Thinking About Dumping My Droid

I love the Droid and it's neat and fun, etc., but I think I'm wasting a lot of money. All I really NEED is a feature phone to talk and text. I actually have 3 lines, my wife's phone, my Razr, and the Droid. The Droid has about 9 months left on a 2 year contract. I could downgrade the Droid to a feature phone and renew my contract for two more years, but I want to eliminate one of my lines. I could eliminate the Razr, but it is my permanent phone number I want to keep. So, here's my question. If I upgrade the Razr to a new feature phone, can I suspend my Droid for the balance of it's contract, and just pay $10 per month for 9 more months, until the contract expires? I would then delete the Droid and the phone number it is on. Is there a better way to do this and still keep my permanent phone number (the one on the Razr)?

Thanks for the offer, but if I do this, I want a phone with a qwerty keyboard for texting. My old Razr is a good phone except for the texting aspect. I'm still on the fence if I want to give up my Droid. It's pretty much a waste of $30 per month, but I do enjoy having my Slingbox available wherever I go.
I don't blame you on the texting aspect - even with a qwerty keyboard (virtual or hardware), I hate texting. It's unbearable with just the number keys. It's funny each month to look at my bill. I have maybe 30 texts, my daughter has 5000-6000 (she and my wife have Droid2's)
What part of the country are you in (generally speaking). I also might have a Voyager laying around - full hardware qwerty, no data plan required. Not a bad phone.
Did you get the Droid subsidized? Are you allowed to eliminate the data plan before the full 2 years (or 1 year)  if it was subsidized? I thought you were locked in to the data plan as well as the voice plan once you contracted with a subbed smartphone. Though, I must admit I've never explored the option of removing a data plan and going back to a dumbphone.
Even with a subsidized smartphone, if you want to switch back to a feature phone, you can and the data add on can be removed.

  • Thinking about changing from Droid 2 and getting Droid X

    I got the droid 2 because I thought that I would want the slide out keyboard... but I never use it anymore.  I am wondering if I should return it and get the Droid X?  Other than the option of having a slideout keyboard is there anything is better about the Droid 2 compared to the X?
    It seems like the larger screen, the better camera and the 16gig. memory makes the X better then the 2.  Am I missing something that you Droid X users hate about the phone and that I should reconsider just keeping my Droid 2?
    Troy

    I've had the Droid X since it came out in July and have enjoyed it roundly. I've had a few small bugs pop up here and there, but nothing major, and nothing a little research couldn't fix.
    The FroYo update threw a curve. But a factory reset got it back into shape. I've experienced no major issues since. I've found 2 small bugs in the phone dialer, and they can be worked around for the most part.
    I have discovered at least one app, WHERE, churns processor even though it's not active on screen. I've de-installed it pending a fix update the coders say is on the way. I've found the Astro file management program exceptional at tracking down rogue programs. It lists running processes and the processor percentages they use, and gives you the chance to kill any app outright.
    I suppose software updates go like that. Some are quite smooth, some a little rocky, and some are total disasters. This one was a bit rocky, but just a bit. Had to spend some time rebuilding my phone, but it's been worth it. No surprise: most OS upgrades play that way, especially in the Windows world. Clean it out, start fresh. Best bet. It's all well and good to thrash MotoRizon for the update snags; it keeps them awake.
    I purchased an extended battery and even with fairly heavy use (some texting and email, map checks, traffic updates, news reader updates, note taking, phone calls, and newspaper and ebook reading), I still have about 30-40% left at the end of the day.
    I like that it's thinner, and the larger screen is a huge bonus. Keyboard software is quite solid, with Swype preloaded. SwiftKey works with it, too, though there's at least one small bug still waiting to be squashed (force close on initial input method switch, then works fine). If you read e-books it's ideal, and videos look awesome. Screens loaded with keys (like RealCalc, a scientific calculator) are much easier to use.
    A colleague has the Droid 1, which I suppose is close enough in form factor to say it feels rather small in my mitts. My larger hands have some trouble reaching the top left screen with my right thumb, so I put what few widgets I use in the upper left corners, and cluster the app icons in the lower right. I can manage nearly all apps with that configuration.

  • Thinking of dumping smartphone & hotspot, going basic cell phone

    On June 1st, I went from the old Unlimited plan to VZW's current plan and got a Note 3 and WiFi Hotspot. My first bill was 200 bucks, i was told the next month should be about 90 plus taxes,fees. After some soul searching, I am thinking about dumping the Note 3 and Hotspot, pay the ETFs, and go basic cell phone, no data. Which VZW basic phone would you recommend?

    I think you might be right.  This smartphone is taking over my life. Last night I went to bed and couldn't sleep because I left the phone in the living room.

    Hi,
    This works now. You just need to create your methods and link them in with your case statement as flounder showed you.
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class CarConfiguration

         int choise = Menu();
         processSelector(choise);
         private static int Menu()

              System.out.println("======================================");
              System.out.println(" Enter _1_ to Chasis Type");
              System.out.println(" Enter _2_ to Engine Type");
              System.out.println(" Enter _3_ to Transmission");
              System.out.println(" Enter _4_ to Options ");

         Scanner input=new Scanner(System.in);

  • I have an iphone 4 and thinking about getting an ipad2.  Can i use the same apple id for both devices?

    I have an iphone 4 and I am thinking about getting an ipad2.  Can I use the same apple id and itunes account with both of them?  Will my contacts and apps transfer over to the iPad2?

