Thinking of ditching BT Vision

Ok, been a love hate relationship with the BT vision box, reboots lockups and remotes locking up as well. However a reset fixes most of these. However went to try and watch some catch up TV on the ITV player and it was woefull my program was not there also 4oD had missing programs which were all to see via the laptop. So is this just a BT vision limitation or not of there doing. Quite frankly its a poor show.
Now another limitation in all of this is the recording and watching TV at the same time, its limited to two channels, my last PVR I could record on two and watch a third. Its taking me a year to notice alot of the limitations but fear things will be backward on this format and thus looking to move to Youview. Is it any better ? I have TV essentials for the Eurosport channels in all honesty along with BT sport in HD, now I would not be averse to taking on the HD bolt on for £3 to get all the extra channels in HD. IS this all possible on Youview ? Not interested in SKY etc which I believe is not an option with youview anyway. In summary am i wasting more money or are there better options, is the Youview box a better beast ? Quite like the fact that you can access it remotely via an app as well.

yer my PVR was a Humax it also had is faults but was not a bad machine. In hindsight I should of waited last year but rushed into getting the vision + box and Eurosport for the Cycling Don`t think this was an option on Youview at the time. Going to contact BT as just did the upgrade TV thing and they want £199 for the new Youview box!!

How easy is it to install?
Will it work with, or instead of, my
    existing DVD Recorder which already
has inbuilt Freeview and approx., 72

What does it give me, are there more
tv channels or is it the same as what I have
already - freeview and the ability to record,
edit, copy to and from disc, still picture, etc?
Am I confusing the BT Vision service with other
services such as those with which you are given
an outside dish, eg - Sky?
    All helpful answers appreciated, thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Fairly easy to install. You need to connect the box to your hub and to an aerial and off you go. If the box isn't in the same room as your hub BT will supply a pair of Poweline adapters  which use your mains as an ethernet (must be on the same ring main). To be honest, if it's practical to do without those and use an ethernet cable instead, do.
It will work with your DVD recorder, no problem. Connect via SCART. This will give you the ability to backup recordings on the Vbox.
Vision is Freeview with the ability to record. It has 2 tuners which means 2 programmes can be recorded simultaneously and you can watch a recorded programme while they're doing it if you want. For broadcast services you can also add Sky sports 1 and/or 2 (for a fee) and ESPN. You can do most of the stuff you mention like pause and rewind live TV, but there is no editing facility. In addition it is able to stream on demand programming through broadband from a library - This is the bit you really pay for when you subscribe. You can watch on demand while recording Freeview if you wish.
It will not work without BT broadband.

  • Thinking of ditching pc for iMac.

Might seem a simple question to you guys but will I be able to use adobe products (flash player) on an iMac as they don't work on my iPhone or iPad?

Sure you can use Flash on a Mac. However you will need to download it from Adobe's website, it does not come pre-installed on the current line of machines. If you have Adobe applications that are PC based you will need to convert them to OS X based apps, Adobe can assist  you with that. You will need to contact them so they can explain or visit their web site.

  • Creative Vision M Questi

Is it possible to transfer songs from a Creative MP3 player, to the Vision M? I'm thinking about buying the Vision M player as I have the dreaded headphone jack problem on the Zen Micro.
Also is it easy to transfer them?
If you have a Vision M, I'd also like to hear your input on how good they are as well.

I think you can export the tracks on your Micro to your PC.
Then you can put them into your ZVM.
I have one and I think it is a very nice looking player.
It has good features and an easy user interface.
I'm rather dissapointed that the black ZVM scratches VERY easily.
But it can only be seen all scratched if it is put up against the light. So that's not as bad.
The battery life is really good and lasts a good deal of time.
I think you will be very happy with it.
So far I only had the sound distortion problem that just died down and doesn't come up anymore. The player also freezed while I was browsing pictures one time. But this got resolved with the reset option.
Let us know if you will be getting one! Chose wisely!

