Thinkcentre Edge72 (3493) only powers up when case open - if PC started when case open cover can be put back on and PC continues to run, but will not subsequentkly restart if PC turned off unless case opened. Ther eis no obviosu physical damage to cables etc. Onset of problme was sudden, no warning

I cleared the CMOS and it now works - whether that is a coincidence & I just wiggled a dodgy connection somewhere who knows.....

Today I went to get my phone's screen fixed. At first, the problem was that the phone was rebooting every 3-4 minutes. Then, after it died, it doesn't power on anymore, except when it is plugged into a wall charger. Your battery is dead. You will have to replace it see article:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.

New tab page only shows icons when I open a new window, not when I open additional tabs within existing window. Help!

When I click the + sign to open a new blank tab, I don't see any of my favorite / pinned websites. I can only see this when I start a new browser window, and only for the "landing page". Once I go to any other page, I can not get my new tab page with tabs to display.

I fixed it. I went into about:config and had to change browser.newtab.url to about:newtab

I only get hourglasses when opening the organizer on PSE 9. The only way to access the organizer is through the editor.

When you open the Organizer from the Editor, use File...Watch Folders to either disable watching folders or choose the specific folder(s) you want to have watched.

Macbook pro only powers on when in sleep mode

ok problem is ,... If i shutdown the macbook pro,...it will not power on when i press the power button .No fans nolight no nothin. In order to get it on i have to : first: unplug the battery, then attatch the magsafe power then, the computer will automaticly power on as if it was asleep ,...it does not wait for me to hit power. Then when it boots up and is completely up it tell me that my date has been reset to a date previous to dec 31 2008,...however the date and time when i go to reset them is current. computer will then behave fine until i go to shut it down . if i simpley close the lid,.. it goes to sleep and i can use the computer ,...if i shut down ,.. nothing and have to go thru all the steps again to restart . because of this i cannot reset nvram or smc. Any ideas?

Both procedures are performed after the Mac has been shut down.

Power ? Powercord only powers up when battery is in ????

I have had this laptop for a few years , but it has only worked as long as the battery is in ...& I mean the powercord will only will only power it up as long as there is a battery installed...the moment you remove the battery ..it doesn't power up !! in fact it switches right off.
I never really realized that it was supposed to be able to power up on the cord alone ...I always had the battery in.
Any Ideas ??

It should be able to run without the battery installed.
Are you saying the Powerbook has never been able to run without a battery installed? Or that you only just discovered this? Battery charging and the power plug color changes are normal?
Have you looked at the System Profiler?
Have you reset the Power Management Unit?

Use the gmail app - only that app supports push. Push does not work with the built-in Mail app for gmail.

Certain things have changed on firefox but work with explorer,ie copy and paste have to use edit didn;t before , certain website i can only use explorer, when i open with firefox i can not burn a cd but can when open with explorer This has just changed ?

I tried what you suggested on the tools site....made all the changes...didn't help. Then I just uninstalled the whole firefox that i had used forever....and re-installed all over again....tried it, same error msgs....tried the tool site again on that, and still same error msgs. why don't you folks have a phone number i can call and talk to an actual person to walk me thru this problem? am an old 70 yr old lady who has always depended on firefox.

Office 2008 produces only blank page when opening files

Under Lion, Microsoft Office 2008 products -- specifically Word and Excel -- will produce only "blank" pages when I open files I saved before I upgraded to Lion. These are valid files which will open using Windows, or even using Preview.
I put "blank" in quotes because the content is still there. It is displayed, however, using the background color --- no matter what I set the foreground text color to, or highlight the background, it will never display my text! So the default seems to be white text on a white background. Setting the foreground text color to red or blue will have no effect; it will still be white.
A workaround I'm currently using is to open the files in TextEdit, "Select All", copy & then paste into a new Word document, but the formatting doesn't always carry over.
I posted a message on a Microsoft site and they said (go figure) "it's an Apple problem, not a problem with the software."
Anyone else having this problem?

If I open any of the documents I was having trouble with, do select-all, and then change the FONT (not the style, not the color) -- e.g. to Times, or Times New Roman -- suddenly all my text appears!

Why does my note show not show correctly when I open it in my 4th generation iPod?

The instructions on how to add a note or text document to view in my 4th generation iPod nano say merely to add a copy of the text document to the 'Notes' folder shown when viewing my iPod's files in 'My Computor.' I did so with a document, but it came up only showing 'PK' when I opened it on my iPod. I also tried adding a book I had purchased from iTunes to my iPod but it also only came up with 'PK'. I don't really understand what's going on as I came view the file just fine when it's opened on my computor, just not on my iPod.

Books in the epub or iBook format are not compatible with the 4G Nano. As for the text document, what did you give it as a name and extension?

First of all, thank you for your patience, this is driving me nuts, can't imagine what you must think right now....
I made a screenshot that hopefully clears this up:
On the left is what I see when I open up Finder preferences, and then the Sidebar tab. As you can see all boxes are checked. The Middle folder that is open is what I see when I open Finder from the taskbar. which is fine by me. On the right however I have opened Macintosh HD. And as you can see, there is no sidebar, it just opens up with 4 folders.
Weirdly enough, when I tried to add a photo to my apple ID just now, the sidebar came up just fine. And I have found that it does that with more programs. So it is literally only when I open up Macintosh HD that it wont do it. I hope this clarifies it a bit more.

I'm not quite sure I understand. Is the sidebar layout you showed me not the one you want? Because if it is the one you want then you should just close the preferences window behind it.
this sidebar only pops up when I open the preferences - general - show in new finder part and then choose 'other'. I cant close the preference window behind it, because then it will close that pop-out folder as well..

By empty do you mean move to trash? Messing with the contents of the iPhoto LIbrary package using the Finder is tantamount to committing the cardinal sin of iPhoto.
Open the iPhoto Library package like this. and look inside the Originals folder and its subfolders to see if the full sized image files are still there. If so you'll be able to create a new library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
If there are no full sized files inside the Originals folder and you don't know where they are on the hard drive, i.e. you deleted them via the Finder, you'll need to use a file recovery program like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to recover those image files.

Im having this same problem an my phone is about 3 weeks old. I am not sure about the voice over part though...I have not yet figured out how to work the voice recognition part of the phone...I am such a newbie with this phone. I did the power off/on suggestion, several times. I tried leaving it off for 10 minutes. Tried to reset with the power on/off and home button pressed at the same time. Charged battery. Still makes no difference. You cannot scroll any direction. Have to double click to open apps. Have to double click letters when texting or emailing in order to get the letter in the text box. Can scroll through app choices, have to click on the line with the dots in it and move from page to page. Can't access the settings - > general - > accessibility - because it won't allow me to scroll down to "general".
Anyone help you with your fix yet?

My presario b1900 only boots normally when a screen lid closed

Hi im a compaq presario b1900 user and suddenly started to have a booting problem since i mistakenly closed the laptop lid in full while booting and opened it up right after.
Then, my laptop only boots perfectly when the lid is almost closed under rougly 30 degrees - whenever i switch on my laptop with the screen lid open, it shuts down after 2 secs and automatically reboots, but then shuts down again ,and on and on.
But after once it goes into window, it works perfectly with the lid open and works well as log-on and off at standby mode.
It only shows a problem when booting after powered on.
is it because my HDD got damaged from a sudden screen lid close??
Or should i change HDD or is it a window issue??
