Thinking about upgrading my plan..

I currently have the 50/50 plan with the actiontec MI424WR Rev I router.  I'm a pretty avid gamer and frequently watch streams as well.  That being said, the only things on my router using any kind of real bandwidth are my xbox and my computer.  The rest of my family just browses the internet, checks email, etc.  Would I benefit from bumping my plan up to 75/75 or 100/100.  If so, would I get more out of the quantum AC1750 router than the Actiontec assuming my devices are all hardwired?  I'm basically asking if my router would be holding me back more than my internet plan after upgrading to 75/75 or 100/100.  If I'd have to upgrade my router to get the most out of the upgraded plan, I'll most likely just stick with 50/50.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Probably not that much.
A better router, either the quantum or some other (I have used Netgear and recently upgraded to a ASUS AC model) is probably more important.

  • Thinking about upgrading my Powerbook G4 hard disk to 160GB

I am thinking about upgrading my powerbook G4 hard disk to 160GB, or even larger if possible...
I have checked the macsales.com website and found this seagate 160GB, is it a good choice? Can anyone suggest a better deal or a better choice...?
but I also notice one thing... it says that any powerbook model prior to 2003 might not support the any hard disk over 120G....
So I am wondering is my powerbook G4 15inch 1.25GHz SuperDrive model able to have a 160GB hard drive...?
    Thanks a lot!!!!!

The 1.25Ghz Powerbook came out in fall 2003, so if what MacSales says is true, then it should work.

i have a mac and am thinking about upgrading from snowlepard to lion , is it a good idea and hard to adapt to

This is my "About This Mac" ... it shows I have Intel i7 CPU.  If you are running SL, you at least have Intel, but would need at least Core2Duo an 2 GB (most people suggest 4 GB) RAM.
If you want to run Lion, remember that the discussions in this forum from last summer when Lion first came out (and since) were highly charged at times.  Certain features that vanished or were added caused great heartache for some.  Others love Lion, though.  And some live with the changes waiting for any fixes they would desire.
Any PPC (PowerPC) applications you depend upon will not work under Lion.  Use this page to see what applications will not run:  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
    AND
Recall that you can clone your SL to an external disk to keep it safe.  Then you can "experiment with" the new OSX (Lion or ML) until you know it works for you while still having your old SL safe in case you need it.
    Good luck.

  • Thinking about upgrading.

Hi. I've been using After Effects CS3 for a while now, as I just haven't had the funds to upgrade to CS4.
I recently got my finances in order and am thinking about upgrading to CS5.
Can someone briefly explain the differences between CS3 and CS5, and what sort of features CS5 offers?
    Thankyou.

  • Thinking about upgrades to new quantum but..still have eSata

    Hi.
I'm thinking about upgrading to the new quantum boxes but I curently have about 20 shows on an external eSata that I just setup earlier this year.   I know theres no good way to pull off the shows but was wondering if theres any way to stop recording on the external and dwindle the shows off.
    any thougths are appreciated.
    Thx
    shaun

My fisrt thought is to say to disconnect the esata drive unless you watch something.
But then items will be recorded to the local drive that won't transfer either.
So you either have to watch it all, or lose something when you migrate over.

  • I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27" display and a 42" LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best card?

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27” display and a 42” LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs or 1 dvi and 1 vga vs 1 dvi and a mini. I don't do a lot of Final Cut Pro, gaming, etc. I am interested in best value for the graphics card.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best graphics card for these larger displays for the best value?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

  • I am thinking about upgrading my HTC Incredible to a Galaxy SIII

I love my HTC camera, but constantly losing my 3g capability.  Think its just getting old.  I'm due for an upgrade.  Is the camera any good on this model?  I I saw a thread about poor signal strength.  I live in hills and use my cell for everything.  IS the signal really that poor?

The camera is one of the best I have seen. As for 3G, A lot of them tend to have weeker/more unstable signal's VS most verizon phones. Mine is mostly fine, but there are users who say it's a big issue. So just test before you buy and if you have issues. Take it back, becuase most likely it's not going to fix itself.
As for 3G signal in your area, I don't know if it's really that poor or not, but it may be a good idea to check. Becuase there are some places like WV were it's next to none out there. So just think about that as well.

  • Thinking about upgrading my os

I was thinking of upgrading my macbook’s os to Leopard (not snow leopard) but I have a macbook intel os x 10.5 version so would my systembe eligible to upgrade? The reason for not going for Snow Leopard is because I have heard bad things about it (bugs, browser crashes, slower processing, etc.)

