Thinking of migrating to Infinity?

Im currently with Zen, had no problems for years but their fibre package is expensive and capped (although it does have fixed ip's and no throttling).  My exchange FTTC live date is the end of March 2012 and the exchange has no LLU currently.
If I stay with Zen will they just be reselling me the Infinity service as there is no LLU?

So basically, if I stay with my current ISP I will get the same speeds as a BT subscriber, taking into account the service differences, capping, no throttling etc?  Are the package differences the only way to influence the quality of service without LLU?
What I'm getting at is; why pay £38 per month for 100gb uncapped and an £80 setup fee and only 2mbit uploads and great tech/customer service when I can get the same DL speeds and up to 10mbit upload speeds, no FUP but peak throttling for certain packets, no fixed ip but I can live with that (use dynamic dns), **bleep** service for no setup fee and £25 per month.  Contracts are similar 12 and 18 month.
I've read loads of negative Infinity posts, but forums are usually full of problems rather than praise and I've never had any issues with my ADSL service.  Do I stick with the cap to ensure a consistent service or go for the better deal?

    Well, a couple of thoughts:
    1. In CS3 if you have your photos converted to DNG format [and I think you can convert TIFFs] then ACR 4 that is included as a plug in when you installed CS3 [I hope I have the terminology right here, I do lots of things rote from previous experience and sometimes my directions are off] will open and DNG file [that I am sure of]. Then you can resize using the ACR controls. You can open multiple files and operate on them all at once.
    2. I think you can do this in CS3 directly as well since you can operate on multiple files there as well. The problem you will have is available ram. If you start opening 30 MB files [lots of them] you will bog down pretty fast.
    3. I think this discussion has got beyond the bounds of LR and I am willing to continue the discussion off line at [email protected]

  • Migration from Infinity CMS to Webcenter Sites

    Hi,
If anybody worked on migration from Infinity CMS to Webcenter Sites CMS, please let me know how it is done.
Which tools can be used (any 3rd party available?). Or can we develope some custom tool or component.
The data to be migrated included pages, images, videos,...
Its urgent. Your help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
As far as I know GSF is add-on to Oracle WebCenter Sites or FatWire which is not supported by Oracle. Hence, you may have to built some custom element to achieve this.
If you are following a certain URL pattern, then you can create one CSElement just to copy gsf url to vanity URL field after you have configured your WebRoot properly (which I have NOT tried though). Otherwise its better to start from scratch by defining WebRoots and URL patterns for your asset types and then simple create one element to just edit and save all existing assets so that Vanity URLs for those assets are updated.
Check more about URL patterns here - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29542_01/doc.1111/e29636/config_vanity_url.htm#WBCSA7473

  • Thinking of moving to Infinity

    Hi,
Im currently with Virgin Media on the 100mbs service which is over contested and thinking of moving to Infinity. I was wondering if i could get some answers on some installation issues im thinking about and hoping to get them sorted if possible before i place my order.
I live in an apartment so everything is on the same floor (no stairs)
Currently the master phone sockets are in the hallway (both BT and VM) but my computer is in the bedroom. I do not wish to use wireless as i use the computer for online gaming. My question is, will the BT engineer fit a new socket in the bedroom so that the hub can be next to the computer and directly connected and if so what cost will be involved if any with fitting this.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give, Jay.

    Hiya,
When the guy installed my Infinity service, i asked him if i could have the main socket moved upstairs. He did it free of charge.
He routed the new line from the master socket to my bedroom and installed the new socket there..
    Hope this helps!

  • Thinking of ordering BT Infinity

    Hi.
I am thinking of ordering the BT Infinity broadband and phone package though am having serious doubts over the use of throttling.
I have emailed support and got the reply...
"We cannot answer this question until your broadband has been activated."
I tried the Live Chat option and all they said was "No we don't". Then when I challenged them and said that iin the T&C's it said BT did throttle P2P appsm, they then hung up.
Really, really awful customer service so far BT!
Can anyone confirm whether BT throttle or speed manage...
    Spotify
    Steam
    Online Gaming
    Iplayer and online video/audio streaming
    Many thanks.

