Think Centre M92z factory restore discs

Just purchased my first Lenovo product. Question is: Although the C: backup partition appears to contains the factory restore data, can I simply restore to factory, if needed, from these files or do I need to create backup media (discs) from this partition discs as a source and use those instead. Clealry, in the event of a total failure of the backup partition on the C: drive, it would be a safer bet to be able to boot from and use discs to to restore, but, being optimistic,  is there a path to restore to factory settings just by direct use of the backup partition data?
If so, how would I trigger such a process?
Thanks
Dave

The OEM hard disk was 640 GB (5400 RPM).
Yes, If you replace the 320 GB hard disk with a new 640 GB hard disk it should work.

Have you been calling using a mobile phone?  If that's a toll free number it may be being blocked by your service provider.

  • Recovery Media created 5 factory restore discs as requested, however 6 were needed for my restore!

I clicked finish as there were no more discs requested when burning a set of 5 (as asked for by the HP Recovery Media software).
Now when I'm trying to do a factory restore, it asks for disc 6 which of course, I don't have.
As I re-formatted everything a little while back, I can't use F11(?) to restore anything back except by my discs. My notebook is a dv7t-4100 CTO. I live in Australia but a new set of recovery discs are only posted to USA & Canadian residents. Any ideas please?

They would send you the Recovery discs (if your still in the warranty) in Australia.
I once has to order Recovery discs for my laptop, I contacted HP by chatting with them online, and they have send the discs.

  • X61s (7668CTO) blue screens during factory restore - how to get working restore discs?

How can I get factory restore discs that actually work? My X61s was purchased with a Vista Ultimate OEM (32-bit) installation, but when I attempted to do a factory restore this weekend using the recovery disks with the laptop, the recovery process complained that the second disk was not the correct disk. If I follow the prompts to continue it blue screens with a "Page Fault in Non-Paged area" error. I then tried to use the version on the recovery partition (not the created discs) but it also blue screens with the "Page Fault in Non-Paged area."
How can I get factory restore disks that actually work to recover my Vista Ultimate OEM installation to the factory settings? I am (just barely) still inside my warranty period, so want to get this resolved ASAP. The only other recovery CDs it came with are for XP, but the laptop was purchased and shipped with Vista Ultimate and I don't want to downgrade to XP (if those discs still work).
I could no longer boot into Windows or do a factory recovery. I have installed Linux so I can work again, but I would like to have the option of booting Vista if I need it.
    Thanks for any help/guidance,

  • How to do a factory restore on iPad?

    Hello,
I have the old 1st gen iPad with 3G and a 64gb hard drive, and have had it for 4-5 years. My problem is, after a crash I was asked to do a reset. I did, and now the iPad will not turn on. The apple logo comes onto the screen and it will stay like that until the iPads battery has died.
I was thinking that a factory restore could fix the problem but I get an error when I plug my iPad into the laptop. "iTunes could not connect to this iPad. An unknown error occurred. (0xE8000012)."
I was thinking that when my iPad crashed, a file may have corrupted. But my question is, how can I fix this problem or at least how can I do a factory restore?
I will be very grateful for any feedback regarding the subject but in all honesty, I do not really care if it does not get fixed. It is an iPad 1st gen, I am just
bothered about the £729 I spent on the device (I bought the case with it).
Feel free to ask for any information I may have missed out.

  • Factory Restore HDD issue

My dm4 1265dx hp laptop was in the process of restoring from the factory recovery discs when my dad came along and turned it off while I was away from the computer, so when I try to redo the restoring process through the factory restoring disc the laptop would ignore the restoring disc and pre load the restoring disc from previous attempt and say that the restoration is incomplete and I am unable to boot the factory restore disc--something like "unknown media was not found".  I even tried flashing bios to change the boot order but for some reason I am locked out of the bios, but  I saw no reason to change the boot order because the disc drive was already at the top.
My question is, if I format the HDD will the factory restoring discs work again?

    That should do the trick.

  • Wipe and factory restore without discs

Hi can i do wipe and factory restore my MBA without the discs , i have them some where but no idea where

We did the same with my wife's MacBook Air before giving it to our daughter, but it is not necessary to erase the drive. Create an account for your wife, give her Administrator privileges, then log into her account and delete your account. Everything you did on the MacBook Air will be gone.
Presumably, your MacBook Air is working well and your intent to 'wipe' it is not therapeutic, i.e., a clean install of the system software to remedy a software problem. If that is what you intend, then you will need to find your discs.

