Thinking of getting an iPhone - question on the GPS map application

Hi,
I'm at the end of the contract on my Nokia N95 and am thinking of switching to an iPhone as the N97 doesn't really look up to scratch.
One key deciding factor is whether the iPhone maps application can pre-load maps prior to overseas travel, so I don't have to crank up roaming data charges. The Nokia software is very good in this respect - you can pre-load, plan your routes on the phone etc. before you leave, and not use any data charges for the maps whilst you are away. Can the iPhone do this, & navigate without going on-line?
Thanks in advance!

No, the map application gets it's maps for google maps, which needs an Internet connection to do. There are no preloaded maps. There are turn by turn apps coming out soon that will require you to download map packs but nobody knows if they will need a network connection to work

  • I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone as well, will I be able to sync my iPhone with my existing iTunes library?

Hi, I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone to use as well, will I be able to use them both from the same computer or will there be some problems?

Yes.  There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPods, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.  See this article for different ways to manage multiple devices.

  • Thinking of getting an iPhone 3G

    Hello Everyone
I am currently thinking of getting an iPhone
What I would like to know from current users is their views on them.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
    James

A lot of the love/hate reviews depend on personal preferences.
I consider myself a power user and I have owned BB, WinMo and now iPhone. If you travel, the iPhone is the best of many things. Music, Movies, games, and data, and phone all in one.
I though BB had a terrible phone and poor interface, but it does email great. If you don't mind everything in plain text.
WinMo phones were very good, OS was OK (stability was fine), but it is dated and does NOT do the web very well at all. Most Touchscreens have slide out keyboards that make them a brick, and if they are smartphones they tend to have small screens.
The iPhone does have some shortcomings too though. The biggest for me, is not being able to dial a con call from a calendar meeting. I have to write the number down, I can't click on it. There is no sync of notes or tasks either. Yes, there are 3rd party apps, but they sync to 3rd party server usually.
The app store is a blessing and a curse. If you want to run something that is not on the app store, you have to hack the phone. So the App store is the only official way to get software on the phone - so apple has to approve it.
With BB and WinMo you can install anything from anywhere.
I thought I would not like the touchscreen keyboard, but I do like more all the time.
If i were you, i would spend an hour or two playing with an Iphone at ATT or Apple. You can make calls, send SMS, and see if it meets your needs.

  • IPhone question:  Im trying to update applications on my iphone.  When I do it I'm as for password from a different Apple ID from what I have in Itunes.  How do I change so that both are the same?

IPhone question:  Im trying to update applications on my iphone.  When I do it I'm as for password from a different Apple ID from what I have in Itunes.  How do I change so that both are the same?

All apps are tied to the apple id that it was used to purchase or download the app.
did you use a different id to buy the app?
you can change id, settings - appstore - apple id - log out and log in with correct id.

  • If my iPhone was stolen and i want to reactive an old phone using that same number for the time being while i waited to see if I could get my iPhone back, would the iPhone still work while i was using a re-activated old phone of mine?

If a new SIM is activated on the same account for the same number, any existing SIMs for that number are deactivated.
Why exactly would you care if the SIM in the missing device still works or not?

What do I do when I get my iPhone back from the repair center?

If it was replaced then you should be able to restore a back up of your phone

If you received a note it will tell you what they found and why they could not repair. It depends on the situation

  • Hi. I'm trying to change my Apple ID. I know how to in iTunes under my account on my laptop but how do I get my iPhone to recognize the change? Thanks!

Hi how can I get my iPhone to recognize the changing of my Apple ID in iTunes (my account) on my laptop?
Thanks in advance for your input!

It sounds like you created a new Apple ID rather than changing the email address of your current Apple ID. Apps are tied to the account that they were initially installed with. So the only solution is to delete the app and re-purchase it with the new Apple ID.

  • Can I get my iPhone bill by the serial number, even if I bought it two years ago?

All I want to know is if I can get that information and what do I have to do
Obviusly then just contact the person who bought it for you or the wireless provider to which is was used with?  if you can't do either then you're out of luck.  This doesn't sound legit at all, given the fact that your name won't be on the bill.

What do you mean "you broke it"?
If you dropped it you can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement for $269 USD.

  • Do the iPhone 4 give the gps position over personal hotspot to an iPad 2 wifi only?

    Hello
I want to buy an iPad 2 wifi only.
I have already an iPhone 4.
Do the iPhone 4 give the gps position over personal hotspot to an iPad 2 wifi only?
So I don't need to buy a iPad 2 wifi+3G only for the GPS.
    Thanks.

I have a WiFi only iPad1. I use a Verizon MIFI 2200 hotspot device that is about the size of a larger, thicker credit card. It easily fits into a shirt pocket. It does not connect to the iPad by any cable whatsoever. It is a free standing device. You can connect up to five devices at a time with the 2200. However, like any cell phone, 3G, wireless connection like this, in some areas the reception/connection is great - in other places - not so much. Sort of the anti - "can you hear me now?"

  • How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

The scale in Maps follows your regional settings in System Preferences > Language & Region > Region.
Selecting United States, for example, will use English units (feet and statute miles).
There may be other methods I'm unaware of.

Most of the locations and search are not shown.
choose to go by bus is not working:(
I'm totally disappointed because of that.

Try doing a reset - hold down the sleep/wake button and the Home button together until the Apple logo appears, then let them go and allow the iPad to finish restarting. Then launch Safari and try to open a new tab.