The only throttling is  when using P2P protocols at peak times eg.  1700  to 0000
and weekends as stated in  BT's T&C's

  • Is anyone thinking of migrating away from Messenger?

Our organization has been on Messenger for a lot of years. I think nearly since it first came out. We still use GroupWise and Zen, but we are now an Active Directory shop. All our Blackberry's are gone and everyone uses iPhones. My users are asking me about mobile client for IM. I've put off adding 2 new divisions on the old Messenger server because I kept watching the roadmap thinking the new version was coming out. It has slipped a couple years now and I can't wait any longer.
What other enterprise level IM systems are out there? Of course, there's very little to no money for this project. I saw another post that said Cisco UCM bundles their Presence server and Jabber licenses. We have the same licensing, but I was never aware if that was bundled for us, we are checking into it now.
Are there any other's I should look at?

We also are in about the same situation. We have Cisco UCM and are looking at Migrating everyone over to Jabber.
Well actually not a migrating, just starting fresh on Jabber.
Currently we maintain a central contact list and only that list can use Messenger.
Keeping this contact list updated is a pain and then killing everyone to activate the change by stop/starting the service is not desirable.
I was hoping for a refresh of Messenger myself as well.

  • Thinking about upgrading to infinity but moving ma...

My master socket is upstairs currently and there is an extension that runs from that and the wire goes around the outside of the house and enters into the hallway. I was ideally hoping to get it all moved and ready for installation before even booking an installation appointment.
Would BT disable both the sockets and install a new master socket at the front of my house In a front room? A hole would need to be drilled through the wall then the new master socket connecting up?

Thanks for the response is that home wiring solution you speak of internal?
Because like I say I want the master socket moving to a front room which will require a hole drilling through the outside wall and the cable directing in (I don't really want extra wires running internally when all it needs is one wire running outside the house and then in). I have no need for the 2 sockets currently connected and would happily have them disconnecting so the new master socket would be the only socket in the house.
I doubt the infinity engineer would do this thats why I stated i'd have no problems getting this done beforehand but was just wondering if BT would do this for me and at what sort of cost. Think I was hoping someone on this forum had done something similar and could give me their impressions on this regarding cost etc.

  • Company is thinking to migrate oracle db to Postgres plus advance server

    Dear all,
We are running with Oracle 11g/10g servers in RAC environment and now company is thinking for going Postgres Plus advance server.

Or what kind of difficulty may come
My database size would be around 3 to 4 TB
Its online trasaction processing and 24/7 application.
Frond end may be Java. (EJB/struds/Hibernate)

I want to know how much this feasible? if any one has experience.
Or what kind of difficulty may come The choice of a database is not a purely technical one. It will depend on
many factors - the principal one being available expertise. If you
have PostgreSQL expertise to hand, then by all means use that
    database.
Mogens Nørgaard (founder member of the Oak Table http://www.oaktable.net/)
and a member of the Oracle community of considerable standing said in
the book Oracle Insights says that only the eBays and UPS's of this world
need database features beyond Oracle 7.3.
PostgreSQL certainly has a feature set well beyond that spec.
My database size would be around 3 to 4 TB
Its online trasaction processing and 24/7 application.
Frond end may be Java. (EJB/struds/Hibernate)Your programming environment is irrelevant - all databases have JDBC connectivity
and can work with all major development environments.
Your decision should not be about this - development frameworks change every
two-three years - your data is forever.
My own opinion is that Oracle is overkill for many of the applications for which it
is used - very expensive licencing - don't get me wrong - Oracle is a very impressive
database with a huge number of features that would cost a fortune to implement in-house
(which "tragically" is what many companies try to do).
I don't know the ins and outs of your own application and how much use you make
of Oracle's features - if you can get the same functionality from PostgreSQL for
less money, then go for it, just recognise if there is functionality that you use that
you might have to reimplement if it's not native to PostgreSQL.
DIY database functionality is guaranteed* to be buggy and cause nothing but headaches.
I have refused work in the past with companies that have their own "proprietary"
(they use words like "efficient", "productive" and "customisable"). The problems are that
if you have a problem/issue/bug you can't Google - you're up the creek, but with
PostgreSQL there is a solid user community.
Report back here after you've gone through the process and let people know how it
went - the positives and the negatives - I'd certainly be interested in hearing how the
    process turned out for you.

