Thin-client uses a RESTful Web Service

Hello everyone!
Once I've develop a few web services, it's time to "consume" them. I'm trying to develop a thin-client in JAVA (with the netbeans ide) but I haven't found the best way to do it.
So, which is the best way to create a LabVIEW RESTful webservice?
Obviously, JAVA is an option, how about create a client with another VI?
Greetings!

1) Are you trying to create a RESTful web service in LabVIEW?
or
2) Are you wondering about creating a thin client to consume the web service?
A1) Web Services in LabVIEW
A2) LabVIEW WebUI Builder  You can create a VI to act as a client for your web services, but not a thin client (i.e. running in the browser)

  • Is it possible to add a user using the RESTful Web Services SDK

    Others have asked before about user management features in the RESTful Web Services SDK.  However I can find no answers or links which provide an answer to the question 'Is it possible to add a user using the BI 4.1 SP2 RESTful Web Services SDK'?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Steve
    Unfortunately, not possible. The BI RESTful can only get "stuff" that is already there. I suppose this would fall under some sort of "Object Creation" API and that is not there. Yet. Rumors abound, but nothing firm. Just as a BTW.; the Business Intelligence platform RESTful Web Service Developer Guide 4.1 is here:

  • RIDC client using JAX-WS Web Service requires OWSM policy

    Hi
    For development purposes, I want to invoke the RIDC JAX-WS Web Service (I believe this to be the 11g idc native ws) but an error is thrown stating the various policies are invalid. The fact is my instance of Weblogic is not set up with OWSM and there are no security policies applied or configured.
    I was wondering if there was a way to invoke this web service using http basic authentication and bypass the requirement to have a policy attached.
    If not, does anyone have steps on how to enable OWSM and policies, and attach these to the IDC native web services).
    Thanks
    M

    Hi Ryan
    Yes, I have tried to use the JAX-WS with configuration that I was hoping would set Basic Auth on the request, however an error is thrown stating that the required policies are invalid on the server.
    In summary:
    I create a JaxWSClient client.
    I create a binder using the client.
    I create a IdcContext using a valid username and password.
    I set up the service details and params in the binder.
    I send the request by invoking the client and passing the binder and IdcContext.
    With this basic set-up, I get a SOAP fault from the server stating that policy 'oracle/no_authentication_service_policy' and oracle/no_messageprotection_service_policy are invalid. It makes sense that there are invalid as they are not present on my weblogic instance, and it seems that because I have not specified any other configuration, that these are treated as the default policies.
    Setting up basic auth would be ideal, as I do not have control of the Weblogic instances, and so getting OWSM would be a pain. There may be some way to set up the client to use Basic Auth, but unfortunately I cannot see how.
    Cheers

  • Details on how to use the RESTful Web Services SDK

    Hello,
    this sounds really interesting for an important use case we're currently developing. Unfortunately, I am not a skilled developer and would therefore need to know two more things:
    1) in the beginning, it says ''assumes that there are no parameter values that need to be set'. Is this a core restriction or just to keep things simpel for this example? For our specific use case, we would need to at least transmit a report name and an execution date (which is not necessarily always equal to 'today')
    2) can we have the PDF sent to a Netweaver App Server?  Can the target location there be parameterized somehow?
    3) I understzand that there's also the Open Doc interface that could achieve similar features. Could you please elaborate which are the differences in the two approaches, maybe even pros and cons?
    Thanks
    Philipp

    Hi Philipp,
    1) This is just to keep things simple for the example
    2) You would need to first send the PDF to a file system, and then have a separate process to send it to the Netweaver App Server.  There isn't built-in integration to the Netweaver App Server.
    3) Stated simply:
    OpenDocument allows you to reference content via a single URL, best used for embedding content in your web page or application.   Pro:  Simplest Option  Con: Less power than REST API
    The REST API allows you to manipulate report objects in Web Intelligence and do things like set datasource and create report scheduling jobs.  Pro: More Power and Flexibility  Con: Requires knowledge of programming with REST APIs.

  • Can we use REST web service as Data source in SSRS? !!!!NOT SOAP!!!!

