Things to consider before shutting down the Server

Hi,
What are all the things to consider before shutting down the Essbase Server?
Just we need to close the applications and Agent process or do we need to take care any other things also.
Thanks in Advance

In order to make sure of a soft shut down, I normally would
- Disconnect all users
- Prevent connections
- Unlock all objects
- Shut down all databases and applications
- Shut down the Server Agent

  • Do I have to shutdown 9i before shutting down the server?

Hi, probably a stupid question but I just curious because there are some error when I chkdsk /F my HD. I am using restart.vbs to do an unattended shutdown on w2k server. I wonder whether Oracle cause this or Oracle take care of this automatically?
    Thanks for your info.

You definitely want to make sure you stop your Oracle database before you shutdown your server.
One way of doing this in an automated script like you have is to stop the W2K service for Oracle as in "net stop " and then the name of the Oracle service running on your server. You should also add the "/y" flag after the name of the service to automatically stop dependent services.

  • Database doesn't shutdown during shutting down the server

    Dear Friends ,
I have to use the following dcript to use Auto startup and shutdown my Oracle Database in RHEL 4 .
    step 1:
    #!/bin/bash
    # chkconfig: 345 99 10
    # description: Oracle auto start-stop script.
    # Set ORACLE_HOME to be equivalent to the $ORACLE_HOME
    # from which you wish to execute dbstart and dbshut;
    # Set ORACLE_OWNER to the user id of the owner of the
    # Oracle database in ORACLE_HOME.
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    ORACLE_OWNER=oracle
    if [ ! -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart ]
    then
    echo "Oracle startup: cannot start"
    exit
    fi
    case "$1" in
    'start')
    # Start the Oracle databases:
    # The following command assumes that the oracle login
    # will not prompt the user for any values
    su - $ORACLE_OWNER -c "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start"
    su - $ORACLE_OWNER -c $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart

    su - $ORACLE_OWNER -c $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora
    And also ,
    chmod 750 /etc/init.d/dbora
    chkconfig --level 345 dbora on

    We use SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS).
We get the error only when we shut down the server. The database was created with the database configuration assistant. Thanks

check the file sqlnet.ora (ORACLE_HOME\NETWORK\ADMIN)where the database is installed for an entry like SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS). If so, disable it.

  • When launching Firefox, I always get a message that my previous session cannot load, even though I always go to a blank page before shutting down the program.

When I open the Firefox browser, it tries to reload the last page/tab I was on before shutting down the program the last time. My home page is a blank page, and I always go to that before shutting down.

I have had exactly this problem - Firefox - version 11, but when I updated all my plug-ins (go to Customize Firefox - about halfway down - '''''Check your plugins''''') and restarted Firefox the problem vanished. Hope this helps as this seems to be a fairly large issue.

  • How do I close pages on the macbook pro before shutting down the computer

I'm pretty new to this Macbook pro, and I'm not sure that I'm closing it down properly.  How do I properly close pages prior to shutting it down.  It's not like my iphone, where I can close pages down at the bottom of the screen.  Thanks

Hi thanks for replying.  I had figured that out, but I'm more interested in the fact that I think I'm running with multiple facebook pages running.  When I swipe across the pad, it shows another one of my previous facebook sessions.  I don't think I'm closing these pages down the right way.

  • Does not start, but when I shut down the computer then the browser shows up right before sytem shuts down.

I am having problems with Firefox. When I click on the shortcut, or the .exe file nothing happens. I check task manager to see if it is running and it does not show Firefox is running.
But when I shut down the computer then the browser shows up right before the computer shuts down. I have tried starting the browser in safe mode and the same thing happens. I cannot give any troubleshooting info because the browser is not visible for me to click on help or any other button.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
    * '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    * '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the '''Program Files''' folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the '''Program Files (x86)''' folder.
#Look for a '''Mozilla Firefox''' folder. If you find one, right-click it and select ''Delete'' and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Shortly after starting up, a dark 'film' slowly comes down over the screen and I get a message saying I have to shut down the computer.  I've tried to start from the disk, and before I can even run a repair off utilities, it happens again.  What's up?

When I started my iMac today, it started beeping like an alarm horn.  I shut it down, and held the startup button a little longer to get it to start.  Shortly after starting up, a dark 'film' slowly comes down over the screen and I get a message saying I have to shut down the computer.  I've tried to start from the disk, and before I can even run a repair off utilities, it happens again.  What's up?  Am I screwed?  HELP!!

What you are seeing is a kernel panic, often but not always connected with a hardware or peripheral issue, so, unplug everything except mouse and  keyboard, reboot and hold the shift key as soon as your hear the chime, continue holding it until you see the Apple Icon and spinning progress indicator, then post back.
It will take noticeably longer than normal to start.

  • Previous version had save all tabs before shutting down, which helped a lot if u open same windows always, but this is not there in the latest version I have upgraded recently.Request you to guide me if this can be accommodated in the new version.

Previous version had save all tabs before shutting down, which helped a lot if u open same windows always, but this is not there in the latest version I have upgraded recently.Request you to guide me if this can be accommodated in the new version.

Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

  • Tuxedo transaction branch in GMTREADY and cannot finishit without shutting down weblogic server

Trying to reproduce a problem in an application we are deployed a servlet in a
weblogic 8.1 sp2 server, doing the folowing:
    1. Begin a transaction
    2. Call a tuxedo service (tuxedo 6.5) via tuxedo gateway "A"
    3. Call another tuxedo service (tuxedo 6.5) via tuxedo gateway "B"
    4. Before commit the transaction in the servlet, we shutdown tuxedo gateway "B"
    5. After commit transaction branch via gateway "A" remains indefinitely in GMTREADY
state, while transaction branch via gateway "B" gets GMTABRTONLY after timming
    out.
After commit(that fail doing rollback), transaction is not reported like inflight
in weblogic server. We cannot finish transaction branch in GMTREADY state. Only
after shutdown weblogic server, and after an undetermined time(sometimes a lot)
    transaction branch is rolled back.
While transaccion is not rolled back, all locks in DB remains active.
How we could finnish that branch without shutting down weblogic server, or, if
not, how we could control the time in witch transaction is rolled back?

We open a case with BEA eSupport and the servlet problem was a bug. Engineering
    got a
temporary patch that seems to solve the problem. The case continues trying to
solve our original problem (the servlet was to reproduce the situation).

    Hi Jose,
Can you provide a little more information. In particular, what are the
    JTA timeout
values configured for your WLS application? Did you set the interoperate
    setting
to Yes under the WTC local access point's connection settings? When
    you begin
the transaction in the servlet, do you specify a timeout value and if
    not, do
you know what your thread's default transaction timeout value is?
If possible, can you post or e-mail your WLS's config.xml and the domain
    configuration

    be helpful
    as well.)
    Thanks,

  • Shutting Down the Xserve Properly

I was reading the Xserve User Guide and I noticed something quite interesting. On page 15, under "Shutting Down the Xserve", it says "If the Xserve is hosting services provided by Mac OS X Server, open Server Admin or Server Preferences and stop the services."
My question is… why does it say you need to stop the services? Would this apply when restarting the Xserve as well? Or is this just for shutdown? And does someone know a technical answer for this?
    Thanks.

I don't know specifically why the guide says that. I do know, though, that I have never, ever used Server Admin to stop services on a server before a reboot or shutdown. it just doesn't make sense.
Using Server Admin in this way will update the system configuration to prevent the service from restarting after the reboot. I guess there are cases where you'd want this to happen but I can't think it's the norm.
So feel free to restart your machine as you see fit