  • Thinking about migrating from BPC MS 7.0 to BPC NW 7.0 or 7.5

Has anyone gone through a migration from the MS 7.0 platform to the NW 7.0 platform?  If so, what were the biggest challenges that you came across?  Do you see any benefits from doing this?

    Matt -
Migration to BPC NW is not straight forward and here are few areas of concern:-
    1. Complete re-write of SSIS to SAP Process Chains
    2. Re-visit (almost a re-write) your Script Logic
    3. Fix Reprots/Input Schedules
    4. Post Migration:
        a) Migration doesn't take time and goes well in weekend window (say 10-12 hrs..even less)
        b) Post migration validation process takes a long period (depending on how much functionality you have rolled-out in BPC MS)
    5. Security, which is different in BPC
    6. Case-sensitivy is another thing to consider (tool will take care of it)..still need to validate
Hope this gives you some idea.
    Cheers!

  • Thinking of converting to Infinity

    Hi
If anyone has any experience, or advice on the following it will be much appreciated.
I currently have BT Total Unlimited Business Broadband provided via ADSL on my home telephone number.  The broadband used to be on a business telephone line but was moved when the business closed in order to save the cost of an exchange line that wasn't used for any calls.  The move was also made to keep the "btconnect.com" email addresses that were in use for personal messages and had been in existence for over ten years.
I am a BT shareholder and have received a tempting offer to take up BT Infinity 2, inclusive of Anytime calls, if I switch to a home Infinity service.
I can't find a straight answer as to whether I can keep the old btconnect email addresses (we have 7 or 8 in use) or whether they will disappear in favour of a single new btinternet address.  I can find mention of the ability to set up email aliases but not whether I can have more than one actual address.
There seems to be some question as to whether the existing home telephone number will be ceased and a new one provided.  My current number has been in use here for nearly 40 years so I would not wish to have to change it.
In an attempt to sort out a fault last year, an Openreach engineer installed a Home Hub 3 (incorrectly as it turned out when it kept falling over) but the wireless range was far worse than my old Netgear DG834GT and devices less than 20 feet away could not get a reliable connection.  I don't see why it should be, but is the home hub 3 any better with Infinity or would I probably end up with a range extender (Powerline maybe)?  Opening ports on the home hub 3 (for use with an XBox) didn't seem to be as successful as on the Netgear router.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes I've checked the BT estimates - 54.5/18M for Infinity 2.  The ADSL broadband we've got not is around 5/0.8M so there is potentially a big difference if we can get round the email and router issues..
We had a fault last year, coincidentally (??) when the local exchange was being upgraded when the broadband kept losing sync and our speed dropped from 10/0.9M to 2/0.3.  That was when we acquired the home hub as the engineer who eventually came out was blaming the problem on our old Netgear router.  The fact that I connected another router with no difference didn't convince him.  When the home hub kept falling over I found out he hadn't installed it properly anyway.  I wasn't comvinced the home hub was new as the engineer went out to his van and reappeared with just the hub and the power unit, no other cables, paperwork, etc.  That initial experience, and the very poor wireless coverage (which BT technical support said wasn't of any interest as they don't guarantee it will work anyway) together with the difficulty of getting the correct ports open for XBox use don't inspire me with confidence.

  • HH5: Clarification on disconnections if possible.

