I just wanted to say that I dont think there is anything wrong with copying code. You can learn so much from studying the completed puzzle enabling you to develop you conceptual foot hold in the language your learning and show you techniques in practice rather than in some vague text book abstraction that reveals no practical application that would help a beginner see it's value as a problem solving technique. Like studying a composition of Mozart or Chopin. There is so much to learn from seeing the completed formula and all the modularized mechanics that make up its functionality. I think that people who get hung up on revealing code are hiding their tricks. However, I do realize that some code must be private to serve its marketing agenda. Shool problems though? Come on. Who says you don't learn by looking at the answer? If that were the case, why ever look in a dictionary or any other resource for knowledge. Code is to be shared when it comes to learning. Anything else is just holding out for the sake of a selfish hording of knowledge. There's no reason for secrets.

Reasons for Posting Free Period in LO Cockpit Data Extraction

Dear Experts,
I am quite new to the concept of LO Cockpit, but I have learnt that we need to stop posting transaction in R/3 during the process of filling up the set up table. I really want the reasons for this, so I can convince my customers.
1) May anyone give me the exact reasons by providing some example cases please?
Some sourcess mentioned that if we don't stop posting documents, there may be duplicated records (in Set Up table and in Delta Queue table). Is this true?
2) May anyone provide me the step of extracting LO Cockpit data please? When the R/3 system should be freezed? When it should be unfreezed? Why do we have to use initialization without data transfer? Please give me the steps in details.

If the users don't stop posting, and at the same time if you are filling up the setup tables, you'll lose the data. Ex if you are filling up setup table for Sales order and if at the same time the user is changing it, its going to take the earlier version or not pick the sales order at all, and thus the changes are lost.
You usually freeze the R3 system when you are ready to fill up the setup tables. Users are locked out of the system so no transaction posting takes place and all batch jobs that update the tables are suspended.
You usually do an init without data transfer so as not to hold up the system as the setup tables might have a lot of records. This reduces the R3 system downtime.

Can I edit the system file Manifest.XML in Word for Windows? (there's a reason for doing this)

I renamed a file directory containing several PDFs. Consequently, Adobe Digital Editions says these files are missing when I try to open them and look at notes I made. There seems to be an obvious solution, but I'm unfamiliar with XML and don't want to screw things up. The file locations and a lot of other information for Digital Editions is in an XML file called Manifest. If I can edit the XML file to show the correct directory, I expect I'd be able to see these files and recover my notes. I'm unsure what Word for Windows may do (e.g., add or delete characters) when I edit and save the new Manifest. That might corrupt the Manifest and be extremely counterproductive.
Is editing the file locations in Word for Windows safe, so long as Digital Editions isn't open when I do my editing?

I can confirm that Notepad++ can happily edit manifest.xml files, but as Jim_Lester says, make a backup (especially if you are not used to XML).
You may well find that if you Open the .epub files from their new location explicitly from ADE (ctrl-O) that you will both be able to read documents and see the notes.
I can't vouch for that; but if it works I'd recommend it over editing the manifest file.

Would there be any reason for logs to show up in the activity terminal while a computer is not in use?

I have an activity log on my mac from Dec. 7th, at 12:48pm-12:49pm...no one was anywhere near the mac at the time, as we were all downstairs having tea with family. Is it possible for the log to happen without anyone accessing the computer? it was the admin account only...the other two accounts show nothing on the log. The other thing of concern, is that this popped up with it: device_generate_desktop_screenshot.
Is something taking screenshots of my mac? I would paste the full code, but I freaked myself out already, so the mac is off for the night and the wifi is turned off on the mac, as well. Last thing, is that my fully charged mac was so dead it wouldn't boot on Sunday evening, and I hadn't touched it since Friday...is that related?

