Thinking of getting another nokia n97

I have a HTC Desire on 3 uk and like the phone but want a second device for sat nav .. i am thinking of bidding on a 6 month nokia n97 locked to 3 uk as I loved the phone when I had it last time and must admit didnt have the dreaded error messages re memory
I notice that the firmware is now v 21 has this improved the phone ???
I love ovi map and cant stand the google map ....
what do you think ... if not what about any of the other nokias that do the free ovi maps ??
ta

My phones have been Vodafone branded, and maybe that's the cause, but I'm not aware that 3 is any better, I can only give advice on my own experience, and I truly wish it mirrored CJ's, but it hasn't, and if anything the phone has got worse with V2.2 (I'm in the middle of it's 3rd hard reset as I type) When it's working it's the best phone I've ever owned, but barely a day goes by without at the very least having to remove the battery. I do have the phone FULL of stuff, but I bought it as a multimedia smart phone, and refuse to run it empty with occasional navigation , WHY SHOULD I ??
Hope you are happy with whatever choice you make, and if it's N97, I hope you're one of the lucky ones !

  • Thinking of getting another mb

ok... i have been using a mb 1.83ghz for the past 90 days, and i have liked OS X... the hardware is OK, though it scratches too easily (black is too much $)....
im now in the market for another laptop for my sister's bday...
she is going to be doing some graphics stuff, a lot of browsing the web, and she is going to a uni where she want to do a little bit of "C" programing...
right now, i am getting her either: a MB 2.0 ghz(white) -- standard; a ThinkPad X Series Tablet; a Compaq Presario 400z; or a Toshiba Satellite U200/U205... non-ILOVEAPPLEANDITSOVERPRICEDSTUFFWHATEVER advise... pls!
    MacBook 1.83 1GB Ram and a 160GB HD (thanks, Apple!)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I don't think the regular MacBook will be enough for her graphic needs (If it has to be an Apple, try the MacBook Pro). The computer on your list that sounds good to me is the ThinkPad.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good fone? I'm not very literate at the specifications of fones but does it play Mp3s? Anyone with first hand knowledge of the fone??

Hi, unfortunately 6822 is not supporting MP3 format.
Similar phone is 7360 but supporting MP3. It's better and cheaper even.
I hope it helps you to decide.

  • Nokia N97 Factory Reset

I have this Nokia N97 now for 5 days and did something wrong. I uninstalled Accu Weather and some other Apps by accident. After I did the Factory Reset all my emails have been still in the phone as well there haven't been the uninstalled Apps back. I mean a Factory Reset should bring the phone kompletely to that level as I bought it. What can I do to get this Nokia N97 to its original settings and Apps back as it has been when I bought it? Further I like to know what settings I've to do with N1, N2 or N3? I've no idea what this means.

You don't want the phone in the original state you bought it in, you want to create as much space as you possibly can on the C drive (phone memory) to help the phone work efficiently. Any apps you need you should be able to download and install on E mass memory. Also set messaging to store all messages on E Mass memory (in messaging , select- options-settings-other-memory in use-E mass memory, and set number of messages to about 500).
Don't know how you reset the phone , but if all your messages were still there without using E to store them, you didn't reset !
I suggest dialing *#7370# followed by 12345 which will reset phone and leave the maximum free memory available, then set up the phone as you want it. BACK UP your contacts, calendar and Notes BEFORE a reset using PC Suite or Ovi Suite, on your computer.
    Good Luck

  • How to get money back for Nokia n97?

     Hi Guys!
I gave up with Nokia N97!!! I have a lot of problems with it. All of them are known. While this 2,5 months of using the device I was so **bleep** off and felt very uncomfortable while using it! Is that what we paid $700 for?? To see how good it is in the official video commercial and how damn SLOW, buggy and how bad the hardware is? I waited for software update and was hoping to see nice and fast device, oh! and working GPS! Instead - it's still the same "smart" which is most worse on nokia market. That's enough!
So now I have this question: How to get money back for Nokia n97 after 2,5 months of usage? or maybe exchange to n900? I will call to customer care center soon but maybe  someone of you have done this already and you can give some tips?
     Thank You!
     Cheers
     Hi guys!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try going into connectivity settings-destinations-internet-then delete all access points. Turn off phone, re-boot, go back into connectivity and automatically search for access points, packet data should be available (it will be O2) select that and you should be ok.

