Thinking About a Blackberry Storm - How Well Will it Sync w/Mac?

The Verizon rep tells me that the BB Storm will sync flawlessly with everything Mac; iCal, Mail, Notes, ToDo's, etc. He says that Packet Mac is fully supported by Blackberry & that I won't have issue. So is he blowing smoke or will I truly be happy???

PocketMac worked great for three weeks for my new BB Storm. Now I have serious sync issues with AddressBook. Apple, Blackberry, RIM, and PocketMac could not help resolve the Issue. PocketMac Tech Support is via Email only. Not very encouraging.
I did see "Missing Sync" software website that is $40. After 10 plus hrs. of work, I'm giving up.

  • How well will Mountain Lion run on the following MacBook Pro?

Thinking about biting the bullet and upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. My specs are as follows:
    MacBook Pro 15"
    (Late 2008 model MacBookPro5,1)
    Intel core 2 duo 2.53Ghz
    8GB RAM
    1TB HD with 390GB free
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
So, how well will Mountain Lion run on this configuration? Currently I'm finding my computer annoyingly slow, so am wondering whether an upgrade was worth trying or not?
Any advice would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Joe.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - that's what I was thinking, which is why I was asking the question. I thought that if I was going to all the effort of a reformat etc that I should just upgrade to Mountain Lion while I was at it, but didn't want to do that if it was going to run really slowly anyway and then have to go through it all again to go back to Snow Leopard.

So, have you had any personal experience of Mountain Lion running fine on this MacBook Pro? I know that officially it will run, but I'm wondering about the "real life" experience of it running on this model.
Anyone out there able to share their expeience?

  • How Well Will Video Podcasting Work?

How well will video podcasting work on a Mac Mini, an iBok, and a PowerBook? I'm going to get a Mac (no doubts here) and I want to do some podcasting (preferably video podcasting) and i was wondering which to get I don't doubt that all of them could do it exceptionally well. I was just wondering if I could do it well with the Mac Mini or iBook, but I could get the PowerBook but I would have to wait about an extra month to get it (money reasons). Almost forgot to mention I've done video podcasting with a friend to help him test it out and it went well, so I thought i would do it too when i get my Mac, but I was wondering ehich would be best.

You have landed in the iSight Discussions area. I do NOT podcast, so I cannot answer your questions directly.
If you intend to use GarageBand for your podcasting, you may get better advice in GarageBand 3 Discussions.
If you intend to use GarageBand and the other iLife 06 apps for your podcasting, any computer that meets the iLife: System Requirements should work.
If you are considering different software, check the system requirements for those applications to be sure you get compatible equipment.

  • How well will CS5 work on my PC?

I'm looking to get CS5 Design Premium for my windows machine.
    specs:
    Windows 7 32bit
    4Gig DDR3 RAM
Intel Core2 Duo 3.16 Wolfdale processor
    Asus Motherboard with SLI compatibility
    9800 GT 512meg processor
    500gig HDD
Now, my question is, since I built this machine some 3 years ago, how well will CS5 work on it?  For gaming this machine still runs fine, but I've never done any real Graphic Design on it.
Am I looking at a dog that needs upgrading or will this machine still run the software without bogging down?
IF I need upgrades, what components should I upgrade?
    thanks

Design Premium don't have memory-eaters like Premiere or After Effects, so your configuration will fit, even with this RAM. But since more and more adobe soft uses 64-bit, you should consider 64-bit windows.

  • Mac Guy Thinking About Purchasing a Storm

Will I be glad or sorry I did?! I need it to sync everything Mac; iCal, Mail, ToDo's, Notes, etc. Will it do this without issue??? Also, will it sync all this both ways... Mac - BB AND BB - Mac? They tell me at the Verizon store that I won't be sorry I didn't go with an iPhone and assured me the Mac sync software is fully supported by Blackberry. I guess it's a good sign that there's a dedicated BB for Mac forum topic.
So what am I in for and what do I need to make this transitions from a stupid PocketPC that syncs to Outlook (where currently all my contacts & calendar are by the way) to Storm syncing happily w/Mac?

