Thinking of dumping smartphone & hotspot, going basic cell phone

On June 1st, I went from the old Unlimited plan to VZW's current plan and got a Note 3 and WiFi Hotspot. My first bill was 200 bucks, i was told the next month should be about 90 plus taxes, fees. After some soul searching, I am thinking about dumping the Note 3 and Hotspot, pay the ETFs, and go basic cell phone, no data. Which VZW basic phone would you recommend?

I think you might be right.  This smartphone is taking over my life. Last night I went to bed and couldn't sleep because I left the phone in the living room.
What about the LG Exalt?

  • How do I connect my HP Deskjet 3050 to my portable hotspot on my cell phone?

I know how to use my hotspot on my cell phone as well as know what the password is to connect to other devices, however, I cannot figure out how to change the password on my HP Deskjet 3050 so it uses that to connect and allow me to print and scan.  There is no WPS button to press and hold on my cell phone like a router so it finds it so I need to manually change to password so it looks for my cell phone to connect.  Thanks!

    Hi,
It supports wirless therefore you can connect it to your home network and print wirelessly. The following manual may help:

  • Does Verizon market a basic cell phone any longer?

Needing a basic phone.  Does Verizon offer one?
What is a simple phone?  Here's what it is not:  It does not surf the web.  It does not play music or videos.  It does not take photographs.  It doesn't even need to text.  It doesn't need to be festooned with buttons that activate services the user doesn't need.  It doesn't need to beep when you shift it in your pocket or put on your seatbelt.
What does it need to do?  It needs to be able to accommodate a user wishing only to dial calls and receive calls, take messages and retain a list of contact numbers.  It needs to have buttons placed INSIDE the folded unit so the user while accessing the phone doesn't turn something on or up or down or off.  Beyond that, it just needs to sit there quietly until a call comes in.
Does Verizon offer such a phone?  If not, can anyone suggest a carrier that does.
[Sorry for the rant, but I am pretty burnt out on paying a monthly fee for a simple phone that is clearly not designed from the user innerface point of view.  My current Samsung Grunt has proven to be a huge disappointment largely because it possesses too many features.  I just want to make a ****** phone call.  ]

  • HP client security preventing connection to cell phone hotspot

VERY unfortunately, I got sick of this always asking me for stuff, so I finally setup the HP Client Security.  I am EXTREMELY upset that now I can't access my personal hotspot on my cell phone that I need on a daily basis for my business!  Startup is also EXTREMELY SLOW!
Should I disable or uninstall it?
    Thank you.

There is not enough info to know what phone is doing the hotspot and did you contact your cell phone provider in how to setup the hotspot??

  • 2720 Beginner Cell Phone User Info Resources?

Can anyone recommend a reference or info source for neophytes?  I've had a basic cell phone for twelve years, which I've only used to place and receive phone calls.  Imagine that!  But I've just purchased a 2720, and find the "User Guide" to be absolutely worthless.  ( Where is the "menu" button?  How could I go back and forth?  How was I to know to press "7" to change from "am" to "pm" when setting the time???)  Until I talked to my service provider's support, I couldn't even figure out how to navigate the screens.  That showed me how 20th century my background is.  I'm relatively computer-savvy, with a wireless network at home.
Now I'm curious about photographing, installing ring tones, texting, etc.  I don't see a "Cell Phoning For Dummies" book on amazon.
Any tips to get me rolling?
    Thanks!

You would need to install OVI Suite on your PC using Bluetooth connectivity if you want to get any data off the phone from here:http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite/compatibility-and-download
A bit more information on what you can xpect to find on phone here:http://www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/all-phones/nokia-2720-fold/specifications

  • How do I convert itune music to transfer to cell phone music player.

I have a Samsung Rugby phone that I want to install music to from itunes.  I once found online a step by step instruction to change the file so that the Samsung phone could read the file but now I can't find it on the internet.  Can someone tell me the steps to take to make the Mac music work on a basic cell phone with a music player.  I've done it before but just don't remember how I did it. Thanks, Rick

  • Can my Basic LG Cell Phone be used in England?

I will be in England for 2 weeks and would like to make calls within England. Can my cell phone be used? If not, what is a good alternative?

If its an lg basic phone then most likely no.  A lot of the smartphones are gsm capable but most of the basic are not.  They do have a global rental program.  On the verizon website hover over explore at the top and select global services.  It will walk you through putting your info in to let you know your options...hope that helps:)

  • Why think about Application virtualization before going to VDI or desktop virtualization

    Hi Team,
I am new in ThinApp technology.
My question is that "Why think about Application virtualization before going to VDI or desktop virtualization."
Please help to clear my question.
    Thanks
    Yogesh

With Application Virtualization you'll make any transition easier. While the term isn't really clear to understand for anyone new to the technology I usually find it easier to explain by calling it Application Isolation/Redirection, which actually gives a clearer idea of what it is doing. What ThinApp (or any other Application Virtualization) does is catch calls the operating system does to the registry and files and reroute that to a single contained environment. With Application Virtualization you can deploy your applications without touching the other applications or operating system. The nice thing about ThinApp is that it's clientless so there is no need for any backend or client. The runtime is contained in the ThinApp, which is why you can even use multiple versions at the same time.
With VDI you try to consolidate resources and not buy 1000's of desktops every few years, because physical desktop migrations are a pain. You also try to make managing them easier because basically you'll only have to manage a single desktop (master image). But to get there you will have to do a migration, having Application Virtualization in place will make it an easy project instead of a hard one.
The second reason why you would want to do it is because with ThinApp there is no need to actually deploy the application to the VDI, they can be shown on the machine but actually run from a share or even dynamically mapped with virtual disks.

