If you are running Lion first upgrade to 10.7.2.
Please let us know how page outs test (see below) under normal workflow. Then retest in 32-bit mode and with a restart running only Aperture.
First thing is to evaluate whether or not you have adequate RAM by looking at the Page Outs number under System Memory on the Activity Monitor app before starting a typical Aperture work session; recheck after working and if the page outs change (manual calculation of ending page outs number minus starting page outs number) is not zero your workflow is RAM-starved. Ignore the pie charts and other info in Activity Monitor.
If your test showed that page outs increased significantly during operation you can
• add RAM
• and/or simply try to run Aperture by itself
• and/or switch from 64-bit operation to 32-bit operation (which will make some additional RAM space available).

Since upgrading to lion and updating HP software my printer ( HP photosmart D5160 driver 3.3.0) will not print to CD/DVD,when I try it says "your printer does not support CD printing". any help will be welcome.

I see those are old posts above but I'm just now having the same problems. I have the original software CD that came with my Photosmart D5160 printer but I can't load it. I get the message "You can't open the application "HP Installer" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". So I don't have that going for me, which is not nice! But I couldn't really care less about that if I can just find a CD labeler software that will print from my Mac to the D5160. I'd rather by new CD labeler software than a new printer. I've tried a few free CD labeler software downloads, including iWinSoft Label Maker, but nothing has worked so far. I think there's an answer somewhere; I'm able to print documents on regular paper using this printer, but I only bought it (many years ago) to print CD labels and some pictures. It's been used only sparingly and it's been in storage since I bought my Mac 3 years ago, mainly because a I got a free printer with my purchase. Any help is vertainly appreciated!!!

I recently upgraded to Lion, and immediately started having consistent problems with Open Office 12 (would hang, and need a Force quit to recover). Has anybody else seen these problems? Any solutions other than going back to Snow Leopard? (I did). But I'd like to use iCloud with iPad.

Hi Pete. The repair of disk permissions can help resolve  any application crashing or misbehaving.
As for Lion and the two camps, I think that is a reasonable observation. In my office we have about a dozen Mac's and about one third of those Mac's had problems after updating from 10.6 to 10.7. The main problem for these Mac's was a loss of wifi stability. But for the other two-thirds, Lion was a smooth transition.
Personally, my Lion experience was fine. But I did get a new i7 MacBook Pro with Lion already installed and only had to migrate my user data from a 10.6.8 TM backup.
So I think that is a key for Lion's operational success. A clean install of Lion on a new Mac would not cause too many operational issues. But an installation, or more correctly, an update to Lion from SL increased the chances of failure for some users - especially when old software & plugins resided on the Mac. And I would say that they were the people that you saw at the Apple store.
As for the "latest release of Lion fixed my problems" statement, my experience with these and other forums is that people mostly only go there to complain about the problems they are having. If they are having no problems then they either keep it to themselves or they try to help the users who are experiencing trouble...

It is indeed all down to what you need to do with your machine.   Snow leopard is an excellent OS and as Baltwo suggests you have to check out your current apps and programs because PPC won't work on any higher OS than the one you have.
Andy's comment is very interesting and, I suspect, insider knowledge based     Certainly I would wait for Mavericks now it is on the horizon ... and then add six months or so for the bugs to be ironed out.
Good luck, whatever you do.   I'm staying with Snow Leopard.

  • HT4773 I have upgraded to Lion and I have a new Apple keyboard, however none of my function keys work correctly. Any idea what is the solution?

I have upgraded to Lion and have a new keyboard. The problem I have is that the function keys are not working correctly - none of them. F1 -> F6 are not working at all and F7 - F12  do what F1 etc are supposed to do. Any ideas for a solution?
    Thanks in advance

That message is telling you to update iTunes on your computer, not your phone. You need iTunes 11.1 on your computer in order to sync your devices.

  • After i upgrade to lion and updated logic pro to version 9.1.6 stops responding when loading "Ryu Chords" it stops responding, do anyone have any ideas what problem it can be?

After i upgrade to lion and updated logic pro to version 9.1.6 stops responding when loading "Ryu Chords" it stops responding on certain moment, i tried to reinstall freshly and update to version 9.1.5 but problem same so at this moment version is 9.1.6. I tried 64bit too but no changes. And the thing is that i need studio and i need to sort this problem quick.
Please everybody if you had same problem give me answer or any idea what to do
    Thanks

The sample rate is not 128 or so, you probably mean the buffer size...
But the performance drop makes sense: switching between a 64 bit process and 32 bit doesn't come free: it cost performance and creates a jitter, which also either shows as performance lost or instability.
You really have to move away from outdated 32 bit AudioUnits, sorry. Ask the vendors to finally release 64 bit versions, it has been several years since 64 bit is available.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • I recently upgraded to Lion and i find that my computer is running slow and applications are crashing.  For example I have Word 2011 for Mac and it crashes all the time I end up losing my work.  It often happens when I'm in notebook trying to record.

i recently upgraded to Lion and i find that my computer is running slow and applications are crashing.  For example I have Word 2011 for Mac and it crashes all the time I end up losing my work.  It often happens when I'm in class using notebook and when I press record my computer starts thinking and it freezes.
Also, I feel that it overheats often and my battery runs out pretty quickly.  I had the macbook (black) and this never happened before.  I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if there is something with my computer.I bought my computer summer 2010, I don't think this should be happening. Please Help......

