Thermotron TCP/IP interface
Has anyone converted the Thermotron drivers for Chamber control to VI's that will run in LabView ver 9 or 10? Specificaly I an attempting to interface with a Thermotron 3800 controller via TCP/IP.

VinNo a management interface can not be used an alternate TCP reset interface.
The management interface is controlled by a different driver/method than used for the monitoring interfaces. The sensorApp process can attach to and receive and transmit packets on the monitoring interfaces, but is not able to attach to the management interface and so can not transmit Resets out the management interface. -

The code that establishes the connection (and responsible for throwing the exception):
SocketConnection socket = (SocketConnection)
Connector.open("socket://localhost:80", Connector.READ_WRITE, true)'I am sure that my device supports SocketConnection (I've gotten it to work on an IP address in the local network), so the problem must be that I use localhost? I've tried substituting it for 127.0.0.1, omitting the arguments, changing the port (I've tried 13, 14, 9002, ..), but to no avail.
Any ideas?

TCP RESET - CISCO IPS 4240 in IDS Mode - Block Teamviewer
I would like to block teamviewer in my network. we are using CISCO IPS 4240 in IDS Mode. I found that there are signatures for teamviewer in latest Signatures.
We have only configured promiscuous interface, I read that we can issue TCP resets thru promiscuous interface as well (recommended is dedicated tcp reset interface).
However in my case, I found that Signatures for teamviewer is not getting fired even after getting successful teamviewer connections.
I am a beginner is IPS, Any inputs will be valuable for me.We're talking about sigs 15002-0, -1, -2 here. They are by default shipped disabled and retired, so you'll want to enable and activate them.
For these, the signature settings are not hidden and what they look for is pretty clearly documented in the sig description.
-0 looks for some specific DNS requests on TeamViewer's startup. TCP resets will have no effect on this.
-1 looks for specific traffic to tcp port 5938 which would indicate Teamviewer's direct-connection method
-2 looks for traffic indicating use over http when teamviewer is configured to use a proxy
TCP resets are a best effort response, they aren't going to be a 100% effective stop -

We got an alert like this. But struggling to find out whether its malignant traffic. Any help would be deeply appreciatedUnfortunately this signature in particular cannot be easily determined from the information in the alert alone.
From the sig description:
"Triggers when both streams of data within a TCP connection indicate that a TCP hijacking may have occurred. The current implementation of this signature does not detect all types of TCP hijacking and false positives may occur. Even when hijacking is discovered, little information is available to the operator other than the source and destination addresses and ports of the systems being affected. TCP Hijacking may be used to gain illegal access to system resources.
This signature fires upon detecting old, out of sequence ack packets. The most common network event that may trigger this signature is an idle telnet session. The TCP Hijack attack is a low-probability, high level-of-effort event. If it is successfully launched it could lead to serious consequences, including system compromise. The source of these alarms should be investigated thoroughly before any actions are taken. Recommend security professional consultation to assist in the investigation.
This signature functions in promiscuous mode. However, while monitoring utilizing in-line mode, this signature is automatically disabled due to the protection provided by 1300 series of signatures."
More information is needed to take any action here such as the type of the two machines involved (how are they typically used, are they end user/server machines, etc) and if this attack makes sense in that scenario or if it is likely a false positive from telnet or some sort of other network anomaly. -

I have been trying to figure out how to get TCP reset working in IDSM-2.
Switch config,
monitor session 2 destination intrusion-detection-module 9 data-port 1
monitor session 2 source remote vlan 99
Custom testattack signature,
Log shows the signature has been triggered,
On the attacker, I ran a wireshark capture, but did not see any attempt to reset the TCP session.
Any idea what did I mis-configure ?
From what I have read, for native IOS, I don't have to configure anything for the TCP reset interface System0/1.

IDSM2 has a separate tcp-reset interface - System0/1 .In IDSM2, there is no need to explicitly configure the TCP Reset interface. The TCP Reset interface is automatically added to all necessary VLANs by the switch.
Once a signature is configured to perform the reset action, and if this is triggered, the reset will be sent out the reset port with the appropriate vlan tag attached. From the switch this is then sent to the appropriate vlan.