    Hello,
    We have requirement to use the REST web service as the Data source of SSRS.  Tried with XML as Data Source, but unfortunately I could not succeed because the query expects SOAPAction which is not available in REST Service.
    Do we have any option to use REST Service, if so please provide some basic example, so that I can try out some options.
    If not, do we have any alternate solutions to handle these situations?
    Thanks!
    Vinay

    Hi Vinay.
    After looking on it for some time, I am afraid currently there is no document to talk on how to use the REST web service as a data source.
    You can use the link
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/aa964129(v=SQL.90).aspx for a renference.
    From a support perspective currently this is really beyond what we can do here in the forums. If you cannot determine your answer here or on your own, consider opening a
    support case with us. Visit this link to see the various support options that are available to better meet your needs:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=fh;en-us;offerprophone

    does.
    ConsumerClient.java is like:
    while(true){

    i understood the problem. yes we are using http header to pass

    to subscribe to JMS topics. I cant think of any other way to do
    this. if you have any suggestions, i very much like to hear it.
    for your application is it possible to use queues instead of topics?
    we do not use http session information in the case of JMS queues.

    Your sample code is basically same as mine. It would also lose messagespublished

    I figured out what's going on. Undocumented by BEA, the web servicesends JMS
    session ID in HTTP header along with first message. When client makessubsequent
    calls to "receive", this ID must be sent back. I found this by usinga SOAP trace
    tool.
    Unfortunately, MS SOAP toolkit doesn't support access to HTTP header.So one has
    to use MS XML toolkit to use message-style web service, when writingMS clients.

    I think the problem is because the WSDL for the message style
    web service use xsd:anyType as the return type and MS soap is
    not able to understand it. can you pls modify the xsd:anyType to
    xsd:string (or someother base type) in the WSDL.
    SC.mssoapinit can load wsdl stored as a local file. so it should
    be easy to make this change.

  • HTTP error when trying to access RESTful web service from application

    Hi,
    We are getting the following error when trying to access a RESTful web service coming from Apex workspace 4.2.1 and Apex listener 2.1:
    ORA-29273: HTTP request failed ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1130 ORA-29024: Certificate validation failure
    In the Debug report, besides the above I also see:
    error_backtrace: ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1130 ORA-06512: at "APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_WEB_SERVICES", line 543 ORA-06512: at "APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_WEB_SERVICES", line 1164 ORA-06512: at "APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_PROCESS", line 396
    We get that error whether we use https or http in the URI pointing to the web service. When I test the Web Service in Workspace RESTful service GUI, I get the data back. When I go build an application with a report calling the RESTful Web Service I get that error. Both the Application and the Workspace RESTful services are on the same Apex environment and even the same workspace.
    What is odd is that I can actually put the URL of the web service into a browser and I get the data: (using the demo hr data in sample RESTful services.)

    Any ideas on what would be causing the Error above in our application?

    Edited by: patfmnd on Mar 11, 2013 3:25 PM
    In reviewing the above error, I think we are realizing that we have to have the Weblogic layer SSL cert (actually the CERT from our BigIP load balancer which also does our SSL termination) imported into the Oracle server wallet where Apex is installed. Am I correct?
    PM

    We resolved our problem. The Apex Administrative Guide made us realize that we had to set up Wallet path in the Instance. This required working with DBAs to follow the Advanced networking guide to get the wallet set up on our server. We then added that path to the Instance configuration. (Manager Instance --> Instance settings). We ran into another other issue related to our implementation of CAS but were able to resolve that, and 'voila' were able to get the sample RESTful service consumed by our application!!
    Now to the task of figuring out how to get Basic Auth working between client application and RESTful web service. If anyone has that working, let us know!!
    It would be helpful if in the documentation of the Apex 2.x listener or Apex install/configuration there was clear reference to the above steps required for HTTPS access to RESTful web services.