Does anyone have an idea when is the Nokia N97 mini getiing a software update after 11.0.045?

nokia dont give dates for releasing firmware you will just have to keep checking
and remember updates depend on region/product code and network,ie network has to approve the update
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Nokia N97 mini firmware

First of all I would like to excuse me for my bad English as I am from Latvia!
Recently I have bought a new Nokia N97 mini. I have backed up everything and written down all the name of software that I afterwards uninstalled as I thought that it would be better for firmware update process. My goal was to update the phone to the newest firmware for my phone, however I got into problems with all the versions available.
So this is the information on my mobile phone:
    Software version: v 11.0.102
    Software version date: 01-02-2010
    Custom version: 11.0.102.C01.01
    Custom version date: 01-02-2010
    Language set: 13
    Model: N97 mini
    Type: RM-555
    Latest update: Not updated
    >What I understand is that that some custom firmware version is installed there. I should mention that it is brand new and right out of box from Finland so I don`t think that anyone would have made custom version, installed it and repacked the phone.
When I use Nokia Software Updater in my PC (MS Win 7) I got informed about that that the latest possible version is already installed.
When I use Nokia web site using my telephone code written under the battery I got informed that latest available software for my device is: 10.0.020, however in phone there is version 11.0.102.C01.01 installed.
When I was looking for the latest software release for Nokia N97 Mini it was 12.0.110, however there was mentioned that it is only for certain devices.
So the question is if the latest firmware (12.0.110) version custom package is available for my device. If it is possible that there in my device there is a newer custom version (11.0.102.C01.01) installed than my Nokia N97 mini device support (10.0.020) than it should be possible that there is some newer custom firmware (12.0.110) available for my phone.
    =============================================================
So where can I obtain it? And speaking generally were (exact internet address of FTP or HTTP protocol handled server, with login information, if needed) all Nokia N97 mini firmware`s could be found? I would even try to install non-customized version 12.0.110 of it on my phone. Maybe I don`t even need any custom version and all Nokia N97 mini devices can handle any Nokia N97 mini firmware?

I can clearly live without Latvian language and as it is well known that there is no special or no at all services or applications for Latvia region that I could miss. I would better use United Kingdom apps and turn off some really unnecessary services or news.
I would`t reply if there were nothing at all from Latvia in phone. I just need to get it work faster and with less problems form software side. I could use any Nokia N97 mini update version that doesn`t have "Comes with music" services and apps as I don`t have license to it.

  • Nokias N97 new Meomory Management update as a Chri...

    Hi all,
just downloaded today the meomory management update for Nokia N97. After installing it increased the phone memory by 2MB and then automatically uninstalled itself. Think some of cache folders are relocated to mass memory card. in addition to this do you see any other advantages of this update. Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

The MINI got a new fw update, but AFAIK the N97 was abandoned long time ago.
N97 getting Anna? - Not true. The N97 does not have the proper hardware to run symbian 3 nor Anna.
The N97 was a great mistake as you mentioned. May God know why they came up with the brilliant idea of the tiny amount of NAND memory...

  • PETITION FOR WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER FOR NOKIA N97 ...

I and we have been waiting for the Windows Live Messenger to be released for Nokia 5800 and N97 for ages now. I cannot understand why has other Nokia models has it not those models apart from China which have it for Nokia 5800 and N97. What is going on Nokia?  Not many of us like using 3rd party messengers  If any of you agree with me please do post and hopefully they will wake up.

    Ye!
**bleep** is it about you and N97???
We bought a phone we where hoping to be able to use.
And what happened? Ye right, NOTHING!
U don't support your own phone...
N97 is an expensive phone, that you don't get a **bleep** about!
How many of your N97 owners do you think will buy a Nokia next time???
Like ZERO? Because they don't want to pay expensive for nothing...
So start supporting your own phone!!!!