Shahzad.Your switchports will be set to 'access' if you are using 'physical interface inline pair' mode and it will be a trunk when you are using 'inline vlan pair mode'.
And the following is one of Marc's post regarding alternate tcp reset, its rarely required:
"Under most installations the alternate tcp reset interface is not needed.
By default the TCP resets will go back out the same interface where the attack was detected.
So if your promiscuous interface is connected to a 100Mbps hub for monitoring then the tcp resets will be sent back out that same promiscuous interface into the hub.
Or if your promiscuous interface is connected to the span port of a switch, then the tcp resets will be sent back out the same promiscuous interface into that span port.
The issue becomes no whether the sensor can send the tcp resets, but if the switch will accept them. Many switches Will accept tcp resets coming in from the span port. Some switches just require an extra parameter on the span configuration to tell the switch to allow incoming packets from the span port.
BUT there are some switches that do NOT allow incoming packets from their span ports.
These ituations are the reason for the alternate tcp reset interface configuration.
It requires having 2 sensing interfaces (one for promiscuous monitoring, and the the other used as just the alternate tcp reset interface). The command and control port can NOT be used as the alternate tcp reset interface.
You connect the promiscuous interface up to the span port of the switch. You configure the second interface as the alternate tcp reset interface of the first promiscuous interface. Then plug the second interface into the saem switch (but do Not make the 2nd one a span port).
Now when the sensor detects an attack on the 1st interface it will NOT send the tcp resets out the 1st interface, but instead will send out the tcp resets on the 2nd interface.
Since the switch won't accept the tcp resets from the span port you need the second interface to get the tcp resets into the switch.
This can also be done with taps where the taps (because taps have no means of accepting incoming packets).
The alternate tcp reset interface configuration is ignored when configured for inline monitoring. It is only used with promiscuous monitoring. "

Tcp Reset question - IPS Sensor 4255
I have this sensor doing tcp resets, the question I have is if I add a network to the "never block addresses" will the sensor still send tcp resets even though the network is in the never block? if so how do I tell the sensor to not block certain ip addresses..

PhilYou can configure sensors to send TCP reset packets to try to reset a network connection between an attacker host and its intended target host. In some installations when the interface is operating in promiscuous mode, the sensor may not be able to send the TCP reset packets over the same sensing interface on which the attack was detected. In such cases, you can associate the sensing interface with an alternate TCP reset interface and any TCP resets that would otherwise be sent on the sensing interface when it is operating in promiscuous mode, are instead sent out on the associated alternate TCP reset interface.

RX Invalid nwid packets on my wifi interface

I've got a problem with my WIFI connection using Madwifi :
When I'm under Linux, I can activate my connection with :

And it usually works but I recieve a very large ammount of "rx invalids
nwid" packets, and so my connection is always unstable and very slow.
At the beginnin I thought that the problem was the distance between me
and the a.p. , but then I tryed to connect under windows (with the
default connection manager), and it works perfectly.
Does anyone know what could be the problem ?

New transit interface on firewall
Hi All,
Below is the set-up. we'r planning to implement the second firewall portion which will connect to the ASA on asa's lan interface.
internet == ASA == firewall 2 == LAN / Application servers
ASA interface configuration:-
inte e0/0 (outside) - connected to internet , 202.95.64.21
inte e0/1(inside) - connected to single server , 192.168.0.2 /24
inte e0/2(transit) - configured for connecting the second firewall , 192.168.1.11 /24
int e0/2 will connect to the second firewall. Second firewall will have ip 192.168.1.12 on its outside interface facing ASA.
Now, following are the requirements for server access:-
1. Outound - Server 10.58.82.10 connected in the LAN needs to access an internet destination 203.12.12.12 for an ftp service
But this destination 203.12.12.12 only recognises request from ip 202.95.64.27 ( which is an ip from our internet subnet )
2. Inbound - Destination 203.12.12.12 access to 10.58.82.12 for sql service on port 1510
3. Outbound - Server 10.58.82.21 connected in LAN needs to acces internet destination 203.11.11.11 for an http service
( there is no restriction on the public ip it uses for this need )
Queries:-
1. int e0/2 is only created as an interface to connect the asa to the second firewall. will this work fine?
2. we'll be using static statements ; static ( transit, outside ) 203.12.12.12 10.58.82.10 to get requirement 1 working. Is this correct?
3. for requirement 2, how should it be configured?
4. how should requirement 3 be configured?
ASA will have a route for lan 10.58.x.x network on the transit interface to 192.16.1.12 and second firewall will have default route to 192.168.1.11.
Will this work well for my requirement, Please suggest with inputs.