This is exactly what keeps happening to mine too.  I was at a conference taking notes, and I was
using the Notebook template, and doing some audio recording simultaneously.  About 3 hours into the conference (not consistently recording, but on and off with the sessions) my file wouldn't save anymore, saying something like "File cannot be modified while in use with another program" and "Invalid file name" when I would go back into my folder to look for it). I tried installing some updates from Microsoft, and when I restarted, I was at least able to open my old notes again, and so far it looks like the audio was working.  However, today at the conference, the same thing happened again, but I wasn't actively recording any audio (though after I had copy and pasted my second file of notes into the original, I went back to using it after re-naming it).
Does the crash happen to you under similar cirucumstances?  The update might help a little, but it is definitely not the solution.  Does anyone have any solutions?  Lion shouldn't be this buggy... I moved to Mac to get away from the garbage of bugs and compatibility issues...

  • Size of Aperture Libraries After Mt. Lion and Aperture 3.3.2

Has anyone else seen a major reduction in the size of the current Aperture library after updating to Mt. Lion and Aperture 3.3.2? Mine seems to be 1/3 the size of the old library. However, the other question is; does the old libarray need to be saved for the Updated Library to work propoerly? I found all of this out by doing a clean up. Was planning to throw the old Aperture libray out until I saw how different the sizes were. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions out there? I'm guessing I can get rid of the old labrary?

What version of Aperture are you comparing to?
How did you create the upgraded library from the previous library? Usually Aperture replaces the old library by the upgraded library in place, so I do not understand, why you now have an old and a new version?
Aperture 3.3 does no longer create previews for small original files, if there are no additional versions. That may account for a difference in library size. Also you may not yet have an iPhoto photo cache.
    Other things to check:
Does your upgraded library contain the same number of images, or did you accidentally delete images?
Does the upgraded library contain missing images (you can check this by setting a filter on the Photos view - add a file status rule and look for images with the file status "Missing" or "Offline").
Compare the file sizes of the "Masters" folder inside the library packages: Ctrl-click the libraries  and select "Show Package Contents"from the pop-up menu. Then do "File > Get Info" on the Masters folders. If the Masters folders do have a considerable discrepancy in size, then probably images are missing.
Whatver you do, before you delete the previous library version. make sure your backup of the library is in working condition.

  • Thinking of upgrading to Lion. Need opinions

I have a MBP, about 2 yrs old. Thinking of upgrading to Lion so that I can take "advantage" of icloud. Heard conflicting advice as to weather or not its a good idea. Have all the issues been sorted out? I'd love some real insight from users here
    thanks

You will get conflicting advice regarding just about any technology purchase or upgrade you ever consider.  With every change some people love it and some people hate it. Lion has generated more passionate responses than most (although if you go back and look at some of the posts from when Snow Leopard first came out you will see a lot of negative comments there as well).  This is most likely due to the combination of new features that are very controversial (versions, autosave, Launchpad, Mission Control), the loss of support for older Power PC software, and that some users continue to have stability issues.
For answers to your Adobe questions look here.
Bottom line, as Kappy says, if you want iCloud you need to upgrade. If you do want to upgrade, make sure the software you currently use is compatible with Lion or has a compatible upgrade available that you are willing to buy.  Your hardware should be fine running Lion.  You will be happiest if your MBP has at least 4 GB of memory.  If you run memory-intensive programs or tend to have lots of apps open simultaneously put in as much memory as you can afford.  A two year old MBP should support 8 GB.  That's what I have in my late 2008 MacBook.

  • For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care via their web cam.  This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center since.  I get an error message for java webcam class not found.  All of my software is up to date--suggestions?

For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care center via their web cam.  This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center.  I get an error message for Java plug-in 1.6.0_29 ....webcam class not found.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest unless there's a URL to the problem stream that someone here can try. Otherwise we can't test it to try and determine what might be wrong.
BTW, make sure they're testing it with a Mac, not with a Windows system. If they test only with Windows, what they say is or is not working doesn't mean much.
    Regards.

  • I upgraded to Lion and now my iPhoto won't open and I don't know where my pictures are

I upgraded to Lion and now i don't have Iphoto anymore.  Where did all of my pictures go??

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • After upgrading to Lion and iTunes 10.4, cover flow not displaying song playing. Why not?

Since upgrading to Lion and iTunes 10.4, cover flow is not displaying the currently playing song. It will simply display the first cover in the playlist. Also, the screen saver starts during playback, unlike Snow Leopard. Any ideas on how to fix? I have already repaired disk and permissions but problem persists.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I tried restarting my mac and my iphone a bunch of times, reinstalling iTunes after deleting dozens of files, and it didn't help at all.
I re-installed X-Code (had to use Activity Monitor to kill iTunes Helper in the middle of the install) and then my iPhone synced again!

  • I've just upgraded to Lion and finder no longer shows how much free disk space I have left

Hi I've just upgraded to Lion and when im now in finder i can no longer see how much free or used hard disk space i have. anyone know how to turn this back on?

    Hi Alan,
I think you are looking for this:
From the Finder, select View > Show Status Bar and like magic, your info is revealed like how it was with snow leopard at the bottom of the finder window.
If you have the finder window at the bottom of your screen then it might be below the screen, just move the window up. That happened for me when I revealed it.
    Hope this helps.
