  • HT4864 I am getting a triangle with an exclamation point next to my inbox...it says: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account "MobileMe" or try again.  The server returned the error: Mail was unable to log in

I can send but cannot recieve email
This is the messege I am gewtting:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again.
The server returned the error: Mail was unable to log in to the IMAP server “p02-imap.mail.me.com” using “Password” authentication. Verify that your account settings are correct.
The server returned the error: Service temporarily unavailable

Also if I go to system preferences accounts and re-enter the password it fixes the glitch sometimes.

  • Why do I get an "unable to connect - There may be a problem with the mail server or network." message from iCloud.  I have verified the settings.  I can access my iCloud account online but can't send or receive e-mail via the mail account.

Text limits to the "Question" link prevents a full explanation:
This is a long-time problem.  I have tried to resolve it with Apple but their "Customer Support" is merely a name.
I can go online and access my e-mail but when I try to send or receive e-mail via iCloud through my internet server (Google fiber now but the same situation existed with my prior service), I receive "There may be a problem with the mail server or network.  Verify the settings for 'Apple Email' and try again.
"The server returned the error:  The server 'p0-imap.mail.me.com' refused to allow a connection on port 143."
Well, I have verified the setting and tried again and again and …
Well, you get the idea …

Enter your Incoming Mail Server, User Name, and Password using the following settings:
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
User Name: Your iCloud email address (excluding @me.com)
    Password: Your password
    Last Modified: Jun 27, 2013
Maybe you should test these things before calling people out, because these settings do function perfectly well.
iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard or lower, why bother to mention it?
The OP has an iCloud account, and that can not be opened without Lion or Mountain Lion (on a Mac), IOS5 or 6 (on an iPhone/iPad)
The document I linked to is Apples documentation for iCloud on current devices,I don't care whether you believe that you know better than they do, but it will affect the people who follow your advice as it won't work

Also, if you're not running Lion or Mountain Lion, there is no "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" prefpane.
I never said that there was, perhaps you imagined it.

  • Why  would an error pop up saying the installer is damaged. The Installer can't open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions. when trying to install java 7?

why  would an error pop up saying the installer is damaged. The Installer can’t open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions. when trying to install java 7?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Mac OS 10.7.4, installing Microsoft Office 14.2.7, error "The Installer can't open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions."

Mac OS 10.7.4, updating new version Microsoft Office 14.2.7, ERROR "The Installer can’t open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions."
The Apple Installer version is Version 5.0.1 (537).
When I check the Installer Log, I find only these two messages that I do not understand.
Jul 12 09:29:13 Bruces-MacBook-Pro Installer[423]: Install's runner tool is not properly configured as a setuid tool.
    Jul 12 09:29:13 Bruces-MacBook-Pro Installer[423]: Unable to create InstallController
I changed all the permissions for all the Microsoft Office Folder users to Read and Write.
    Restart, same error

    See:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1948155?threadID=1948155&tstart=1
I had identical Installer Log failure notices: I used Houdini to view the invisible files and per Limnos' suggestion cautiously dragged
user > library > preferences > com.apple.installer.plist out of that folder onto my desktop and double-clicked on the .pkg file again and it opened and installed properly.
My Installer now works properly on all .pkg files.

  • Server log showing problems with Mail Server

Ok, so I followed the instructions in that PDF about how to make virtual mail users in 10.5.1 since they are broken. So I did it in the WGM and the Postfix stuff as the document said. Now I get all these errors in the server log and I have no idea how to fix the problem or if what I did was even done right. Here is the error log below:

I did what you said and I don't see all those weird messages anymore, but we switched over our MX records today to our mail server in hopes that it would all work and now no one can get their mail. I can log into the mail server no problem via IMAP, but to send messages is not working. And those using POP don't seem to work at all. Even to send messages the Server is rejecting saying that my messages isn't addresed right. Which it is. I can't even send something to myself. I'm trying not to be frustrated with this thing. I'm just not sure what to do since we have a whole bunch of people needing mail and it doesn't seem to be working and I'm not a mail server expert. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problems with mail server and clients

I have set up OS X server on my iMac with 2 MacBook Pros as clients. I have set up the server to be a mail server.
    I have two problems.
    1. I can successfully send and receive emails between the server and one MacBook Pro but neither send or receive mail on the other even though the settings are identical. I get the standard dialog box 'cannot connect using Port 25'.
    2. On the MacBook Pro that will send mail I can also send mail out of the LAN but mail sent to me is bounced back to the sender.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to OS server my learning curve over the past week has been vertical!!!

You are not alone. I have started a current thread because of the same problem, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1278072&tstart=0.
Another thread ended with the poster claiming to have things working after a clean install, but I have had no such luck with any of my installations so far.
Do you have only one domain on your server, or are you hosting virtual domains also?
    /Lars

  • Problems with mail server certificates

    Hi,
i have problems accessing my mail server over ssl since I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion.
The problem is, that when i try to connect to my mail server Mail stops working (and so does Safari and Keychain access).
I tryed to add my servers certificate to Keychain manually. When i drag the certificate to Keychain it shows up in Certificates, but when i try to set 'Allways trust' the application stops responding (and after that Mail won't send or receive anything and Safari wont load anythin until i restart the Mac).
Firefox is working without problems (webmail access which uses same certificate), even when Safari and Mail stop working.
    Any idea what to do?

