Won't be fancy stuff, but now wonder if it's a good choice. Also, a classmate who was in CA last weekend said he heard that Apple will drop support of FCPX. Any truth? Advice?. I'm on 10.7.4 with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz. Thanks.

While it is against the TOU of these boards to speculate on future products/updates what Thomas said is right: FCPX is quite a new product and it doesn't make any sense to drop it now.
The only thing that MIGHT get dropped at a certain point is support for older hardware/OS as FCP X progresses.

I'm thinking about buying a tablet, so was wondering if (a) can I install on a 2nd device (b) can I use the serial number online as I won't beable to install from a CD, and (c) will I beable to choose a mac, after the initial was on a PC???? Thanks Martin

A single user license allows for having activated installations on two machines. An Elements license allows for either platform in many cases (recently not the case from what I've seen).  If you have the disc, see if it contains the Mac installation files... if it does then you should be able to install them via a download as well.  I cannot answer with certainty for the last question since it relies on the previous question.  Personally, I would not let an inexpensive piece of software dictate an expensive hardware purchase decision.

  • I was thinking about buy an 128GB SSD Macbook Pro, will it work with my external hard drive if i plugged it in through USB still?

Well basically I've heard the hype about SSD and i was thinking about buying a mac with a 128GB SSD, but i was wondering, if i plugged in my 320GB external hard drive, would it work with an SSD mac? Or, do i need and internal hard drive for it to be compatible with my external one?

You can replace your internal drive with a SSD and buy an external enclosure for your 320GB from OWC.
    No problems.

As far as I know there is no US cell carrier that allows pay as you go with an iPhone. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S at an Apple Store and try it with a non-supported carrier.

  • Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro.

Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro but dont know if it will have negative affects on my computer, should i do it?

Only if you install it wrong or use the wrong RAM.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Use the free Crucil.com checker to doublecheck if you need too.
You don't want Apple to do it, they quoted me $435 to upgrade $70 worth of RAM.
Do it yourself or have a local geek friend (PC or Mac) do it, it's not hard, unles you got bad eyesight and can't see the tiny screws. Use a catch mat, follow proper anti-static and handling. (touch only plastic)
Break something inside, your on your own though. No warranty coverqge or AppleCare for self inflicted damage.

2.4ghz is plenty of processing, if it means you'll save money over the 2.7ghz. I'd have suggested 2.7 if you also do heavy video editing/rendering using FCP, etc... but the spec you have is plenty

  • I'm thinking about buying iPod Video, should i wait for a new iPod or?

I was thinking about getting myself a Video iPod, but then i would hate it if i was to get one let's say this month and next month a new iPod will come out, so should i buy a Video or is there a new iPod coming out anytime soon?
    Thanks.

Masna is someone who comes here to help out others with iPod problems and is to be applauded for that, not ridiculed.
Unlike some people who come here to ask silly questions.
And Marat Voznyuk, you've been here long enough to know that posting questions asking about future Apple hardware releases is against the forum terms of use. : )

  • I'm thinking about buying the new Macbook but I have a few questions.

Alright, so I've never owned any kind of Mac computer, ever. I'm seriously thinking about switching to Mac, and buying the new Aluminum Macbook.
I'm going to start school in the fall of 09 for Music Production.
I know that Mac's are good for Video editing and etc...but are they good for Music Production?
Would you guys recommend that I buy the new Macbook?
How is the new trackpad? Is it easy to get use to?
Can I still use a Mouse with the new Macbooks?
I have yet to see anyone use a Mouse with their new Mac.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Thanks

Good. Work hard and save up. Your buying window has yet to open.
I know that Mac's are good for Video editing and etc...but are they good for Music Production?
    State-of-the-art. Period.
Would you guys recommend that I buy the new Macbook?
Not yet. The product line, yes. But wait until late spring, when you'll be targeted by Apple directly. By then the MacBook line oughta be completely refreshed. Everybody is waiting for a Unibody successor to [_*this model.*_|http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/17-inch> Chances are, if you're pockets aren't that deep, you could buy the current model at whatever point it becomes discounted. That decision won't come till Spring.
Simply put, if your dream is capturing that once-in-a-lifetime session or live performance from that great new artist you're producing, you want some screen space to run the hi-end software on the road. And so you will not need a desktop Mac for audio. The MacBook Pro does that job with plenty of power to spare. If you're a sound designer/composer, you need more processing power. Same for HD video or animation (like Pixar). So those folks need the desktop machine with the multi-core processing. Zoom!
But you can still plug in an external display when you're in workstation mode on the MacBook.
You'll also need to get good mics and a FireWire "mixer" to outfit yourself fully and go record. So save now!
How is the new trackpad? Is it easy to get used to?
Pretty much. Go to your nearby Apple Store and check it out.
Can I still use a Mouse with the new Macbooks?
Sure! Only one question: Wired or not?
I have yet to see anyone use a Mouse with their new Mac.
LOL! We have a copy of the "free limited edition" MacWorld New York 2000 Pro Mouse (1-button!) that hooks up to our MB AL in workstation mode. I'll have to record some video of it now . . .
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Thanks
More to come. Save now, study and work hard. Don't get too excited too soon! You'll be glad you did.

  • HT4356 Want to buy a wireless HP AirPrint printer got iPad. What do they cost?

Want to buy a HP wireless Printer for my iPad. What do they cost for home use?

Call a store that sells HP printers and ask. The Apple Store sells some models so you can click the Store tab above, or you can contact other stores, either national or in your area. These are user-to-user technical support forums, not a sales channel, so no one here can quote you prices except in a very general way.

