Thesaurus usage within Pages

In MS Word there is a very handy thesaurus function which allows you to right-click on a word which brings up a selection of synonyms for that word. You can then select one of those synonyms from the list and replace your original word with it by double-clicking on the desired word. I've been trying to figure out if there is a function like this in Pages. Is there?
I can bring up various dictionary/thesaurus/Wikipedia entries by 3-finger-tapping or with Ctrl-Cmmand-D, but cannot select and insert an alternate word from there. I have to copy-paste the word or re-type it maually. This is a big minus for me since I use this function very often.
Is there a way to activate this in Pages, or should I just get MS Word for Mac?

Well, there is a solution providing the replacement word appears in the dictionary lookup.
Once you have invoked the dictionary lookup on the highlighted word:
Double-click on the replacement word in the lookup panel to select it
Right-click (two finger tap) on that selection to choose copy from the contextual menu.
Single-click the original yellow highlighted word.
It changes from yellow back to the gray selection
Paste the replacement word

Adding JUST ONE CELL to a table within Pages

Hello,
I would like to add +just one cell+ to a table within "Pages" - but as far as I can see the program only offers to add whole lines or columns. (Within "MS Word", you have the possibility to "add cells" in a table - you can decide whether you want to shift the other cells downward or to the right.)
Do I miss something?

Maybe I should have said: Is there a function within Pages that is equivalent to the (very useful) one within Word. There isn't, I'm afraid.
Can I adjust only the size of one cell (with the mouse, by clicking on the vertical/horizontal line) without changing the size of the whole column/line? I guess that it should be working - I didn't manage to do it - might be kind of tricky.

Navigation within page no longer working

I am currently living in China and much to my dislike my mother and sister who live back home in the States are using my iMac as their main computer. I received an email from my mom today telling me that she cannot navigate within pages once she gets onto a website using Safari. Any idea what is causing this to happen? She did just have a new router and modem installed back home, if that has any impact at all.
Also, when the man from AT&T was at our house looking at the computer he asked why we weren't running a firewall or any type of anti-virus software for the iMac. Both times I have bought a computer from Apple they have said I do not need to invest in any type of firewall or anti-virus software. Is this the general consensus or are most of you using some sort of anti-virus software?

Basics first, I would think.
After they had the modem and router installed, did it work correctly?
Are your mother/sister ever emptying the Safari cache & History list?
That would be my first guess, assuming it worked in the beginning.
Your Mac has a firewall. It's very easy to turn on in System Preferences.
That's all they need, IMHO.
No other apps are necessary, as far as I'm concerned.

Is the anyway to get a report of component usage within an Application.

It would sure be 'nice' to have a report of the component usage within an Application. I am most interested in where the LOVs are being referenced. It is extremely time consuming to check every report/form item by item. I'm sure this information is available 'somewhere' within the Portal schema but I don't know where. Anyone got any ideas? Those tables are not granted to public.
How do you plan to use it? For your own maintain purpose?

For some reason, I cannot use tabs within pages with Mozilla. For example, if I am in yahoo mail, I cannot move from inbox to contacts

The only thing that works are links but navigation within pages does not work.

Data usage analysis page. Doesn't match current usage page?

O.K. Here's what I'm going through.
Verizon tells me I'm way over my 5.0 limit. Right now I am close to 9GB.
So to check I click on usage, This is what I get.
Data Allowance Exceeded. Additional data usage will be billed at $10 per 1.000 GB. Current Overage = 3.950 GB
4.0 overages x $10 = $40.00 in overage fees. You may be able to avoid data overage charges by increasing your data allowance before 11/25/12 and requesting the change be backdated to the beginning of the current bill cycle.     5 GB of 5 GB

Next I click View Data Details.
I get 160 lines of mumbo jumbo. So then I go to analyze usage. And it tells me I'm not even close to 1GB! Whats up with that? So I read every single line and notice that the date is from Sept to October. I only joined up Oct. 25th. Shouldn't it show my current analysis from Oct 25th to now? How do I get this number.
Because within the first 3days of using verizon it said I was OVER my 5GB!
I only use FB, email and browse the web. Ebay and shopping channels. At the store they told me 5Gb is more than enough. What do I do? Somebody please help?