  • Nokia N97 software version 11.X.021 released

Nokia N97 software version 11.X.021 released This software release includes significant improvements in the software stability, especially email, imaging, USB detection, widget stability and display transitions. To enable you to get the most out of your Nokia N97, the release also includes an Ovi store client. Further application updates will become available soon

After update, the issue of "when receive a call and the device is key locked, when you pick the phone it still shows that somebody calling in the screen, even after hanging up". we should reboot the phone.
I supposed this firmware fixed the problem, but I think my confiance to Nokia is decreasing

  • Nokia N97 - faultiest phone ive ever had

Hi guys im new to the forum and its interesting to see just how many people are suffering with issues with their n97. How Nokia have managed to release a phone as buggy as this is unbelievable. I will never buy another Nokia, there are issues with EVERY software update, alarm doesnt work, keypad freezes, unlock/lock doesnt work, cant open SMS, memory always saying it is full. How is it possible to release such a bad phone? Why are they still not capable of fixing the problems?

    @markmacdonnel
Nokia are defently one of the best companys to follow up their phones. Samsung and SE does hardly make updates at all.
Around on different forums you will find people complaining about any phone on the market. Today I read a few posts about the desire freezing and rebooting and peeps wishing they had never bought it.
If you buy a HTC with WM for instance, you will likely feel that it's a xtremely heavy and have a lot of wierd bugs or are non userfriendly. - Giving some time on XDA dev. site, you will find ways to tweak and do whatever you like with it, but it needs some effort.
I have an Iphone my self, which works flawlessly, but I have friends who also have a lot of problems with theirs. - Freezes, reboots, and gpu burn to death.
What I'm saying is that there are faults and issues with every brand and every model.
Nokia sells a enormous amount of devices every year, from cheap basic phones to expensive N and E series devices. Apple have one phone to work with which the majority won't afford. Iphone is great, but Nokia is "bleep" great too.
Take the HTC HD2 which has extremely great hardware, unfortunately a lot of users have now gone almost a year with problems of sms's beeing stuck in the outbox... I've read a "few" comments about that for sure - It was far more expensive than the n97...
Don't misunderstand me, I know that the n97 has been a pain for a lot of users, and I do understand your frustration, but the point is, you find it everywhere... Dell computers, HP computers, gps's, phones, tv's.
Now, if you want to, I and many more here would like to help you with your issues, and perhaps get it to work like it has worked a few months!?
You say it has been working for a few months... Do you remember doing anything to it right before it started to misbehave? - Installing any 3rd party apps, deleteing anything, change settings etc?

  • Nokia N97 Bugs/Issues

    Hi all
I am sorry of there is another thread to this, but this is the firsttime i have used this forum.  I was just wondering if anyone has been having any problems with the Nokia N97.  I got the black one sim free.  I bought it from carphone warehouse.  I had to exchange the phone, due to it going off and rebooting itself. I did the software update and was still having problems with assigned ringtones just defaulting back to the nokia tune all the time!! anyway with my new handset I am having problems with the alarm clock not going off on time!!!! and occasionally when I want to change my profile to silent or outdoor when in work,  it doesnt work, or rather it does, but doesnt show on the fromt of the phone so when i switch it off and putit back on it has changed.  i reset my mob yday and started again cos at one point the phone was flashing on and off but i think that was sumit to do with the web being down or summit with o2.  Im in 2 minds I don't know whether these things will be fixed with another software update or while im within 28 days go and exchange the handset again!! which i dont really want to keep doing and am wary that the next handset cold be the same or worse...
Anyone got any views or advice....cos im lost...I luv the phone, i really do, just want everything to be sound!
    Help...
I have rang nokia care and are still waiting for a call back

    hi there,
why dont u have a look at this thread u could have done a bit of search before posting a new one
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&thread.id=143744
Awaiting for Call back from NOkia care is highly unlikely, Next to impossible ,u can use this discussion board  instead to sort it out
    good luck

  • Nokia N97 LCD Screen Problems - a never ending sto...

