Things that that don't work now

Since Leopard, my peripheral hard drive is not recognized by the computer when I turn it on; my Wacom graphics tablet doesn't work at all (I reinstalled the software), and I cannot sleep the computer because when it wakes up, there is no screen cursor so I have to shut down and then it is OK when I restart.

Here is my list of troubles since I installed Leopard:
1. Parallels is now faulty, including freezing, no shared folders etc.
2. Printing to a Colour Laser Duplex printer on a network - duplexing doesn't work
3. Printing to an HP Colour Laser printer attached via USB - printer hangs and requires a hard reset when an item is printed with the collate option box checked
4. Pages (iWork 08) freezes when I want to print something
5. iTunes sometimes plays garbled music (with the 7.5 update a song stopped playing mid stream)
6. NDAS network disk drive caused the system to hang. I had to plug it in as a USB drive, then it crashed and I had to use Disk Warrior to recover it (since Disk Utility Disk Repair runs kept reporting the problem was 'fixed' but was not). I now use it as a Time Machine drive (and so far so good)
7. Power Point just froze on me, I had to reboot (this happens often now)
8. Restart or shutdown sometimes hangs after the desktop clears. I often have to push the power button to force a shut down, particularly when some program goes unresponsive, and especially when force quit doesn't work
9. Disk Permissions repair takes a long time; the progress bar doesn't indicate any progress (ps none of the problems above are the result of bad disk permissions)
10. Mail - after the system wakes from sleep, my message bodies disappear. I have to quit mail and restart the application for the bodies to come back
11. iPhoto hangs so I avoid using the product now
12. I'm frequently asked for my keychain password (despite installing the update, and despite not having any keychain problems according to the keychain utility)
13. Overall, I restart the system 3 or 4 times a day to recover from software hangs (since many programs don't restart after a force-quit)
To be fair, Leopard seems to have resolved iDisk (MirrorAgent) hang issues under Tiger 10.4.10, and I do like many of the new features. But this is a productivity issue for me. I switched from Windows because of frustration from similar kinds of things. I can't afford the downtime and am seriously considering downgrading back to Tiger and waiting a few months for version 10.5.4 or 10.5.5 (which is about the number of cumulative updates I think it will take for Apple to resolve most of these issues). Sorry, but Leopard simply doesn't live up to all the hype.

Things in Martin Sitter's APTS Book that don't work.

As I go through the "Apple Pro Training Series Logic Pro/Express 7" book by Martin Sitter I'm finding a growing list of things that don't look or work like he says they should. I'm going to add to this list as I find them. Hopefully there are simple answers for these problems. I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong or if these features do not work in Express.
Problem 1. Page 51. Channel Strip settings do not look like those in the picture. I assume that's because Martin's showing Pro not Express, but he says on page 52 that, "...Fat EQ is not available to LE users...". That's true but alot more than that is not available. I don't have any setttings specifically for Conga.
Problem 2. (This is mentioned in another thread I started but for the sake of completeness I'll reiterate) Page 75. The Sample Editor does not open. I get an alert dialog when I have no track or a MIDI tracck selected. When I have selected a Audio track and try to open the Sample Editor window nothing happens.
Problem 3. Page 122. Dividing Audio Regions. Contrary to what's written, the Scissors Tool does not change to a crosshair when clicking and holding. The track does enter Solo Mode but I can't hear anything as I drag the tool.

the very first thing Matin Sitter said, "Drag the content of this DVD to your HD"! The book title is LOGIC PRO 7 and LE, it's "logic" that some functions are Pro only. Tired of replacements that don't work!!!

I am on my 3rd replacement of a 4th generation 20gb ipod, originally purchased in August, 2004. Each replacement has had either a bad hard drive, a malfunctioning click wheel or some other problem which I have now forgotten. I received my last replacement TODAY. The hard drive was extremly slow to be recognized by my computer, and repeatedly stops when songs are uploading, with several loud clicks coming from the hard drive. It has now locked up and won't do anything. I can't even turn it off!!
The previous replacement stopped functioning after only 1.5 months. Since I live over 20 miles from the nearest Apple store, it is very inconvienient for me to continue to go back and forth to pick up replacements that don't work. I asked the manager at my local store if I could trade up to something new that might work. I realize that I would have to pay some addition cash, but that seems like the only way I can get an ipod that works!!! The refurbished ones just don't.
Anyone else have a similar problem and got a satisfactory resolution? If so, please post and let me know what you did.

i purchased my 40gb click wheel ikpod in february 05. it operated fine until july, then the screen froze. i mailed apple, who courier collected it, and replaced with another 40gb click wheel. in september this one also failed. the screen froze and up popped the sad ipod icon. again i mailed apple, who , again courier collected and replaced with a 40gb click wheel model. this one failed today, 28/11/05. i notice that the 40gb versions are no longer advertised for sale on the apple web site shop.
am i on to something here? do apple know that their 40gb click wheel have an inherrent design/ manufacturing problem? do they keep a warehouse full of these downright faulty items ready to send back out to unfortunate owners evry 2 months until they run out?
whats going on?
all i want is a nice piece of equipment that works correctly for at least2 years, not failing every 2 months.
i have mailed apple once agin and asked for a free upgrade. maybe it will save them some cash spent on courier collection and delivery

I have the same issue witha slight variation. The app icons that are grayed out and cannot be deleted are DUPLICATES of other apps that I already have. For instance I now have 2 Redbox apps - one works normally, the other cannot be opened or deleted.

