There's an iCloud backup but how do I restore from it?

I backed-up my iPhone to iCloud and then performed a factory reset. Now I want to restore from the backup, but in iTunes it says 'Your iPhone has never been backed up to iCloud' (and the backup doesn't appear in the list) and in iCloud Backup on the iPhone there is an option to back-up again but not to restore. The timestamp at iCloud Backup is when the pre-factory-reset backup was made, and all of the backed-up data seems to be listed at iCloud Manage Storage, so it seems that the backup is there, but how do I restore from it?

Whichever you prefer, iTunes or iCloud. Should I use iTunes or iCloud to back up my iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? - Apple Support

I got a new iPad mini and It said that I didn't have anything in my iCloud backup but I had all 800 of my pictures on it. How do I get them back?

The new one must have been in inventory for a while or it would have the latest iOS.
To update it, connect it to your computer and open iTunes.  You may be prompted by iTunes that a newer version is available; if so, choose Download and Install to update it to iOS 6.1.3.
If you don't get this prompt, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, then click on the Summary tab at the top.  On the Summary tab, click Check for Update.  You should then be prompted that there is an update available and you can update your iPad.
After updating, as mentioned in the posts above, set it up as a new iPad, eject it from iTunes and disconnect it from your computer, then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go back through the setup screens on the iPad and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  You should now be able to choose your backup to restore from.  Be sure your iPad is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.

hmm thats kinda odd! how he managed to do that i dont know I thought the backups were locked per phone or phonenubmers serial.  Anyhow IF you have no backup at all then you have lost everything.  There is software out there that can recover data on the phone that was deleted..  I would personally click restore on Itunes and restart over.  You cant get back what you lost that easy and software that does recover deleted data may not allways work 100% and costs money for the software..
    Lesson learned huh..

  • HT1766 I usually have iCloud backup but I got a notification that my phone has not backed up for the last two weeks, and It wont let me do it manually. Why did it all of a sudden stop backing up?

I usually have iCloud backup but I got a notification that my phone has not backed up for the last two weeks, and It wont let me do it manually. There is also still enough storage space.  Why did it all of a sudden stop backing up?

The HT1766 article you attached lists the prerequisites for an iCloud backup:
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your device using iOS 5 or later. After you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in Settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage, it will run on a daily basis as long as your device is:
Connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi
    Connected to a power source
    Screen locked
You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.

    Hey!
I have tried holding down the home and power button countless of times. It doesnt respond at all. Plug my phone to a charger and hold down the power button and my phone switched on. But it said Activation Required and said connect to Itunes. As e screen remains on the connect to Itunes screen, I disconnect the charger from my phone and my phone went dead instantly. My battery is full btw. Tried connecting to Itunes through my Macbook Pro but iTunes doesnt detect my device and the apple logo flashes for about a few seconds on my phone and then disappear and then came back on again. My Iphone has been connected to my laptop for about 30 mins and the apple logo has been coming on and off for 30 minutes now and Itunes has not detect my device yet.
    SIGHHH.

iPod won't Sync to computer, says 74gb out of 80gb are used -but there's nothing on ipod. How do I restore? Is anyone else familiar with this problem? It had over 25 movies, thousands of songs & hundreds of pictures, and it seems like they're still on there, because 74gb are used out of the 80 but when I turn the ipod on it appears to be at factory, fresh out of the box settings and my computer wont recognise it at all...

For the following suggestion, when you connect the iPod to the PC, and iTunes open up, please close it, before you fix the drive.
Your iPod hardisk filesystem is corrupted, and maybe repaired by using command line, under DOS window.
    chkdsk drive: /F
where drive: is the iPod ID D: or E:
You can also try clicking the IPod properties, and run error checking in GUI, tick  "fix all error."
If you have access to a Mac, you can use DiskUtility, and run FirstAid to repair the iPod.
    Good Luck!
BTW, this problem arise because, iPod did not complete, closing, the Sync process, due to timeout, for Windows systems, I think it is maybe caused by Antivirus, or some other plugins, trying to make windows 7 look like Mac OS X.

  • HT1414 How do I restore from an earlier icloud backup that is not showing up for my ipad?

How do I restore from an earlier icloud backup that is not showing up for my ipad?

You can't.  Usually you have only the most recent backup to choose from (I do).  Some users has said they get 3 to choose from (this is the max as stated in Apple literature).  You can't go back further than that.
The usual advice is that all photos should be synced to a computer (too many users have lost some/all their photos doing a restore - don't trust them solely to icloud).  If you've been doing that, you can find them on your computer.

Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Some types of content aren’t downloaded automatically in all countries, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store. The new machine has Mavericks which is fine. And I will leave it as is. I don’t want anything from my old machine other than 2 apps that I will need on the new one. I want to be able to install those apps that I bought from the App Store onto my new computer. I assume Apple doesn’t want me to have the apps installed on 2 machines at the same time so I wonder if just uninstalling them from my old machine will release them for re-install on the new one.

I got a new iphone 6.  When I restore my phone from my icloud backup my most recent photos and messages not restored from icloud backup.  How do I get the most recent backup onto my new phone?

    Hello, Anita.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are wanting to restore your new iPhone 6 from an iPhone 5 backup.  This sounds like the iOS version of your old iPhone 5 may be newer than what was installed on your iPhone 6.  Try going through the steps in the article below.
iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
I would also check to see the backup dates in iTunes and if the  backup is located on iCloud instead of iTunes.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes
