Thinking about upgrading to Mountain Lion. Family members use different devices, but all on one apple account.

Will we be able to view our individual facebook accounts on our individual devices, all have our individual games with Mountain Lion or will it automatically synchronise to the same thing? If so, what do we need to do to separate our devices? Would we have to purchase separate Mountain Lions for each device if we did separate them?

  • I am thinking about upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and am wondering if I have to download the older Lion first.  Any ideas if I can do it ?

I'm not sure if I will lose any software.  The only thing I worry about is Microsoft Office that my wife needs for work.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion I cannot use my HD TV as a display through my thunder port and HDMI cable ???

after upgrading to mountain lion I cannot use my HD TV as a display anymore using thunderport and HDMI , which worked before , does this mean I have to buy apple tv to mirror onto my HD TV

can it be something related to wi-fi?  I have read other posts talking about loss of connection using wifi.  I'm connecting my G5 through an airport express which is expanding my wifi generated from my Apple Time Capsule. It is quite difficult for me to relocate the server close to the Time Capsule and vice versa but if it works, at least that would be something.  It was working with Lion about 3 months ago - showing up in Finder, etc.

Can you check system update? I think I did a system Update 1st, a day before installing OSX Lion and there is a Safari update. If not try logging in iCloud.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer or even off my iTunes library

after upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer, love film or even directly off my iTunes library. in each case, all i get is a black screen and no error message.

Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
    or this,
    Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
Please let me know if it works.

  • I just upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Now I can't open more than one website at a time.  When I do the first site, minimized and in the dock, is taken up by the second one.

I just upgraded my computer from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  I used to be able to have as many websites open as I wished.  Now when I open a website and minimize it, it minimizes and moves to the dock just like it used to do.  But now when I open a second website, it takes the place of the first one down in the dock that was minimized.  I can't open more than 1 website at time now.

There is something basic going on that unfortunately has me stumped.
Before you spend the $20 please try creating a new user, for testing purposes:
Creating a temporary account to isolate user-specific problems: Isolating an issue by using another user account
That is easy enough to accomplish. If Safari and the Dock behave as you expect while using that account, it will help determine the cause. Please report the results of this test.
Delete the temporary account after you finish testing.
Many of those features I mentioned are new in Mountain Lion, and represent a significant change from Snow Leopard. Though you should certainly continue to use your Mac the way you have been accustomed to using it, you may find using Mountain Lion's new features advantageous. If you are fortunate enough to have an Apple Store nearby, you would benefit by taking advantage of Apple's many free workshops: https://www.apple.com/retail/learn/
Otherwise you may find yourself spending the $20 often. The help available here is often better than Apple's. It is not always correct, but it is always free.

  • How many macs can i upgrade to mountain lion if i used the free upgrade program

I recently bought a macbook air and received the free upgrade to mountain lion. Will i be able to just simply go to my app store account on another macbook (macbook pro snow leopard) and upgrade that to mountain lion as well?

sorry to drag this on, your answers were great i kinda forgot to clicked the "this solved my question" thing.. but is there a limit on the number of computers i can download it for free to?
Not to muddy the waters but according to the license agreement here: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX108.pdf, Apple distinguishes between a "Preinstalled and Single-Copy Apple Software License" and a "Mac App Store License." The Preinstalled license limits use of the installer to one copy on one Apple-branded computer. The Mac App Store License allows the installation of "one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running OS X Lion or OS X Snow Leopard (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control." Since in either case, the free upgrade is going to be coming from the Mac App Store it would seem that the Mac App Store License applies. But since the intent of the free upgrade is to serve as an inducement to buy a computer with a soon to be replaced OS by offering a free upgrade of the OS preinstalled on the purchased computer, perhaps it is covered by the Preinstalled wording. The Terms and Conditions of the upgrade program are unclear on that but maybe it becomes a matter of how the content code that's issued works. If the content code can be used more than once with your Mac App Store account or if the Mountain Lion installer appears as available for installation when you log into your Mac App Store account on a Mac different from the one that qualified you for the upgrade, then it would seem that the Mac App Store License is what applies here. Of course I'm no lawyer; if I was, I'm sure it would be even more complicated.

  • Question about upgrading to Mountain Lion on two computers with two different users

I am running Lion on my MacBook Pro, and I intend to get the Mountain Lion upgrade. Someone else in my household has an aluminium iMac running Snow Leopard, so I was wondering how to upgrade that computer as well, considering that it has a different user with a separate Apple ID.
Can I open App Store and log in with my own ID temporarily to download the update? Or can I save the bandwidth and login-switching and burn an extracted installation disk image to a DVD and put that DVD into the iMac to upgrade from 10.6 to 10.8?

Yes you should be able to upgrade all the Macs you control in your home (including children at college) from one downloaded copy of Mountain Lion.  Just make sure you make a copy of the installer before attempting to install it on the first system, as the install process deletes the installer when finished, so you want that copy before the install starts or you need to download it again.
You can make an installer DVD, or you can copy the installer to the other Mac(s).
Also large capacity USB thumb drives are dirt cheap theses days (assuming you do some on-line shopping <http://dealmac.com>).  DVD is fine as well.

Help with Mountain Lion and Mail

    Hi Anitra,
Did you updated from OSX Lion to Mountain Lion? And iPhoto was installed on your Mac? Then iPhoto and the Library must still be on your Mac.
Go to finder and slect 'Applications'. iPhoto must be in that folder. Open iPhoto. See what happens. Are all your pictures/events displayed?
If not, please reply and we will try to locate the iPhoto Library.

  • I "think" I upgraded to Mountain Lion. The only reason is I need to back up my mac to iCloud. Now I can't find how to do the back up.

Also now I can't hold down the "control" button and use the "wheel" on my mouse to enlarge the page so I can see the **** thing.

Open Accessibility preferences in System Preferences. Click on the Zoom icon in the list:
Set your desired Zoom options in the attached panel:
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
    Mac 101- Time Machine
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Time Machine doesn't appear in Launchpad since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I'm using 10.8.1), Time Machine doesn't appear as one of the apps when using Launchpad. I can't figure out where it "went" but how do I get it back into Launchpad?
It's still in the Applications folder and in my Dock but I'd like to know why it isn't in Launchpad any more?
    Thanks.
    Sheri

    Open Terminal and copy:
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps; \
DELETE from groups WHERE title<>''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid>2;" \
    && killall Dock
Go to Applications and drag the apps to Launchpad

  • When i upgrade to mountain lion, do i have to back up my computer or will all my stuff still be there after the upgrade?

Sorry i'm a moron, but i just want to know if i were to upgrade to mountain lion do i need to back-up all of my fles or will it just upgrade and transfer over. when i bought my imac i had it come with apps already installed and i dont want to lose them with an upgrade, but i am SO READY for an upgrade. any help or thoughts would be very appreciated..

You need to do both; the upgrade won't itself delete the files, but problems are likely to occur during it, and drives can fail.
