  • I put a case on my iPod touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  The head phones work though.  I called Apple Support and the 2 people I spoke with seemed baffled.  Has this happened to anyone and how do I resolve this?

I put a Griffin case on my daughter's iPod Touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker.  There is sound when we use the headphones.  Is there a mute function that I may have switched on and if so how do I turn it off?
It was a gift bought by her Godparents in January and I live in the islands so I can't just drive it back to the store to have them look @ it!
Called Apple Support and spoke to 2 people who seemed baffled and who could only suggest I reset the device.  Who h has not helped.
    HELP!!!!!!!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • There is no sound coming from my ipod!!

Hi, I am using an itouch 2nd gen. and there is no sound coming from it when i attach my ear phones to it. I have reset the settings, restored it, switched it off many times, still nothing. The earphones are working just fine. Some help would be great!! Thanks!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. I would say not worth it for a 2G iPod

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • Very Very Bad Sound Coming from Quad at Start-Up

I've been a happy quad user for over a month and this morning I awoke my quad and heard a super loud "snap" like a serious electrical spark - scared the
$%@# out of me and my GF came running in when she heard it.
I find the quad always makes a loud "click" upon start-up, but this was atypical, I don't like loud electrical sounds emanating from my computer!
Anyone else hear this or have this problem?

thanks for your responses ... the loud electrical "snap" I heard was an isolated event and extremely loud - I jumped about 10 feet and I hadn't even had a coffee yet. There is a "click" sound upon hitting the power button which I assume is normal.

  • Sound coming from both speakers and headphones at the same time in probook 4440s

I have a Probook 4440s with windows 8 pro(64 bit) with IDT high definition codec installed. Yesterday when i was playing some songs i noticed that the sound was coming from both headphones and speakers even when my headphones are plugeed in and my lappy was having no such problems a few hours earliers while i was watching a movie. Please help..

It may be because you have both the internal speakers and headphones enabled at the sametime on your laptop. This might just happen automatically when you plug your headphones in. You need to manage your audio devices on your laptop.
Go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sounds> Manage Audio Devices> Playback Tab (which should already be selected)
In the playback tab there should be a list of all the audio devices you are using on your computer. Right click on the one you don't want to use and click disable. This should stop the sound coming from that audio device.
Remember: You will need to enable that audio device if you want to listen to sound through it again. Your internal speakers won't work once you enable them again. This might also be the case with your headphones. You may also have to do this every time your plug in a device or once you restart your computer.
Another note: Sometimes disabled devices will not show up on the audio device list so once you disable a device it will dissappear. This is an easy fix too. Just right click on an audio device and make sure show disabled devices and show disconnected devices is checked.
    I hope this helps.
(I was using a computer with Windows XP to explain the instructions but it should be similar with your Windows Operating System. You may however have to play around a little on your computer because it may be slightly different)

  • The sound from my facetime is very low.  I have gone to system preferences and adjusted the sound, it makes no difference and I cant hear when it rings

  • Sound coming from internal speaker

    Hi all,
I have solaris 10 installed on my ultra 60 but when I play music or enable sounds in gnome all sounds are coming from the internal speaker, not from the speakers I connected.
How can I enable the 'good' speakers instead of the hardware speakers?

Is there a way to save the sdtaudiocontrol settings so that they come up that way every time?
I get tired of turning off the internal speaker and turning on the external output after I logout or reboot.
I've been using Solaris 9 and Gnome 2.0 and will shortly finish upgrading the workstation to Solaris 10 SJD. I have no reason to expect that the new S10 with SJD will behave differently than the older version.

  • Sound Coming From Both Headphone and Speaker (Elitebook 8460p)

I have windows 7 64-bit and when I plug headphones into the jack in the front right, the sound comes out of both the speaker and headphones. Here's what I've tried to fix the problem:
    1) BIOS update to P20
    2) Audio driver update to latest on HP site
    3) Make headphones not the communication default
I'm running out of options here, and it seems like nothing will solve this. Thanks

I've got the same problem as well. It's very frustrating. Does anyone have an answer?

  • My iphone keeps cutting out when i ring people and people cant hear me when i speak what could it be?

when i ring people my iphone keeps cutting out, it connects but i can hear them talking but they cant hear me talking :s

    Hey Ciara,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having issues with others being able to hear you while on calls, the issue seems to be resolved by using speakerphone. This makes sense, as speakerphone utilizes a different microphone. I would advise you to take a look at the following articles:

  • I just bought my macbook and ever 15 minutes there like bubble sound coming from my macbook which is very annoying and I don't know where this sound coming from?

every once in a whiel, randomly, my macbook retnia display which I just purcheased will make a weird bubble sound. it's not the sound that it makes when you send a text message, it's some other sound.
but it happens randomly. i can't figure out what's triggering it. and nothing happens when it makes this sound. the screen doesn't turn back on, i get no notification, no text, no email, no messages from anything, nothing from any of my apps
i have no idea what this random sound is. does anyone have any idea what this is or what it means?

If you just purchaed it, you are still under warranty, (for 1 year) take it in and have it checked out. This is probably just a setting, but your desciption is difficult to follow.
You are still under warranty, take advantage of it!
Do you have any reminders set?

  • Sound coming from wrong speaker (5.1 Setup)

I have my iMac (Mid 2011) connected with a AV Receiver (Thunderbolt ==> HDMI). The sound from the center speaker is coming out of the rear left speaker.
When I check the speakers with MIDI configurator in the application folder, all noise is coming out of the speaker it should come out.
The player i am using mostly is VLC. I also tried Mplayer and Plex, both have the same issue.
I am using OS X Lion, I did some research and found a page on the VLC forum where this issue is happening to several people

The .16 drivers on my computer are displayed as 6.0.102.17, date 3/25/2013, is that correct?
I noticed that the routing improved compared to .23 however the bass and center are still being routed to the wrong speaker, at this point I'm starting to think that it could be a problem with my 5.1 kit, I will give it a shot with my on-board sound card.