    Hello.
I recently purchased a new Nokia N97 smartphone. Everything about the phone is awesome, such as GPS, decent camera, good audio and video playback, etc, except for one thing. First thing first, I always see ghosting or 'burn-in' of images on the screen - quiet clearly on bright backgrounds. This is one of many annoyances as it often is visible when your watching movies and will only go away if the screen is off long enough. Another fault with the screen is that it appears to not refresh fast enough as I can often see what appears to be 'scan lines' running horizontal (if the phone is horizontal). Last, but not least, there appears to be diagonal lines crossing the screen from the top left to the buttom right as well as little matrixes of dots, however they do not seem to be on the LCD itself but rather the resistve layer. This may be just a feature to make the screen more reponsive, but I don't know and it is only visible in bright light, but when it is, you can diffently notice it. Does anyone else notice these strange effects? Will a Nokia Care Center help fix it?
And yes, screen proctectors have been removed.
    Naito.

I have the exact same problems... Some other problems two.
When I get a call and my correspondent quits the communication before I do, the phone freezes and I m forced to turn the phone off to deblock it.
This is really annoying. Some times, just while navigating between menus the screen gets stuck between two menus.
I purchased the phone 2 days ago and as you sed, its a great phone but not worth the pries, far from it.
I m goanna bring it back to the shop to have it change to see if its my phone who has a problem or the entire N97 series.
If that's the case I ll go for an other phone. I have always used Nokia phones, and was happy about them but this time I m am really disappointed.
I ll let you guys know if I get these problems fixed or if it gets worst.

  • Nokia N97 - No Text Message Notification and a Few...

I love my nokia n97, but i'm rapidly falling out of love with it, i have owned it since the end of august and this is the first time i have really hit a major problem with it.
The main problem being is, that the phone no longer gives me a text message notification or noise in that it being on the home screen it does say "1 new message" and i have to constantly have my inbox open to see when i have a new message and constantly check it all the time, for a person who is texting constantly this is probably one of the most annoying problems. If it makes any odds its using the mass memory.
I called the support line and have tried the following:
    - Upgraded the firmware (no effect)
    - Hard reset the phone (without the backed up data on it, the text message notification works, after placing data back on it, problem comes along again)
    - Cleared cache (no different)
    - Hard reset the phone and restored data on phone without the settings (this has worked for a while, less than a day, and is now playing up again)
Along with a few other problems that have started which i am confused whether it is the actual application or my phone that is the issue with this:
Facebook - No longer works proberly, freezes regulary, excessively slow at loading any content up.
AccuWeather - Can never find my location through gps and sometimes unable to load data for a pre-set location.
-At points through the day i do get error messages too that don't really make much sense, "cannot retrieve data" "error" and "internal error, reset phone"
Also when hard resetting the phone the second time round, originally built in applications disappeared so i had to re-download them through Ovi Store again.
Other problems include phone basically freezing regulary mainly on startup, and start up time being long before it lets me push a button, and loading content for the homescreen, the 3 widgets and the speed-dail take excessively longer than they use tooo.
My phone is suppose to be getting 'repaired' within 48 hours, is this true? I got told by a friend that his took 2 weeks+.
Or a replacement and how does this work and who is responsible for giving me a replacement. (Nokia, t-mobile, mobilephonesdirect?)
Could all these problems be linked back to a faulty sim card?
What on earth has happened to my phone, is this fixable, isit a software bug that cannot be sorted, why has this happened, why now, i have never run into any problems before?
Is there something in the data, i can't think of anything, if so what?
    This problem started totally randomly?
Isit somesort of weird memory issue?
If i was to get a new phone, will i not run into the same problem again, what happens if i do? Do they keep replacing it or fixing it all the time?
Sorry for a long post, hope someone here can help......

N97 is going back in again today for them to confirm it is un-repairable and then they are going to send me out a new one.
The guy said it was a software issue which was caused by t-mobile putting their own software on the phone, which is absolutely stupid, if operator's software is going to cause a phone to malfunction, then don't let it on!!!