The Storm is awesome, but if you want it to work in a Mac platform, you might encounter a certain degree of difficulty , to say the least. The good news, is that Blackberry support is excellent, and they seem willing to go that extra mile to assist you with your problems. Just be patient.  My provider is Telus, and I'm not sure how they compare with the others. I suspect they are substandard. They are just not up to speed on the latest software updates, etc. Hopefully , the U.S networks are better. I also called Apple, and was told that pocketmac is not a program they support anymore. They want you to sign up for mobileme. Pocket mac and the .mac were "shut down" in June of 2008. I'll admit, I'm really confused. I just spent nearly 2 hours trying to get anywhere with the Blackberry support people with regards to this issue. I've installed and un-installed the pocketmac software several times now, but when I try to sync, it wont find the Blackberry. I'm told I have the most current Mac issue of software, but again, no joy. I also don't know how mobileme will support the Blackberry. I've seen a few postings about users who've managed to get it working, but they don't elaborate as to how they made it work. The only thing that i've managed to get working successfully so far is iTunes. If anyone else has any revelations as to how to fix this, I'll be indebted for life...

  • How well will Lightroom and Photoshop CC work on the Yoga 2 Pro?

I am looking at buying a 2 in 1 laptop. I like the Yoga 2 Pro and the reviews on it. I am wondering how well Lightroom and Photoshop CC will run on it to do photo editing like redeye, lighting, blemishes, ect. I want it to run smooth and easy.

I don't own a Yoga 2 Pro, but about resolutions:
TL;DR: If 1600x900 is an option, you shouldn't get any of the traditional blurring caused by changing resolutions.
The long version with math and some history about Apple and Lenovo:
Yes, changing a 3200x1800 native screen to 1920x1080 will make it blurry. Why? Because 3200 cannot neatly divided into 1920 and 1800 cannot neatly divided into 1080. You can't split pixels, so you get some blur as the monitor tries to round-off some things.
Buuuut, if you can set it to 1600x900 (the original Yoga's resolution, incidentally), then you might be OK. It's exactly half the native and shouldn't cause any blurring.
But, I don't own a Yoga 2 Pro, so I don't know if 1) 1600x900 is an option and 2) if there are any other weird things that happen.
But, the normal blurring that happens because you change from native resolution on an LCD is because...in the end...we can't make half-pixels. You have to use integers.
Apple was smart about this, actually:
    iPhone 3GS: 480x320
    iPhone 4 (first w/ Retina-branding): 960x640
Perfectly double -> no blurring. Made the whole transition a lot smoother.

  • I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone as well, will I be able to sync my iPhone with my existing iTunes library?

Hi, I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone to use as well, will I be able to use them both from the same computer or will there be some problems?

Yes.  There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPods, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.  See this article for different ways to manage multiple devices.

  • Will isync sync two macs?

can you use isync to sync entourage data between an imac and macbook?
    what about documents and such?
    thanks,
    tom

No, iSync is for syncing Contacts and Calendars to supported mobile phones and PDAs.
*.Mac Sync* is for syncing between Macs, but only certain data types - not documents, files etc.
ChronoSync will allow you sync documents and files between Macs.

  • Pages documents created on iPhone will not sync to Mac

When I create a document using Pages on either my iPhone or iPad, it will not sync with Pages on my Mac.  However, if I create a document on my Mac and save it to iCloud it will show up on both the iPhone and iPad.
    Please advise.

The calendar that you are adding events to must be in the "iCloud" section of the Calendars app, not in something like "On my iPhone".  Could this be the problem?
Otherwise be sure both mac and device are connected to the same icloud account.  Check Settings>icloud and System Preferences>icloud, and be sure both those pages have Calendars turned on.
If these don't solve things, then to test whether it's the iphone or mac that's the problem, using the mac's safari, log into icloud.com with your account ID and look at the Calendars page.  If the events are not listed, then the iphone is not set correctly.  If they are there, then the mac is not set correctly.

  • How to delete iCal sync in .Mac

I want to delete my iCal info (from my syncs) in .Mac. I created a mess and I want to start over. Problem is when I sync I retrieve the messy info saved on my .mac???
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    fredericlang,
Follow the procedures list in...How to reset .Mac Sync: If your .Mac Sync begins to behave oddly, resetting the sync is a good troubleshooting step. It's essentially a "do-over," in case the computer got confused.
If you are going to reset the sync data, make sure to reset it from the computer that has the most up-to-date information on it. If you sync between computers with different versions of Mac OS X, try to reset the sync data from the computer with Mac OS X 10.4, if possible. Here's how to reset .Mac Sync....;~)

  • Thinking about this upgrade. How is your call quality, clearity on your Samsung Fascinate?

