Thermal camera-photo booth

Hi, when using photo booth my "thermal camera" effect is not working. it has worked before, just recently when I went into the program to mess around, it had this problem. All the other effects are working fine...glow, comic, stretch, colored pencil, pop art, etc. ... all of those are great.
any ideas on what can i do to fix it up?..

Hello, CaLiFuCa
i even isntalled it twice ... any other idea?
Did you do your reinstall with the "Pop Art" link to the Russian package (http://www.apple.ru/macosx/download/package/PhotoBooth1.2RU.dmg.zip) that Ralph linked above, or did you use the "Mac OS X Install Disc 1" that came with your MacBook?
If you have not tried using your "Install Disc", you might see if that will work for you. If you need help reinstalling only the applications (without reinstalling all your system software,) see the User's Guide booklet that came with your MacBook. For instance, in this version of the MacBook User's Guide, the instructions for reinstalling only the applications software appears on page 97.
If the Software Restore that came with your MacBook works like my PowerBook's software restore disk, you should be able to restore an individual software application like Photo Booth only. In worst case, you my have to reinstall ALL the applications software that came pre-installed on your MacBook.
I suggest that you have your Mac OS X Maintenance up to date and that you repair permissions both before and after you reinstall.
As Ralph post, if you have already used your own software reinstaller, I have no other suggestions other than to have your Mac checked by an Apple-Authorized Service Provider.
Good Luck,
Jim

  • HT201272 My camera, photo booth and face time have gone missing

Suddenly my camera, FaceTime and photo booth have disappeared from my iPad.  Also is there a way to upgrade an operating system on my iPad.?

If you can't find them on any of your homescreens or app folders (and it's not a first-gen iPad which doesn't have those apps), and you can't find them via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then are they hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Camera being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
To update the iOS version, connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
A first gen iPad should update to iOS 5.1.1 (it doesn't support iOS 6) and an iPad 2 (and 3) to 6.0.1 (which are the only versions that are 'signed' by Apple) - updating an iPad 2 or 3 to you will remove the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change.

  • Camera/photo booth not working

Hi. The camers and photo booth applicaions are not responding. although face time appears to work. My only action prior to them not working was to sync with apple and download an update to the ipad software. (version 4.3.5). Have restarted ipad, reset, restored to no affect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Try resetting the device (Hold down both the power button and home button at the same time for around 10 seconds until the apple logo appears). If it doesn't work still, do above.

  • Photo booth and facetime showing no connected camera, photo booth and facetime showing no connected camera?, photo booth and facetime showing no connected camera?

How resolve error "no camera connected"??

    Hi ..
Make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click Software Update
And try the troubleshooting steps for the built in iSight camera here >  How to Troubleshoot iSight

  • Dropped ipad.  All Photos now look like the thermal camera in photo booth app.  Any Fix?

My sister dropped her ipad.  All photos now look like thermal camera photo in  Photo Booth App.  Any fix?

I think this is unlikely to work, but have her check Settings>General>Accessibility>Invert Colors>Off. It's hard to imagine that her dropping the iPad would cause a setting to change on it's own, but it's worth a look anyway.
If it wasn't that setting, have her reset her iPad and see if that fixes it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't help, then she could try restoring the iPad, and if that fails, a trip to an Apple store would be in order.

  • Camera, FaceTime, photo booth are gone.... What's happening

I have been using the iPad for a couple days, and I realized that the camera, photo booth, FaceTime icons are gone. What's happening ?

I'm having a similar problem. The difference that the restrictions are disabled and I still don't have camera, facetime or photo booth. When I enable restrictions I can't event turn the camera or facetime on. Not able to select on or off.
Any ideas? The iPad mini was purchased one day ago.
    Thank you

  • Display looks like thermal camera effect from photo booth

I am using my dad's iMac from (new from July) and the screen looks like the thermal effect when using photo booth. Everything is sort of glowing and highlighted. Is there a quick fix to make it go back to regular display use. I'm not sure what things my dad has pushed to get us here (he had a stroke and doesn't speak), so your guess is as good as mine.
It has apple care and is under warranty. Should I reinstall software? Will that fix it?
    Thanks.
    Anne Z

I should also say that I have 10.4.11 on the computer and I've tried changing things in appearance and desktop and screen saver to no avail. When it booted up on the restart from os update, it looked fine until the very end when this effect took over. It's really weird, blue and sort of glowing.
    Thanks,
    Anne Z