  • NI Vision Run-Time Engine 8.2 - Error user is now getting when attempting install of built software

I've built an installer for an application using LabVIEW 8.2 and Vision8.2.  I have sent this installer to someone for 6 months and they have had no problems completing the install.
Now the last time that I sent the installer, the user is getting the attached error during install.
    "NI Vision Run-Time Engine 8.2
Error: Another installer or uninstaller is running.
Finish that installer or uninstaller and try again."
When the user clicks OK to this error, the user is then told to restart or finish uninstall.  Since we do not know what uninstall is being asked for, the user restarted the computer and attempted running the software - to which he was prompted for LVWA.dll file and he did not know what to do from there.
I gave the installer to a second beta-tester - the same thing occurred.
The only thing 'of significance' that has changed in my software that I can think of that is Vision related is the inclusion in the software of the ability to read/write .TIF files.  I have no clue whether that might have anything to do with the error.
Any help is appreciated.  NI - I can post the installer ZIP to your ftp site if you want.
    Sincerely,

    Hello Don,
Have you tried uninstalling the previous Vision run-time
engine on the deployed computer before running the new installer?   You
might also want to try running the Vision RTE separately from the installer to
see if you are able to manually run it on the target.  Here is a document which explains the
procedure for both manually installing the RTE as well as how to include it in
    the LabVIEW installer:How do I
Deploy LabVIEW 8.0 and 8.20 Applications with NI Vision 8.0 and 8.2?
      I also found
a Knowledge Base that may be helpful addressing the error you mention in your
first post.  I hope this helps.
    How Do I
Correct the "Another Installer Is Already Running" Error Message?

  • Is YouView box free with BT Vision?

I am thinking about adding BT Vision again to my Infinity 2 and Anytime calls package and was wondering if I would get the YouView with it. If so, can I add the cheapest Vision deal and still get the box free?

I am thinking about extending my BT contract for another 12 months.
See this page for adding BT TV to Infinity.
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=27270&upg=inf
Currently TV Essential (£5) should come with a Youview box and the TV Essential Extra (£7) should come with a BT Vision+ box. If you go through the selection screens to build a package then it will add the correct box automatically. There is an activation fee of £49 and a minimum term of 12 months for either box.
The reason for the different boxes is that the Youview box currently can't support the way the extra channels are delivered. However this is likely to change in a few months time as the BT Sport channels will be delivered using the same method, and BT have said Youview will support BT Sport channels by Aug 1st. Of course there might then still be some other reason why BT don't offer TV Essential Extra and TV Unlimited Extra on the Youview box from August.

  • DO NOT GET BT VISION: V04 ERROR

Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of getting BT Vision or any other BT product.
I ordered BT Vision to go with the BT Infinity installed the previous week.  The box duly came on the activation day (Friday).  Unfortunately I was getting the V04 error from the off.  However I thought it might take till midnight for everything to be active so I waited till the next day.  Sadly it was still not working so I did all the things recommended on the BT support website to no avail.  This was with both the Home Hub 3 and my Apple Time Capsule (which I had been using fine with the Infinity Modem).  I had also run the BT Speedtest checker and was getting download of 35Mbps and upload of 8Mbps.
I rang BT Vision support to be told to do the same things I had already done.  I was told it had been escalated and to expect a call back by midday.  By 6pm I had still not received a call back so rang again and waited 15-20 minutes just to speak to someone.  I was told that it was a broadband fault and that BT Wholesale would need to look at and I would get a ringback between 8-11am today.  This window passed so I have rung BT Vision support again who took 30 minutes to answer then put me through to BT Broadband support who have told me there is no problem and now my call has exceeded 1 hour I am now in a queue to speak to BT Vision support again.
While I have no problem with things being faulty I do have a problem when I am repeated promised things that do not happen and then passed around departments, who are passing the buck, and don't know their backside from their elbow.
I was really reticent about going back to BT but Infinity is the only way to get a reasonable broadband speed in my area.  Don't make the same mistake I have.