  • I am thinking about buying an iPad 3 with WiFi + 4G whilst I am in New York, but I would be using it in the UK and wanting to use a microsim from o2, is this possible?

I understand the difference between WiFi and WiFi + 4G iPads, but I have been able to find very little information on whether I could buy the WiFi + 4G iPad in the US and use an o2UK microsim as I read somewhere that the at&t carrier iPad doesn't work with a verizon microsim. So I was wondering whether the iPad has a universally microsim card slot or whether they are catered to the specific carrier you choose when purchasing. However, I've also read that all iPad 3's are carrier unlocked anyway, so I am confused with the information I have found.
If anyone could shed any light on this topic for me, I'd be very grateful, thanks

The iPad has a micro-SIM card slot - nothing special or unique about it.
The iPad is not sold as carrier locked.

  • To all thinking about buying an A/D Converter Miglia's Director's Cut

If you search for 'Miglia' in this forum you'll find you won't be alone with a Miglia problem...
I understand that a machine can have a defect, but if you won't acknowledge that to your customers and leave them troubleshooting for years, you're basically conning them.
I, for one, have had problems with my 3 year old Miglia DC2 on 3(!) different computers (1 G4 and 2 G5's)!! I sent my unit to England during my warranty 2 years ago and they found nothing to be wrong with it. Now that I exchanged my G5 dual core for a G5 Quad, I thought I'd give it another shot. Still problems.
I contacted them again, showed footage of the problem and then they acknowledged that it must be a defective unit. (thereby also acknowledging that they did a lousy job when they tested it two years earlier) But, since I don't have a warranty anymore, I have to pay for repair. How's that for good service??!!
They finally did an out of warranty 'board swap' 2 weeks ago for 129 euro's and it came back causing new problems.
I have had endless correspondence with Miglia, first about the machine not being recognized by FCP (or iMovie, for that matter) and then other defects like getting digital artifacts when viewing video on the JVC, the latest email exchange was about the board swap which resulted in a unit that still doesn't work. (flashing color bars every 30 seconds or so)
Yes, they seem very patient and helpful but now that I've read the problems on this forum I realize that they've been playing me like a ... They know about these problems but keep suggesting it's your computer ie hardware ie setup ie software. I have literally spent weeks trying to solve my problems, time that Miglia could have saved me. But they chose to keep me ignorant, either willingly or because their lab and tech dept is incompetent.
I am now being sent a firewire card because they 'strongly suspect' it's the firewirecard in my G5. They told me if it turns out to be the card, I can keep it and pay for it or return it.
That suggests service but knowing what I know now, it's plain cheap.
The Miglia DC2 is obviously not compatibe with many Apple machines. I have had problems with this unit on my G4 400, G5 dual core 2.0 and now on my G5 Quad. What makes this more confusing is that the symptoms were different on every Mac...
I have used my Sony PD150 as an A/D converter and it works beautifully. No problem whatsoever. But Miglia doesn't respond to that when I write them this. That, I find, is malicious.
Miglia should make machines that do what they're supposed to do and make them compatible with Apple machines. Apparently the company can't do that and they are not honest with their customers.
All in all, I'm out 629 euro's and if their firewire card does the trick, they're going to charge me more.
Buying a Miglia is like gambling: you might be lucky or you might lose your money.
My advice: stay away from Miglia. And Apple: please take this unit off the list of compatible devices. (Compatible? Not with 3 different Macs!!)

    G5 dual 2.0, 1.5 gigs, 250+300 Media drive Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I originally bought it to digitize VHS, now I just want it to monitor on a ref monitor while editing DV or HDV.
Thanks for the advice, Jerry, but this is not about finding an alternative for this sorry piece of equipment. I don't want to spend more money to monitor DV footage. I want Miglia to be fair with their customers. It is the arrogance of large corporations I resent so much. Let's knock 'm off of their Fat Sofas with consumer power.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm not going to walk away from this without putting up a fight. Power to the people!

  • I'm thinking about buying a second hand ipad online. Is it stolen?

    Hi!
I'm new to ipads, so perhaps I can get this answered here!
I am about to buy a 16gb ipad online. It is used, but has everything and is practically new. I'm always afraid of buying something that would turn out to be stolen. This only happens when I buy something online that's not in its original packaging, especially since every time I upgrade my gadgets, I sell them to Gazelle.
I'm curious if there is a resource to put the serial number into a database, and see if it was stolen from a store or something. It's probably ok, however I would rather be on the safe side before I have the police breaking down my door because I sold a 200$ ipad to gazelle a year from now.
    Thanks!
Note: Sorry for the double edit. I am told it was never used, and is refurbished. I know you can register an ipad and track it. I'm afraid someone steals it from a store, then sells it online or something.

  • Thinking about buying new mbp and have a 2009 mbp

would I be able to just simply get the non ssd model and then take the ssd out of my old one put it into the new one and it should just work? I don't like the idea of backing everything up, taking my ssd out of the old one putting it in the new one then reformatting it doing a clean install and then restoring from time machine.

I think the OP doesn't want to move stuff from the old drive to the new drive; quite the opposite. They want the old drive (the SSD) in the new Mac (which they would get with a regular drive, to be replaced).
It's possible to move things to the old drive but will require some drive and file shuffling. I think what might work would be to take the old drive out, and put it into the newer machine, but don't start the new machine normally. Start up from the software installer resource (do they still provide these on discs?) and install the newer OS version over the old version on the old drive. I think that will work, but make sure you have a backup first.