Yes I suppose it is. I have a 1gig netbook. The wireless card didn't work anymore ( or so verizon thinks so) So they upgraded me to a 4g wifi hotspot now sitting on my counter. This is the only computer in the house. And we live very rurally. (only reason why I went with this) I have 2 neighbor within 15 acres. And 160 acres behind my house. So I don't think someone is hacking in. Besides, I just got this. Not sure how someone could figure out within 1 day or so that I have one.

Table Problem x2 within Pages: 1) In the Header; 2) Maintaining a table's starting point when carrying over to the next page.

Pages '09 v4.1
Problem 1:
     I am working with a 2-column Page document. Its my goal to have three items listed in a header in particular positions. Far left shows the paragraph number the page starts with, in the center is a title of the contents of the page, and on the far left is the last paragraph number to appear. To place these three items in the desired positions requires the insertion of a lot of spacing on both sides of the 'centered' title along with counting the characters of the title to find its center to alighn with the center of the page. 253 pages of this to will qualify me to be labled with a severe case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I don't want OCD.
     However, by installing a one row/3 column table in the header my task was made a lot easier in alighnments. But, another problem reared up. Within the header underneath the table is a vertical space remaining. This vertical 'tallness' is equivalent to the font size of 10. Its taking up too much space between the header and the text. It needs to be reduced or eliminated.
     On the left-hand page I am able to reduce the font as far down as '1'. I've settled on using '3'. However, on the right-hand page the font will not accept any size selections be they less or more and remains stubbornly at font 10. Within a Header that does not have a table, I am able to change the font of both left and right pages.
     Is there a another way to approach what I desire for the header other than installing a table in it? Is there a way to alter the font on the right hand pages?
Problem 2:
     Whenever I create a table following text already on a page all is right until the table's growth in construction laps over to the next page. At that point the first row snaps to the top of the following page leaving an undesired area (space) between the last line of the text on the preceding page. Whenever I attempt to drag the table to the desired position it snaps back. This only happens when the table is larger than the remaining area of the page. If the table is started at the top of an unused page and runs beyond the confines of that page than it continues as expected onto the next page duplicating the table header. But to do this it must begin at the top of an unused page. Is there a means to have a table placed in the remaining space of a page and what does not fit continues to the next page in effect having a partial of the table on each page?
So there you have it. Christmas is over and its back to work. Thank-you for your attention.

Regards re-positioning a table:
I went to Inspector>Wrap>Object Placement/Inline (moves with text) and found that the inline option was selected. Some of the rows within the table have two lines of text. Again, I dragged the table to the desired position on a page that is partially composed with text and got the same results as before - the table snapping back to the top of the following page where it initially resided. In this current position the 2-page table does break as it should on the following 3rd page. Below is a schematic of the appearance of the 2-pages involved.
Page 1 left side.
TEXT 1-line as 1-column
TABLE (5-rows)
TEXT (2-columns) 14-lines left column and 13-lines right column.
[Layout Break] otherwise the above textual columns would be all on the left side of the page.
TEXT 1-line as 1-column
* The desired insertion point for a two page table on a page that is 40% filled with the above descriptions.
Page 2 right side.
A 2-page table flowing or breaking into a 3rd page.
Page 3 left side.
The overflow of the subject table.

Is there some other way to anchor a table to the text other than Inspector>Wrap>Object Placement/Inline (moves with text)?

How to get web pages opening within pages?

Just wondering how this is done or implemented. I visited and
researcehd several websites a while ago and observed that pages
were opening in pages instead of loading a new page.
For example: You go to a web page, the links are all above
under the page banner or on the side like in a side bar or Nav bar
and the content are on the right or the middle of the page.
So when you click on a link the page opens within the same
page with out a new page loading, just the contents gets replaced
but the entire page doesn't changed. Is this AJAX? I know you can
do this with Frames but I dont want to use frames, are there other
ways to get this accomplished?
Please explained or reference resources.

Links within pages in iWeb

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out how to create hyperlinks within a page in iWeb. Specifically, I'm trying to write a FAQ, and want to link individual questions listed at the top of the page with their answers further down in the page. Help???

