There was a RAISE without a handler. - Adobe Reader 9 Mac PPC 10.4.11

Hi, just recently everyone has been getting this error at my place of work. After searching around this seems to be a pretty rare problem with not many solutions. Everyone is running Adobe Reader 9 and is accessing these files from a share on a server. The odd thing is if I access the server and copy the pdf from the server to a mac it works fine when its on the actual machine, but opening it from the share gives this error "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit."
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure, but I got the same error on my macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Acrobat 9.2 (CS4). I never had any problems before until I tried to install the suggested update to version 9.3.0 with Adobe Updater. The Update didnt finish the installation and since then I have this error message.
I must say that I lately updated/installed the free utility "PDF Browser Plugin v.2.2.3" from Schubert IT which brings full Acrobat functionality to Safari. Acrobat 9.2. and PDF Browser Plugin were running without any problem before I tried to run the update. (I am not sure if the PDF Browser Plugin was running on my MacBook Pro System before - but I didn't experience any problems with the Plugin and Acrobat Pro on several other Macs at work)
But now I am not sure if the Browser Plugin has brought up the Updater to fail - especially because it is just a Plugin for browsers located /library/Internet Plug-ins)
I now try to fix this issue and let you know if I was successfull. I was just thinking, if you maybe also have this plugin installed. It runs in the background and is normaly not buggy, and that why most users don't even recognize wheter its installed or not...

  • Every time I download a PDF I get a message that says There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now close. What does this mean?

I work on a Power Mac G5 running OSX 10.5.8.
We recently had to upgrade Java.
Now every time I download a PDF I get the message "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now close."
I downloads the PDF OK, but then Safari closes and I have to start it back up to get to my email.
What is the message telling me? It did not do this before we upgraded Java.

I'm having the same issue. Again, unfortunately. And of course you will find through various searches that it is a reoccurring issue, one that Adobe seems to have failed to acknowledge.
You can delete your preference files. Same thing. RAISE blah blah crash.
You can even go and do a restore from an uncorrupted backup from over 4 months ago, and yet it still doesn't solve the problem, thus there is a compatibility issue.
The program is battling with another program (of which there really is no telling) and therefore crashing the moment you open it. The software itself is clean and uncorrupted, yet somewhere deep within OSX there is a problem that won't allow the software to open.
The only temporary solution i've found to solve the problem is a clean adobe install. Just delete and uninstall all and any traces of Adobe Acrobat, then reinstall to find a working adobe product. For a small while, at least.
I've never tried creating a new account, but from what others say it works. Not worth my time though.
If anyone was wondering I have zero third party plugins. Its straight from Adobe CS4. Pro version.
Someone above mentioned using the drop down menu in acrobat to reset the software. I can't even do that! The "RAISE" window pops up before that actual software! Its ridiculous!
Its really quite peeving to know that this issue has been around for years and Adobe seems to just ignore it. I know I don't want to pay for a company that fails to meet their customers needs. This is your problem Adobe, not ours to deal with. Fix It.

  • There was a raise without a handler

I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.3.1 on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.7. Every time I click the Comments menu or the Help menu, I get this error: "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit." Despite my best efforts to find a solution online, I'm coming up empty. Any ideas?

This seems most often to be related to corrupted cache or preference files.
Here are a couple previous threads which discuss the problem:

  • There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit/

Can someone help me figure this out, I can open Acrobat and run it for about 5 seconds, then this message pops up "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit." and Acrobat Pro closes.
I am running Mac OSX 10.5.8 and Acrobat Pro 9.3.3.  I have tried going back to a previous version of Acrobat but I get the same error.  I am using Firefox, someone suggested it is a Safari thing, but I have never used Safari, not sure why it would be associated anyway, but trying to give as much info as I can.
    Help please?

  • RAISE without a handler ... ??

The person in front of me pushed their seat back and crushed the hard drive of my laptop. I had it replaced and restored it with time machine, but now Adobe Acrobat delivers the following message, and then quits: "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit."

I take it you mean just use the installer disk, and one of the menu options is to repair Acrobat? I'll look for it now.

  • Raise without a handler error

Running Adobe Acrobat 8.12 Professional. Whenever I attempt to use the text edit tools or the redact tools, I receive an error message stating that "There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit." The only posts I've seen on this issue involve the program 'Pitstop," which is is not on my computer. I've uninstalled, repaired permissions, and re-installed, with no success. It's running on a 15" MacBookPro running Leopard. Thank you.

    you're in the wrong forum.