Hi Evil_Dan, Well I thought you'd discovered something sinister with the Vbox

When you carried out the speedtest, did it present a QoS result?
Try watching an On demand title, stop it, wait a few mins and then run another test
You're looking for Assured rate test - if it isn't there, then chances are BT have forgotten to enable it - it's needed for Vision to work

  • BT Vision Freeview Channels

    Hello,
I am thinking of getting BT Vision mainly for Sky Sports etc but need help clarifying something first. I currently get Freeview through my Freeview TV and have most channels in my area. I have the obvious ones such as BBC 1, 2 etc and then all the others like Five, ITV 2 Sky Sports News (well for now anyway). In my TV guide I also have Sky Sports 1 & 2 but obviously can't access it as its not paid for.
However, when I started to purchase BT Vision on line it searched my property and said that I didn't have Freeview in my Area (Bournemouth) and that I would only have access to 19 channels. It also said that I wouldn't have access to another 57 channels. The thing is, included in the 57 channels it said I wouldn't have access to under BT Vision were channels that I already have access to now including BBC 1, BBC 2 and ITV. It also said I wouldn't have access to Sky Sports 1 or 2 but again these already appear in the Freeview TV Guide I have just through my TV.
My question is just how accurate/up to date is BTs search system for Freeview because the last thing I want to do is go and order it and then find I have less channels to watch then I do at the moment.
Can anyone shed any light on why it would say I will only have access to 19 channels under BT Vision when I already have access to over 40 channels just through my Freeview TV?
Thanks for any advice in advance.
    Regards
    Pete

    Hi Pete
I can't give you an accurate answer but I can explain my own experience when I joined BT Vision, which was positive.
I live in a reasonably remote area and did not have full freeview coverage with a bog standard freeview box. I had the likes of ITV2 and E4 but no ITV4, Dave or Sky Sports News etc. The same box did receive these channels at a previous address though so I thought it was just what was available to me here.
However, as soon as BT Vision did it's initial channel search, voila, full freeview with all the TV and radio channels. Basically everything that was missing before had suddenly appeared.
So, from my experience, I'd expect you to be fine, as somehow BT Vision got more freeview channels than I previously had access to through the same aerial. Perhaps by sending them over the internet like they do with their OnDemand content, I'm not sure, but it was a positive outcome anyway.

  • Adobe Bridge CS5.1 - Edit Export Preset Crash

I have successfully duplicated this issue on multiple machines, multiple user accounts running variations of 10.7 - 10.7.2. All Adobe updates applied.
Open Bridge CS5.1 > Click on EXPORT Panel tab > Save to Hard Drive (double click to edit) > choose Browse...
If you don't crash at this point... choose cancel and then select Browse again. You may also successfully select a folder, then go back and reedit preset by selecting Browse again... Crash.
I feel like I have tried it all... clean OS X, clean install of CS5.5 - no luck.

Same problem here.  It's really frustrating.  Thinking of ditching Bridge and switching to another app.  If I can't batch export RAW to JPEG, the program is pretty useless.

  • Unable to delete songs from my iPad 2

Last night for the first time ever I had problems updating iOs (version 7.0.4) on my iPad 2. I kept getting one of several messages, for example, saying: iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes. I went through the update three times before it finally worked.
Then I found that I had every song that I had ever purchased cluttering up -- and filling up -- my iPad. Although in the past I was able to delete either a single song or an entire album, I am now UNABLE TO DELETE ANY SONG.
I have the iTunes setting on Manual update and have attempted to completely disconnect the disgusting iCloud feature. However, it appears that iCloud is NOT disconnected.
I happily use the iPad 2 ONLY for a very few uses on a daily basis. I wish to control ALL my music from my iMac.
I've been with Apple since 1984, but I'm seriously thinking of ditching this iPad 2 for a Samsung product.
    Any assistance will be appreciated.

Somehow I got 12 songs on my ipad mini that I could not remove.
I stumbled across a solution.  Plug in the ipad and UN-check "sync music" to remove all but the remaining unwanted song.  Find the song in your itunes library and right click these unwanted songs and RE-ADD it directly to the ipad.
The ipad should automatically re-check "sync music" and show one song being synced.  Now manually UN-check the sync music box again and the warning will come up "are you sure...existing songs...removed".  Select remove and click the "apply" button in itunes.  Once the changes are applied, you should see the song remove itself from your ipad.
    Good luck!

  • OS 4.5 screwed up my Curve!

