Things to-do before selling my iPod...?

Hey. This is my first time posting here, and I am fairly new to Apple so some of my questions may seem a little stupid. I am selling my iPod Nano 4GB and I am going to use the money to get an iPod featuring Video. I am wondering, since I registered my iPod Nano when I purchased it from apple.com, do I need to delete anything or unregister it or format it or something so that the new owner and myself won't have any problems using it? I know there are a lot of anti-piracy measures incorporated so thats why I'm asking. Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Just run a restore and you should be good...

  • Things to do before selling iMac

Hi I have recentley bought a Macbook pro and I will be selling my iMac but just wondered what steps should be taken before selling it onto a buyer?
I want to remove all programs and wipe it clean, then restore it to factory settings so the buyer can start using it from (like) new.
Whats the best way to go about doing this?
    Thanks for any help!

A quick Google search found many articles on preparing a Mac for sale.

  • Selling an iPod - can I include games?

Hi, as the title suggests, I'm currently selling an iPod (5.5g) and I have a number of games for it which are no longer usable to me, having recently upgraded to an iPod Touch. Is there any way to legally transfer the ownership of these games to the new owner? It would seem such a shame, and a waste not to let them have them. Im unsure of the legalities and etiquette involved here so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks -
    Matt

    Matt,
With any iTunes purchased content, it is for your use only.
The relevant terms of service clause states, "You shall be authorised to use the Products only for personal, non-commercial use, _and not for redistribution, transfer, assignment or sublicence_".
Really, before selling an iPod you should restore it to erase any content.

  • What to do before selling ipod touch

I'm selling my ipod touch for an iphone and need to make sure I don't send it with anything to do with me on there. Whats the best order for erasing all content? Also, will the amount of computers is authorised with go back to 5? I dont really want to leave the buyer with only 3 chances. Basically anything else I need to know before selling it. I'd really really appreciate it. thanks!

What you need to do is a clean restore, and make sure you don't restore to backup, restore it as new and then DON'T SYNC! Leave it, the new person who gets the iPod can authorise the iPod to his iTunes account.

  • Why do I use my ipod as a camera when I lose precious photos even when I try to back up before an update! Selling my ipod at the first chance I get

Why do I use my Ipod tiuch as a camera when lose precious photos of my granddaughter every time there is an operating system update? Even when I try to back up the ipod, I can't find the pics etc on my pc. It is very annoying and I am seriously considering selling my ipod because of this. No warning is given that photos will be lost. So very disappointed in aple, lost all my music last time, as well as my pics.

Yes, using the windows photo capture application is how you get photos taken with the iPod onto your pc. You should store them there, and organize them in folders.
Create one main photo folder. Inside that folder create additional folders to hold photos. Each folder will become an album on an iPod, iPad, or iPhone. Do not next any other folders inside the first album folder.
Then start iTunes on your pc and connect your iPod. Select your iPod in itunes and select the Photos tab that will be ps enter. You will most likely have first find your main photos folder. Ten select to sync all photos from your pc or select only those albums you want to have on your iPod. The click on Apply or Sync. That will copy the photos to your iPod.
If you should do something later to cause these albums to disappear from your iPod you can quickly copy them back by doing another sync.

  • How to delete the files from iPhone before selling?

How do I delete the files from my old iPhone4 before selling?

    Hey adhot,
Before selling your iPhone, you'll want to follow these directions:
Before you sell or give away your iOS device, make sure that you have removed all of your personal information. Follow these steps to protect your data and get your device to its factory default state for the new owner:
    Back up your device.
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
This will completely erase your device and turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
If you are using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
Contact your carrier for guidance on transferring service to the new owner.
When the device is turned on for the first time by the new owner, Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process.
Important: Do not manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams, or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account, or the content will also be deleted from the iCloud servers and all of your iCloud devices.

If you're selling your iPad or passing it on to someone else, the first thing you'll want to do is make sure they won't have access to any of your personal data. Wipe iPad data before selling: contacts, messages, photos, videos, apps, account info, passwords and other personal data stored on iPad.

  • My friend is selling her ipod nano for 80$ Is it worth the money?

My friend is selling her ipod nano for 80$ Is it worth the money? What are the pros and cons? Thanks. No scratches

    Hello Chibi_usa,
What kind of ipod nano is it and how many GB?  Do a search in google or yahoo or ask and see what others are selling for. Do a comparison analysis. You can find your own pros and cons after doing this.
    Things that I look for:
    1. The model I want
    2. If it works
    3. If it has warranty
If that iPod fits that criteria, then it may be worth it.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am selling my ipod touch 3g

I am selling my ipod touch 3g, i have already reset everything to the original defaults which removed all my music etc, do i need to delete the serial/registration # from this ipod in my itunes account-if so how do i do this?  the new owner is saying that the ipod is locked and that i have to restore it from my computer to unlock it..

they are saying it says connect to itunes and is locked when they try to do that
Even if you had a passcode on the device, it would be removed along with everything else when you wiped the iPod.
One thing you can suggest to them is to place the device in Recovery Mode while connected to iTunes, and see if it will restore. Refer them to this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Selling my Ipod touch to new user-can apps be left on without my apple id

I am selling my Ipod touch since I recently got an iphone. Can my apps and music be left on it? I am not going to give them my apple id (obviously) but was wondering if they could still access my apps and music?? Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?

    Hello tec367,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Or would the best thing to do is restore it back to factory settings?
Yes. They wouldn't be able to listen to any purchased music you had on there unless you authorized your account on their iTunes library and that's just unnecessary. Restoring your iPod is just the right thing to do.

I just bought an iphone 4. How do I ensure my ipod touch 3g will be usable when I sell it? Do I need to un-authorize it? Is there a way to un-register it from my name/computer? I have already removed all apps, wi-fi info, email accounts, and cleaned all internet history.

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. If this is not possible then simply erase the drive. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • Resources for selling an iPod

Can anyone recommend some options for selling an iPod?
I have a 4th generation 30GB iPod with color display. I want to buy the new iPod, and would like to sell my current iPod.
    Any recommendations? Thanks.

I see you are in NYC, why not list it on http://newyork.craigslist.org/
It's free and it will probably sell the same day (be aware that people will try to lowball you no matter what your price is)...but you can sell and have the money within 24 hours. I've used CL to sell (and buy) more than a few things, great service.