  • Web cam is very sluggish with Photo Booth

    Hi,
I'm on the new 24", 2.4 Ghz iMac and most everything works consistently and well, but I'm getting concerned about the internal Webcam.
From time to time I go into Photo Booth just to check things out. More than once, I have gotten a green screen with no Webcam working. And last time, I even had a green screen and the camera/Webcam green light was on at the top of the iMac. I tried taking a photo and I got a green square (surprise!).
Usually, if I quit the photo booth application and restart it, eventually the Webcam will come on and I can see myself etc.
But I worry that this is a possible defect. What if down the road I need this Webcam and ooops! too late to claim any warranty.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

Hi, ah the green screen issue! from what I remember a few pepe's had this issue with the white iMac c2d.. From memory-Repair Permissions & Reboot. If that fails do the SMC reset thing. A great addition to the iSight App is iGlasses ->http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/settings.html ....L

  • Mid 2009 13" MBP iSight camera bad picture quality in photo booth

My daughter's stock mid 2009 13" MBP 2.26 ghz intel core two duo has a problem with the isight camera. The isight camera is built in to the screen. The isight camera works some of the time flawlessly and other times it comes out real grainy and with small colored pixels all over the screen like colored static (about 20% to 30% of the photo booth screen is affected but the rest of the screen outside of the photo booth app is unaffected). She only uses it in photo booth but we've tried the iChat app and the same thing happens there too, once she couldn't get the MBP to connect to the isight camera (it just showed a black photo booth screen), so she closed the lid of her MBP and reopened it and it worked. All of the software and firmware is up to date and we've tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC, it didn't do anything to fix the problem. It seems like there's a wire loose in the computer from the screen to the computer base, only because I can move the screen back and forth and the picture quality changes, the amount of static on the picture will move, go away or get worse. I had the screen changed in early 2010 (January or February) (the MBP was about 5 or 6 months old then) at the apple store under warranty due to dirt under the screen's glass (manufacturing defect). The photo booth picture static problem comes and goes, but here lately it comes more than it goes. The screen in general is in good shape and doesn't have any detectable problems with it, it has a good picture and no dead pixels, the problem seems to be only isolated to the isight camera. Can some one help with this problem? How long of a warranty is given on the warranty repairs (like the screen change they did in early 2010)? If apple does a repair on it and finds a wire that has rubbed the insulation off of it on a hinge causing a short and the isight problem, as a result of a sloppy repair from the first warranty repair, will they cover it under warranty again even if it's been over a year since they changed the screen? Also how honest will apple be if they do find out it is a problem caused from the first screen replacement, will they own up to their mistake? If I don't agree with apple's repair decision, can I get a second opinion from an outside source, third party, and if it's diagnosis different than apple's and can be proven, can I still get apple to do and pay for the repairs and labor if it turns out to be their fault from the first warranty screen replacement?
The reason why I'm asking is, I took my wife's white macbook in about a year ago for the famous cracked top cover replacement (under warranty) and when I got the computer back, the isight camera didn't work, so I gave it back, they took it apart a look at it and said there was nothing wrong with it and gave it back, then the screen wouldn't come on so after 4 hours at the Apple store they decided to send it to Austin, TX. for repairs (I'm in Ft. Worth TX.). Apple in Austin said it needed a new main board. They said the old one had water damage to it. We never had water anywhere near the computer, not even in the same room. It was working fine when we took it in, we took it in just to get the plastic top case, that cracks all of the time, replaced under warranty. And then they wanted us to pay for an $800 main board because some how while they were doing the top cover replacement it got water damaged. I argued with them and they finally gave me a one-time offer of them paying for half of the repair and labor or if I disagreed or left the store I would have to pay the whole amount if I chose to have the repairs done. So I ended up having to pay $467 for a year old macbook main board that was water damaged in their possession during their repairs. I like Apple and their products but I am worried about giving my daughter's MBP over to them for repairs because of this incident, it's an honesty issue with how honest they will be with what they find because they won't give back the old parts for analysis by a third party to verify their diagnosis.
Thanks for any info and advice anyone can give.