What should the internet setting be on the time capsule and airport expresses.
The setting on the Time Capsule will depend on the type of modem that you have connected. It sounds like the "Share a public IP address" would be correct for the Time Capsule. Everything else must be in "Bridge Mode"
Each of the AirPort Express devices must be configured to "Create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, security setting and password as the Time Capsule network. Set the Channels as "Automatic" and double check as the last configuration step to make sure that they are set for Bridge Mode.
Then restart the entire network as outlined above and you are in business.
The Express devices should definitely show up in AirPort Utility when you have everything set up.

Can't access iTunes, but there's no reason for it

I've been having trouble with the iTunes store for a few weeks now. I gave the problem time to "fix itself" in case it was caused by maintenance to the store, but I'm pretty sure that "maintenance" would not last this long, so I've decided to ask other iTunes users about it.
It seems that accessing the store is a common issue, so I followed all of the recommended steps to make sure that everything was in order before posting this. I ran diagnostics in iTunes and was told that a secure connection was established to the store and there were no other connection issues. I checked to see if the iTunes and iTunesHelper processes were allowed on my computer, and they were. None of my anti-virus or anti-spyware programs (avast!, Ad-Aware and SpyBot: Search and Destroy) are blocking iTunes. My computer is authorized to access the store, and I have the latest version of iTunes. In other words, nothing should be causing iTunes service to shift in and out on my computer (I can occasionally access the store, but most of the time I do not even get a proper "loading" bar - just the striped bar that reads "Accessing iTunes Store"). The strangest part is that the store worked perfectly on my computer until a few weeks ago.
If I have done all of this and can still not access the store properly, there must be something that I'm missing, so I would really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get this problem fixed and keep enjoying iTunes.
(If it is of interest, I do not have administrator rights on my computer.)

I have been having the same problem for the past few weeks as well. I can usually get to the main itunes page but then it gets stuck and eventually times out trying to get to other parts of the site.

I am not allowed to download LR, is there any particularly reason for this? - I cannot add it to the CC app nor can i download it... ?

When trying to DL light room CC to my app, the DL simply goes idle. It never turns up in the app centre and when searching for it, there is no results either... what to do, what to do? :-)

Would there be any reason for a hotspot created in InDesign to change size when exported as a SWF?

I've got a 280-page InDesign (CS5) document with invisible buttons/ hotspots throughout which I want to export as a SWF.
Once exported, the buttons/ hotspots appear to be sized/ positioned correctly on the first dozen or so pages. Afterwards, the hotspots are consistently sized and positioned incorrectly over the buttons; so that if you were to try and click on the button, you wouldn't actually be clicking on the hotspot at all.
Things I've tried so far:
Exporting the pages in smaller batches, rather than as a single 280-page file
Export the SWF at different sizes
Checking that the hotspost don't have any blank areas inside their boxes (in the same way you can move an image inside a picture box and have blank areas)
I've hit a wall with this – any help/ suggestions you're able to offer would be very much appreciated.

Would like to know, why Microsoft has put more emphasis on Client OM and REST API in SP 2013 portal solutions dev.
Is there any prticular reason for this.If we develop our solutions in Server Object Model any performance/scalability related issues would be appearing in the near future , once i "Go Live" of my portal ?
Any indications given by MS saying, "we wont allow ISV/vendors/ to build server object model based solutions in the near future".

The real question might be "how long will there be an on premise version of SharePoint?" or "will we move our SharePoint to the cloud in the future?" There is an obvious push to the cloud for SharePoint. While all indications point to at least one more on
premise version of SharePoint, as a best practice any code you develop should run in both environments, and that will limit you to the new app model.
As far as performance, traditional server side code runs on the web front end servers. Any poorly performing code would have a negative impact on the servers and users. Therefore, performance/scalability is up to the skills of the developer. The primary
change around the app model is to move all custom code off of the web front ends and onto the client or other servers (via web services). Using the app model you can scale the app servers as needed separately from the "SharePoint" servers. (and of course,
your code would might still work if your SharePoint environment later moves to the cloud.)