  • REST Web Service References: Can't run Google APIS

    Hello Everyone!
    I am learning on how to integrate REST web service reference in APEX application. I found a tutorial video at YouTube on 'Creating and Using a RESTful Web Service in Application Express 4.2', which found to be very helpful and easy to do on my sample app. The REST Web Service URL:
    http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=san%20fancisco&sensor=false
    But my application throws an error as below:
    1 error has occurred
    ORA-29273: HTTP request failed ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1130 ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list (ACL)
    After going through some of the posts here at OTN, I have granted access as follows:
    GRANT EXECUTE ON SYS.UTL_HTTP TO ETI;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON SYS.UTL_INADDR TO ETI;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON SYS.UTL_TCP TO ETI;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON SYS.UTL_SMTP TO ETI;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON SYS.UTL_URL to ETI;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON SYS.UTL_XML to ETI;
    Second thing I did was, created and assigned ACL:
    begin
      dbms_network_acl_admin.create_acl (
        acl         => 'googleapis.xml',
        description => 'Google Translate API',
        principal   => 'CONNECT',
        is_grant    => true,
        privilege   => 'connect',
        start_date  => null,
        end_date    => null
      dbms_network_acl_admin.add_privilege (
        acl       => 'googleapis.xml',
        principal => 'CONNECT',
        is_grant  => true,
        privilege => 'connect'
      dbms_network_acl_admin.assign_acl (
        acl  => 'googleapis.xml',
        host => 'ajax.googleapis.com'
      dbms_network_acl_admin.assign_acl (
        acl  => 'googleapis.xml',
        host => 'maps.googleapis.com'
    end;
    All these statements were executed on my database with out any error, even though not helping my web service reference to work.
    Any idea how can I get my Google API REST Web service working, what is the thing I'm missing here?

    I apologize for the lack of information.
    I thought I had included a list of schemas for you to try out.
    At first, (due to the GRANT ___ TO ETI;) I thought you were writing your own Web Service parser in PL/SQL.
    (If that was the case, than ETI would need be part with the ACL)
    Then, I realized,you were using the built in APEX functionality.
    In this case, try adding your APEX_{version} schema as part of the ACL.
    I'm not sure if this will work (I haven't tried it).
    However, I do know you need to add the APEX_{version} to the ACL if you use the LDAP Authentication.
    finding APEX_{version}
    select comp_id, version, status, schema
    from dba_registry
    where comp_id='APEX'

  • How to use RESTful Web Services provided from BO Enterprise

    Hi Experts,
    i am trying to use the Web Service "BIPLATFORM" provided by BusinessObjects Enterprise. As I have trouble reading the WSDL i tried to use the REST interface.
    Unfortunatally I cannot find any Docu about that in the internet.
    Does anybody have experience in using the BIPLATFORM web service?
    Thank you in advance

    Thank you very much for your instant answer and help!
    I got it now: "no rest in biplatform service"
    What made me think REST is possible was only the following entry in ...\webapps\dswsbobje\WEB-INF\conf\axis2.xml
    "<!-- Our HTTP endpoints can handle both REST and SOAP. Following parameters can be used to distinguiush those endpoints
      -->
    - <!-- In case of a servlet, if you change this you have to manually change the settings of your servlet container to map this
      -->
    - <!-- context path to proper Axis2 servlets
      -->
    - <!-- <parameter name="servicePath">services</parameter>

    - <!--  Following parameter will completely disable REST handling in Axis2
      -->
      <parameter name="disableREST" locked="true">false</parameter>
    - <!-- POJO deployer , this will alow users to drop .class file and make that into a service
      -->
    Anyway I was only hoping to get REST work as the WSDL provided by BusinessObjects Enterprise is not valid to be parsed by SAP Netweaver ABAP SOAP Runtime...
    I regret but i have to add: The fact that the web service is only meant to work with certain consumers shows that the people responsible have little to no understanding what the idea of SOAP, SOA and WSDL really is. On the one hand SAP was always pushing their ESOA idea but on the other hand we got this strange limitations like "only for these clients..."
    This is exactly the opposite of the SOAP-idea:

  • REST web service using PL/SQL

The article (http://ora-00001.blogspot.com/2009/07/creating-rest-web-service-with-plsql.html) mentioned is a very good one (if not only I like what the site has become in recent years - much good tips and articles). As an alternative for your problems, have a look at the explaination of how Tim Hall has done it...