    Hi,
Upgrading to driod 2 or Facinate, how is the call quaulity and clearity in the Fascinate? Need some real input.
    Thank you

Overall, I think it is a great phone.  As with any mobile phone, you are not going to get everything you want.  There are some things that I wish were available on this phone, but overall, I am satisfied.
As for call clarity, I have read on other websites that noise cancellation and call clarity is an issue.  I have not noticed any problem.  The calls sound fine to me.
Pros: Great screen; fast; lots of nice features; small.
Cons: wish it had a front facing camera as well as a rear camera; wish it had better notifications for missed calls and voicemails instead of a little icon up top (though you can download any number of apps to take care of this issue).
Not an issue: Bing.  You will read a lot of people upset that Bing is the default search engine on this phone and that this caused a lot of people to not purchase this phone.  For me, it is a non-issue.  You can still use Google.  I put a Google shortcut on my home page and that solved that problem.  But some people are upset that Verizon did not give you a choice.
If you like the phone and the only reason you don't like it is because of Bing, then to me, that is not enough of a reason to not buy the phone.  I tested out the Fascinate with the Droid X and Droid Incredible.  I liked all the phones.  For me, the Droid X was too big.  The guy at Verizon told me the Incredible had the worst battery life.  I had told him that I wanted to be able to get through at least the whole day without having to charge the phone until over night.  He said that if you used the internet, texted, etc. on a regular basis, then not to get the Incredible because of the battery life.  That, coupled with the features with the Fascinate, caused me to get that phone.
Overall, you will find things you like about each phone and things you dislike.  Go to the store, try them all out, watch some videos online that compare the phones (there are a ton of videos on line that compare the Fascinate, X, and Incredible phones to each other), and that should help you.

  • How well will OSX Tiger fair in a large 5,000 plus computer network?

Perhaps this fall I will be attending a seminary at a large christian university with 5,000 plus students. The university were I earned my BA only had about 1,000 total students, probably 700-800 of which lives on campus. So this will be a HUGE change for me.
The reason I ask is because when I was attending there I used Dave with my Performa 6360. Dave worked well as people could access me and I could easily access their shares. Some students dropped viruses on my open shared folders, but it was okay as they would not execute on my Mac. But would once copied via floppy to a PC.
Dave worked well in this 700-800 person student network.
I have to wonder if Tiger would work or crash in a 5,000 plus student network. But I have some questions.
    1) Its obvious that I may need Dave for such a network as Tiger cannot easily access other shares. It appears that I need to know the ip address or WorkGroup to connect to other PC's in Tiger, and I cannot easily browse like I can with Dave. Is this accurate? My experience of Dave on my Performa was more than excellent.
    2) Has Tiger killed AppleTalk? I'm sure in a 5,000 student network there will be plenty of students using older macs with a pre OS 9.x os. I'd like to be able to connect to them if they have open shares and them to me. At my last school my first year in 2002 there were about 10 students who had open appletalk shares. I was able to connect to them, and launch their apps. Can Tiger do the same?
    3) My Windows laptop was able to connect to my Mac but my Windows CE palmtop was not when I had Dave Installed. Since using OSX both PC and Palmtop can connect to my Mac. Will Installing Dave cause Windows CE some havoc?
Yes i called Thursby and they did not know. But he assured me that if my Windows CE device could connect to Tiger it shoud connect with Dave installed. But I told him that it was unable to on my Performa, while my PC was. He said the issue was apples operating system.
    Thanks,
    John
Slight edit by an Apple Discussions Host

    1) In Tiger you can browse the network using the Finder, in my experinence all workgroups appear, both Apple and Windows, and you can browse to a specific computer from there. You do not need to know specific IP addresses and WorkGroups, you can browse at your leisure.
    2) My Tiger macs still talk to my PowerBook 5300 with OS 8 and vice-versa so I can only assume that AppleTalk is still active in Tiger.
    3) Not sure.
I use my PowerBook G4 on a Windows based network of over 1000 computers on a regular basis. Not quite up to your scale, but it is not sluggish for me and works fine.
    Hope This Helps

  • How well will Premier run on a MacBook Pro Retina i7 with only 8GB of RAM?

My niece wants to do some video editing using Premier and we were wondering if there would be a problem running it on a MacBook Pro with i7 and retina display with only 8GB of RAM? I know 16GB would be better but that is not an option at this point. She is not looking at really large projects.

I am running Vista Home Premium with 2GB RAM and 2ghz processor just fine. I used to run XP too prior to upgrading to Vista. XP undoubtedly flew with 2GB RAM however Vista runs smoothly as well.
As far as overheating is concerned, both XP and Vista run hotter than OSx and noticeably so. The thing to note is that Vista does not run any hotter than XP on my macbook pro.