  • Satellite L775D-S7340 factory restore without disc?

Is there any way to factory restore this computer without the CD disc? It has been acting odd ever since we've owned it and windows updates every daya for hours. I see that most people are downgrading these computers to windows 7. This one has 7 installed and it seems to be factory. Has a windows 7 product key on the bottom. This computer is my cousin's and he needs it for school. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

See that computer's User's Guide starting on page 62 for full instructions and your options.  Your cousin was instructed to make recovery disks himself when he first started the machine but apparently he did not.

  • Can't initiate factory restore

The sound card on my recently-inherited Toshiba satellite L655D-S5050 has been malfunctioning so I want to try to repair it via factory restore, except I can't find/access the factory image.  Seriously, I've tried everything.  The boot menu, the setup utilities, the recovery menu, the BIOS, and nothing works.  I reinstalled Windows 7 via DVD and now the NETWORK ADAPTER isn't working in the same manner as the sound card, i.e. it's vanished from the device manager--which doesn't make sense as I was using the internet literally a minute before I started reinstalling windows.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
PS A tangential question is, will the factory restore actually repair the sound card?  It's spontaneously repaired itself a couple of times so I think there may be hope for it.

    Satellite L655D-S5050
An easy way is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
If you failed to burn recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 71 of the User's Guide.

  • IMac (Mid 2007) Restore Disc with Leopard OSX 10.5

Sometime after 26-Oct-07, I assume all new iMacs will be delivered with Leopard
factory installed and should come with an updated 10.5 Restore disc?
I wondered if Apple will offer the updated 10.5 Restore disc to customers that
    purchased (mid 2007) iMacs with 10.4.10 pre-installed?
Something tells me we will have to buy the retail 10.5 and no longer be able
to use the restore disc that came with the iMac (mid 2007).
My purchase date was 15-Sep-07 so I am probably SOL for any free upgrade.
    aRKay
Wishful thinking (that will never happen): Shortly after 26-Oct-07, Apple
will post a "iMac Software Update" for the mid 2007 iMacs that will change
    10.4.10 to 10.5.

    aRKay wrote:
Will there be a new Restore Disc for the new iMac delivered with 10.5? Will they sell it to the rest of us?
There'll be a new disc, although probably not on 10/26. Apple will not sell it to you. You will have to use the retail or upgrade disc. You will still be able to use your original restore discs to re-install bundled software if necessary.

  • Purchased 2009 Imac with Lion 2nd hand, Factory Restore, Now do I need to buy Lion?

I just purchaed a used 2009 24" Imac. The guy I bought it from had purchased it as a refurb from an apple store. He was not a 'mac guy' so didn't know much about using it, hence did not do a factory restore before selling it to me.
I followed the instructions found on here for doing a factory restore - erased the os and went to reinstall Lion, but I need to use an apple ID that has purchased Lion.
    What now?
I've read that I can call the Apple Store directly and buy Lion? Can I download on any computer from the App Store or will it automatically recognize it once purchased? My 2nd computer at home is a 2005 Powerbook, and can't access the App Store.
I could ask the seller for his Applie ID, but I highly doubt he was the one to purchase it, I'm assuming it was already on the computer when he bought it.
He is supposed to be looking into if the computer has any kind of warranty on it yet, as he bought it 11 months ago.
Really hoping I can get an OS installed our I'm out $800! I'm not super tech savy but I know my way around a mac pretty well...
Almost thinking now it would've been easier to not do the factory restore!
    <Edited By Host>

