Things aren't installing

Recently swapped hard drives do to failure in old one. OS installed fine. Error occurs when installing updates and App disk. Internet is extremely slow. Things are crashing. Should I reinstall?

Not quite sure how to do that. I tried a few different options as far as the hard drive goes. Everything is just buggy. When I try to download something, Safari crashes.

  • Safari and Leopard seeing fonts which aren't installed?

I'm having a problem in which Leopard seems to be seeing fonts which aren't installed.
I like to have my web pages display in Helvetica, and I'm pretty obsessive about cleaning out all of the places OS X and the various Adobe and Microsoft apps stash fonts. With Tiger and earlier this wasn't a problem, but Leopard seems to be doing something new. Specifically, Safari--and only Safari--shows that Georgia, Verdana and Times are installed and renders web pages with them, even though I have removed all of those fonts from my system.
I have double and triple checked to make sure none of those fonts are left on my drive. I searched for them, took all the instances I could find, zipped them, copied them onto a second hard drive and deleted the instances on my primary drive. Searching with Spotlight doesn't find them. I open Font Book and it doesn't see them. No other application shows the fonts as available. If I open up Fontexplorer it doesn't show those fonts as active or available, and I have used it to clear caches and restart. Yet if I go to Safari->Preferences->Appearance, the fonts show up as available, and only in Safari.
Does anyone know if Apple has made some change in Webkit/Safar, or do I have some old cache file sitting around? I did a Archive and Install, and preserved my user settings. Could there be a file hanging around I don't know about?

does it pre-load/pre-install fonts into your system you dont have or something???
It can't add software to your system that is not there somewhere already, but it will activate fonts no matter where they are for use by an app if the app requests the font. You can set it to ask you first before it does this.

  • I have got a lot of apps, which are not installed on any of my iDevices anymore. is there a possibility to remove all those apps from iTunes without searching which ones are, and which ones aren't installed on one of my iDevices?

Assuming all the device(s) have been synced to this computer as its Home computer. The easiest way would be to delete all the apps from iTunes. After which connect your device(s) to the computer (iTunes) and transfer purchases from the device(s) by right click (control click) the device name in the left sidebar and the click transfer purchases. When done only the apps on your device(s) will be in you iTunes library.
    Hope that helps

I just got a new I phone and it requires new software for my osx version 10.5.8 but the new software won't intall. It says I need the thing I'm installing to install it?

You need to contact Apple and order and purchase the next Upgrade Disk, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, install that and then update that to 10.6.8.  You didn't give enough information to know if you need to then Upgrade that to Mountain Lion 10.8 in the Mac App Store by purchasing that,  Or even IF your computer is capable of Upgrading to 10.8.
OS X Mountain Lion system requirements
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
    Hope this helps

  • Creative cloud installed yesterday things aren't working

moirai compositor was installed and working perfectly before my purchase of Creative cloud yesterday. NOW it won't work. I have uninstalled and then redownloaded.

My wife uses a similar machine. When things seem to go haywire I usually just reinstall the OS.
You can do this by putting the install disk in and following instructions, when you choose the hdd you will have the option to 'ARCHIVE AND INSTALL', this will not wipe out your data but WILL give you a brand new installation of the OS.
If that doesn't work -- save all your data on an ext. hdd and then reinstall, this time format hdd and reinstall OS X.
    Good Luck!

  • Horrible things happening after installing Mac OS X 10.6.6

After I installed the update, my computer began to freeze almost every other minute. It was horrible. It slowed down everything. All the apps would freeze. The beach ball of death as it is known would pop up almost everytime I did anything. Spotlight and the Dock were the worst.
I tried everything. I have finally reverted back to 10.6.5 and things seem to be working ok. Did everyone else have this problem?
I am not even sure that what I've done has fixed my issues. I love Apple products but this made me lose a lot of faith.

Jose, No one else seems to be reporting bad experiences so there is something defective in your system. My suggestions:—
    1 Repair permissions (Disk Utility)
2 Zap the pRAM (restart holding down option-command-P-R)
    3 DiskWarrior
    4 Back up, re-format, re-install

Just installed Solaris 10 on my hp laptop. Downloaded the available updates. After a reboot, there are still two listed to be installed 'after a reboot.' Rebooting again, I see the same thing. Suggestions?

    rpotala,
if you are trying to install OS X onto an erased disk or onto a newly formatted disk, and your Mac originally came from the factory with Lion or newer installed, then you will need Internet access to perform an OS X Internet Recovery.
If your Mac originally came from the factory with Snow Leopard or older installed, then you will need to install Mac OS X from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD that originally came in the box with your Mac.