    Hi,
As a personal note I find long posts like this hard to read if they are not broken up in to paragraphs.
As I say it is  a personal thing.
I can give you some information about the camera and laptops over the past few years.
Basically in early Laptops of the MacBook Pro and MacBook range the cable did tend to fray at the point where it passed through the hinge.  It did take a well used laptop that had the lid open and closed frequently to cause this.  (your 2009 model might just be in that group - I have no firm dates or models I am afraid)
Later models have this rerouted so that this does not happen.
However the cable has then tended to get pulled from the camera end and become loose.
This On Line Self fix site has pages about some models  (The one I have linked to may not be yours)
I have linked in to later pictures in the sequence but there are navigation points to work back to the start.
Note:- they use pretty specifc specialest tools as well in these pics.
Doing this would certail Void any Warranty you have left.
From Posts mainly in the iChat and the iSight areas I have gathered that it seems common for Apple to replace the Screen as a whole rather than fiddle with getting solely at the camera.
Apple has this article on Trouble Shooting an iSight
Basically it says try several apps then try logging in on another Mac User account to see if it is App based or User based or in fact System wide.
If System wide then resetting the SMC/PMU is the only suggested fix.  (Which I did read you had done)
In addition to that I would add that testing should be done in different lighting conditions.
Lighting in the evening or dark that is good enough to read buy is not always good enough for the camera or is not illuminating the right areas.
Some people have reported that Starting the computer in Safe Mode (then Rebooting afterwards) seems to help.  (it clears out some caches and starts up with reduced extensions)
As to actual Repairs and any Warranty that may still be in place I cannot say.
I can say that when people post about problems with repairs a certain stores someone else will tend to post that their experience was different.
You seem to report two different experiences with the two computers yourself.

  • Camera app won't work camera works (FaceTime and photo booth, etc) but not in camera mode what is wrong and howmdominfix?

When I open the camera app all I get is a black screen. If I choose FaceTime or photo booth it works just fine so camera itself is fine. It seems to be the app that is not fine.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Quit the camera app completely and then try it again..
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
    Try the camera app again.

  • Why my macbook air camera not working? Neither Photo Booth nor Face time.

I have not been able to use Face Time, Photo Booth and Skype as the camera of my Macbook air is not responding? Any solution guys? Will appreciate the answers from the people who have experienced this problem and have solved it successfully.

I had this same problem, and the way i have resolved it was by doing a back up for the Time Machine. Hadn't done that in 190 days and after I did it my camera work after a sleep for the first time in months.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 - iSight HD camera not HD in Photo Booth

    Dear reader,
I have the new MacBook Pro (2011 model), the 15" 2,2ghz with an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD and 8GB of ram.
When I want to make photos in Photo Booth it says it's using the "Facetime HD Camera (Built-in)" but it does not make HD pictures. The picture size is restricted to 640 x 480 pixels and I want them to be HD so I can make pictures of documents and store them on my Mac.
I cannot find the solution anywhere. Do you know what to do?
    Thanks in Advance!
    Greetings,
    Julius van der Kwast

I think this is a false advertisement as was the case with iPad back facing camera. Steve job called it HD camera but it is not HD at *all*. They did not mention the resolution, where 720p, 1080p?
It is just a better camera they are calling HD. Cheap advertisement.

    Hi there,
There are a couple of things that we can try. A good first troubleshooting for a varity of issues is resetting your computers PRAM.

  • Built-in Camera (iSight?) works on Skype but not Photo Booth

I have OSX 10.5.8.  In the past, I was able to use PhotoBooth, but now when I open it, all options to take a photo are grayed out. The screen, where, I believe, previously I'd seen whatever was in the built-in camera's lens (generally whatever I put in front of the screen to photograph), I now see all black with a white camera icon crossed out.  Skype works fine though.  When I try to load iChat, it crashes unexpectedly.  For clarification, I'm using the built-in cam and do not have external camera hooked up to it.  I don't really care about iChat, which I never use, and am very, very glad that Skype, which I do use, is working.  However, I would very much like to get PhotoBooth working.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance to any kind soul who responds.  I will be very grateful to resolve this.

    (1) If restarting Mac does not resolve your problem,
    (2) backup your Mac or, at least, its important files.
Then use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and install the 10.5.8 Combo Update.
          http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866
Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems.
    (3) If the problem persists, reinstall OS X from your Leopard disk.  Then repair permissions, apply the Combo Update, and repair permissions again.
One of the above should get Photo Booth working again.

  • How do I get a camera tab on my Photo Booth

I have an iMac OS X 10.4.11. and my version of Photo Booth does not have a Camera Tab for me to connect an additional camera, it only allows me to use it's own built in camera. Is there any way to get an update to my Photo Booth so I can get this tab? I have checked Apple updates but I can't seem to find anything for Photo Booth. Thanks Much, JK

Other users have reported that they can trick Photobooth into looking for another camera by first launching another application that 'grabs' the built-in camera, then they launch PhotoBooth with their additional camera. It's a workaround that apparently works with some, but not all types of cameras. I have not tried this method so please update with the results.
