Thick line through page text Ubuntu 12.04 FF 14.0.1

Using Ubuntu 12.04, FireFox 14.0.1
When displaying web pages there is a 'thick line' through page text. Unable to take a snapshot, the distortion disappears. This also happens if I reload the page. If I scroll up/down the distortion comes
back.
I uninstalled FF, rebooted and re-installed. The problem is still there.
It appears that not every site displays the problem. Also, I tried Chromium and the problem is not
there. Using Chromium is not the answer for me, I would rather continue to use Firefox.
I am hoping to get some suggestions or a fix.

Does it seem related to scrolling? Here are some suggestions for dealing with display aberrations:
Could you try turning off a few Firefox settings. I'm not sure whether you need all of these, but no single one seems to solve the issue for everyone.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for these changes to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > "Browsing" section
Uncheck the first 3 boxes:
# Use autoscrolling
# Use smooth scrolling
# Use hardware acceleration when available
If you OK that and restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?

  • How do I eliminate text with black lines through the words

I am using Firefox 14.0.1 on Linux Ubuntu 11.04.
I am getting black lines through the text on some web sites. Mostly Google. How do I eliminate the lines.

A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

  • Inserting lines through words (Strikethrough?)

How do you insert a horizontal line through a word?  I remember once finding a way, but I've forgotten how I did it. I have been seeing soliutions using Word or other word processing programs, but it seems to me that the solution I found was much simplier and easier to use, like using FORMAT. I'm not interested in short-cut methods using keyboard combinations`. I never use them because I find that they're impossible to remember.

And for those of you wanting to put a red line through black text in HTML, here is the result. If you try this in the Apple Support Community, it will get set to black strike.
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <head>
              <meta charset="utf-8">

    <p>This is a simple test of <strike style="color:red;"><span style="color:black;">line-through</span></strike> in a word using a black span nested inside a red strike.</p>
    <p>And, this is another <span style="color:red;text-decoration:line-through"><span style="color:black">line-through</span></span> example using a black span nested within a red, line-through span.</p>

  • My Pages 09 document has circles with a diagonal line through it

My Pages 09 document has circles with a diagonal line through it (like a Do Not symbol) scattered across 14 pages. They appear to be dimmed and I can't select or click on them.  I think they might be related to previous figures or text boxes that I have since deleted.  Any advice about how to remove them?
    Thanks

  • How Do I Draw a Circle / Line Through An Image In Pages?

    Hi guys,
I never do anything very involved in Pages but today ...
I have an image (jpeg file) and I would like to draw a circle around it and a line through it -- you know, turn it into one of those International "Don't Do This" signs.
    Is there an easy way?
    Thanks
    I'm using Pages '09 version 4.1

Insert a round Shape and give it a very thick border with equally thick line (also in Shapes) diagonally across the circle.
To add the image just drag it onto the shape and when you positioned it the way you like it, group the two.

  • I have the newest version of FF but every single page shows lines through ALL the links!!!! How can I get this turned off - so annoying! Might have to go back to IE :(

Every single page I go to has lines through a link - what is causing this? I have Google Chrome and I do not have any problems with them! PLEASE HELP!!

Sounds like an extension, theme, or style
Are you sure it is all links as opposed to only visited, no-follow links, or unvisited links

Some searches to check out with Google to help you identify the culprit
    site:userstyles.org/styles/ -inurl:browse links strike OR strike-out OR cross-out
    site:addons.mozilla.com -inurl:collection links strike OR strike-out OR cross-out
another reason might be that Mozilla and Google use colors that make
marking links as visited/unvisited difficult to see.

  • Straight line through all the page

    Hi everybody!
How can I make a straight and thin line through all the page, under my logo?
I need the line to go from one to the other side of the page without interruption.
I created an image in Photoshop: I drew my logo and the line under it. I gave to the line the same width of the DW default window (1099 px).
Then I import the image as a .png with transparency, because it has to overlap every element in my web page.
I put it out of the main container and gave it a "relative" position, but then, both live view and browser preview are different: the line moves left or right, I can't control its position...
What is the easier and best way to create this graphic layout?
    Thank you.

    This is my screen.
Now the logo and the line are part of the same .png image. But I can't give it the right fixed position on the page.
I try to follow your instructions...
Sorry if I can't explain very well, but I'm new with this program (and sorry for my english too)!

  • Pages --- picture prints with a line through it

I copied pictures into a Pages document and everything looks good on the screen. When I print it, a line shows up where an "alignment guide" would be showing guides at object center.
It is very light but also very noticeable on the paper. When on the screen it only show up when I move the picture around. When moving on the screen it was blue and I changed the alignment guide color to red to confirm that it is the alignment guide.
I've checked the show guides at center, guides at edges, and had neither guides checked. When moving pictures on the screen these have the expected impact. BUT the light line shows up on the printed page at the center location for all three options.

    A bit more information:
    - The line is sort of colorless. Only on screen when moving about was it blue or red after I changed it.
    - The doc has 3 pictures. The one with the line through it (under my wife's nose) doesn't seem to go on to the picture next to it. Almost as though a power greater than I was tweaking my wife.
    - My last attempt is to have alignment turned off and the third picture is the last to moved. It includes some buildings and signs with horizontal lines. When printed no lines are visible on this third picture. Unfortunately, I now get a couple vague lines, lighter than prints that go this thing going, still in the first picture with the wife and grand kid. Seems like this also takes the printer out of the equation because the lines move.
This is to be copied as a Christmas letter which will probably make the lines even harder to see, so I'm hoping that it will pass the wife's muster. I'm going to give up for now though will check back to see if any other ideas show up.
Thanks much for your attention and help!