  • Some things won't install

I'm having trouble installing certain things onto my computer. I just recently bought it from a friend who had OS 10.1.5 on it and he erased the entire hard drive and started it new for me. I've download Netscape, iTunes, Firefox, Windows Media player 9 (for mac OS X of course), quicktime and the newest version of AIM. So far the only programs that installed correctly are Netscape and Quicktime. The other programs give me error messages. Firefox says "Unable to verify "Firefox 1.5.0.4.dmg"." Media Player says "There is no application available to open "Windows Media.sitx"", and itunes says "Unable to verify "iTunes604.dmg"." Is there anything that anyone can think of to do?
This is kind of off topic but my internet is also kind of weird. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Restarting doesn't help it. I just let it sit for maybe 20 minutes and go back on and the internet will be working again. Maybe there is a networking setting that is wrong...? It's not the ISP because the other coputers connected don't have the problem.
Thank you for any help offered.
iMac G3   Mac OS X (10.1.x)   upgraded from OS 9

    1. The version of Mac OS X you have installed is too old to run Firefox. The compatible browsers for your system include Netscape, Internet Explorer, iCab, and Opera.
    2. Download StuffIt Standard as a dmg, and use it to extract the Windows Media Player application.
    3. iTunes 6.04 requires a newer version of Mac OS X. Use the Software Update pane of System Preferences to check for the latest version compatible with your system.

  • App Store prompts to update apps that aren't installed, with wrong AppleID

Alright folks,  I replaced a 3.5" HD in an iMac with a 2.5" SSD. To clone the data over to the new drive I used Carbon Copy Cloner.  A fine tool I must say.
They took the iMac back to the business and fired it up and have been using it except for a strange problem.
The App Store keeps prompting for updates to software that is not installed on their iMac, and it asks for my AppleID password.
Today it happened with Pixelmator.  I have Pixelmator on my MacBook Pro, I didn't install it on their iMac.  It is not present on their iMac. I did not sign in with my AppleID on their iMac either. There is no reason for my AppleID to show up on their iMac at all!!
    Steps we've taken.
Checked to see if the App Store is signed in under their AppleID.  It is signed in under their ID.
Signed out of the App Store and signed back in, same thing.
Restarted, redid steps 1 and 2.
Checked "Internet Accounts", "iCloud" and "App Store" in system preferences. My ID is not in any of these preference panes.
Please give me some advice!  Any idea where I should start?

Your Apple ID is encoded in OS X and any Mac App Store apps that you have bought. If you cloned your drive to the Mac, that is why your Apple ID is associated with that Mac. The Mac needs to be handled at this point as a 2nd hand Mac.
Preparing a 2nd Hand Mac for use -
You need to erase the HDD, reinstall the version of OS X that shipped from the factory on the Mac and then set it up as new with your own Apple ID.
User Linc Davis explains how a new owner can prepare a 2nd hand Mac for their own use.

  • Got a new computer and things aren't going so well...

I got a new computer over the weekend, built it and set it up and all, and then went to boot it up last night...
I got two more hard drives, and moved my two existing ones right into the new computer. I figured that I don't need to reinstall, since my configurations were exactly as I wanted. My old computer was a pentium 4-based computer (32-bit), and my new computer is an i7-based (an i7 930 on and EVGA X58 motherboard). The new computer is completely new, the only things in there from the old one are the two hard drives I moved over. I started off getting grub error 17. Tried changing some things around, eventually I got the fallback image to boot. Booting the normal one results in it waiting 10 seconds for the disk, not seeing it, then dropping me to an initrd prompt. Booting my windows 7 partition results in a BSOD after about 3 seconds. Isn't murphy's law great, making things difficult for me when I need to get doing some homework?
So, then I wondered if you can even move the drives over just like that, from the old to the new computer. Is the drastic change in hardware the source of my problems? Do I need to reinstall everything?
I don't want to reinstall, because that involves me spending 3 hours finding all the various programs and tidbits I've installed via pacman throughout the past two years, reinstalling windows, and then reinstalling my steam games and other stuff.
The computer POSTS, shows me the grub menu, and when I finally get onto the fallback image I have no network capabilities or files really.
I've Googled, gone through various wiki's throughout the past 3 hours....
    Help? Anyone? Please?
    Scott

My fstab is UUID based, and has been since I setup the system. It's ironic that way - I specifically did UUID to prevent this type of problem. My menu.lst is configured via UUID too.
I said that I had Googled and checked wikis so that someone didn't just post a lmgtfy of something of the like.
The problem for booting Arch up seems to be when it's trying to mount /home - it says "waiting 10 seconds for <UUID> disk" or something along those lines.
I had in my old system two hard drives:
1 SSD - has my arch linux partition on it and swap
1 Seagate Barracuda - has my /home partition and my W7 installation
And now I threw in two more 1TB WD caviar blacks...I have confirmed in the BIOS that all the drives are properly plugged in and working.
