Think I've Messed Up - Help!

Hi all,
I recently got my hard drive replaced in the Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program and after that Logic seemed a bit sluggish (apparently because I backed up from Time Machine).
On Monday, I noticed that I was running low on disk space so I did a few things to get rid of excess files - used iBoostup to delete caches and language files etc, removed some installed Applications I didn't use, got rid of old files.
I'm not sure what it was that did it but my computer is so slow now. Internet browsing takes forever (if the pages load up at all), downloading a document from email is labourious and some PDFs won't even open.
I feel I must have deleted something important or ruined the system in some way when clearing space. Any ideas? And if so, can I do anything with Time Machine to restore the system to how it was?

PS Late 2009 iMac with Lion. (I do have Mountain Lion installed on my Macbook but not been keen on it so haven't used it on the iMac yet. However, if you think this will help performance then I'll give it a go!)

Also an excellent tool to use is OmniDiskSweeper which can be downloaded from the Internet (free). It will show all your files and the respective sizes. Delete those which you do not need.

Yes, the iPhone 5S is a global phone. However, Sprint will only unlock phones for use on GSM networks outside of the U.S. In the U.S., that phone can only be used on Sprint's network.

I understand that you can't get a virus by opening an email, but it seems way too circumstancial! This is my third mac -- because unlike PC -- I never had a problem. I understand this problem is not with my macbook, because every other website works fine -- it's hotmail!

HELP - Think i've messed up

I hope that someone can help me. I got a new mac for Christmas and this is the first time i have used a mac. I have imported all my photos to iphoto and all was fine until the fatel mistake. I reorganised, moved and renamed all the files in the main directory of the applications (the iphoto library) and now i can not view any of my photos in iphoto. I found out afterwards that this is not a good thing to do. Can someone help me to put right what i have done wrong, as most of the photos loaded are not saved anywhere else.

Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
About the iPhoto Library folder
First question- do you have a backup of the iPhoto Library folder? Do you have a backup of just the image files?
Second question- When you cleaned up the library, are you saying you cleaned it up while in the Finder and not within iPhoto?
Third, When you navigate the iPhoto Library folder in the finder, can you double click on the images there to open them in Preview.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.
If the images will open in Preview, then you can create a new library and import those images from that library, or if you have a backup of just the images, then import the backup into the new library.
Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.

Someone please help. I think I just messed something up really bad.

I wanted to change the name of my home folder so I proceeded to type this into the terminal wherein I wrote my old home folder name in place of "oldname" and my desired home folder name in place of "newshortname.": sudo mv /Users/oldname /Users/newshortname
I then logged out and logged back in to find my dock and background reset to the default, and most of my files missing (my applications remained because they are not stored in the home folder). I am extremely nervous that I just reset my computer, but I checked my disk utility app and it tells me that I have used
86.23 GB out of 319.21 total GB in my hard drive. Now, there is no way that I could have deleted all of the files in my home folder and still have around 85 GB of disk space used up. So my question is: how do I find my old home folder again so that I can access all of my files?

Go to system prefs and naviagte to accounts, then select your account and control click on that account, it should give you an advanced optiotn select it and point to your home folder in the home folder field.

My "Save As" menu is messed up - HELP!

I am Genie and I work on a MacBook Pro and PSE9. Somehow while working with my pictures tonight I have messed up the Save As menu. Only the name of the picture appears without jpg or psd(I think those are the other letter for Photoshop format) after the name...i.e.daisy copy...with no letter after it. I usually save to Photoshop in Photoshop format and to the desktop in jpg so I can upload to my blogs. I can save but when I go to upload Blogger will not take the shots. I know the letters need to be after the name, but I cannot figure out how to get them back there. I am wondering if it has something with how I am working on my pictures. I upen the original and then make a copy of it to work on. Then I close out the original so it is not damaged. I know that the name daisy copy comes up in my layers panel. Should I not be doing this? Can anyone help me? Genie

Adding covers for local albums is messed up, HELP NEEDED

I know there are already threads about this but I couldn't find any reasonable fix in any of them. So I started adding my local albums today and I can't seem to add covers to most of them. I'm using mp3tag software to embed the covers into the mp3s and it works fine, Winamp shows them so there are embedded there. However, when I load the albums into Spotify the covers don't show for most of them. They either show the cover of last listened album or no cover at all. So far I managed to get only cover working for Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra. I'm using JPG files and I tried various sizes, various folder names, I tried restarting Spotify - I tried it all. No matter what I do I can't seem to get them to work. This is really annoying Spotify, how hard can it be to implement a feature in the software itself to add your own covers? With all the updates you do almost every week one would think you would actually start doing important updates like the one mentioned above instead of just re-arranging design and changing colours. I don't even believe you will fix this so I'm going to ask members around here - do you know any working way of doing this? Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Anything? I'm seriously considering moving to this new Apple Service at this point. Spotify is getting more and more annoying by the minute. BTW: I'm a paying customer, I've been buying premium for almost two years now so I do support you. But when something's messed up then it's messed up and it should be fixed.