    Bear with me...
Ok, so I have the Curve 8320 from T-Mobile. Ever since I upgraded from OS 4.2 to OS 4.5, my Curve has been screwed up! I have contact T-Mobile multiple times on this and they've sent me 2 replacement phones - and I am still having the same issue. They say it's not a "known issue" with OS 4.5, but if anyone can help me with any or all of these issues, or anyone can relate, please help!
Issues (since I upgraded to OS 4.5):
    1. My File Total number is gone (Under Options > Status , it used to show File Total and File Free - now it just shows File free)
    2. I have no more preloaded wallpapers
    3. I cannot save pictures that I take on my camera anymore. I get a 'File system full' message. Also, I cannot move pictures into a created folder. I do not have a lot of pictures, nor ringtones, so I don't think it's because my memory is full? If that's the case, do I need to buy a bigger memory chip or something?
    4. I cannot download ringtones anymore from my favorite free ringtones site. My downloaded ringtones do not show up on my ringtones list anymore
Ok, now the 2 major issues:
    5. The manage internet email icon screws up my Browser icon. I have my Browser homepage set to Google. I click on the Manage internet email icon, let's say, to add a new email address. Now,when I go to my Browser icon, it takes me to the last page I was on under the Manage internet email - not to Google. If I click 'homepage', it now takes me to t-zones homepage - even if I change my default homepage to google again. Grrr..
    6. My trackball and keyboard sometimes lights up and sometimes doesn't light up. It sometimes goes dark in the middle of texting or something. Sometimes I start texting or browsing around my phone while the trackball and keyboard are dark, and all of a sudden - it lights up. At first I was thinking there was some kind of sensor in the Service light, but it shouldn't magically light up or turn off in the middle of me playing around with my phone.
This is the reason why T-Mobile has sent me 2 replacement phones. They don't know why this is happening. I think it has to do with the OS 4.5, but they say it's not a "known issue" and it shouldn't be doing that.
Can anyone help at all? Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I have the same problems as you on #2 and #3. I haven't tried some of the other things you mentioned. But my phone is totally boned. I haven't found a solution to this yet. Info is hard to find on this problem. I'm thinking about ditching this 8320.

  • Mouse back and forward buttons don't work

I have a Dell wireless bluetooth mouse. I installed Safari 4, and I like it a lot. I am thinking of ditching IE, but the back and forward buttons on my mouse don't do anything in Safari. It's very frustrating having to click the back button on screen instead of directly on my mouse. The buttons work perfectly in IE and in Windows explorer. I reinstalled the mouse drivers, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Did u get any software for your mouse? What brand is your mouse? I have Logitech setpoint software, where I can adjust mouse profile, setup mouse buttons action... I also have option (checkbox) to make my mouse use windows generic settings (the one you have in Control Panel under mouse section.
Now, this is just an idea, but it's good start point.
What you can also do (if you have such software installed) to uninstall it, restart, and see if Safari back/forward will work. Maybe this software (for some bizarre reason) conflicts Safari default action (as you said you don't have such problem in Fx)
Let me know if this worked for you.
    Cheers,
    Miki
EDIT: Before you do all this, maybe it's easier for you (if possible) to try another mouse, to see if you have same issues or not

  • Drive swap

The original 250G hard drive is in a safe - just in case I need it. Probably only if I need to send it to AppleCare. I filled all the bays with 500G hard drives. But Aperture was getting slow because the 500G was too small with my iPhoto library that I never use and my iTunes library which continues to grow. (I'm a hopeless iTunes Music Store addict.)
So, I bought a Western Digital 640G WD6400AAKS to replace the drive in bay 3 where my Aperture library resides. As easy as Apple made these to upgrade, I still hesitate just a bit so I didn't install the drive until today. It arrived a week ago.
I took the drive out of bay 1 and put in the new one. Then I copied my Aperture library to the new one after formatting. The dialog said it would take about three hours. I took a nap. When the copy was done, I put the old drive back in bay 1 and put the new replacement in bay 3. The old drive that was in bay 3 is in a safe that will be taken to a safe deposit box along with the original 250G drive so I won't have to worry about losing any photos from my Aperture library. I also moved my iTunes Library to bay 4's drive which is just used for a scratch disk.
    Now. On to my questions.
With the Aperture Library copied to the new drive, I decided to right-click the Aperture library and "Open with..." ->Aperture on the icon. Aperture opened the library. When I went to Aperture's preference to point it to the new location, it was already changed. So, does this mean I can just click on Aperture's application icon on the dock from now on?
I plan to weed a lot of photos out of my Aperture library, but I suspect it will get too big for this 640G drive shortly since I'm only shooting only in RAW now. I know I can still access the really old stuff from my drive going to the safe deposit box.
However, looking ahead, I'm thinking of putting the Aperture library on an external Firewire drive - probably 1.5T. Will an external FW disk be slower than the internal bus? I also have an external FW for backups and I have heard that more than one device on the FW bus will slow down the bus. If so, I would be better off putting the Aperture library on another internal. But, I understand the max size internal drive I can have in my (March 2007) Mac Pro is 1T, true?
Last question. Where is a good place to get a FW enclosure for SATA drives? All that I could find were for USB enclosures and I want to recycle my old drives for use as backup disks. Are there FW 800 enclosures for SATA 2 disks? I'm also considering a dock for the SATA drives, so I can copy the data to one or two large FW drives to go to the safe deposit box. The docks I found were for IDE disks.
Thanks. BTW, Aperture is running much faster with more room-277G free space. It got down to only 30G before I noticed and culled a bunch of photos to allow for 90G free.

