There was an error in the app store

I have an Iphone from which I can purchase items from the app store using my account, however I got myself a MacBook Pro and more recently an IMac and on both machines I am unable to buy apps. I can get free apps but unable to buy any which have a cost. I have not got a credit card registered and instead prefer to use Itunes/App top up cards.
I am faced with the following when I attempt to purchase an app on either the MacBook or IMac;
We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)
I click OK and the following message appears
Security information required - To help ensure the security of your Apple ID we require additional information. Giving me options to cancel or continue.
Upon selecting continue I am prompted to sign into my Apple ID which I do and am presented with 'Manage your security questions' and option to chaneg my account details.
I have contcated apple by email and telephone, they have told me there is no problem with my account however the issue hasn't been resolved therefore I'd be grateful for any others who have experienced this or similar to give any advice you may have.
Thank you in advance

Try here >  Mac App Store: "An unknown error occurred (100)" when purchasing
Other suggestions ...
-  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
-  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
-  Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.
For downloading apps, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If your Macs are running v10.8 Mountain Lion...
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Click the lock icon to make changes. You may be prompted for your admin password.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
Click the lock icon to prevent further changes
Then try purchasing an app.

I've been trying to install recent updates for numbers, pages, and keynote, I get a message that says "There was an error in the App store. Please try again later." (20).  I tried several times over the last few days and continue to get the same error  message.

Thank you Catherine & MrToaster - Yes - I've just updated to my new credit card. All the details were correct, inc authorisation code but App Store kept prompting me to update iMovie then, not allowing me to (There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20)).
Your advice worked - I logged out and in again.
The problem is that I'll definitely have forgotten your tip when my card next expires!

That cryptic error message might mean that the payment information in your account is invalid. Check with your credit-card issuer to see whether a charge was denied. If not, see below.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

I am having a similar problem. I get one of two errors: "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (null)" OR "We could not complete your purchase INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE".
I am having this trouble on a brand new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.1. My firewall is off and no virus software is installed.
I can download and update apps on a different computer using OS X 10.6.8 just fine.
    Any other recommendations?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Just got a new iMac  27inch 3.4ghz and set it up today. Switching from my old G5 2005, Protools HD setup to a Logic Pro environment.
I have had macs for more then a decade and the same apple ID for about as long. When trying to purchase Logic Pro 9 on the Apple App Store Application, the store won't let me purchase Logic Pro. Neither on the iMac I just bought, nor my older Mac Book Pro for 2007.  I keep getting this same error code dialog box. .
"We could not complete your request  There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)",
I hit okay and then get this. . .
Please contact iTunes support to complete this transaction.
I have already done as reccommended and chatted with a tech support person live until we got cut off. I also emailed through the iTunes Support site and am waiting to hear back, just wondering what you all are thinking.
I already tried going into iTunes and was able to authorize my computer with my apple ID, havn't tried song purchase yet but will.
I am running the latest of everything, including iTunes f6 and App Store 1.1.2 . . . I am only running OS 10.7.3 and have not updated to 10.7.4 as I have heard there have been problems with logic pro on this version.
    Thanks!

There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)

I had this same issue last week when I started experiencing a similar issue/error.  For me, I got it when I tried to "Update All" in the App Store.  It turned out to be a rouge app that was installed (I assume via malware) via another person's account.
Click the "Update" button (single app only) for each app -- pay specical attention to any apps that you don't remember installing yourself.  In my case, I was eventually prompted to provide a login for UbikReader (PDF Reader), which I had never installed.
    Hope this helps!

    I FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Follow the following steps
    1.Open up terminal
    2. Type mdfind kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
    3. It will show every app on your computer regested to a apple id
    4. Open up the Mac app store and go to purchases
    5. Match up the items in the terminal list to the items in the purchases list.
    6. Delete the items that apear in the terminal list that are not on your purchases
    7. Empty the trash and restart your computer
    8. Open the app store and it should be gone
Its because it is a third party app
It means that you downloaded a aplication of piratebay or something and it has some link to a compleatly different app.
