Thinking about moving to Logic Studio

I am seriously thinking about making the move to Logic having watched all the online videos. LOOOVE those new amps!!!! I am pretty good now with Garageband, but think I am ready for more. So my question is has anyone tried to go to Logic? If you did was it hard to learn? Did you end up going back to Garageband in the end? If Logic is too hard to learn is there anyway I can add more cool amps-and sounds to Garageband without having to learn a whole new software.

You can get demos of the guitar AU's I think. I don't play guitar so I have to use reFX Slayer2.

I also use Logic studio. I have found that the Lynda modules have helped make it easier to learn.

Lynda also has learning modules for GB that are pretty good also.
As far as moving from GB to Logic epress or Studio it depends on how much extra stuff your going to be doing to your tracks. I'm still using GB to make most of my tracks and then going over to Logic to master and add a few things. I really enjoy GB's quickness.
Whatever guitar apps (AU's) you buy for GB you'll also be able to use in Logic Express and Logic Studio. That is also true for commercial synths.

Having said that, if you maintain a perpetual license, you will have to comply with the new Adobe one-version-back upgrade policy.
So when CS7 is released, you must upgrade in order to qualify for upgrade pricing for CS8. Likewise when CS8 is released, you must upgrade in order to qualify for upgrade pricing for CS9.
There is of course nothing mandatory about upgrading but bear in mind that you can no longer skip a couple of versions and get up to date every 5 years or so at upgrade pricing. You'd have to pay full price for the new suite all over again.
So it's a matter of costing the various options out over a 3 or even 5 year period and budgeting for it.
If you're running a design business, you perhaps also need to consider whether the Adobe software design tools are mission critical or not. Will your other expenses exceed the US$600/year required for the Cloud?

Do you mean that you have folders on your desktop?
No, you should not lose those if you upgrade your OS; however, it is recommended that you do make a complete backup of all your files before doing so just in case. I'd suggest a Time Machine backup or a bootable clone so you can restore if necessary.
FWIW, you could also store your folders in your Documents folder and drag their icons to your dock for easy access.

Moving all Logic Studio's audio.

Hi, when I bought Logic Studio last year I installed all the audio content on my macbook. Now that I've got an external drive I want to move it all! Jam packs, soundtrack pro material, garageband, everything! What's the best way to this?

So, for the last two months, I have been getting emails offering me a free "upgrade" to the X1 platform. My current setup:3 Tivo DVR's - two 4 tuner and one 2 tuner Mainly use one of the 4 tuner boxes and the 2 tunerStandard def cable box that is not connected, 105Mbit Internet, Xfinity Voice The Tivo's work real good, but are costly at nearly $60/month for their service Plus the 9.99 cable card fee each. My questions on X1 If I were to go to a single X1 DVR, and two X1 "Terminal Boxes" (That's what the local xfinity store called them), What do the terminal boxes use from the main DVR? To clarify, If the DVR is recording 4 channels I was told it could view one other. In a situation like that what could the Terminal boxes view at that time? Could they only see one of the 5 channels (the four recorded ones or the live one) or could they stream something else that was recorded earlier? Could they stream on demand content or streampix content? The local xfinity store said I could only have 1 X1 DVR in my household, but from what I've been reading here, several people seem to have two, so was the rep at the local store wrong? The situation in regards to available tuners and recordings is changing rapidly. X1 DVRs just activated the 6th tuner and they placed a priority on recording over live TV. So at the moment you can record 6 programs as long your are watching one of the 6 recordings.
There are two X1 Companion boxes. The Xi3 is the more desireable Companion box but it does "steal" a tuner from the X1 DVR in order to watch live TV. Please study the comparison because it will answer your questions: http://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/x1-hub-vs-companion-box/
Multiple DVRs are allowed in most markets but some still don't. I have three but I had to pull strings. Please be aware that multiple X1 DVRs are not independent. They pool their resources. You cannot "hide" the recording list on one DVR from the other X1. You can prevent the actual playback but all X1 boxes in the house will see the record list on all DVRs.
Pricing aside, most people would agree that TiVo is a vastly superior DVR to the X1 DVR. The X1 DVRs have an almost appalling lack of basic features and flexibility. They have almost no adjustments over guide views. Ability to customize favorites is extremely limited and inflexible.
I would STRONGLY recommend that you spend more time reading in this forum. I also think that you should go to a Comcast location (or a friends house) and test X1 before you order.