    Hi,
Thinking about migrating to Infinity, I currently have Sky fibre.  I know I am asking for speculation, but having read many posts about disconnections with users of HH5, not everyone appears to think the modem is the cause.  I have the BT modem (Echolife HG612), so if I continue to use this with HH5 am I likely to get disconnections or will HH5 be stable?  In 11 months with Sky, to my knowledge I have never had a disconnection.  I would appreciate some opinions.

My HH5 is currently one of the disconnecting bunch, have raised it and currently looking for a solution via MODS, read this as this will state the issue on the disconnection -
    https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/PPP-LCP-Send-Termination-Request-User-reque...
I'm most likley getting a engineer out to check the lines and the cab but cant see this is going to solve the issue but willing to give anything a shot, currently at the moment disconnection is being blamed to interference, according to BT the HH5 and firmware are all okay and not to blame.... .... .....
Some people from the thread i listed above said that they was trying different setups (routers and modems) to see if that would solve the issue, but as the thread got closed, havent been able to find out, also since the thread closed new people have come forth with the same issue.
BT state that if your line drops more then x10 a day it will be classed as a fault and DLM will kick in, but any less then 10 then deal with it, you can raise it and helpfully get solution but just something you have to deal with, myself coming from a BB connection of 10yrs which never lost connection to the internet, its abit hard to just deal with it.
I'm happy with infinity, I was on 6mb and 0.34mb speeds now im on 56mb-64mb and 20mb which is great but if it wasnt for the fact i play online games and skype family the issue wouldnt have been made aware to me, the disconnect and reconnect takes about 1min to get back up and running again, usually when it happens your speed either goes up or down. So just bear the down time as a factor.
At the end of the day I may take a risk and buy the DSL-N66U as a replacement as the 2 HH5 i currently have made no difference to the issue...

Using migration assistant I transferred my complete MacBookPro to my nex iMac. Now I find out that all jampacks are missing in GarageBand. Can anyone advise? Thanks!

I would think the migration assistant transfers 100% of all contents...
When you are setting up a new Mac you can use Setup assistant the moment you boot the mac the first time. Setup Assistant will usually transfer everything. If you miss tha t moment and later launch Migration Assistant some library files will not be transferred. Migration assistant will not transfer system files, only User Files and Application files. I think, that is why your files are missing.
so could you please tell how this copying is done?
Best take an external drive with plenty of free disk space and plug it into your MacBook Pro.
Open the System drive, your Macintosh HD in the Finder and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "GarageBand". Copy the folder
/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/  to your external drive by dragging it there.
Then open again the folder "Library" on your Macintosh HD, and this time open the folder "Audio" inside. Copy the folder
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/
to your externall drive. Eject the drive and plug it into your iMac.
Now compare the AppleLoops folders and instrument library folders and copy all missing items over to the corresponding folders in the iMac's Library.
Afterwards you need to reindex the loops, by dragging any loop you newly installed onto the Loop Browser in garageband, see: Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand

    Hi,

I am facing error when I am migrating resitory files from brio 8 to Interactive reporting version11 environment.
    Error [[ENOENT]] Accessing path: /c2cnas/Oracle/Hyperion_Home/EPMSystem11R1/products/biplus/opencat
when I checked at my Linux server I do not see "opencat" directory under /c2cnas/Oracle/Hyperion_Home/EPMSystem11R1/products/biplus path. I don't know why this directory or folder was missed after Hyperion Interactive Reporting Installation. Do we need to create this folder manually for newer versions( 11.x)?
Has anyone aware of this error? will it impact my migration? I am thinking that migration utility is looking to place .oce files in this directory but it could not find. is my understanding correct?
    Please help me on this.

Usually in 11.1.2.1 the folder will be  "EPMSystem11R1\products\biplus\data\Open Catalog Extensions"
    I haven't seen a opencat folder.
Can you check the migration logs. Also check permission for the user on the folders.