Those are called anchors and not supported by iWeb. Put in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
It can be done with HTML snippets and javascript as Cyclosaurus mentions here: http://widgets.cyclosaurus.com/Anchors/Anchorsfiles/widget0markup.html. But one must be proficient with javascript.
There's a crude workaround with snippets that Peter Berglund describes in his blog: http://web.me.com/petber/iWebtips/iWeb_Tips/Entries/2009/2/22_How_to_use_Anchors_iniWeb.html. This Contents page uses that method for some of it's links - those that are green.
Alternate solutions are with using rollovers like shown in this demo page: Show and Hide Text or using Fancy Zoom shown in the right hand example in this page: FancyZoom You could replace the photo with an image that says Click for Answer" or whatever and have the answer in a jpg file. Both are somewhat low tech solutions.

Can Pages do this: hotlinks within pages for outlining

Hello,
I'm looking for a program that will help with outlining multiple projects I have going on. Ideal working method would be staring from a macro (brainstorming what each project will be), and build into a micro (specific thing that need to get done), and finally into a "to-do" list.
So far I've been using dreamweaver for this application, as I can easily link multiple pages together. however, I'm getting sick of how it handles text, and am hoping a word processor like pages might be the answer. Can you create "hot links" ala a website, that instantly jump you to different pages? Do these pages have to be in a single document, or can the be in multiple documents.

Pages does internal links within the same document but not links to other documents on the harddisk.
If you are good at setting things up, I would recommend that you install MediaWiki locally for that kind of job. It is the software of Wikipedia, and it seems to handle all you need to do, and much more.
However, I have never installed it on a Mac, and it usually takes a few hours to get right on Windows. Take a big breath before you start.

Delete a "page" within pages

I am desperate to delete several pages within a saved Pages document. The problem is: it appears all my pages are "merged" or something. When I click "View - Page Thumbnails" the thumbsnails do appear on the left. However, I cannot select ONE page to delete. Whenever I attempt to click on ONE page it selects all of them. There is a bold yellow line that wraps around all of the pages preventing me from deleting one.
So I attempted to delete manually by going into the document and selecting the text. However, that ultimately selects the design aspects and then it deletes the designs on every single page throughout the document.
HELP! It can't be that **** hard to delete something.

Select and delete the content of the pages and the document will shrink accordingly. You don't actively add pages when you write in the document (in Word Processing documents that is) nor do you have to delete "pages". just delete the content you don't want just like when you delete one word you don't want.
With adding section break you are at risk at getting blank or near blank pages if you add content to a section.

Cannot save or print from within Pages

I can no longer save or print pages documents. Those menu items are grayed out. All I can do is open, close or start a new document, I've tried trashing the pref file to no avail. I also can only open pages documents from within the program, clicking on them doesn't open them even though it will open Pages itself.
Any suggestions?

Did you try running Pages from a different account?
Did you check the Console (Applications > Utilities > Console) for suspicious entries?
Did you try repairing permissions on the volume? (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First Aid > Repair Disk Permissions (I recently heard that hardly ever fixes any problems, but it is easy to do in the background and it doesn't hurt.)
Did you try to reinstall Pages?

Faults on BT's online usage meter page

Assuming that it is July 1st today, surely my online usage meter at bt.com should have reset to zero. It still shows 30GB used out of 40GB (Option 2) as if it were still June.
What's more, clicking the Help with BB Usage links merely replicates the same page.
Something is not right. Woe betide BT if I get charged for exceeding my limit.

Mine's been reset in the last few hours between about 0200 hrs and 0830 hrs on the 2 July, with a new date on the left - 1 July 23:59. The previous datestamp on the "incorrect" meter page was 30 June 23:59.
But here's a strange thing: this morning at about 01:30 my Home Hub page was registering a reboot 3 days 12 hrs ago, and an incredibly wild usage figure of 45GB download, 7 hrs later it reads 2 days 22 hrs with the same d/l record

Different Link Properties within Page?

How can you change the properties of different link within
the same page? For example: the color of the link, look of the
link, etc.
Reason is that I have links behind two different back drops.

No, I don't think that's a good suggestion. It will fail in
IE, and it has
an unnecessary use of custom classes.

Can't double click include files within page to open them in CS3

In Dreamweaver 8, if I had a page that had an include file
in, and I wanted to edit the include file, all I had to do was
double click the include within the page I was working on, and the
include file would open up. This doesn't work in CS3 for me
although I think I have all the same preferences set. Can anyone
tell me how to bring back this very convenient feature?
