There was an initialiation error

Question

I just bought a new LG GE20 20x DVD +- R Write Speed External Super Multi DVD Rewriter. I put a movie DVD in and it mounts on the desktop with the name of the movie, then an error appears stating There was an initialization error. [A valid DVD Drive could not be found. [-70012]
I checked System Profiler and got this.

Hi-
With the advent of Intel Macs, Mac compatible devices have increased.
Problem is, even though they say OS X compatible, doesn't mean that it will work with older PPC macs.
This is especially the case with USB and USB 2.0 devices on non-native USB 2.0 machines like the Quicksilver.
Are you using a USB 2.0 PCI card?
That could help get past errors due to slow bus speed on USB 1.1.
However, for PPC Macs, and especially G4's, firewire interfaces are much, much more reliable.
A closer look shows that you are connected to USB 1.1.
The bus is just too slow, and too congested for a data device like a hard drive or optical drive.
Might consider a USB 2.0 PCI card to get data moving.