  • HELP!! Raise without a handler error! Reader 9, Mac WTF!??

Yikes! I've just finished weeks of work on my project, using Acrobat Pro 9, just tested it in Reader 9 (Mac), and it crashes on page 5 with this error:
There was a RAISE without a handler. The application will now exit.
The page that brings this up, and all similar pages that I've tested (several out of 50+), includes buttons, links, hidden fields, and a .swf file. All work perfectly in Acrobat, and earlier tests have worked fine in Reader, and when opened from online in Safari.
Now, on the eve of the project deadline (of course), I can't get any of my versions past this error, including the local files and an uploaded sample viewed in Safari (3.1.2).
I googled the error and find nothing recent except an unresolved thread here, from 2007, that mentions Pitstop; I don't have, and have NEVER had, Pitstop.
    PRAYING somebody has some clue
    Thanks!

Try downloading and installing AppleJack instead, which only works in single user Mode (Cloverleaf-Apple key) after a restart. Follow all steps in order. Two items 3 and 4 you do for system the you be asked if you want to check individual user in those case you type
Y and hit return/enter. Then you type the user directory and its run again. That way you clean caches files for system and user. Then preference files that are bad. the last is to dump memory cache files that are written to Hard drive to speed up Code access.

When I try to install Itunes, I get this error: (translated from Norwegian) There was a network error while trying to read from the file: C: \ windows \ installer \ iTunes.msi I have tried many times to reinstall, but nothing helps, please help me.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Adobe Reader Mac 9 can't save filled-in forms?

It appears that Adobe Reader Mac version 9.0.0 can no longer save filled-in forms. Using Reader Mac 8, I could save my last year's IRS Form 1040 PDF with all the fields filled in. Now, when I open the 2007 IRS 1040 PDF downloaded from their website today, I get a message:
"This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer enabled in this Reader version."
I get the same message when I open my 1040 PDF that I saved with fields filled in earlier this year with Reader Mac 8. That PDF still contains my filled-in values, but I can't save any changes.
Has Adobe disabled saving filled-in forms in Reader Mac 9? If so, was it by accident or on purpose? If on purpose, why?

  • "There was an error opening this document" Adobe PostScript Driver creates corrupt PDF's.

    Hello,
Just looking for a point in the right direction or some answers to a problem that has been plaguing a few of our users.
We use Adobe reader X and Adobe Post Script driver as a means to print a document as a PDF.
However, a few of our users are experiencing the problem where as the every so often a PDF created comes up with the "There was an error opening this document.  The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Message. these documents always vary in size but average around 20 - 30 kb, These seem to be complete anomolies and are corrupted from the off. The only solution we have found for this is a complete rebuild. But we have no idea what is causing this, as we are using the latest version of Adobe Reader. Also, a document that will print corrupted on one go, will print fine on the next.
    Thanks.

    Hi Lori,
Thanks for your reply currently all users access these PDF's through the standalone reader and users on the most up to date version of Adobe Reader X are not using protected mode as we have had it turned off for a while to fix other problems.
    Thanks

  • CS6 "There was an error writing metadata" message PC and Mac

I have seen this in the forums but looks like no one has an answer yet. Adobe chat support was totally not helpful.
I am getting an error message when trying to apply keywords to some images in Bridge. The error is very non-specific, all it says is "There was an error writing metadata to "filename.ext"".  This happens when trying to apply keywords to a batch or single images.  If not all images in the batch are error-prone, keywords are applied to those images and I get the error message for each image that had a problem.
My version is CS6 5.0.2.4 x32, but my co-worker downloaded a free trial today for her PC and is having the same problem.  Another co-worker downloaded to his Mac and has the same issue. I am on a windows machine.
Sometimes one co-worker get the error message on an image, and I am able to tag thje image without error.  Other times, none of us are able to tag the image.  The images were not made by the same camera and come from different sources.
We are all administrators on our computer and have tried opening Bridge with "run as administrator".  We still get the error.
The images are on our local machine, not a shared network drive.  Some of the images did live on a shared network drive at one point, but not all.  We can't seem to find a pattern between the files this is happening with.

That sounds like a problem with your machine, perhaps not enough Ram, a hard drive going south, a permissions issue, etc.

machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