I own a 2006 Power Book G4 notebook. The computer has a 1.5 GHz processor, 1.25 GBDDR SDRAM memory, and 80GB HD. I have enjoyed using iMovie but am ready to give my podcasts a more profesional look. Can my computer operate Final Cut Studio 5.1? If it can not is there an older version that would work?

your powerbook may not be the latest and greatest but it is certainly good enough. version 5.1 is "universal" meaning it will work on both PPC macs (like yours) and the newer intel based macs. go for it.

I'd like to move out of iPhoto to a more sophisticated photo management program. I have friends who use Photo Mechanic, but Lightroom seems like a much better choice. I've done the preliminary research and it seems I need to go through Photoshop Elements 12 to get my pix into Lightroom. I have that so that part doesn't bother me. However, I have thousand of photos which are still filed according to their img numbers from my camera(s) which are located in my iPhoto Library. I do have a few albums that have copies of a limited number of those photos, but most are just sitting there waiting for me to pay attention to them. What kind of chaos am I going to run into when I import these photos from Elements? And will the originals still live in iPhoto? If so, what happens when iPhoto disappears next year? Thanks.

Organization of your photos is entirely up to you, if you put in the work to achieve better organization, then this is creates better organization; if you don't put in the work, then your organization will be just as good/bad as it is now. You can do this work of organizing in your operating system or iPhoto or PSE or Lightroom, its up to you.
And will the originals still live in iPhoto?
Lightroom requires you to have originals on your hard disk somewhere, and your photos are never stored inside of Lightroom; if the photos are stored in the iPhoto library, Lightroom can't use them from there.

Getting a new MacBook Pro, Upgrade to Logic Studio 9?

Hey all. I'm getting a new Macbook Pro soon, and I was thinking of upgrading to Logic Studio 9. I own a legit retail edition copy of the previous Logic Studio (Pro 8), and I was thinking of just installing 9 on my new computer.
What things will I need to do this upgrade? I still have the original box, with the manuals. Including the one booklet that has the serial number stickers on it.

How to install quicktime 7 pro from logic studio

I have installed Logic express 9 and then upgraded it to Logic Studio. Logic site do state that quicktime 7 pro is included in the Logic studio package. I have installed everything from the dvds, but i don't see quicktime 7 pro appearing anywhere. Anyone know about this?

Logic Studio may only "key" the QT 7 player for "Pro" use. I.e., Apple is very touchy about others distributing their software. In any case, I suspect Logic Studio may expect QT 7 v7.6.6 to already be installed on you your system in its default "Applications > Utilities" folder location. If it is not there, then you will have to download it manually at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923 and run the installer since QT X v10.2 (included with Mountain Lion) cannot be upgraded for "Pro" use.

Logic Studio and Pro Tools 6.9

Anyone knows if there is a know issue about compatibility between Logic Studio and Pro Tools 6.9 software? Whe I launch Logic , it says that it can't find DAE folder and other TDM things...

Moving Logic Studio 9 to an external drive

My internal HDD is almost full and I need to move some of my data to an external drive before it fills up completely.
Logic Studio and all the samples, loops etc strike me as a good candidate but I wish I had thought about this before I installed it. Generally Mac apps are very easy to uninstall but Logic is so vast that dragging the app to the Trash is not going to recover the 50GB of disk space.
I presume the easiest way to do this would be to uninstall Logic Studio, the Jam Packs, Audio Content etc and then reinstall choosing the external HDD as the target. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this - can anyone help me or point me in the direction of some instructions please?

Just drag your Jam Packs and Apple Loops to an external drive. After doing so reindex the Library by dragging the folders from your external into the Library tab. Then delete the originals from your system drive.

You may need to run Software updates as soon as installation is complete and before running LP9 for the first time..however.. as 9.0 doesn't seem to run well under later OS X versions than Snow Leopard...

I'm afraid you may have to take this up with the seller, as it seems he didn't deliver what was listed for the bid. Because we are now on Logic 9, I'm unsure as to the effectiveness of updating past iterations of Logic. If all else fails, contact Ebay and/or Apple support.