  • X230 bluetooth does not work - unable to use cell phone as personal hotspot

I am trying to use the bluetooth in my X230 to pair my laptop with my cell phone. I want to be able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot, in case I am in an area with no secure wi-fi. I would have thought that this would be standard feature in a laptop that is touted as a business device, but apparently this is not the case.
I installed both the bluetooth driver and the latest system update, as suggested by Sarbin...
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073834
    and
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS012808
... but it is still not working for me. I am now able to connect my cell phone to my X230, but instead of enabling me to access the internet via bluetooth, a dialogue box appears enabling me to play songs that are on my cell phone using the laptop speakers.
I am disappointed that the bluetooth driver did not come pre-installed on the x230, and I am disappointed that I am not able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot for my x230.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a key step missing from the prior post, but is shown on the link.
After the steps described in the prior post (e.g., disabling all services on the Bluetooth device except NAP), go to <Control Panel<, <Devices and Printers>, right click on the Bluetooth device (e.g., iPhone) that you want to connect to for your internet hotspot access point, and then click on <Connect Using> and then <Access Point>.
Using this method, the Lenovo's Access Connections program does NOT control this internet connection, thus the icon in the system tray will show NO connection in the Lenovo wireless access icon (even though the computer is connected via the Bluetooth connection to the iPhone).
Disconnecting requires going back into Control Panel and disconnecting from the Access Point.
Kinda clunky in my opinion, but I could never get a connection to the internet via a Bluetooth/iPhone Hotspot combination using the Lenovo Access Connections software despite claims in that software's help section saying that such a connection was possible.  (The Lenovo Access Connections Help section even gives instructions to use tabs that don't exist in the software.)

  • Using VI Example Basic Serial Write Read to send AT commands to Cell phone modem error 1073807360

I am using the NI Example VI: Basic Serial Write and Read to send AT commands to a Cell phone acting as a Modem.  I can send AT commands to this phone using Hyperterm when I select the modem driver by name in the hypert port selection field but not as com 7 which it occupies according to device manager modem properties. The basic serial vi does not show the modem driver as a selection, only ports by comX are shown. I get error 1073807360.

Have you tried to put the name you enter in Hyperterminal in the VISA resource control? If Com 7 doesn't show, you can simply type "COM 7" in the VISA resource control. Or use "ASRL::INSTR 7".
Also, make sure the connection in hyperterminal is closed, before you open the port in LabVIEW.
    Hope it helps,
    Wiebe.

I hate my Motorola Droid Razr! After 3 years it has turned out to be a real crappy cell phone. Does not belong in the "smartphone" category. Forever freezes up, doesn't respond to anything I ask it to do. I am purchasing another brand of smartphone and will NEVER go back to Motorola again. I have tried many help/support tutorials and solutions and nothing works.I HATE THIS PHONE!!!

If you've had the phone for 3 years, then it's time for something new. The Motorola phones I've had have been pretty solid, but if you want to switch brands or even providers, then go for it.
Technology changes so quickly that a 3 year old phone, regardless of manufacturer, is likely to seem slow, buggy, laggy - simply because it doesn't have the power to match the network capabilities NOW.  If it's only capable of 3G speeds, it will be slow compared to a phone with 4G capability.  After three years of use, the internal memory may be maxed out, especially if you haven't cleared stuff out, wiped the cache, etc, causing freezing and non-responsiveness.  It may not have enough RAM to effectively run updated apps....
I would say you are due for a new phone - so compare the newest models, go to a store and try them out, and then get whatever brand and model will work best for you.

  • I've had 2 Iphone 6plus stolen last 2 weeks. I am a reasonably careful 50 years old who's had a cell phone since they exist. Surely Apple can think of a way to make these stolen phones more difficult to re-use ?

I've had 2 Iphone 6plus stolen last 2 weeks. I am a reasonably careful 50 years old who's had a cell phone since they exist. Surely Apple can think of a way to make these stolen phones more difficult to re-use ? No matter the precautions, a cell phone is easy to steal. But it seems even easier to re-use stolen cell phones. I had "find my phone", passwords, and another tracking device on my second stolen phone. Thieves just shut it off and wipe it. You would think with all the technology available, these phones could be rendered completely useless if stolen. Unless of course this "second hand market" is considered valuable.

Your best bet is to as soon as you realize your device has been stolen is to go to iCloud.com on your computer and put the device in Lost Mode. This gives you the opportunity to not only add a Lock to the screen, but also to send a message to the lowlife who stole you phone, giving them the opportunity to return it, (of course, don't give them any of your personal information!). But you may be able to find a way to communicate with them anonymously via a 3rd party phone or something to see what can be done.
You will be happy to know that your device and its contents cannot be accessed by the thief, and if you don't care for tracking it, you also can also Erase all of your personal information from the device. This does not remove the Activation Lock, so they still won't be able to use it for anything.....
    Sorry for your troubles,

  • Can't Find a Decent Basic Cell to Replace my Motorola W385

I do some texting so I'd like to get a cell with a full keyboard. A data package is no longer required. I'm years past my contract so that's not a problem. So all the planets are aligned to change phones.
I visited the Verizon store recently.  They recommended the Samsung Intensity or the LG Cosmos 2.  I went home & did a search of reviews on these two phones only to discover that the cell phone world considers both to be mediocre at best.
A review of problems encountered here on other threads seems to confirm this.
Can anyone vouch for these or suggest another alternative?

If you are looking for a NEW basic phone there really aren't any. The newest basic phone Verizon sells came out in Nov 2011. While I could be wrong I have not heard of any newer models of basic phones coming to Verizon. Any that did would probably get mediocre reviews as well. If all you need is text those phone may be fine. Sometimes bad reviews have to do with other tings like the camera or other features you may not be interested in.