If you have OS 10.5 that is already Leopard.
If you mean you have a 10.5 disc it needs to be a retail copy and not a grey disc which are machine specific.
Where did you here bad things about Snow Leopard. I think that any problems are usually due to running it without enough RAM.

  • I am thinking about upgrading OS to Mavericks or Yosemite, but I do not know if my Adobe suites Elements 10 and Photoshop 10 are compatible. Adobe site does not contain this information anywhere.

I should be very grateful if someone can confirm definitively whether Photoshop Elements 10, and Premiere Elements 10 would run on Mac OS Mavericks and Yosemite, to which I am thinking of upgrading to?  Thanks in advance

The suggested Roaring Apps Table is not helpful. It shows both my Adobe Apps as compatible with all the latest Apple OS, except Snow Leopard, which is actually the App I currently use them with!! So this is clearly not accurate. I still need help with definitive answer. Any Adobe Staff out there?

  • Thinking about upgrading my T61P

My T61p is not booting and I am thinking about using this as a reason to:
    1. Moving to Windows 7 from Windows XP
    2. Increasing the RAM to as much as my system allows
    3. Installing a larger hard drive.
My question is how much RAM and what kind is compatible with my system.
The current hard drive is a SATA.  What hard drives can I use?

If you will be using 32-bit windows 7, you won't be able to address more than 3GB, no matter how much you install.   If you are using 64-bit, you can use 8GB.   You need DDR-2 RAM that is PC2-5300 or faster. Faster RAM (PC2-5400, PC2-6300, etc) will run at PC2-5300 speed. Some people prefer certain brands. I use whatever is cheapest. You can use any SATA 2.5" drive that is 9.5mm thick.  Again, some people prefer certain brands.  I prefer Western Digital, Fujitsu or Hitachi.

  • IBook G3, thinking about upgrading from panther to tiger?

    Hello all
This is my first apple computer that I've owned, it's my mom's hand me down after she got herself a spanking new macbook pro but it actually runs decently fine, iBook G3 500Mhz, 40gb HD, 640mb memory
It currently runs a clean copy of panther 10.3.9, but with some effort, I think I could get my hands on tiger as well. However, before I do, would it be worth it to try to upgrade it on this laptop? I think panther runs fine, but I hear for each successive mac osx, it's been running faster, so in that case, I'd try to get it, but if I happen to find that it's about the same or worse, then maybe not worth the effort. I definitely like to be up to date with my software and such, so it would be nice if people with ibook G3's with specs similar to mine could tell me their experience going from panther to tiger.
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome To  Discussions daonesteven!
Here are images of the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, referred to by cornelius, that must be used.
If you know what to look for, those install discs, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, etc.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
As the Tiger Media Exchange Program is no longer being offered, if the iBook doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.
Info here Installing Tiger without a DVD drive.
Once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
And additional RAM may speed the iBook up.

  • I have a MAC that runs Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  The new OSX Mavericks is free for download and I was thinking about upgrading.  Will my Creative Suite 4 (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign) work with OSX Mavericks?

Was hoping to keep my Creative Suite 4 just a little longer.  Will it be possible with Mavericks?

    Uh uh, I see!
Also it seems I can use my time machine backup:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migration_Assistant_(Apple)
together with Migration Assistant. This would work. Thanks
Now I need to figure out the Windows part. I need a full backup of Windows as well, with all the programs. In particular I need to be sure I can maintain the graphic card drivers.
You don't want to know how long took for me to find out how the **** I could update my graphic card drivers in Windows on my Macbook pro. Unfortunately there was a lot of misleading propaganda from Apple about bootcamp, saying that the new intel processor would have worked fine with Windows. Sad that everything was a lie. When installing Windows with bootcamp the graphic card program was unable to find and install the graphic card drivers update . Took me 2 weeks reading through thousands of angry posts of disappointed costumers to find out how to do that. I do not want to reapeat this dreadful experience.
After one year and a half with my Macbook pro I have a system I am TERRIFIED to touch. It is very very fragile, and any little change can destroy everything. It barely works. that's why I am so scared to re-install the OS

  • Thinking bout upgrading internet plan.

So I see that they are offering internet 50/50 and local tv for only $59.99 for 2 years. What is the price after the 2 years? The reason I want that is my current internet is 25/25 and I just want the extra 35 Mbps. Don't really care about tv since I have hulu plus and netflix. What does it mean by up to $90 installation fee? There is a broadcast fee and router fee? Hmm I haven't gotten charge for the router that I currently have with verizon fios so if I do get that 50/50 + local tv for 59.99 will I have to pay all those broadcast and router fee, what about the installation fee?

It will be whatever the market rate is at the time.