    Yes. I use the same Apple ID on four different iDevices. You can sync the contacts with iCloud or with your computer and have them on both devices. You can sync all of the apps as well. If the apps are not in iTunes on your computer - you can download them to the iPad with the same Apple ID. You can also restore the iPad from a backup of the phone to transfer your settings, app data and your contacts.
    iPhone only apps will be half size on the iPad screen but will still work as long - you can enlarge the size of the apps - but they will be pixelated on the screen.

  • I cant sign in to i-cloud with my new apple id  i signed out of the old one and when i try to log in i just get the 'thinking about it' logo. this lasts for ages and doesn't sign me in.  help!

    Hi, i have recently purchased an i-phone 4s and had been merrily playing away and set up an i cloud account.  However when i tried to access i cloud from my pc i couldn't verify it.  I had to change my apple id because i no longer had access to my old e-mail.  I managed to sort out my i-phone and change all the  accounts to my new apple i.d (except game centre? don't know how to do that yet.)  but when i signed out of my old i-cloud account on my pc and tried to sign in with my new apple id it just tries to connect (i get the i'm thinking about it wheel) for ages; not allowing me to log on.
    Help!

    Content (apps, music, ibooks, films etc) is tied to the account that originally downloaded it, so if the iBooks app was downloaded using the account that you used to share with your ex then only that account can download updates to it. As it's a free app you could delete it and re-download it under your own account - and then re-download your ibooks into it (or copy the books to your computer's iTunes first via File > Transfer Purchases and then sync them back to the app).

    While it is against the TOU of these boards to speculate on future products/updates what Thomas said is right: FCPX is quite a new product and it doesn't make any sense to drop it now.
    The only thing that MIGHT get dropped at a certain point is support for older hardware/OS as FCP X progresses.

  • Thinking about storing my iPhoto and iTunes on a NAS Drive

    Hi,
    I am thinking about buying a LaCie Network Space MAX NAS Drive and I just wanted to know if anyone else is using one and can provide some insights or advice. I have a the following set up:
    - Macbook pro
    - Macbook air
    - Apple TV
    - Airtport Extreme
    - 2 x iPhones
    - iPhoto album over 150Gb
    - iTunes library over 800Gb
    I have been running the iPhoto and iTunes off a 1.5tb USB WD external hard drive attached to the Airport USB. It has been working but has been slow but a few days ago the drive became corrupt. I have been able to recover the data but I am now looking at other options for storing iPhoto and iTunes externally.
    I can't help but think I am not the only person in this situation. I find managing these large data libraries really annoying and I think apple should be offering a better solution to this problem. I think most peoples' iTunes and iPhoto libraries are too big or getting too big to run on a portable computer's internal hard drive. Anyway that is my moan for this post.
    Does anyone have any ideas on a good set up for this situation? And if you are using a LaCie Network Space MAX drive is it working for you?

    Same exact problem in my case... thinking same Lacie Network Space could help...
    Any idea ?

    I was thinking about getting myself a Video iPod, but then i would hate it if i was to get one let's say this month and next month a new iPod will come out, so should i buy a Video or is there a new iPod coming out anytime soon?
    Thanks.

    Unlike some people who come here to ask silly questions.
    And Marat Voznyuk, you've been here long enough to know that posting questions asking about future Apple hardware releases is against the forum terms of use. : )

Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it? Would I have to get a hub so I could use the stuff I already have? Is that viewsonic too old to work on it?
    What else would I need? Please advise...

    Yes for keyboard and mouse.
    The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter

I'm thinking about buying a tablet, so was wondering if (a) can I install on a 2nd device (b) can I use the serial number online as I won't beable to install from a CD, and (c) will I beable to choose a mac, after the initial was on a PC???? Thanks Martin

    A single user license allows for having activated installations on two machines. An Elements license allows for either platform in many cases (recently not the case from what I've seen).  If you have the disc, see if it contains the Mac installation files... if it does then you should be able to install them via a download as well.  I cannot answer with certainty for the last question since it relies on the previous question.  Personally, I would not let an inexpensive piece of software dictate an expensive hardware purchase decision.

  • I was thinking about buy an 128GB SSD Macbook Pro, will it work with my external hard drive if i plugged it in through USB still?

    Well basically I've heard the hype about SSD and i was thinking about buying a mac with a 128GB SSD, but i was wondering, if i plugged in my 320GB external hard drive, would it work with an SSD mac? Or, do i need and internal hard drive for it to be compatible with my external one?

    You can replace your internal drive with a SSD and buy an external enclosure for your 320GB from OWC.
    No problems.

  • When prompted to update to 8.0.1 - and I hit install - window just thinks about it and never installs update????

    Trying to update to 8.0.1 - when the update window pops up to install I hit "install" as I want the update of course. However, once I hit the install button it can be all day and it sill isn't done installing the update, it just thinks about it...... Make sense? What can I do to get this updated and done? Shouldn't be this tough right?

    Hi ammikolasy-
    I'm sorry you had trouble upgrading. There can be a number of different reasons why that happened. I found an article that outlines how to correct the problem:

    I am thinking about upgrading my powerbook G4 hard disk to 160GB, or even larger if possible...
    I have checked the macsales.com website and found this seagate 160GB, is it a good choice? Can anyone suggest a better deal or a better choice...?
    but I also notice one thing... it says that any powerbook model prior to 2003 might not support the any hard disk over 120G....
    So I am wondering is my powerbook G4 15inch 1.25GHz SuperDrive model able to have a 160GB hard drive...?

    The 1.25Ghz Powerbook came out in fall 2003, so if what MacSales says is true, then it should work.