If you are using one of the newer 1.0.xx.xxx Spotify desktop apps there is a major right click context menu feature missing which would help many users out enormously here. The right click context menu option was called the Unlink Track option for local files linking up with the Spotify content and messing up user intended cover art on local music files added into the Spotify desktop app. Sadly most of the local file support has not be added back into the 1.0.xx.xxx app version, and there are missing key features such as the Unlink Track option in the right click context menu, as well as the music file Edit Info... feature in the right click context menu that used to be there. That was the sad news I am afraid.
The Great news all these features are available in the 0.9.15.27 app version, if you still want these features you will have to roll your Spotify desktop app back to a 0.9.15.xxx version and you will also need to use a workaround to prevent the auto update feature, or the app will auto update on you and you will be back to a 1.0 app version again. This is all I can suggest until all the features finally get into the new 1.0 app version, and it might take some time to get there. With some key features missing with local music file support, there just is no way to get the newer apps to behave how you wish the app to behave.
I think I waited a good year before the 0.9 app versions got to a point that I could use the app and be satisfied with the results and the function of the app. I slogged along with an 0.8 app version for a long while until a good chunk of the bugs where gone in the 0.9 app version, and there are still a few lingering bugs around with this app version 0.9.15.27 but I can live with them. If you are an ad free user this app won't play the last track on an album and/or playlist if an ad comes on and it is the last track to be played, the user has to manually play it. This app also has a slight bug about keeping login user name info for some reason, and sometimes the drag and drop of tracks or albums into playlists hangs up and becomes unresponsive and a log out log back in is required to clear it up.
Now there is a trick and a workaround to get the newer apps to display local music files correctly with the correct cover art and all when the local music files play, and also so all local music files are not linked with Spotify catalogue content. The whole thing involves using an older app with the local file support still intact, making sure all Local Music files are fully unlinked from the Spotify content catalogue, and also making sure all cover art is displaying right when played, and all track information is set and correct before saving and backing up the local-files.bnk file. Which can be found under this file location C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\Users\SpotifyAccountUserNameorID#-user. And then one has to actually reinstall a new app, unselect all music sources from in Preferences and then log out of the app, and add back in the back up local-files.bnk into the file location again under C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\Users\SpotifyAccountUserNameorID#-user and replace or copy over the one already there with your back up file. But just using an older app, and rolling back would probable be best in the end anyway. This is a really just a dirty work around to get things to work right with regards to local music files that is.

Hey im using a 2011 model imac and when i go onto sites they load very slowly and sometimes only load half the page, on youtube the thumbnails of a few videos look like they have different coloured squares and when i click one it might play for a few second make a wierd noise then stop. im using firefox
and when i search in the google sidebar up top it says the server could not be found and if i look at the adress barit says google.BOM.au/aerifgubq3f793ube9VR*codes and stuff*
when when i tyupe google.com in the adress bar it takes me to goofle.com and i have checked to see if im typing it right and yes i am....
i have problems with anxiety and paranoia and im freking out please i would highly appreciate your help!
EDIT: and sometimes when loading a page it says content coding error and somethimes webpages look out of order

This knee-jerk response to the OP is entirely misleading. 99% of people use the term "virus" as a catch-all for any kind of malware. It is true there are presently no OS X viruses, however, this point is lost on the vast majority of users, who could care less whether there are viruses -- using the technical definition of virus -- for Macs. There is Mac malware.
Jaiden1998: It's always possible, but I think it is unlikely your problems are attributable to some kind of malware. For starters, start using these servers from openDNS, which are patched against these kinds of redirects, and see if the misdirections stop.
Simply open Network>Advanced>DNS in Sys Prefs and enter the following numbers for the interface you use, e.g. Airport or Ethernet,

Hit OK and then Apply. Make sure those numbers are entered above any others you may have there.

Itunes is messed up help!

ok so now when i pull up itunes something comes up first that says, "this service could not be deleted" then itunes comes up normally. But then when i hook my ipod up to it, it says the ipod software was messed up or something like that and it needs to be reinstalled. So I go to uninstall itunes and i go to "add/remove programs" on my computer and itunes is not showing up there. I try coming here and reinstalling itunes any way but on the last step of the installation wizard where it says "itunes+quicktime", it compltely freezes and the only way to close it is to end the task then a message comes up saying itunes couldnt be istalled. Please help.

you can change the sync settings in itunes. plug your phone into the computer, select the device in the side bar (it should have an iphone icon next to it), then select the tab for photos to modify the settings for what will and will not be synced.

Headache with IE11 not opening some java(i think) popups/boxes. Pls Help!

Hello, I work as an IT guy, and this is the first time I cant solve something, or Im rly stupid with this or its an IE11 problem.
Im running windows 8.1 with IE11, I wish I could downgrade!
The problem: While opening a website (insurance) when I click some elements to open a popup into the same ie tab it "loads" but it does not open/show anything.
This is the element in this website that does not work. I tried a lot of things... sfc /scannow, reinstalling java, reseting IE11 settings, etc etc etc
I WOULD LOVE SOME HELP!
