Thinking of upgrading from LE7.2 to LE8 - Any caveats?

Hi
I'm currently running Leopard on a 1.25Ghz eMac.
I will soon be upgrading my RAM to 2GBs (Yes, supposedly the eMac can really handle 2GBs of RAM). Currently I've only got 768MBs of RAM installed.
I'm also using a Presonus Firebox and M-Audio MIDISport2X2.
I have a Fractal Audio Axe-FX (multi-fx + amp modeler for guitar), an old DX7 and a Korg X5DR. Just a small writing studio for now.
I'll probably be buying an Axon AX100MKII MIDI guitar system in the near future as well.
Are there any problems with LE8 (compared to LE7) being experienced across the board by users?
Known serious bugs, etc.?
Any problems I should expect with my current gear/software as stated above?
Are the new features improvements or do they create workflow problems?
Etc., etc.
Feel free to rant and/or praise wildly.

It's a good investment.
LE-8 does use more CPU resources than 7.2, but there are some workarounds posted here and there on this forum. It's worth the guitar amp pro plugin alone, and it has upgraded FX plugins, especially EQs. You can create you own sampler instruments, with your own samples, with the EXS24 (its not just a sample player in LE 8). Plus, in addition to the LE7 synths, there's a really cool ES2 synth w/vector synthesis, and a vocoder synth. All cool. It has a completely flexible Aux system that is worth its weight in gold (compared to the rather restricted LE 7.2 Bus assign). Plus as many inputs as you'll ever need (64), but your Mac couldn't push that anyway. All of the Garageband instruments. Apple Loops. Did I mention the Ultrabeat drum synth/ beat designer?
Good thing is, you won't lose your LE-7.2. It remains available to you after you install LE-8.
As far as your interfaces go, I've read around here that you should get the latest drivers, cruise the forums, etc etc.
I'm using the Alesis io|26. So far I've tracked up to 16 channels at a time (using an external FW EZQuest Pro Audio+ drive) without a hiccup.
It was the best 90 bucks I've ever spent for a musical product (the upgrade).

That's depend of your projects and needs.
FCE is the swiss army knive of video editing and iMovie is the fisher-price.
FCE needs many much more time to master, it's less automated, it had less "canned" transitions, it's a totally different way of editing than iMovie, but you can build almost anything you want... if you master it.
A good hammer is nothing without a good carpenter and an hammer is too much heavy to plant a needle.
Be prepare to follow a steep learning curve, but you'll get reward if you persist.
FCE is the Final Cut Pro's little brother: once your master it, you will be at home in FCP if you upgrade.
Yes you can do 4 corners PIP if you want, and remember that in FCE there are many ways to achieve one goal.
This forum is full of switchers from iMovie to FCE and generally they stay with FCE after the switch.

This is my "About This Mac" ... it shows I have Intel i7 CPU. If you are running SL, you at least have Intel, but would need at least Core2Duo an 2 GB (most people suggest 4 GB) RAM.
If you want to run Lion, remember that the discussions in this forum from last summer when Lion first came out (and since) were highly charged at times. Certain features that vanished or were added caused great heartache for some. Others love Lion, though. And some live with the changes waiting for any fixes they would desire.

AND
Recall that you can clone your SL to an external disk to keep it safe. Then you can "experiment with" the new OSX (Lion or ML) until you know it works for you while still having your old SL safe in case you need it.

Clearly there are some applications I need to remove and no doubt my HD could do with a 'spring clean'. My Mac 'Safe Booted' when I turned it on this morning.
I use many different softwares, some web-based. The decision to upgrade to OSX Yosemite is because I was unable to attend a Webinar this week using GoToMeeting downloadable software. GoToMeeting have upgraded their system and my OS is no longer supported. Other websites like VImeo no longer support my version of Safari. I tend to use Chrome if Safari isn't compatible.
Problem description:
I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. However I have noticed that my MacBook Pro becoming ‘slow’ over the last 3 weeks and therefore might have some issues that need to be resolved before I even consider installing OSX Yosemite. Thinking of upgrading from ADSL to infinity - cele...

I'm thinking of upgrading from ADSL to Infinity to get fibre TV. At the moment I have:
* Unlimited ADSL 17Mb + Evening/Weekend Calls for approx £11.50/month
The website upgrade for existing customers is £33 for Entertainment Plus + Unlimited BT Infinity 1 + Weekend Calls.
However for new customers, it states a 'CELEBRATION DEAL ENDS 18TH JUNE', in which this is reduced to £22.50.
Is there any way that existing customers can get these deals, or are we just stuck with the expensive route?

Thinking of upgrading from my macbook to macbook pro just can't decide on the 15in or 17in, any suggestions

I am thinking about upgrading my macbook to a macbook pro, any suggestions on whether or not I should get the 15in or the 17in.

