They say my mac is all virusy! What do I do to not transmit?
Howdy.
I feel like I just heard that I may have some highly contagious disease and I'm scared of passing it on.
Situation: I'm living in a South American country which is basically universally a pc environment and I quite happily do my writing/researching with my macbook. However, when I need to print stuff, I have to use a USB stick drive to transfer files to copy centers or internet cafes, since I don't have a printer at home.
Today, when I tried to (and eventually did) get some pdfs printed at a cafe, the person there had trouble with my USB drive and said "you've got a lot of viruses on this." Actually, she said "está lleno de virus." Obviously, this doesn't negatively affect how my computer runs, but I don't want to contaminate other computers, especially as I do back ups onto external drives and then transfer data to pcs.
What do I do to make sure that I'm not passing on viruses, via external harddrives or USB stick drives, to pcs?

Hi Christine,
These files that you're working with, were they received from someone else (who was using a PC) or did you create them on your Mac? It's very possible that the file is contaminated, which is why you're not experiencing problems but that doesn't mean you're not playing the part of an asymptomatic carrier.
Secondly, it's possible that the USB stick is the asymptomatic carrier and thus anything it plugs into transmits the virus to the host machine.
I'd recommend a few things:
1.) Wipe the USB drive, partition it in Disk Utility to ensure it's clean
2.) Run a thorough virus scan on the data and the drive via a Windows machine with an up-to-date anti-virus program
3.) Contact the people who sent you these documents and inform them that their machine might be infected (if you determine that any of the files you received from them were infected)

I contacted my carrier which is swisscom of switzerland and they told me only to restore my iphone with a non swisscom card but I didnt get my unlock, now im stuck in the setup as a new iphone, I contacted them again gave them my imei and they responded to me try to contact apple , idk what to do now. 1). What do expect to accomplish by posting your IMEI here? There is no one from Apple on this forum and Apple does not monitor it. Apple does not unlock phones; the carrier does.
2). As you have stated that your phone is unlocked as evidenced by the message on iTunes, you can be pretty sure it is, unless as diesel vdub has stated it was hacked/jaibroken in the past or the computer used to sync/unlock the phone was used with another previously hacked/jailbroken phone.
3). Since we can assume you phone is unlocked, then the problem must be with your SIM. Either:
a). It is damaged
b). It has not been activated by the carrier
c). It is from a carrier that does not support the iPhone.
On another post, I asked what carrier you are now attempting to use and you have not answered the question. -
I had 3.6 & the website said new Firefox, need OSX 10.5 or above. Now the icon in the dock has a white circle w/slash like do not enter & when I click on it, a box opens that says,"You cannot open the app Firefox because it is not supported on this architecture."

How to make form buttons do what they say?
I created a test form on a sqlquery and the HTMLDB created the items and buttons correctly. Afterwards I created a process on load before heade to retrieve a row from the DB if some items are populated.
What I wanted to know is:
1-How do I make the buttons do the thing they say?
2-Can someone explain what is the purpose, and how I use them, of the Database Manipulation Request that I can select in the button definition.

To see how things are supposed to work, create a report + form using the wizard on a single table with a primary key. Once completed, you'll run the report, click on an edit icon which takes you to a form, prepopulated with the data from the corresponding row. Because the primary key item has been set, the update button is shown and when you click update, and update will happen. Likewise, when you click delete, the row will be deleted. I think the problems you're having may be related to the fact that you're building a form on a SQL Query, which is quite rare and may require special tweaks.

When you get the new iPhone 5S they say it come with all the iWork apps for free install already. But if i restore from back-up from an old device which doesnt have any iWork apps would I still receive those iWork Apps?

Yes. The apps are not pre-installed, but rather you are prompted to download them the first time you launch the App Store in iOS 7:

What USB 3.0 card should I get for early 2009 Mac Pro so I can connect the Drobo 5D? They say get CalDigit or Sonnet. Anyone have preference or experience with reliability with this. I am running Lion and Trying to find which is better as I know from experience not all cards are created equal. Thanks in advance for your help!

HELP!!! i have a mac g 5 and i uploaded Microsoft Office 2008 for my 90 year old mother. Now when she tries to open earlier word docs, they won't open at all :-( what happened? I SEE THE WORD IN THE NAVIGATION BAR BELOW, but when she tries to open a word doc, the navigation bar opens and closes around the Word symbol and nothing happens :-( i'm going crazy :-( PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP AND LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO?
If you have not already done so, repair permissions and restart your computer. Or boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu. When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer. Suggest that you post in the Microsoft Office for Mac Forums if the above does not work.

While doing the backup via iTune, my contacts in iPhone AND iPad have been completely wiped out. They are still all available on my Address Book on my Mac. Any idea what happened and how to resolve this ?
Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

It is possible the versions you have are not compatible with your new Mac. Could you please tell us the following:
1. What OS are you running.
To get this info, click on the Apple on the top left, then select About This Mac. The OS X version is there.
2. What are the versions of the apps that are giving you problems?
To get this info, double click on the hard drive icon and open the Applications folder. Select an application and right click on it. Then select Get Info. The version number is there.

I am not very good on computers and need help, I have lost past history emails when i have used hotmail on my new macbook, they say it is not set right but i do not understand! they say I need to ensure the box 'save a copy to the server' is ticked but they can not help me locate this and I have no idea what to do, can anyone talk me through this please?
Check your mail preferences. The example below is from the mail app that comes with mac. In my case I'm using yahoo mail which is a POP3 account. POP stands for post office protocol which is the set of rules used by a POP mail account to transfer mail. You can learn more about it here if interested. If the box below is checked, all the mail will be downloaded to your computer when you check your mail using the built in mail app and removed from the mail server. Here is another page to help you set up your hotmail account for use the the mac mail application. Hope this clears things up.

So I brought my Mac book pro retina to Apple to fix a glitch. The Technician called me and told me to come back it up before he does anything else. So I go pick it up and bring it home to find out the whole computer had be factory reset. I was pissed cuz why should I have bothered to pick it up if he already wiped the memory he told me to come back up. So i bring it back and complain to them but they obviously can't bring back that information once it's been factory reset. I also can't sue them for their f-up cuz you sign a stupid piece of paper that says if they f-up and lose any memory that its your fault for not backing it up. Anyways this poses a huge problem for me because I have now lost all my Adobe programs. I download the suit online instead of getting a disk because this mac has no cd port and at the time I didn't have an external one. Not sure what email I used to buy the program with either....I also don't think posting this in a forum will help either but adobe only gave me that option as a form of help....it doesn't help if i need to directly talk to someone in their company. I really don't wanna have to buy the program over again cuz who has the money to buy a several hundred dollar program twice? I know I don't.

I can't shut down my computer because it says mail is open. It says to close mail and continue shut down. Problem is I can't open or close mail now. Can't shut down my computer at all. What can I do?
If you cannot get mail to quit/force quit, you can always remove power from your Mac.
NOTE: removing power is a bad idea, and can result in data loss, but sometimes it is the only thing left to do.
Press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds, and the Mac will power off.
When you power back on, the Mac should reboot.