Is it not possible to Archive part of your Aperture library?
Surely you don't need constant access to everything you ever shot?
I'm a pro photographer, and the way I work with my MacPro is this:
    Bay 1 - 640GB WD6400AAKS - Mac OS, Software & iTunes Library. Currently has 500GB free space.
Bay 2 - 320GB WD3200AAJS - Bootable Clone of Bay 1, backed up daily. This is the original drive that shipped with my MP, I intend to shelve it soon and replace with another WD6400AAKS.
Bay 3 - 640GB WD6401AALS - Pending Jobs. My jobs can run to 60GB each, and I usually have 7-9 jobs on the go simultaneously.
    Bay 4 - 640GB WD6400AAKS - Photoshop Scratch Disk.
    Attached via FW800:
LaCie D2 Quadra 750GB - Clone of Bay 3, backed up daily.
LaCie D2 Quadra 500GB - Last 30 or so jobs previous, edited down to save disk space.
LaCie D2 Quadra 500GB - Clone of above.
The rest is burnt to DVD, as well as being on a bunch of portable hard drives that are regularly checked for integrity.
I'm thinking of ditching the LaCies for a 5-bay JBOD enclosure, and also one of these for secondary backups:
    http://www.storagedepot.co.uk/External-Hard-Drives/Hard-Drive-Cradles/sc883/p877 .aspx
That way, I'll have more control over drive quality.
I use PhaseOne's CaptureOne Pro software, as jobs/shoots are saved as standalone 'sessions', rather than having to be part of some never-ending Library.
All eggs in one basket is never a good idea, if I were you i'd be looking into archiving the older work you rarely access.

  • Continual alert to restart

Hi guys, I've never encountered this problem before - at least on such a continual basis.
So using a 600 mhz G3 grahite, 10.4.11 or what ever is on the harddrive - I was changing over to a different harddrive - when I replaced it with another used HD, I thought I'd check it out with disk utility - but that process actually stopped mid-stream; so I re-initialised the thing, stuck an OSX vs 1 in to reinstall software - that process also stopped halfway with an error warning - 'can't continue installation' - so I put in another HD - got the screen running fine, nice and blue, initialising, then the black 'restart' box/transparent notice came up, and up and up and up - replaced that HD with a third HD - hit the cpu button - once!!! - and still got the 'restart warning - and when I tried to restart via the OSX CD - on each of the replaced HD's - I got black writing running down the screen, a few moments after the CD startup screen appeared.
Okay - I did add a 128 stick of mem to the 512 already there - but both sticks had shown up 'ok' on the first replacement, before I thought I'd use disk utility to repair the very first HD replacement, as it had been acting a bit clunky at times. and there have been no memory problem chimes anyway.
I have noticed that a tremendous amount of heating up happens, especially on the HD carry case and the HD itself - abnormally high - so that is a bit of a worry.
This is one of my best 'puters - so I'd really like to try fixing before I think about ditching it.
It just don't sound like a HD thing here - and I've checked the cables each time to see if I connected them correctly.
    Any clues - testimonies?????
