I press the dot (looks like a target symbol) and go to Devices and I can see what position the bell is in....either a bell with a slash or no slash.
    (3) Yes ringtones are configured for text and other. I can hear them when I am under settings > sounds.   But they do not link with the actual hardware.
    (4) I rebooted the iPhone 5c by using the button at top, slide the red bar, then pressed it again, apple came up for a minute and it seemed to be back up.
    (5) I upgraded the IPhone 5c from 7.0.4 to 7.1 using my pc and itunes.   And the upgrade was successful but did not fix the text issue.
    (6) I do not have it in airplane mode or silent mode.
    (7) I reset all settings using Setttings > General > reset > reset all settings .  this wipes settings but not data and media.
    This is really frustrating.