2. For requirement one, yes, you are correct if the server also accesses other destination IP address with the same NATed address, but your static NAT statement has incorrect IP address
It should be:
static (transit,outside) 202.95.64.27 10.58.82.10 netmask 255.255.255.255
Or you can configure NAT/global pair as well if that server only requires outbound access, not both:
access-list nat1 permit ip host 10.58.82.10 host 203.12.12.12
nat (transit) 10 access-list nat1
global (outside) 10 202.95.64.27 255.255.255.255
3. For requirement two, what public IP address do you want to use for the NAT? You can either use a spare if you like:
static (transit,outside) 202.95.64.2x 10.58.82.12 netmask 255.255.255.255
Then you would need to have ACL configured on the outside interface to permit the traffic:
access-list permit tcp any host 202.95.64.2x eq 1510
OR/ alternatively, you can also use the ASA outside interface IP:
static (transit,outside) tcp interface 1510 10.58.82.12 1510 netmask 255.255.255.255
And the ACL:
access-list permit tcp any interface outside eq 1510
4. For requirement three, you can just use the existing global that you already have configured on the ASA and configure a generic NAT statement for the whole 10.58.82.0/24 subnet:
nat (transit) 10.58.82.0 255.255.255.0
OR/ if you want to be more specific then:
nat (transit) 10.58.82.21 255.255.255.255

As TCP/IP is such a generic protocol then you should be able to fairly easily build TCP/IP interfaces for both your LabVIEW and Matlab code and transfer data using ASCII, or variants etc depending on what sort of data you are trying to transfer. I'm not too familiar with Matlab, but on the LabVIEW end there are some very good TCP/IP server and client examples that ship with LabVIEW.
Another option that you may want to consider, and the reason I'm answering this is that I've recently done a project whereby we took some legacy Matlab code which we wanted to transpose into LabVIEW so that we could then fully automate a test system we have using TestStand. Much of it we were able to derive LabVIEW equivalent functions, but for some functions where LabVIEW didn't appear to have a suitable equivalent, or where it was simply more efficient, we simply copy and pasted the Matlab code into either in the first instance MathScript nodes (not dependant on Matlab) or Matlab script nodes (which will hopefully return to at a future date to fully transpose over to LabVIEW so that we are no longer dependant on a Matlab licence).
In both instances the relative ease of doing this was very impressive, and we were able to wrap huge amounts of Matlab code within LabVIEW with very few issues. As an idea, have you considered wrapping your Matlab functionality in this way and then keeping all the TCP/IP client and server comms within LabVIEW?
N.B. if you haven't found it search the palette for 'Matlab Script'

Communication with database using TCP sockets connection
Hi all,
I am bit of a newbie when it comes to databases. In a project I realised over te passed few weeks, I communicated with an 11g database using an application I created with VS Express. It uses an ODBC connection. I now want to connect a PLC to the same database. These PLC's don't have the ability to install an ODBC client so I need something different.
I am easily able to open a TCP socket on the PLC and send data from there. I would like to know if I can start a TCP sockets connection with our 11g server and send all queries directly. The other (already suggested) option would be to have the PLC connect to a PC that reads this information and hands it over to the ODBC connector, but that would mean I need an extra PC just to 'translate'.
I have been searching these forums for socket, TCP and more and feel it is possible, but I need a good document as a reference to show/tell me how it's done.

MarijnThe TCP/IP interface to Oracle is undocumented (and hugely complex anyway). You'll need to use a higher layer iterface or setup your own infrastructure.
We need more information about what is available to you inside the PLC.
Can you use Java? If so, perhaps use thin JDBC?
Can you sent HTTP requests? If so you could set up your own Web services to handle this.
If you can only use C or C++, Oracle has interfaces there too.. it's called OCI (Oracle Call Interface) and thats as close to the networking layer as you can get.
Finally if you can use .NET Oracle has a Fully Managed Oracle Data Provider for .NET that you could use.
But if all you can do is super low level network access and none of the above then you will need to set up an intermediary as you mentioned. -

Please take into account that, as long as one of the sides of the connection (client-to-ace or ace-to-server) is still open, the other one will remain open as well even if the inactivity timeout is higher than what it's configured. This could happen if, for example, one of the sides is using TCP keepalives but the other one is not.
This is just something to check to see if you really have an issue or not. If you need further troubleshooting, I would recommend you to open a TAC case.

Hi All
The question is pretty simple. I can successfully connect to my ASA 5505 firewall via cisco vpn client 64 bit , i can ping any ip address on the LAN behind ASA but none of the LAN computers can see or ping the IP Address which is assigned to my vpn client from the ASA VPN Pool.
The LAN behind ASA is 192.168.0.0 and the VPN Pool for the cisco vpn client is 192.168.30.0
I would appreciate some help pls

ciscoasa#Well lots of new features have been hinted at for ASA 9.2 but I've not seen anything as far as an Engineering Commit or Customer Commit for that feature.
Site-site VPN in multiple context mode was added in 9.0(1) and I have customers have been asking for the remote access features as well.
I will remember to ask about that at Cisco Live next month. -
Hello.
We're running a NW6.5.8 machine on a HP Proliant ML350 G3. The server works
well since several years. Three weeks ago the server makes some problems.
After restarting the machine the memory runs low after 3 or for days. I
can't see a reason for this.
Do you have an idea for this?
