Thick black outlines on .swf in interactive .pdf

When viewing an interactive .pdf with a .swf embedded file, all the elements of the animation appear with a think black outline on some windows machines.
Anyone else have this issue?

Placing a SWF into InDesign, and creating an interactive PDF is a bad hack, or as my friend Sandee Cohen said yesterday, a "kludge."
Those of us who were initially excited about the idea have concluded that it's just not a good idea. The SWF file becomes like a movie file, and you have absolutely no controls over it.

  • Thin Black Border on Video in Interactive PDF (Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional)

    Hi
I am having issues with embedded video in an interactive pdf (currently using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional).
I have placed my media mp4 file in the pdf. I would like the video to have no border, so I proceeded to Multimedia Properties to edit the Appearance and set the Border Type to Invisible Rectangle. I also editted the Playback settings for the Rendition to keep the player open "Forever once activated." But every time I view pages in my interactive pdf with video there is still a thin black border surrounding the videos on initial play. If I have already viewed the video and come back to the page, the border dissapears.
Is there a way to ensure the thin black border/outline never appears in the pdf, even when first opening and viewing the file? Does this have to do with the Acrobat 8 in particular? Please let me know if you are also encountering this problem or have a solution.

Thank you so much for your help.
I am now working in Adobe Acrobat X Pro and have embedded the same video. The borders have disappeared.
I have set the video activation settings to enable when "The page containing the content is opened". When the page is opened, I am now seeing a grey box (the size of the video) flash before the video is played. Do you know of a way to not have the grey box appear before the video plays? Or is there even a way to edit the color of this box so it is a less noticeable transition in my documet? I assume this is some sort of default setting to be displayed when the video loads. Any suggestions regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Please help -- SHADOWS APPEAR as BLACK OUTLINES when I EXPORT to PDF

    Hi all,
I have designed a product catalog in InDesign. I retouched product in PS and dropped an "outer glow" and "drop shadow" Layer Style onto the products and saved them with a transparent background in a .PSD format. The files were then Placed into the InDesign document.
The pages print just as they appear when I print from InDesign, however, I would like to be able to email this document out to retailers, but when I Export as a PDF, the images with shadows appear as if they are stroked with a sloppy/irregular black line in place of the shadows...
    Please help me resolve.
Could it be due to the compression?
    Thoughts? Alternatives?
    Thanks so much,
    Andrew

    Bob,
I'm sorry for the delayed reply.
Here is the catalog I designed.  If you flip through it, you will see that some of the t-shirts have this black outline in place of the "outer glow effect"
    I am using CS3.
    My workflow was this:
Brought photo into PS > masked out background > deleted selected to Transparent background > Placed graphic in new layer over Tshirt image > Saved file as TIFF > Placed TIFF into InDesign document > Export InDesign document to PDF
    Thoughts?

  • How to place swf in Interactive PDF below other objects/frames

    Hello there,
My first post here , I hope one can help.
I want to make a PDF with some text/content on top, and swf animation in the background - below content.
So I place SWF file into InDesign, bring it to the layer below texts, then I make spread preview. Works great, I have a nice photos in the background changing one to another [swf animation] and on the top texts about these photos.
Then I export it to interactive PDF and it just doesn't work this way. Animation displayes always on top, covering content.
Is there a way to have a movie in Interactive PDF covered partially by some other elements or it will be always on top, and to achieve this effect I need to export my inDesign project to SWF?
    Best regards,

  • Analytics in InDesign SWF or Interactive PDF

I am starting to add video to a SWF newsletter that I make. Is there a way to track how many people view the embedded video?
If there is does it work with the Interactive PDF option too?

Don´t place your FLV directly to indesign. Place it to Flash Professional, add tracking code there with ActionScript and export whole thing as SWF. Then place that SWF to indesign.
If you have audio track in your video, you probably face some issues with hanging sound. You can solve that problem by creating separate killAudio swf snippet in Flash and place it in next and previous spreads with video.... use soundMixer.stopAll(); code in it....
Here´s a sample where customized video player made in Flash is in use, dummy magazine is exported from indesign:

  • SWF and interactive PDF

    Good afternoon all,
I have created a 3 page swf brochure (as I would like to maintain the interactive page curl) and inserted onto the first page of an indesign document with 2 pages.  The second page is an interactive form created in indesign with text fields and a "Submit form" button.  I have then exported the whole document to an interactive pdf.
What I would like is for the user to be able to click on a button on the last page of the swf and it take them to the form which is essentially the 2nd page of the pdf document (although it looks like the 4th page).
Is there anyway of of doing this please so that the user can continue to interactively click through the pages as opposed to using adobe to move to the "second page" please?
Apologies if this doesn't make sense.
    Best regards, Claire.

Thank you for your reply Folobo.
I have created an indesign 3 paged Ipad sized brochure which I exported to swf (mainly because of the page curling).  I have also created an interactive form - in indesign again - which enables users to submit their details to my email address through the form.  I didn't include the form within the swf (which would have been perfect) as it appears the interactivity in an swf doesn't stretch to entering text fields (not sure if this is correct but it didn't work when I tested it).
I then created another indesign document with 2 pages (1 to place the swf and 1 to hold the form so that I could then export as an interactive pdf).  I was hoping that I could somehow link the final page of the swf with the 2nd page of the pdf (essentially the 4th page of the brochure) so that the reader could "flick" through as opposed to having to select the 2nd page of the pdf from the toolbar.
    Hope this is clearer?

