There's recovered folder in Aperture

Hi
In a folder called recovered folder there are no photos can I deleat it? And just one more thing that is nothing to do with aperture but why do people say hold the option key down when they mean alt?

Hi George,
In a folder called recovered folder there are no photos can I deleat it?
Is it a folder or a project? Usually you should sea a recovered "project". If all projects inside that folder are truely empty and do not contain any invisible images (rejected, hidden by filters), then go ahead and delete it. But I'd check all searchfields, if they are cleared, before you do that.
And just one more thing that is nothing to do with aperture but why do people say hold the option key down when they mean alt?
In all Mac help texts the ⌥-key is called officially the "Option" key, only on many keyboards that key will be labeled "alt ⌥" for "alternate graphics".  My keyboard also shows the "alt" label, but many others show "opt".

  • How to reconnect master files in recovered folder to Aperture

Aperture 3 crashed and somehow it spit out all its master files and dumped them in a directory called 'Pictures Recovered Photos'. All files in Aperture show the 'Master Not Found' badge (arrow with yellow exclamation point triangle). How do I tell Aperture that the master file it's looking for sits in the 'Pictures Recovered Photos' folder?
I tried the 'Locate Referenced Files' command but that obviously doesn't work because the pictures are not referenced. The master files were imported before something went wrong.
To make matters worse, the 'Pictures Recovered Photos' folder contains about 56k files, while I only have about 13k masters. Upon further inspection, I noticed that most masters had several copies of themselves:
e.g. here are all the files matching picture DSC00131 in the 'Pictures Recovered Photos' folder:
    DSC00131.JPG
    DSC00131.JPG.jpg
    DSC00131.JPG_2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_2.jpg

    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face1_2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face2.jpg
    thumb_DSC00131.JPG_face2_2.jpg
Any suggestions on how to get out of this mess?

First wanted to see if someone had seen this situation before
The subject of Aperture completely aside, it is not uncommon for files to sprout in unexpected places when there are disk problems. If you have not already done so you should use Disk Utility to Verify the disk(s) where your masters and Aperture app and library reside before you attempt to do anything else. While you are in Disk Utility check the S.M.A.R.T status as well. If you try to fix things within Aperture you could make things worse if your disks aren't in tip-top shape.
I'm new to Aperture so I will leave advice on how to relocate your masters to experienced users.

  • Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the ST card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the SD card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Check your Import settings in the Import Panel, i.e. all that might exclude the image type you want to import:
If you did not exclude any file types, and still Aperture will not import, remove your ImageCapture preferences fro your user library:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something .plist  remove them too.
    then try again.
And if that still does not help, remove the Aperture preferences as well:
    ~/Library/Preferences/aperture.plist

P.S. in MacOS Lion and later the user library ~/Library is hidden by default.
You can reveal it also  from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences".

  • Add all files of one folder to aperture by running a script

    HI,
    i have a question:
I will make my Aperture Tethered more easy (with my Canon eos 30D) i have coded a script / folder action to do this but: this folder action does not import all pictures (wy ever, i think that the files coming in to fast were not recognized).
Now i will code a script which will include all files of a folder to aperture when it is run.
i will give it a try, and the import does function, but, i don't know how i can tell the script which files it should import (with a folder action its easy, with this line:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
but how to do this without the "on adding folder items" cause that does not happen in the case i will use it.
    i'm looking forward to anthers:D
    Best Regards
    Christoph

yes i tryed this application, and there was the same problem as with my one (i have programmed my based on this application)
but both had the same problem they open on imageadd, but if i take more images in seconds (i think the script is still running => it can't recognize new images) it does not recognize the newly taken images.
and i hope some script that imports all images in the folder will solve the problem.
the more ore less only problem is to tell the application which images to import (like: on run import ALL files)

  • Is there any way to prevent Aperture from Auto Cropping an image?

Is there any way to prevent Aperture from auto cropping an image? I use the "Do Not Crop" aspect ratio often and Aperture constantly picks cropping aspects for me, which is driving me crazy. Can I set "Do Not Crop" as the ratio I want on a more permanent basis anyhow? Thanks for the help.
    Chris

This is a current bug.  Please report it via "Aperture→Send Aperture Feedback".
Just to clarify, the problem is not auto-cropping, the problem is the the crop tool aspect ratio is arbitrarily set (in my case, always to something close to the current crop aspect ratio).  You can reset it (on a per-crop basis) to "Do not constrain".
    It is very bothersome.
You might try trashing your prefs.  Details on the Trouble-shooting page.  I have had the bug return more than once.

  • Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing?

Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing? I recently had a crash of CS5 Bridge. It seems to have caused a problem with Aperture. So, I reinstalled both CS5 and Aperture. Before installing CS5 I uploaded NEF (Nikon RAW) files to Aperture. Now I have reinstalled CS5 I want to use it to edit the same photos from Aperture, as I know more about editing in CS5 than Aperture. I tried to export to CS5 but, Aperture would not give me  that option. At least I could not find it.

You can set an external editor in the "Aperture Preferences -> Export " settings.
    Just set this to CS5.
The resullt of your external edit will create a new version of your image.

  • Hidden "Recovered Folder" in iPhoto Library

    After installing
    Mac OS X 10.8
    iTunes 10.7
    iOS 6
    iPhoto 9.4
I could watch hidden albums/folders thru iTunes:
    lastNMonthsAlbum
    Recovered Folder
    Recovered Folder (1)
These forders are not visible in iPhoto.
    How to remove them ?
    Printscreen is attached.

No, what TD asked is not the same as the problem you're having.
You're having a problem with iPhoto.  TD is saying your screenshot did not display in your post.  Are you using the camera icon in the toolbar above the reply window to add your screenshot?
I'm just guessing here but If you're seeing those items in iTunes then just ignore them as you can't make any changes to the contents of an iPhoto Library package without damaging the library.  So just ignore them and go on your way.

  • I do not have a custom ringtone folder in my iphone 5.  I have gone to settings ringtones and there is no folder. In iTunes I have created the file and changed to M4r.  The song is less than 20 seconds.  I have synced my iPhone with iTunes but no folder.

How do I make a folder in my Iphone 5 for custom ringtones?
I have made it a m4r file that is less than 30 sec. Synced phone with the latest version of iTunes.  They show up in itunes as custom ringtones but there is no folder on my iPhone 5. Thanks!!!

Yes, it has to be smaller than 35 seconds.
    Enjoy your ringtone.

  • Is there a way to get Aperture to remember where you left off?

I find it a pain that even when switching between projects, Aperture always jumps back to the first image in a project.
Is there a way to get Aperture to remember where you left off? (plist setting?)

Do you create a new tab when you open a new project or album? Hold down the Cmnd key as you click on a project or album, you get a new tab in the browser. Aperture remembers where you were in each tab.

  • Will there be an update to Aperture 4?

Will there be an update to Aperture 4?
Or better said: will ever there be a major update to Apple Aperture?

IMHO - the best plan is to have backups of the original files (music, photos, documents) so any changes a company might make won't affect one too much.
There are alternatives if Apple decides to change directions, so not a huge issue if you keep the originals safe and backup exported finals for keepsakes.
Still on the Windows platform at work and have seen many programs come and go over the years.
Aperture is a great idea and will hopefully keep moving forward.

  • I like the "whites" and "blacks" sliders in lightroom with the option key pressed- is there a corresponding slider in aperture? thank you

i like the "whites" and "blacks" sliders in lightroom with the option key pressed- is there a corresponding slider in aperture? thank you

There's no exact analogue to the "whites" slider in Aperture.  But you could do it with curves if you wanted.  You can set the white point using the curves tool as well.

  • How to copy and paste a photo in another folder using Aperture?

How to copy and paste a photo in another folder using Aperture?

What do you want to achieve? Do you really want to create a copy of an image, and thus create a second copy of the master image file? You will waste disk space this way.
Usually you would create new versions of an image, if you want versions with different adjustments. Versions do not require much additional disk space. But all versions of an  image have to be in the same project. To create a new version: Main menu bar -> Photos -> Duplicate Version
To create a copy of an image in another project (and to waste the space ) drag the image to another project while holding down the option key. This will create a copy in the other project.
Sofar nobody here could come up with a good reason why one would want to create a copy. I am curious what in your workflow requires you to do that. Would you mind to tell us?

  • When I open iPhoto it tells me there are recovered photos

When I open iPhoto it tells me there are recovered photos & do I want to save them. When I click no it saves them anyway as Recovered Photos in Albums. When I open these files they are blank. This is very annoying as I have to go to Albums & delete these files.

The "recovered" album contains links to "lost&found" photo files in your iPhoto Library. Sometimes iPhoto will find orphaned photos in the iPhoto Library, that are not referenced by any photo in your events.  As a precaution they will be collected in the "recovered" album. Before you try to delete them, I would wait a bit. You may discover, that some photo has lost the connection to the original image file, and then you can retrieve it from the "recovered" album. But sometimes the recovered items are just leftovers, when there was trouble to empty the trash for example, or when iPhoto was "force-quit" and could not complete a file operation.
Since your "recovered" photos are blank and empty, they are useless as a replacement for missing photos, but there are very useful as an inventory of photos that may have been lost and need to be checked, if they are o.k. Occasionally I discovered that indeed a photo was missing, by carefully looking at the recovered items. Then I knew, what I had to restore from my TimeMachine backup.

  • Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?

Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?Regards.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.