I bought and downloaded the Asphalt Racing game from the App store last night and the game gets to the point of you selecting a car and then shuts off. I tried multiple times and also deleted and re-downloaded and still had the problem. Ho do you go about getting refunds for Apps that don't work or is that not a possibility right now?

Is this the only app with an issue?
Try deleting the app from the iPhone and downloading it again.
You will not be charged for the second download.

Apple Tv (3rd generation) says it is connected (via ethernet), but none of the app, or channels, will work. They all say they are unvailable, try again later. The only thing that seems to work is iTunes. (I live in a dorm if that helps)

Its not properly connected to the network. Most school networks require login via webpage, which isn't possible as ATV has no browser. You will need to contact the IT dept or the network provider.

Previous, play/pause, and next buttons don't work now?!

Hey everyone so i recently downloaded and installed itunes 9.2.1 I don't have any problems with it now but i've noticed that on my mac the previous, play/pause, and next buttons on the top row of keys don't work now has that happened with anyone else? now when i look under controls on itunes it says to pause its the space key and previous and next are command then left or right arrow but those only work when you have itunes open in front of you. Its not a huge deal but i was so used to just flipping through music and pausing and started when i wanted its just annoying!!! lol is there anyway to get them to work again?

I was having this problem as well. They were working with everything else, including my Google Chrome media keys extension (Sway.fm Unified Music Media Keys in my case). If you're running a browser extension that allows you to use your media keys on your browser, disable it. In my case it seems the extension was somehow blocking iTunes from being able to use the media keys. Once I disabled it, the keys worked perfectly with iTunes. I imagine this is probably a problem with the latest iTunes update not wanting to share use of the media keys rather than a problem with the browser extensions, since my browser extension hasn't updated since I first downloaded it.

Two desktops version that don't work and can't uninstall - Please help

Looks like I have this double whammy. Everything started when I had the brilliant idea of installing version 6.0 of desktop software. It installed fine and recognizes my BB (8330 Curve). I can save my BB content however it will not let me synch when I try to do this I get the “Intellisync Unknown Error” message.
I then noticed that version 4.5 was still there so I tried to uninstall it. However I keep getting that dreaded "Could not access VBScript run time for custom action" message. I’ve looked for this error in the forum and tried to apply the recipe I found here, namely to register the VBscript DLL. I’m getting a message saying that the register process was successful, however when I try to uninstall I still get the VBscript error message again. I then tried to do a manual uninstall of version 4.5 and tried to reinstall it. It did but now I can’t synch using version 4.5 anymore now getting the “Intellisync Unknown Error” message there as well.
Just so you know, I’m running Windows 7 32-bits, and I have an admin profile on my machine.
So now I have two versions of desktop software that do not work and that I can’t uninstall! If anyone can help I would be very grateful because I’m running out of things to try.

Have you tried installing Microsoft® Windows Script version 5.6? Since you are unable to uninstall the Desktop Manager, try manually deleting the folders from your computer (Task 3 in the following KB article) and removing the associated registry keys. http://bbry.lv/cmoQ5P Then reinstall version 6.0.

A fix for screensavers that don't work with Snow Leopard?

is there a fix for the screensavers that no longer work with Snow Leopard? some of the developers have came out with new versions, but a few of them have been abandoned by their authors. Is there a way to run those screensavers in 32 bit mode?

I know it doesn't help right now, but like all other OSs in the past, these types of things need to catch up since the bar has been raised once again...give it time and there will tons of entertaining s'savers out to pick from.

Home button that don't work.

It won't work at all! and I was gonna jailbreak it but I'm not paying money to jailbreak the stupid thing!! It's not even a year old!!!

first jailbreaking doesnt cost anything. Second if it isnt a year old it's still under warrently. Stop complaining and go to an apple store. They will fix it or give you a new one. If your short on time though just turn the ipod off, put some 70% or more isopropyl alcoholon a paper towel and press the home button repeatedly. Wipe away anything that comes off, do it again until stuff stops coming out. turn the ipod back on and see if it works now. If not restore the ipod. If it still doesnt work take it to apple.

Snapping: Things that go snap, things that don't.

I've been using Logic for a while now and the one thing that still drives me nuts is the terrible time I have moving things around. Specifically, when I move regions around, trim them, or adjust the loop, I can hardly ever get them to move where and how I want them to. I think I understand the snapping drop down menu. I think I understand the meaning of snap to absolute value, but my wrist, hand, and fingers would say otherwise. I must have something set incorrectly in Logic, as when I do the same basic stuff in Ableton, it is fast, accurate and simple. When I come back to Logic, i feel as if I am adjusting the depth of a miniature nail with a 40pound hammer.
Specifically, I'm posting this now, because here I am, trying to take simple midi loop that is 4 bars long and stretch it out, looping it 4 times. Whoops, I went a little bit past the 4th time, into the fifth. No worries, I'll just drag it back a bit. But I can't seem to get it do drag back to the end point of the 4th loop. I can get it close, but it won't snap back JUST so. Even if it LOOKS like it might end right at the end of the 4th loop, if I zoom way in, there always seems to be a little bit extra.
I fully realize that this MUST be some sort of setting issue. Or that there must be a better way of doing this, because nobody would keep using Logic if they had to do what I'm doing. Thus my new affinity for Ableton. But ya know, I'd like to do it in Logic if I can.
Would anybody share with me how you have your snapping set? When/if you change it around? How you feel about moving things around in Logic?

Your grid resolution setting may be your problem. It's found on the transport. I can't recall which one I use most but I change it according to the type and depth of editing being done.