  • Black outline imported SWF

I was given a SWF file of an animation that was created a few years ago. When I import the SWF file into After Effects CC, I get a black square with a black circle in the middle that moves in and out of the animation.
I think the animator was using camera movement in Flash, because the black circle and outline follows certain objects as they move across the scene. Also, when I play back the original SWF file, there is a virtual camera that occasionally pans across an image that is larger than the frame. In the imported file in After Effects, I only see the initial part of that image in the frame, which remains stationery while just the black square and circle outline moves across the frame.
Would this be corrected if the original Flash movie was exported to SWF in a newer version of Flash? Or is this just a limitation of After Effects CC's SWF importer?

The import of SWF files into After Effects is very limited and is only intended to be used for flattened, simple movies.
Here's the excerpt from After Effects Help that most likely explains why you're only seeing some animation preserved in After Effects:
"Interactive content and scripted animation are not retained. Animation defined by keyframes in the main, top-level movie is retained."

  • Interactive PDF with .swf issues

    Hi,
Currently I am a graduating Senior in college and am trying to put together a PDF Portfolio for a few events and job applications. I had created a full page animation within InDesign CS5, and exported to a .swf.
When I place the .swf into the document, it is at full page size. However when I export the file an Interactive PDF, the animation appears with a one inch white margin around the full page animation.
I had gotten the animation to work once before, but unfortunately I forgot the process and cannot locate the tutorial online...and still being in school revisions (and due dates) are approaching. The settings for both the .swf and Interactive PDF are left to their default settings when I export them.
    Thanks for the help!

    Did you resolve this?
I'm having the same problem and can't fathom out how to correct it.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

  • InDesign Interactive PDF/SWF/HTML

In InDesign, I'm trying to make it so an object (rectangular frame) moves down the page as you scroll as a .swf/html/interactive pdf (like the menu bar on the left here: http://peeltheorange.com/#what-we-do) THANKS!

It can't be done in InDesign, as far as I can tell. Definitely not possible in interactive PDF. Might be possible in a SWF but not from InDesign. You'd have to be a Flash Professional guru do to it in SWF perhaps. Most likely to accomplish in HTML, but NOT from InDesign. Time to go for Dreamweaver or Muse.

  • Persistent thick black selection outline on screen

I have a sort of permanent thick black outline around selected widgets on the current window. If the outline is for a text entry box then it sometimes stays in the one place on the screen as I scroll the page. It is quite annoying.
This only occurs for one user account on the machine the other is fine. I am not sure what caused it but I suspect it might have been a virtual desktop application called Desktop Manager. I have stopped using that app but the visual problem still occurs. I have no idea how to cure this problem without removing the user account and recreating it.
This seems to be some sort of configuration thing but I am new to Macs and have no idea how to find what is causing this.
    MacBook with osx 10.4.10.

That was it! Thanks. I had a look at those settings but "voiceover" didn't suggest a thick black highlight to me.
    Most appreciated.

  • Black outline around whole screen

My imac recently began to display a thick black outline around the screen, about a half inch on the sides, a little less on top and bottom. Any ideas?

    Hi Ionmore,
This black line do you see this only on your desktop ??

  • How can I make the SWF page in my interactive PDF keep the page change on-click

    Hi there,
I'm creating an interactive PDF presentation for a client, and I've spent some time learning how to animate the text for certain slides, export to SWF and place that SWF back in the InDesign file. I then export to an interactive PDF to display in full screen mode. The problem I'm having is that I can cycle forward through the PDF slides by clicking until I reach the SWF page, but then the hand cursor changes to an arrow and I can't move the presentation forward in full screen mode.
I'm sure there's an easy fix, I just can't work it out. I'd be really grateful for any help.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

Bob: it will be a PDF presentation fed from a laptop to a large display screen with about 50 slides (1920px x 1080px) to support a speaker (person). Most of the slides are static text or image slides, but where we want images to fade in/out we've created an SWF and dropped it into that page in InDesign.
Trevor: Many thanks, just checked that and those settings are correct.
Jeffrey: I just tried your advice but the problem remains.
The strange thing is that if I press enter each time the slides (pages) move forward properly, but any touch on the mouse and the whole thing won't move... I'm going to look to see if I can drop in other video formats instead.

  • SWF files in InDesign for export as Interactive PDF

I am creating an interactive PDF file which contains a multi-state slide show with navigation buttons that I created in InDesign. Since that will not display and "work" in an interactive PDF I exported a .swf file of the slide show to place in the final InDesign page layout. The interactive PDF works just fine when viewed in Acrobat, but the .swf file of the slide show moves around and changes scale depending on the view scale in Acrobat so that it no longer stays where it was intended in the InDesign layout. I suspect that I exported the .swf slide show from the InDesign file incorrectly but I can't figure out what the peoblem is.

What version of InDesign? Is it fully patched?
There was a bug in the initial release of CS5 that caused this type of behavior but it was fixed in a dot release.

  • Interactive pdf with movies/swf files doesn't work in up-to-date Acrobat Reader

Hi, I've a CS6 InDesign doc with movies (MP4's from a URL) and a few swf files. When exporting as an interactive pdf, all the links, movies, swf's work fine in my Acrobat Pro. They work fine on other peoples PC's with Acrobat Pro. But on all my clients PC's with up to date Reader, the movies are playing slow, and the pdf just doesn't work as expected. With links to next page etc not working either. They have up dated their Flash Player too. Still not working well.
Is there a magic fix? Can I re-save this pdf differently so they can experience all the interactive features properly?
I created a similar pdf last year from CS5, but adding in the movies & links on the pdf. Do I have to do this again?
Yours, mostly quite fed uply, Gina !

Is it possible that your client's PC is just a very slow machine? You might consider cutting out some of the interactivity if your PDF is to complex to be handled by less powerful machines.