I Am going to give you a couple of pieces of sage advice, here.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, in my opinion, is the last of what I consider to be the what OS X had always been in the past.
OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8 are hybrid versions of OS X combining aspects of the mobile iOS system and OS X.
In reality and in many aspects, it turns OS X and your iMac into a giant iPad and iPad like operating system.
You maybe fine with this...you maybe not.
I am a user who really doesn't like or care for the way OS X is morphing into hybrid OS with mobile OS overtones.
iOS isn't OS X and vice versa.
This is one of the reasons I will be staying, permanently, on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
You may want to stay with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard for awhile before upgrading.
If you do decide you want to upgrade to OS X 10.7 or OS X 10,8 and you decide it isn't for you, it is not an easy task to revert to the older OS X version.
It, basically, involves erasing and reformatting the hard drive and doing a complete clean install of the previous OS X Snow Leopard.
Just giving you a fair warning.
Another note, your "new" iMac can take up to 8 GBs of RAM memory.
OS X 10.6-10.8 needs more and more CPU, GPU, RAM memory and hard drive resources.
If your iMac doesn't have the maximum RAM, I would strongly advise purchasing and  installing the max. RAM into your iMac while you are waiting for the OS discs.
    RAM is user installable.
You can by reliable and correct Mac RAM from online Mac RAM sellers Crucial memory or OWC ( macsales).
Here's a link from OWC for the RAM type, specs and amount of RAM you need.

    Good Luck with new iMac!

  • Dv6 HDD failed short test, was able to factory restored to create USB MR but not working

    HP Pavilion dv6-6c35dx (Refurbished)
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
Error: The system recovery discs do not support this computer.
You are not able to restore this system with these discs.
I have not upgraded any hard ware on the laptop,
One day my laptop did not started and only showed a black screen, after doing all tests from the HP Advance System Diagnostics. it showed that the HDD fail the Short DST (wich indicated that the HDD wasnt good anymore or it was about to die, wich I hoped it was this last explanation as I never created a revovery disc for this laptop.
    "Hard Disk Test

    HD Short DST: Failed
    Failure ID: 60F0XF-0006MM-PXGK01-60V703

I did a factory restored to see if it can revived it and it worked so I was able to create a USB Recovery Media successfully.
Ordered a replacement HDD (actually the Seagate Hybrid 750 GB 7500 rpm SSD/HDD Momentus XT)
Once got the new HDD I installed it, booted the laptop from the USB Stick containing the Recovery Media, but got the error: "The system recovery discs do not support this computer.
You are not able to restore this system with these discs."
when visiting the HP support site, It tells me the following
"This error can occur due to the following conditions:
Using the wrong recovery discs, such as those that were created or ordered for another computer." (not my case)
"The configuration data on the motherboard or hard drive was not correctly configured at the factory when the computer was manufactured."  (might be but will explain what I think about this one)
"The motherboard on your computer was replaced with a motherboard that is not the same replacement part. If so, you must install a new operating system or replace the motherboard with an original type." (same as 2nd explanation)
The first explanation is not my case because I did created the recovery media from the same laptop "Computer"
The 2nd and 3rd Might explained why I cannot use the USB Recovery Media, but I shouldnt had the same issue when doing the Factory Restore from the factory or refurbisher installed HDD? since it basically install all drives and software nedded for the laptop to work? ( I consider myself as an average computer user, not ignorant but and expert )

    Hi:
Sometimes the recovery media doesn't work for one reason or another and there is no one size fits all answer.
As i see it you have two options:
    1. Order a set of recovery disks from HP.
    2. Make your own plain W7 installation media if you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook.
Option 2 will normally give you a much peppier PC, free of bloatware, but you will not have any of the programs that came with your PC that you may want.
Or you can use option 2 to get your PC up and running until your set of HP disks arrive.
Here are the instructions to do that if you want.
Download the W7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit iso file from the link below and follow the instructions to use the Microsoft ISO to USB tool.
Make sure you get the whole file to download. Make a note of the advertised size and compare that with the actual file that downloaded. Sometimes it states the download was complete but the whole file isn't there.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers and available software you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Windows 8 OEM Factory restore on SFF E73

    Hi all,
I've recently purchased a E73 (sff) desktop. I want to use Win 8 instead of Win 7 but the factory reset only seems to just do a win 7 reset and doesn't give the option for win 8. For some reason this doesn't come with recovery discs like the other Lenovo machines I have purchased but believe has a recovery partition for doing as I described.
Could someone please detail the process of doing a windows 8 / 8.1 factory restore instead of the windows 7 one?
    Thanks,

    Hello and welcome,
Presuming your machine has Win 7 as a downgrade from 8.x (looks like all the E73 SFFs w/WIn 7 came that way) it's already licensed for 8.x and you have a couple of options:
Call local support and request 8.x media.  There may be a fee.
Download Microsoft media and do a clean install, adding Lenovo apps and drivers afterward.  ThinkVantage System Update can help with that.