  • Thick black line through iPad 1- will screen replacement work?

There is a 2 inch black line through the width of my iPad 1. iPad is out if warranty and apple genius told me the only fix would be to buy another one. Could I fix this issue through replacing the LCD screen? Any suggestions would help.

Might. Might not. Could be part of the backlight is bad. Could be the equivalent of the graphics card is bad.
Dunno how much your screen replacement is but you may want to weigh that cost against it not working and you paying and still not having a functioning device.

  • Yellow/green lines through Photos and sometimes on color headlines

Hi All.  Would like to know if anyone out there knows how to fix my problem.  I have an HP OfficeJet 8500 all in one printer/scanner/fax.  I do newsletters for a non profit org with photos and colored headlines.  I am now getting a yellow-light green line through all photos and sometimes headlines.  Mostly in the headlines its the underline..instead of being maroon which its supposed to be, its yellow/green.  On the same page that a photo is on, the text box next to it is fine!  I have done all the printer alignment, cleaning printhead, etc.  These printheads are new.  Only installed them about a month ago and haven't done that much printing.  If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.  I need to do a newsletter and now I have two printers that aren't working!
    HELP!  Thanks so much.  Pat

I think I found the answer to my own problem.  Maybe it can help someone later.  Since I figured this might be a print head problem and I had just installed new print heads, I thought maybe one of them might be clogged.  So, I put the print head into a ziploc bag and shook it a few times.  I only do one at a time because it sprays ink.  I then got another bag and put the other print head into it and shook it.  Replaced them back into the printer and it worked!!!  My yellow green lines are gone and now it works fine.  I had purchased these print heads on E-Bay about a year ago and had them here just in case I needed them.  Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but, maybe from sitting so long, they clogged.  Just a guess.  But, this worked and if anyone else has this problem, its worth a try.

  • Aligning lines between pages in InDesign CS5

    Hi all,
After many  fruitless hours of Googling, I'm really, really hoping to find some help  here with a small InDesign CS5 issue I'm having. I'll try and keep this  brief.
I'm currently designing a book in InDesign CS5  that has chapters that run one after the other. Whereas in most books a  new chapter will start on a new page, here they flow together. For each  chapter heading, I'm using a font called Orial, size 18. For the main  text, I'm using Adobe Garamond Pro, size 12. When I have two solid pages  of 12 point Adobe Garamond Pro, all is well. The alignment of lines on  both pages are level with one another. That's just what I want.
However,  if I have a double page spread and one of the pages has an 18pt Orial  title on it (within all the 12pt Adobe Garamond Pro), this throws things  out of whack, as you can see in the image below:
As you can see, the lines on page 79 are not level with those on page 78. Is there any way around this?
Many, many thanks for any help you can offer. I'm rather tearing my hair out here!

Hm, I'm afraid I'm still encountering problems here. I'll talk through what I've done so far using Josh's excellent guide:
(I should note at the start that my text frames are all linked to one another, and I am using paragraph styles).
Firstly, I checked 'Grids in Back' was switched off (thanks ghf232):
Secondly, I turned on the following:
View -> Screen Mode -> Normal
View -> Extras -> Show Frame Edges
View -> Grids -> Show Baseline Grid
My document now looked like this:
Then I highlighted all text with Ctrl+A:
And next I hit the 'Align to baseline grid' button:
    This resulted in the following:
Next, I went to Preferences -> Grids and changed 'Increment Every' option to 1.5:
    Alas, the lines remained uneven:
I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious. If anybody couldhelp, I'd be hugely grateful. Thanks again all.

  • Pages text boxes

I just wanted to have a plain sheet of paper to type a letter with drag and drop icons. I chose Pages, word processing, blank sheet. I now have little boxes with plus signs, I can't move the text, I can't control the cursor. I am using Pages '08 on a MBP 10.6.8. Thank you for help. Arudi

    PeterBreis0807
    Thank you for your response.
I have all objects, no text, four objects per line, four lines per page.
I started putting words under the objects with the text boxes, then deleting the text boxes. Then the small boxes with the plus sign (⊞) appeared. They seem to be connected with the larger text box.
I can delete them if I put them in a box and click delete. The problem is, I can't get the boxes off the text, and if I click delete, it also deletes the text.
I would like to get rid of the boxes all together.
I watched the Pages tutorial but it didn't mention the box problem. I looked through many discussions, but saw nothing about this.
I looked for help on 'HELP' but nothing.
For the last year I have used Pages for a 150 page project and had no boxes, so I must have done something different.
If I click on the blank page, the cursor is not there unless I click in a certain spot. I have to click around before I find the spot, or the boxes come up in certain spots.
I copy and pasted all the objects onto a new 'pages layout' to see if it was different. I can't get a cursor or box anywhere. The objects pasted okay but no cursor so I can add text.
I unclicked 'object causes wrap' but it changed nothing. I never put anything on top of anything esle.
Thank you for you time. Arudi

  • L7680 Horizontal white lines through black/gray only

HP OfficeJet Pro L7680, Windows 7
Getting white horizontal lines through black or gray text and graphics.
The Print Quality Diagnostics Page results are:
    Test pattern 1 looks fine
Test pattern 2 has white horizontal lines on the black and gray blocks. The color blocks look fine.
Test pattern 3 has white horizontal lines spaced 0.87 inches apart. They do not line up with the arrows.
I have run the Align Printer, Clean Printhead (three times) and Calibrate Linefeed functions and the problem still remains the same.