I got the 17" anti-glare high res and simply loving the heck out of it.
I can see the screen in sharp perfect detail in just about any environment with no reflections on the screen.
It displays 1080i (1920 x 1000) video in full resolution on it's 1920 x 1200 pixel screen.
Contrary it's much thinner than many 17" PC's of the same size and even less thinner than my previous 15" MacBookPro!
I got the 2.3 ghz model with the awesomely fast Radeon 6750M in it, I can even play 3D games in Windows in a virtual machine OS in OS X! A real sweet machine.
The performance of the 2.2 and the 2.3 ghz 15" and 17" MacBook Pro are just about the same.
The performace of the 2.0 Ghz 15" is less due to it's less than stellar video card. I would avoid this model.
The 13" is all integrated graphics, no 3D gaming or heavy video use, I would avoid it as well unless you don't have a need for heavy duty graphics.
Some people get a expensive workhorse machine like the 15" or 17" and then carry around a iPad or a very cheap Windows or even more secure Linux netbook for on the go purposes.
In this sour economy I get nothing but mistreatment towards my precious MacBook Pro, so I tout the light cheap box around in public for the basics and if I lose it, drop it or gets stolen it's no big loss.
If one has a vehicle then the weight factor really isn't a major difference, it's mostly if your in a major city, taking trains, subways or walking a lot that a light weight device is more preferred.
Some people have considered a iPad too weak for general use , need to run Flash and Office programs, need a real keyboard and got thus a MacBook Air instead.
So you have to find the right balance of hardware that works for your situation and needs. It might be two devices.

Upgrade from LE7

When I upgrade to logic studio, will Express 7 still be available to launch older projects in if I want/need to? Or will it be effectively gone from my machine altogether?

I've only had LE8 for a few weeks. Things are located in different places in LE8 than they were in 7 which takes some getting used to but that came quickly enough. You also get the Vocoder synth which wasn't mentioned in the promo but is a nice bonus. I found it much easier to integrate my external synth with LE 8. One nice feature is that documentation is clear and easy to follow. For some reason there seem to be less presets in some areas with LE8 than LE7. The channel strip presets for Male Vocals, for instance, are far fewer than with LE 7. As for the new interface it seems a bit cluttered at times. I'd far rather work with with a full window in matrix edit (now called piano roll) than with that little strip at the bottom of the arrange area. I feel that way that way with most the windows with the possible exception of the sample editer. Thankfully the large window option is still available. I'm only using a 17" intel iMac and right now a really wish I had one of the new 24" jobs because than you really could have two full windows open at once. The piano sample in the Express 8 EXS 24 promo on this site is not actually included with LE8 which is a drag. I only have 2 gigs ram but so far I haven't got anywhere near maxing out my cpu usage. I do think, however, that an intel mac is the way to go with this program or Pro Studio. By the way unless you've already got most of the sounds included with Pro Studio and don't need the surround sound, main stage and movie sincing options (my situation) it's definately worth the extra few hundred bucks to go Pro. Upgrading later to pro from LE 8 is the same price as upgrading to pro from LE 7 now.

IBook G3, thinking about upgrading from panther to tiger?

This is my first apple computer that I've owned, it's my mom's hand me down after she got herself a spanking new macbook pro but it actually runs decently fine, iBook G3 500Mhz, 40gb HD, 640mb memory
It currently runs a clean copy of panther 10.3.9, but with some effort, I think I could get my hands on tiger as well. However, before I do, would it be worth it to try to upgrade it on this laptop? I think panther runs fine, but I hear for each successive mac osx, it's been running faster, so in that case, I'd try to get it, but if I happen to find that it's about the same or worse, then maybe not worth the effort. I definitely like to be up to date with my software and such, so it would be nice if people with ibook G3's with specs similar to mine could tell me their experience going from panther to tiger.

Here are images of the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, referred to by cornelius, that must be used.
If you know what to look for, those install discs, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, etc.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
As the Tiger Media Exchange Program is no longer being offered, if the iBook doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

Once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
And additional RAM may speed the iBook up.

Can i upgrade from 10.6.8 to any other operating system

I would like to upgrade the software on my MacBook Pro but don't know how.

You can upgrade directly to OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), which you can get from the Mac App Store.

I can't open my iPhoto after I upgraded from the app store. Any suggestions?

FF gets veery slow after upgrade from 3.6.28 to any later version incl 12

Removal, restart and reinstallation of 3.6.28 cures the problem. The slowness is expressed when changing pages and/or srolling.
The computer is Vaio VPCX11S1E lightweight w/ 128 GB SSD, 2GB RAM, Awast antivirus and Zone Alarm firewall.
No private plugins have been nsntalled

Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

We do need to know the precise model number as different dv7s max at 8 or 16 gigs. Generally, most people have no need to add memory beyond 8 gigs. What makes you think you need to do this? You might want to consider a solid state drive instead. Your laptop holds 2 hard drives and you can move the original into the second slot and use an SSD for booting Windows.

Server Upgraded from 2008 R2 to 2012 any potiential problems?

Our Corporate 2008 R2 image as some applied image settings built in it. They have not gotten around to building a 2012 image with the settings so an 2008 R2 base image with the applied image settings was updated to 2012 and then saved as a template.
Are there any potential downfalls to this mentality. I will be putting a 2013 SharePoint farm and SQL 2012 on this image and just want to get some other input.

I always prefered a clean install, but if you can't get to know all setting then you have not much choice. They can't list all policy and settings applied to that image ? What you will do when another upgrade will be neccesary ?
Don't forget to sysprep the image before installing anything on it. Some hypervisor does not do it automaticly when you clone/ use a template and you should be ok.