I found that the problematic process is "ocspd". If you force quit it, the applications continue to work.
It seams that Apple has a bug here.

  • My mac mail is now offline. The pop up says There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account or try again. Any one know how to get my mail back on?

I down loaded the new free os x yosemite today and now my mail is offline. Several pop ups that say there is no connection.
Verify the settings for account or try again.
The server returned the error: The certificate for this server is invalid.
I have not changed a thing and now I have no emails coming or going. Since it is my communication line to many of my clients, I am in need of some answers asap.
    Thank you.

I recently have been trying to find out why my email won't go online. A window pops up stating The identity of "pop.qwestoffice.net" cannot be verified. The certificate for this server is invalid. You may be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "pop.qwestoffice.net" putting information at risk. It asks to connect anyway? Anyone out there have a clue? I am losing my contacts with my clients.

  • Problems with mail server & here is a screenshot

This keeps happening and I don't know how to fix it.

I sometimes run into such problems. I don't know the nature of the problem, because my solution is to always just remove the entry for SMTP server from the server list and then add it back to make sure that it is working (or that I am entering the right information, etc).
I do think that either Mail or Keychain "loses" the password sometimes, and that is the root of the problem. It is solved just by removing the server and reentering it into the servers list; at least, that has worked for me every single time I've had the same problem.

  • Powerbook G4 Apple mail problem with exchange server?

    Hello all,
I am new to the group. I just picked up a older PowerBook G4 at a pawnshop for cheap I've got it running really well now with the exception of my email.
    I am running OS X 10.5.8
When trying to set it up with my exchange server email it does not seem to want to work with me.
    I get an ALERT
(There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "Exchange" or try again.)
I know i am online fine. Internet works, streams music etc...
    and
(The server error encountered was: The connection to the server (mail.mycompany.com) on port "X" timed out.)
    I have tried port numbers:
    465
    143
    443
    25
    993
    995
    with no success.
I have pinged my mail.mycompany.com and it is communicating fine there   10 sent  10 recieved.
I am sending emails fine, however I cannot recieve emails.
Anybody know what the problem might be?
    THANKS!

    Hi,
This might have to do with your outgoing mail server(smtp).. For example, if you use hotmail as your mail client, then your smtp would be: smtp.live.com while the incoming mail server would be: pop.live.com.
In your case, try smtp.mycompany.com or smtp.mail.mycompany.com
See if that resolves the problem.

  • Problems with Mail after upgrading to 10.5.6

I was using my mail program without problems, until I upgraded to v 10.5.6 - when I tried to 'get new mail' I received the following message:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for the account or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server on port 110 timed out.
I contacted my email provider (shaw.ca) and there are no problems with their server. So, I added another email account to check if it was the program, and I'm getting the same response with the new account I added.
Has anyone come across this issue? Any advice? Thank you!!

  • Unable to download from AppStore, updates, etc.Messages 'the installer is damaged' to 'there might be a problem with file ownership and permissions.' I am the owner and only user of a new MBP. What could be going on?

Is anyone having the same type of problems I'm having with Lion. I have a new MacBook Pro, received 7 weeks ago, preinstalled with Leopard 10.6.7. I didn't migrate anything from my old iMac, wanted a clean install from the Apple Store. While there, I asked for the upgrade to Lion 10.7, however their system was down.
I  installed it myself, wirelessly about a week later, and Apple emailed me a receipt. Now, I've had to call support directly last week when I lost Mail, Address Book, was unable to open Preview or iTunes, among other problems. Seemed fixed after a session that baffled even the store tech.  Now I am unable to download or install the recent Mac updates for Lion, from the App Store, could not install Adobe Reader, etc. Messages range from 'A network error has occured - Check your Internet connection and try again' to 'The Installer is damaged and cannot open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions.'  All fail and I'll probably have to call Apple again. I am frustrated beyond words.  Logs 'Install's runner tool is not properly configured as a setuid tool', domain errors, 'attempt to write a readonly database, and on and on. I have barely done a thing on this computer except search online for help with these problems. Safari gives me a 'You are not connected to the internet' too often. Diagnostics disagrees. I do see wi-fi problems in the forum. Disk and permissions were fine at the beginning of the earlier problems, checked first by support tech. I'm not sure if support tech even knew. I was just happy they were fixed. Anyone have these download and/or install problems after a 'clean bill of health' so to speak, only a week ago?

Let's try the following user tip with that one:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows

  • The password for the account "account name" was not changed. Your system administrator may not allow you to change your password or there was some other problem with your password. Contact your system administrator for help.

I have a user who's Active Directory password is going to expire. I had her reset her password by going to apple > system prefs > user > and clicking change password. She received the error "The password for the account "account name" was not changed. Your system administrator may not allow you to change your password or there was some other problem with your password. Contact your system administrator for help."
I had her change her password via the kpasswd command in terminal and that changed her password on the server sucessfully however the laptop has FileVault on it. Filevault is not recognizing the new password just the old password.
I have deleted the keychain which didn't resolve and now I am going to decrypt and reencrypt the drive. I'm hoping this is an isolated issue I have over 25 laptops configured like this.

I "think" the trick was unbinding and rebinding the computer account.
After unencrypting and trying to reencrypt Filevault would still not take the new password.
Rebooted the prompt to update the keychain appeared. Updated the keychain. Filevault would still not take the new password.
Unbinded and rebinded the computer account. It worked and let me add the user to filevault.
