There was an error updating .mac

I am making a website in iWeb (latest version) for my son's nursery school and I am trying to publish it to our .mac account - but keep getting the error "there was an error updating to .mac"
I did not get this error last week....
It seems my pages are updating fine - but it prevents me from using the function where I just update my changes - so this is extremely annoying as this is one of the reasons to have a .mac account in the first place (apart from comments of course).
I have enough diskspace (plenty) on my .mac account and cant see any other problems with my site.
Very grateful for help with this! Would love to have the site up and running for when school is back!

Gary....
"The console read that it failed to download some PLIST file or something" THIS is the message we were looking for.
Sorry to hear you're still having trouble. This plist file has been a problem for some people uploading to .Mac.
Is it this same file every time?
anyway.... follow this path.
hard disk/users/username/library/application support/iWeb/Domain
open this file by holding down the control key and clicking on it once. Select SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS... you'll be looking for a file that reads something like
"assets.yourusername.plist" yourusername is the name you set up as an account in iWeb.
delete this file close the window and try again. If you've cleaned all of the names up for the jpg files it should publish.
I've found in my own publishing times that when I'm publishing on the G4 instead of the intel macs it crashes more often and seems to be bandwidth needy. The G4's dont seem to play as well with iWeb as the G5's and the intel iMacs. So I publish late at night and don't use the computer for anything else when I do. In system preferences I also turn off the screen saver, and both sliders in the energy saver in system preferences also.
Crossing fingers!

  • Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac

    Hello,
This is the first time I have had any problems with iWeb when trying to publish a site. After the site and pages are created, I keep getting the error:
"Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac".
    - I have iWeb 1.1.2
    - I am not over quota.
    - My account is not expired.
    - I've tried multiple times over a 1.5h period.
    - I've tried closing/restarting iWeb, rebooting my machine, and manually deleting all files in my .Mac/Web/iWeb folder in case any got corrupted somehow.
    - I've emailed tech support about this too.
Hopefully this is just a server issue on Apple's side and is temporary. Anybody experience problems around today?
    Cheers.

Okay I am very relieved to hear that people out there are experiencing what seems to be the exact same issue (and that I don't have to suffer through Apple support). I as well, after experiecing this issue, was totally unable to login to my website (password kept getting rejected).
As of right now - 12h after first experiencing this issue - I still cannot publish to iWeb.
When trying what was suggested earlier, a lowercase login, I received a new and more interesting error message:
Publish Error: An error occurred while publishing file “navbarseparator3.png.” Try choosing File > Publish All.
I then tried to "Publish All" and viola - it worked! What is fascinating to me is that I have used the same login/password for a year now with no problems and how a single capital letter in a login can cause so much grief. Hmm. Anyways, thank you Mr. Apnewbie for your suggestion.
I think .Mac is a superb service - however for the price, there are still some very fundamental kinks that it seems they didn't throughouly test out at Apple before charging people/releasing their software. Mainly, all the kinks related to multiple passwords with multiple web sites (and obviously logins!).

I'm marking this as "solved" (though why we all mysteriously had the same odd experience at the same time is yet unresolved. The solution suggested above has worked for me. Please try and comment here if it works for you too. I hope it does.

  • "There was an error updating your software"

    Hello,
I have tried to reload the OS on my Z10 however Blackberry Link (on Windows) insists on updating the OS. Upon clicking update, it tells me that some components of the Link software need to be updated in order to update the operating system but then I get the following error message: "An error has occurred while downloading the Blackberry Desktop Software. Please try again." I am not sure how to solve this since I downloaded the most up to date version of Blackberry link straight from Blackberry's website.

Follow this How to perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Software or BlackBerry Link
And then try to reinstall Link. Not Blend.

    Hello almauck,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to update Pages on my iMac.
I recommend signing out of the App Store and signing back in and then trying the update again:
    Sign out
    Choose Store > Sign Out.
Sign in using an Apple ID
Choose Store > Sign In, or click Sign In in the Quick Links section. The Quick Links section is located in the right part of the window shown when you click Featured, Top Charts, or Categories in the toolbar.
Enter your Apple ID and password, and then click Sign In.

  • I cannot to download from the mac app store (There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20))

I cannot to download from the mac app store (There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20))
I traied to remove cookies and still don't working.

Regretably, none of the above solutions has resolved this problem for me.
Whenever I try to perform updates (in my case, Xcode and iPhoto both want to update), I receive the following error:
    An error occurred during purchase.
(of course, I am not trying to purchase anything, it is a free update)
If I press Retry, the above repeats until I press Cancel, then I see:
We could not complete your request.
There was an error in the App Store.  Please try again later.  (20)
I have been "trying again later" for three weeks now, with no resolution in sight.

    Ok..
Installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo may help this.
Restart your Mac after installing the combo then try downloading Lion.
It's ok to install the combo even though you are already running v10.6.8
BEFORE you do this make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available spare
From here > Apple - OS X Lion - Technical specifications
Read this article before upgrading to Lion > Lion upgrade questions: Apple Support Communities
